Fully Relying On God

No soul can be really at rest until it has given up all dependence on everything else and has been forced to depend on the Lord alone. As long as our expectation is from other things, nothing but disappointment awaits us. Feelings may change, and will change with our changing circumstances; doctrines and dogmas may be upset; Christian work may come to naught; prayers may seem to lose their fervency; promises may seem to fail; everything that we have believed in or depended upon may seem to be swept away, and only God is left, just God, the bare God, if I may be allowed the expression; simply and only God.

From the Intercessors Network
THE AIR WAR: CHRISTIAN TELEVISION FOR MUSLIMS

Thousands of godly men and women risk their lives every day to be on the ground in Muslim nations and near Muslim populations. The work is very slow and very hard. Because God loves Muslims so much, for the past 15 years or so, He has sent them hundreds of dreams and visions of Jesus. No other religious group in history has had so many of those supernatural revelations from God.

At the same time, God has released satellite Christian television right into Muslim homes each week. One alliance of ministries, now broadcasts three live shows in Arabic into the homes of over 70 nations covering North America, Europe, the Middle East, Australian and most of Indonesia on three different satellites. These shows are distinctive because they are all in Arabic (the sacred and official language of Islam); they explain the real teachings of Islam to Muslims (many are shocked and dismayed) and they talk to Muslims on live television by phone.

Soon, these powerful programs will be in several other languages, thus multiplying the need for more workers and resources. Please pray for this alliance in the “air war” against the deceptions of Islam. Just as in WWII, it may be that the war has to be won in the air before it can be fully won on the ground. Please pray that these weekly Arabic broadcasts can be quickly translated into Indonesian, Urdu, Farsi, Turkish, French and English.

Pray for the wisdom, strength and resources to bring in this great harvest of souls for Jesus all over the world. Thank God, too, that he is doing it. Saving Muslims is His idea and His passion.

Mac, that's awesome news about the tv/satillite reaching the muslims. I thought that any Christian teaching was banned in most of the countries. I love that they can call in and ask questions.

Nate, I now work as a cafe hostess/cashier in a secure facility here in WPB. I only get brief, mostly shallow conversations; "how are you?" "nice day we're having.." "love those earrings!"

This week the conversations have changed. Now people are asking me what I think about the earthquakes, volcanos and fires.

Everything has changed.

I tell them exactly what I think about it and am surprised at how many Christians there are where I work. Some are only on the brink, but they're asking the right questions.

I had two customers, one on either side of me, discussing the earthquake. Here's the gist of the conversation;

Customer 1 "Somebody's angry"
2 "That's how it seems"
1 "He's trying to get our attention"
2 "Yeah, but do you think it's working?"
1 "I don't know, it might be just making people angry"
2 "Or not believe in him"
me: "I would think it would make one believe even more."
1 "What do you think?"
me: We're living in the last days and God wants us to know him"
1 & 2 "That's right"

It wasn't just them. It's one person after another. The building I work in employs 300 people. It amazes me how many are thinking the same thing.

Now, I'm getting hugs and having people come up to me that know I go to church. We're having some really good conversations in the short time I get to "visit" with them.

I could certainly use prayer for my answers to them. My answers need to be short because that's all the time I get with the customer, just a few minutes.

I'm so sorry that I am not in a position to post news links all the time.

My in-laws gave us the Jan 2008 National Geographic. I wouldn't normally read the magazine because of the constant reference to evolution which is a bunch of hooey. As I have said so many times, "there is no evidence of evolution from species to species, only mutation within a species to ensure survival of that species."

Anyway, the magazine was left open the other day and I noticed an article on Indonesia. It's actually very interesting. The article speaks of the ongoing beliefs of the Islam and other beliefs that the Indonesian people cling to. When disasters hit, the people beg the leaders to sacrifice 1,000 goats and perform other rituals to appease the god/gods. It mentions again and again, how they do rituals and disasters still befall them. It is amazing, I think if these people are presented with the gospel, they'll latch on. They just need the truth.

We took my son to see Narnia II, Prince Caspian last night for his 20th birthday. He was so excited, he really wanted to see it.

We got to see it in DLP, it's digital. It was the most amazing screen I've ever seen. The picture quality was beyond comprehension. And the movie was quite good.

I tried to find an adult aged book on the movie, to present the tickets in, but only found children's books from ages 4 to probably 11.

CAUTION I don't think that any child, up to 11 years old, should see this movie due to the level of violence in it.

I think it's odd that the book display at B & N was geared towards children, yet the movie was for adults.

Grany, thanks for posting the link on spiritual warfare. :)

Mr. Hyde, as always the coffee and fellowship is fantastic. Thanks

JCChick23 said...

Lori--I am so glad you said that about the movie!! I was going to take my girls and my oldest is only 12! They are 6, 11, and 12--they saw the first Narnia--so do you think this one is that much more violent? Let me know as we actually thought about going tonight!!!

campsmore said...

JCchick,

Yes, I do think there is more violence in this movie than #1.

DO NOT READ THIS NEXT PARAGRAPH IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ THE FIRST FEW SCENES OF NARNIA 2

For instance, the movie opens with a baby being born; woman straining/screaming during childbirth, joyful mom then holding the child. In another room a man is telling another man he is the father of a son. The new father tells the man to do what he must. The next scene is an old gentleman urgently awakening Prince Caspian, tells him to go to the forest. Almost immediately after Caspian takes off, his bed is surrounded by at least a dozen men with crossbows who shoot into the sleeping area. Fabric and feathers are flying into the air. There are other scenes in this movie that are even more disturbing.

I think this would cause nightmares for your age children. I would definitely avoid taking your children to this movie. At the very least, see the movie first and then decide. I did hear children crying during this movie.

If you decide to see it, ask if it's being shown in DLP at your theater, huge difference in picture and sound. I understand that Ironman is also being shown in DLP.

Christian Movieguide

they loved the movie but gave it only a wholesome rating which means discernment needed for younger viewers-right on with what Lori said. I have found them to be much more accurate than the movie reviews via Christianity today.

this is a Christian, in the true sens of the word, review place and they do a good job. I have been impressed with the fact that indeed when a film is artistically very good but the message is bad or there is a lot of violence they say so and quite frankly vice versa. There have been a few that they said the message was quite good but the film was poorly executed and from an artistic standpoint might not be worth seeing at all or at least wait for the release on dvd. you can see about 3 weeks worth of info for free. if you want to go further back than that you have to pay a membership fee of $40/year. it is updated every Friday.

jib said...

I would note that while the said the intended audience was "all ages" for Caspian if you look at what "wholesome" means you will find that discernment is suggested for younger children. We weren't planning on taking our 5 year old anyway since he can't sit through the first movie without getting horribly bored

Campsmore,

Thanks for the warning. I probably would have taken my kids to see it.

Also your testimony made my morning. It's a wonderful blessing to be able to be used in such a way to sow the seeds for God's Kingdom. The harvest is ripening it seems.

I just thought more about this China earthquake today. How it would happen just at the moment before they are set on the world stage for the olympics. All eyes are upon them. There is so much tragedy there-the general populace isn't so thrilled with the event taking place now.

And the Saudi Oil ordeal? Big suprise they aren't really our "friends."

Finally I wanted to post this to those interesed understanding that some people are not.

The day after I made the proclamation on the UFO/Demon/Flordia Revival connection. I had got my first issue of "Prophecy in the News."
In it there were several books listed on differnt topics. A few being on this very topic of a UFO/Fallen Angel connection. I have not read anything on this before so I don't know what they state. The only book I read was the"Nephilim /Pyramid" one. I don't remember it connecting to UFO's -but if it did I don't recall.

Chuck Missler had co written one of them so since I like his teachings I went to his website to see if he said anything about it.
Which he does. He's written a few articles on it-mainly in 1997-which was awhile ago. (I also browsed other topics he's written and they are great-so I'm glad I found his site anyway)

If it's of interest following is a link.

Koinonia House

On this page is a Broadcast you can listen to, (have not done that yet) Article links, and probably a good one for us to look at is "Armor for the age of deceit." Putting on the whole armor of God.

Shalom, all!

Lori, your posting at 4:08 AM caused a little bell to start ringing in the back of my head. It took some time to track it down, but here it is:

Mark Mallett's Blog entry "Signs From The Sky"

Mark Mallett is a Canadian singer/songwriter & Catholic evangelist. He recently finished a US tour where he got to meet and speak with a great many people. Although the blog was posted on May 12, he started writing it on May 10 -- just a week ago. What caught my eye was this quote:

Perhaps the greatest sign is that which is rising in the hearts of many I speak to. The sense of "imminence" of "something" has perhaps never been greater. These events will continue, and increase in intensity.

Basically, this blog entry is a summation of signs that have been appearing for the last year, including the reprint of a blog he wrote on Nov. 5, 2007 about the Perseus Comet. If you'll remember, a comet suddenly appeared in the constellation Perseus back in October. It appeared near the brightest star in the constellation, called Alpha Persei.

I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "the one who is and who was and who is to come... (Rev 1:8)

Perseus is the Greek hero called "The Rescuer", slaying monsters with a sword while riding a white horse called Pegasus. Sound familiar?

Then I saw the heavens opened, and there was a white horse; its rider was (called) "Faithful and True." He judges and wages war in righteousness... (Rev 19:11)

I'll let you read the rest of the blog yourself. If you want to read more of his blog, you can find it here. (If nothing else, he associates his blog entries with such beautiful artwork from a variety of sources.)

One last thought:

We tend to think of the Apocalypse as God’s judgment on mankind, an act of pure Justice. But we must remember that the Apocalypse is Mercy, for God will not permit evil to go on devouring the good indefinitely, and will bring it to an end. —Archbishop Fulton Sheen, (paraphrased; reference unknown)

interesting link Jim and some of it is food for thought. I don't necessarily agree with the interpretation of everything he wrote and it is odd that he writes of the seals now being opened since it has been my experience that most Catholics believe that those prophecies all cam true in the remote past-like the first century. That is my understanding of amillenialism at any rate.

I do like the quote by the archbishop however and quite true when you think about it.

Alesia said...

Your a girl gone wild-Great Links!

I can hardly believe the boldness spoken by Pres.Bush about Israel and God and the god of the terrorists. Really, talk about on fire! (of course we don't like the dividing Israel part but never the less it was a great speech.)

Jim,

I loved your link on the comet Alpha & Omega, etc.. They used to rely on Astrological signs as communication from God especially I think pre-Moses. Before the law.But after too.

Since we realize we are close to "the End" and the Bible mentions "signs in the sky" it may be prudent to watch those things from a Biblical perspective. Otherwise why would it be stressed?
I've seen some books available on that topic but have not read any.

I agree w/him the seals have not been broken yet. But the 1st horse/rider is the anti-christ or copycat Christ in the view I hold. And the 2nd horse/rider is Jesus Christ. The real one.

(I just thought to myself-before the red horse seal is broken what if fireball went by?)

I'm a little worried about the saint appariatons in the sky part but other than that it was great.

One thing about it. It seems that most religions agree on one thing. Something is going on and The End is close.

Tensions are mounting.

jib said...

i would agree that the seals have not yet been broken I was just a little surprised that he felt that way. my own take is that we won't be here when the seals start being broken but we've debated that before ad nauseum so this isn't an invite to reopen that can of worms. just a statement

Shalom, Lisa! I think the question might be open as to who the first rider on a white horse of Rev. 6 is -- perhaps it's one of the angels described in Zechariah? But I definitely think the second rider of a white horse (Rev. 19:11) is Jesus. Also, you wrote:

I'm a little worried about the saint appariatons in the sky part but other than that it was great.

Do you mean the visions in the sky that St. Faustina saw? She saw the sky turn dark, except for stars that marked the location of the wounds of Christ. In other words, it was a vision of the crucified Christ in the sky, covering the entire sky. If you ever read Sr. Faustina's Diary, this is a vision that should be taken more symbolically rather than literally (although it's possible that this will be the Great Miracle used to give people one last chance to turn to Christ.)

If you're wondering: St. Faustina was a nun in Poland back in the 1920's and 30's, who received messages from and was visited by Jesus on a number of occasions. She wrote these down (a task in itself -- she had only received three years of schooling and her spelling and grammar were "unique") and it was published as "Divine Mercy In My Soul". The messages can be summed up in the phrase, "mankind will not have peace until it turns with trust to God’s mercy."

At one point Jesus described an image he wanted her to make. It was to show Him standing in front of door, one hand raised in blessing and the other hand touching His heart. From His heart were to come two rays of light; one of red (symbolizing His Blood) and one blue (symbolizing the waters of baptism). Beneath the image were to be the words, "Jesus I Trust In You". The entire image is to represent G_D's Divine Mercy. Since Jesus told her the TYPE of image he wanted, there are several interpretations. Here you'll find the version most popular in Europe and America.

Jesus told Sr. Faustina, "All sins can be forgiven except if you refuse to believe that your sin can be forgiven ... Before I come as Just Judge I will open wide the doors of My mercy ... He that refuses to pass through the doors of My mercy will have to pass through the doors of My Justice.

Jesus I trust in you!

But seriously Jim,

I rather consider the interpretation you gave.

I don't know about the angels in Zecharih so I'll look at that.

I'm just about to do a study on the minor prophets: Habakuk, Zephania, Haggai, and Malachi.

There are some things pertaining to our time frame in them so I thought to take a look.

Probably won't get to it until next week.

Secondly, yes, I did read the article you linked. That's what spurred me on to further reading at the Amazing Facts site.

Thirdly, before deciding to embark on another topic, I need to wrap up some loose ends, both here and at home. I owe Donna an article that will require a fair amount of time to type up and then I need to finish up some stuff that I've just simply neglected while spending so much time on faith matters. Once I take care of those obligations, I'll see what I'm moved to set out upon next.

I keep hearing the phrase "strong delusion" when the Florida Revival comes up, as a justification that this is God sent, to bring about destruction (really). God is NEVER going to send destruction on His people, but the devil will try.

The latest is that this is a strong delusion, based on the verse in 2 Thessalonians 2:11:

11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

HOWEVER, and please go read it for yourself if you don't believe me.

This verse is talking about those people who are LEFT BEHIND after the Rapture, or at least for those who believe in the pre-trib rapture. The people referred to are those who are deluded the Antichrist, because they do not believe, nor have EVER have believed the Truth. it is NOT talking about Christians AT ALL.

How do we know, because the previous 3 verse are about he Antichrist and his ability to deceive, and the fact that he has to be revealed before this great delusion comes.

I am not aware that the AC has been revealed.

To be honest, ANYONE who says stuff like this REALLY does not know God, nor their Bible - it's sad if it wasn't so dangerous. Many people will hear it and maybe miss something God has for them, out of fear.

People are all too readily quoting the Bible to justify a particular position - especially when they do not know the WHOLE counsel of Scripture, and take passages out of context, albeit in however a well meaning manner. It's just plain WRONG.

Again we see that traditions and religion have managed to subvert what the Word of God actually says.

if I had any idea what I did to fix I'd share with you. try unsubscribing to the comments, if you have yourself automatically logged onto your blogger account sign out of that also. close down that session of your web browser. reboot the computer, new session with internet browser, log back into your own blog, then come back to the cave and try re subscribing-this is pretty much what I did. I even tried new addresses. one of the things that I also checked on was making sure that my sign on address and my admin address for my blog matched (they didn't)-you'll find that under my account I think. I essentially did the whole unsubscribe, re subscribe thing several times and eventually it started working-not entirely sure why. I also noted at least a half an hour delay in my actions and actually getting responses. I would suspect you've done most of the above but if you haven't that's pretty much all I did this morning

Hi Jen, the last thing I want you to do is worry about getting that article to me! You have enough to do with the little kiddies and everything else.
If there is a verse somewhere or other that I missed about it, point me in the right direction. We had been discussing Jack Kelley's statement that kids and those who are have diminished intellectual abilities automatically go the heaven, as I recall, and we were questioning whether or not it was biblical.

Either way it is NOT anything I want you to be overly concerned with particularly is it involves a lot of typing!

I'll catch up on some of these posts and go read Hal LIndsey's newest article that I attempted to read the other day. I see Nate has a link to it.

At the moment we have a houseful of kids as it is one of my daughters birthday celebration. They are having lots of fun and don't need much input from me at the moment!

Nate,
That was a really good article...the stats he gave were helpful in seeing the big picture since I don't have any idea of how many earthquakes, etc. were taking place before my generation.

One thing that really jumped out at me (maybe I can send Jim C. on an investigative mission with this) is the new wheat fungus that has the ability to decimate the Asian/ME crops. Of course the Biblical prophesy of famine and "a day's wages" come to mind, but something perhaps even worse occured to me....

Anyone remember Arthur Miller's play "The Crucible"? It was about the Salem witch hunts in 1692 and how the "hexed" girls caused dozens of good Christian community members to be accused of witchcraft and eventually executed for their "crimes." It was one of my most favorite pieces to teach because it was so riveting and also because it actually happened, so there were all kinds of extra resources to use when teaching the play. The last year I taught, I found an episode in the PBS series Secrets of the Dead which explored the causes of the hysteria from a new scientific perspective. You can read a little about it here.
Of Fungus and Witches
Basically, a behavioral psychologist working on her PhD. came up with the theory that the girls weren't under the spell of witchcraft, but were instead hallucinating after eating bread made with fungus-infested wheat. If you research 'ergot' you can understand it better. In 1951 in France, a similar outbreak occured, but this time the medical community was able to understand the cause and all the bakeries in the affected town were shut down (there were reports of even dogs having hallucinations/seizures because people were feeding them table scraps.) Anyway, the wheat fungus is now a strongly supported theory on the cause of the Salem hysteria.

OK, one more step....if wheat crops in our current day fall to this new fungus, is it possible that there could be a much wider outbreak of hallucinations as large swaths of populations, already affected by food shortages and natural disasters, eat anything they can possibly find, regardless of it's safety? If you were starving or watching your children starve, would you bake bread with moldy grain? And what repurcussions would result if large segments of a community were seen in such a state? In less developed areas, I can imagine fear and irrationality taking over.
I don't know. Something to mull over....

Blessings,
Jen

Hi Donna,
I didn't mean to imply that the typing was going to take long, but I had planned to include a few other links that I had come across on the subject (both pro and con) but I didn't bookmark them at the time so I wanted to hunt them out again.

I got the letter originally from a ministry I wrote to in the early
'90s when I was in high school and working with our school's mentally handicapped class in their "life skills" class. I became so attached to the kids and truly fell in love with each of them. We would discuss all kinds of things (at their level of understanding) and they brought so much joy to us volunteers. It was during that time that I began to wonder about their ability to know Jesus in a way that made their salvation sure. I wrote to and got the letter I mentioned and it brought me a lot of comfort.

Anyway, I'll work on that next time I have more than 3 minutes of quiet time around here :-)

Jen, Shalom! I can't take the time to watch the PBS stuff (I'm watching "Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade" -- can't wait until they reach Petra) but I'm familiar with the French case. The difference there is that the grain wasn't wheat, it was rye, infected with ergot. The fungus that causes ergot produces an alkaloid that became the basis for LSD. When it's ground into flour with the rye and eaten, it causes a disease called "Holy Fire" in the Middle Ages, and is called "ergotism" now.

OK, Indy has reached Petra. I think your proposition is right -- hungry people will eat food when it is marginal, and I mean more marginal than the 5-second rule. We may be on the brink of massive outbreaks of ergotism. During the famine of 1926-27, Russia had 10,000 reported cases. (The Bolshevik government didn't like reporting diseases, especially food-related ones, since that was a property of capitalist societies. We could safely assume the number of cases was considerably higher.) During the Middle Ages, outbreaks killed more. While ergot is commonly associated with rye, it also infects triticale, wheat, and barley, so entire food sources can be contaminated.

There's some evidence that the outbreak in France wasn't due to ergotism, but to mercury poisoning. Seeds to be used for planting are often coated with mercury-based fungicides, and there is speculation that a bag of treated planting grain got mixed in with the regular grain to be ground for flour. The treated grain is usually dyed red to warn against eating it, but in Iraq in 1971-72, 459 people died from eating mercury-treated wheat. It had been dyed red and the bags had warnings in English and Spanish, but no one could read the warnings.

So in addition to fungus destroying the plants, and fungus infecting the grain, I'll wager there will be many, many cases of people eating fungicide-treated grain. I just hope the Jewish farmers stick to the Mosaic rules about storing grain -- if so, the Jewish farmers will have far fewer cases of infected grain.

Jesus, I trust in you!

Jen, Shalom! One more thing: The fungus listed in the article noted by Nate is called UG99. It's not a fungus that affects the wheat grain; it's a fungus that destroys the entire plant. This fungus won't cause hallucinations, because it just won't let the grain form -- the plant will die before the wheat grains grow. Where this fungus grows, there simply won't be any wheat to eat.

Morning, Jim,
Thanks for checking out the UG99 further. If I think about it, I would have to say that starvation might be merciful over what would happen to people if they ate ergot grain. If you read the journals from Salem you see that those affected went through all kinds of horrible physical symptoms. We're mostly familiar with their hysteria and hallucinations, but they also had seizures so violent that several grown men were required to hold the girls down, they would claw at their eyes and skin because of the sensations they felt and several tried to jump out windows and fly. It's no wonder the towns people looked to witchcraft as the cause.

On that happy note, Happy Lord's Day!
Blessings.

Mac,

That statement was really rough. Rarely does someone give a prediction thats 100% accurate. What's the verse about witnesses & two or three in a room?

When I see a prediction I consider it. But if more than one person has the exact same revelation then I tend to consider it a little stronger.

Especially with visions. If the accounts are close to identical then somethings up. But rarely are they 100% the same.

Speaking of famine, I just learned yesterday that cattails are edible. The whole thing, right down to the root! We have an abundance of them, though during a famine, probably not for long. So, how about this for a versatile food:

"Cattail pollen is a fine substitute for flours. It is a bright yellow or green color, and turns pancakes, cookies or biscuits a pretty yellow color (which children love). The rhizomes (underground stems) and lower stems have a sweet flavor and can be eaten raw, baked, roasted, or broiled. Cattail rhizomes are fairly high in starch content; this is usually listed at about 30% to 46%. The core can be ground into flour. One acre of cattails would yield about 6,475 pounds of flour (Harrington 1972). This flour would probably contain about 80 % carbohydrates and around 6% to 8% protein. Since cattail occurs around the world, it is a potential source of food for the worlds' population."

Hi Anne,

I'm sure there is teaching about this somewhere, but here are my thoughts:

Since the only sin that cannot be forgiven is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, and taking the mark of the beast separates us from God permanantly, do you think that the mark will somehow include blasphemy against the Spirit?

I believe people will know what they are doing when offered the mark, that it will be total rejection of God and that no one will be able to "accidentally" turn against God.

Any thoughts?

Jen, that is interesting. I wonder if you were driving through the meadow just at the time I was learning about the cattails? About 3:45pm central time. But, even if it was just the same day, it's still interesting.

Jim, I am grateful for all the information you give us! I feel like I could just ask a question and know that you will fill us in with more than I knew I wanted to know!

Kathy, I'm looking at Kristen's study. I'm keeping an open mind on the rapture timing. I have noticed that Corrie ten Boom didn't beleive in pretrib rapture.

Another question: I've heard that the idea of the rapture only came up sometime in the 1800's. Does anyone know anything about that and why would that be? Some of my more "intelligent" friends don't seem to believe it will happen as we say it will.

Harold and Grumpy Atty (I always think "Grumpy attorney" :) ) I miss you.

I'm done thinking out loud now and am off to church.

Anne, Shalom! I have to confess, it's VERY hard for me to give a simple or quick answer on history and other social sciences because to me, so much depends on context. If you're not going to give context, then the simple or one-line answer immediately skews the listener's viewpoint, and I want people to be able to make up their minds.

As for the mark of the beast, that's why I believe Islam will play a major part in the Tribulation. The Bismillah is worn on a cloth wrapped around the forehead or on the right arm (the Greek of Revelation can be translated as "right hand", "right arm", or "right side.") Bismillah is usually translated as "In the name of Allah", but it's actually a very idiomatic expression that conveys a number of ideas. The word can also be translated as "As an instrument of the One." "The One" in Arabic expresses the idea of G_D as The One and Only, but it also is definite about being "one." In other words, the Bismillah, by itself, denies the Triune G_D: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Since it denies the Holy Spirit, it is blasphemy against the Spirit.

Most Americans aren't aware of that, and would think of it only in the common translation, "In the name of Allah." Since Allah is another word for G_D, then there's nothing wrong with wearing that on an armband or headband, especially if it means you'll be able to buy and sell food.

Jesus I trust in you!

with regards to your question on the rapture theory coming up in the 1800's. Dr Ice has a book out that refutes/discusses that-blanking on the name at this time. There were apparently early church fathers back in the 1st century after Christ who believed in a Rapture. Actually what most are talking about when they say "it wasn't around until the 1800's is dispensational theory altogether and that also seems to be in some of the early writings. Usually it is claimed it can not be so because it wasn't part of early church tradition. Also there are a few scattered others that apparently taught dispensationalism before Darby according to Dr Ice's research.

Two thoughts on that. We should realize that tradition and what scripture says are not necessarily one and the same. Two, the prophets were told to seal up the understanding of the prophecy so it wouldn't be clearly understood until the end of days. So if understanding was to be sealed up until end of days
1- I wouldn't necessarily expect that the early church fathers would have understood and a lot of teaching done on this subject by people such as Augustine, Luther etc was based on replacement theology-that the church is Israel and gets Israel's blessings because God is done with the Jews for all time. Had they actually carefully read the book of Hosea and understood it accurately I doubt they could have come to that conclusion. Remember that for a very long time the Jews were held accountable by Christians for killing Christ and so were highly persecuted at various times by various governments. Further no one at all ever expected to see the nation of Israel ever again as a real nation.
2-I would expect that understanding would increase as the end of days approaches since that is actually what scripture says and the late 1800's is when John Darby of the Plymouth Brethren started actively teaching dispensationalism and made it popular for lack of a better word. So dispensationalism wasn't taught actively for very many years before Israel became a nation again. Keep in mind that teaching dispensationalism at the time would have been earth shaking and really far out since most denominations at the time taught and practiced replacement theology and the Jews were scattered to the four corners of the earth with no homeland in sight.

Thomas Ice collection will contain some of this info I'm sure. I just found that site this morning and will have to look at it further myself. another site to look at would be PreTrib research center

Regarding the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit Dr Frucht has an interesting take on this. He feels that this was a one time sin by the Jewish leaders of Christ's day because they attributed His works and miracles to Satan and not to God. He explains in his book Footsteps of the Messiah that he feels additionally by claiming that Christ was empowered by the devil, they actively and deliberately led the people away and into rejection of Christ as Messiah. He feels that the Scripture seems to indicate that Christ will not come back until the religious and political leaders of Israel specifically ask Christ to come back as Messiah that Christ's second coming will not happen. Until the leaders of the nation lead the mourning for rejecting Christ the first time, He will not come back the second time. Frucht does have a teaching you can purchase about Sins against the Holy Spirit. I would have to think that would be his teaching on the subject. It is an MP3 file. His site is Ariel the teaching is under messianic studies under the heading fruit from the Frucht.

Jib,

I've had the same thought about Global Warming. God knows in advance all things so it just may be that the timing of a natural warming/cooling cycle (depends who you talk to) will cause these cataclysmic events we are now witness to. He knows the cycles so He knows what the cause and effect will be and let us know in advance.

But the copycat enemy uses this as a tool to cause a social agenda of distraction. People are so focused on "Save the Planet" "We caused the problem" that they don't look to God for help. It's all about themselves doing the work to fix it.

But the religion of "Global Warming" also brings it into focus as a "Global Problem" therefore causing the world to unite in a "Global Thought Process".

I've had this thought in the back of my mind (fuzzy like) but never really brought it forth into focus until now.

Do you all agree? Any other ideas?

Regarding the rapture, it is true that it has only recently been widely taught.

The Futurism concept (the idea that most prophecy fulfilment happens after the Rapture) was developed in 1585 by Jesuit Father Francisco Ribera.

In more modern times, this idea was taken up by Scofield, who used it in his notes in the Scofield Reference Bible, which is widely used--thus its popularity today.

Steve Wohlberg has a good site that explores this topic as well as many that you are discussing on this forum--Rapture, Israel, Armageddon, etc.

Steve is a Jewish Christian and explains things so even I can understand it!

By the way, when hubby was on his horrible wheat intolerance diet in 1983 and beyond, he was not allowed any wheat, yeast, milk or eggs at all. NADA BIG TIME. I learned to bake with things like Soyflour, rice flour, potato starch and millet. Oh, we had fun learning how but I made cakes, pies, cookies, besides all of the other really healthy foods he had to consume. So, there is always a way to survive and God does provide at all times. I just purchased a new huge box of Hershey's cocoa and the price of it has tripled in the last 9 months. Did you know that you can add a tablespoon of cocoa powder to beef stew or chili and it increases the food value of the meal? Also, you can use beer in your bread recipes for the yeast. If I can find the web site that has all of this info on it I will post it for any of you that are interested.

I have been laying aside a lot of dried fruits and veggies just in case but they also make great munchies any time. Those boxes of Ramen that you can get in the stores, remove the seasoning bag and use the noodles in place of potatoes in your stews or put some dried veggies in them, add some chicken or beef broth and walla you have a great soup.

We can do anything when we have to.

Have a wonderful Lord's Day everyone and Shalom!

Jib, Shalom! I found a couple of interesting links off the article on Jean Sarkozy. The first is the link titled, The population explosion on Europe’s doorstep. It's pointing out the problems Europe is having now (and will only get worse) because it has a total fertility rate (TFR) – the average number of children a woman bears in her lifetime – of 1.5, well below the 2.1 required to replace the people already here. Meanwhile, the nations to the south of Europe have a TFR of 2.9, so they're growing and growing rapidly. At present rates, Yemen will have about half the population of Russia (which is 30 times bigger) by 2050. Interesting reading.

The second is that Rice price dives as US and Japan set to unlock grain pact. Apparently part of the recent high price of rice had to do with trade agreements between Japan and the US. If the two countries can come to an agreement on modifying those agreements, tons of rice will be freed up for the world market, driving down prices. Ain't agribusiness grand!

Jesus I trust in you!

interesting recipe. as Jim says, it likely would stick with you for a while! Do they count as starches or veggies?

I ran into my Jewish friend whom I loaned Epicenter to. He loved the book (decided he needed to go back and read the book of Ezekiel) and is lending it to others. We were talking at lunch the other day and he asked me a question about something and my response was that Israel would be taking on Syria and that Damascus would be obliterated to rubble and uninhabitable. He gave me an odd look and I referred him to Is 17. He saw me today and got all excited because some commentator whose name now escapes me was talking either today or yesterday saying that Israel should not bother to go after Lebanon again but strike at Syria instead. She feels that Rice convinced the Israeli's back in 06 not to go after Syria because we were negotiating with them to stay out of Iraq. Her comment was that since the surge has worked and Iraq is more stable than it was that she thinks the next time Israel goes to war they're going after Syria. He was just amazed about hearing something in the secular realm that I had commented on a coupe days earlier from a Bible prophecy point of view. Since Joel is speaking in Tucson this coming weekend may be I'll print out a flyer and give it to him.

Anne,

You said,

Since the only sin that cannot be forgiven is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, and taking the mark of the beast separates us from God permanently, do you think that the mark will somehow include blasphemy against the Spirit?

In the context of when Jesus said it, it was addressed to the Pharisees, because they would not accept that what He, Jesus was doing - all the miracles, signs, healings, casting out of demons, etc, was of God.

If that as the cae then, we need to be very careful that we do not do likewise. The Pharisses were thje religios leaders of the time, they probsably knew more abotu the Old Testament scriptures that we do today, and they STILL got it SO wrong.

As I have said before (and I am only paraphrasing Jesus), the traditions of men and religion are the two most dangerous impediments to real Christianity. They make, according to Jesus, the Word of God (that's both the written word - the Logos, the spoken word of power - the Rhema, and the Son of God Himself ineffective to be able to work in people's lives.

That is why the sin against the Holy Spirit cannot be forgiven - people who commit that sin have for all intents and purposes rejected Jesus, and have called the work of Holy Spirit the work of the devil.

As far as that relates to receiving the Mark of the Beast, if you have already rejected Jesus, why would you not accept the Mark?

Now this is intriguing, because if true (and it probably is - it comes from Debkafile) the right hand of thee US (call that the State Dept, with Condi) and the left hand (call that the Defense Dept) REALLY do not know what they are doing.

Exclusive from US sources: Washington urged Israel to seize opportunity and clobber Iran-backed Hizballah (last week!)

Also, just in, and really not a surprise..

Exclusive: Olmert and Barak finally opt for truce rather than military operation in Gaza

Basically "peace" at ANY price, as long as Israel does not have to actually fight....

In my bok that says Olmert and Barak are cowards...

interesting sermon this AM in church given by our youth leader. He was telling the high school graduates about the desires of their heart. He was speaking out of Ps 37 and he said that the Hebrew word for "delight" meant to be pliable and moldable-in other words if they were pliable and moldable by God that He would grant them the desires of their heart.

Vicky, I agree it is a lot easier with the Lord's help to do what proportions really a good substitute for wheat flour? I even made my own leavening back in the terrible diet days. Gluten is one of the rascals in this intolerance ever we have to but long before I was born, people were doing what they had to just to stay alive. Some of the things they did a Born Again Christian wouldn't venture to do but people from Ireland lived on potatoes during the famine in 1845. Here is a link with some very astonishing info. Some of my ancestors lived through that famine and the stories they told were horrible.

Oh, I would much prefer our way but you know, my heart aches for those who do not know the Lord and they will resort to violence to keep from starving to death. Makes me just want to dig deeper into the safety of God's shadow and stay there.

My hubby and I went to investigate some new property on the market and the 120 acres included a well known cave. The day we were there it was at least 92 degrees with no breeze and it was miserable. The Realtor wanted to show us something really unique and took us to this huge area that just looked like a perfect place to make arrows. Well, he moved a boulder by the entrance to the cave and it was the most welcome cool spot I have ever experienced. The Native Americans in the area have used it for a Stomp Dance and council fires gathering for a long time. Now, if I were to want to escape the terrible things going on in the world that would be one of the spots I would pick. The temps stay about the same summer and winter and the cave is very long and sheltered. They used to grow mushrooms in it commercially and it was great. No sunshine but shelter galore. Bet it will be crowded too.

On my property in northern Missouri there are many caves and at least 17 natural artesian wells that used to be used regularly. As late as 1947 the water was very pure. I wonder if that will hold true during the tribulation. There is one cave that the sun comes through a break in the rock formations and that place is a real sanctuary.

So see, you can survive but the quality of the survival depends on whose Child you are.

Shalom and welcome to the blog Vicki

Jib, Shalom!

Next time you see your Jewish friend, ask him if he's considered making aliyah. I think that's important for every Jew in America (in the world, actually, but in America in particular, given the safe haven they've had here) to seriously consider. I have an MP3 of an Israel National Radio show (Light Unto Nations) where one of the guys was making a speaking tour of the US. He told about how he was speaking at a synagogue in Florida (I believe). Now, this was part of a weekly lecture series that drew maybe 20 people at the most. For this lecture about Israel and aliyah, there were over 120 people. The room was filled to overflowing, and what amazed the rabbi the most wasn't that over half of the people there were Christian, it was that when the speaker made the point that Jews need to make aliyah, ALL of the Christians in the room said "YES!"

Great Grany 5 said...

JIM CARROLL, yes I did! In fact, the State of Missouri was very interested in getting all of the artesian wells checked and located. Ours came back great and it was a real relief too. In the process of getting that done, the biggest polluter got the opportunity of correcting his disposal system and in the process, the plant was sold to Smithfield and they are doing a great job of making corrections.

We don't run cattle on my land and the terrain is perfect for keeping them safe again. I really get upset with people who could care less about the welfare of our natural resources and do great damage out of ignorance. There, I used the big "I" word.

I just devoured a wonderful dish of natural pineapple sherbet and it was so goooooodddddd! Open up your mouth Jim, and I will spoon feed you something that will make your eye lashes curl up like Mel Gibson's.

We went to a "Renissance Festival" today (My 1st one) because we all like horses and hadn't seen jousting in person before.

I could have probably guessed this so I was not overly suprised. There were alot of booths w/various wares. Many occultish. Tarot readers, incense, crystals, gypsy things, ingraved occult images, dragon & devilish artwork. One had some type of leather shoes in it. Looked like that time period. Someone was asking the lady who made these how she did make so many? She replied that she couldn't unless the Wickens help her. Others ran around w/little devil horns/wings,and pointy fairy ears.

Then the rain started pouring down so we all ran into an artwork booth. The owner-mid 20's was sitting there w/his legs stretched out. He had some type of Medevil boots/shin guards on.The type that would normally have spikes on them.
But instead of spikes he had on some type of green dice. I thought to myself "well how creative". I've never seen that kind of dice before. Then I thought Wigi board-
so I asked him. They were all from the Dungeons and Dragons game.

They also had an area where you could throw an ax,knives,or chinese stars. So we went up to watch. This guy w/tatoos and a tall mohawk was throwing these knives in a way that made me think of the Tribulation.

Then I thought these type of people would relish the thought of going after the Christians if given free will to do it.

It was a chilling thought.

Does anyone know why there are always crosses mixed w/occult items? Especially Jewelry.

That is sure a mixed message unless the "style" or crosses symbolize something other than Jesus Christ.

Oh no, here goes my mind again. This could be dangerous.

in actuality most of the Renfaire folks are pretty harmless-at least at this point in time now when the Tribulation comes around we'll see. A lot belong to the Society for Creative Anachronism-they are more interested in learning arts crafts and war techniques and preserving this from middle ages. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to find that quite a few are into new age stuff and wouldn't surprise me to find a few true Christians in the bunch either. They tend to come from all walks of life. Many will no doubt be able to adapt to some of what happens in the Tribulation because they do have skills rooted in a non technology past.

Lisa, my cave might need some cleaning and repair but it is always open to all of you here. The only thing that bothers me about the cave in Missouri is it gets really cold up there in the winter (27 below zero is not uncommon) and we would have to have some axes and woodsmen to cut the wood. My little red handled axe wore out a long time ago. But guess what, wild game is plentiful (turkey, deer, rabbits, quail, pheasant, and all kinds of chickens, ducks, beef (good too), and pork.

Wild berries flourish but so do chiggers, ticks and poison ivy. I think it would be a good thing to keep a supply of aloe vera on hand for first aid situations. We could have a great time and make the hills come alive praising and worshiping the Lord. Ya all come! Ya hear?

Love each of you,
Grany

most of the jewelry is rooted in celtic Ireland tradition which has a tradition of mixing the pagan with Christian and has for centuries. Keep in mind, most of the symbols that are used in the jewelery are not new and in fact may be centuries old. I buy from one of the jewlers but am fairly picky about what I purchase. They always give me a "meaning sheet" which I then use to browse the jewelery and weed out that which I wouldn't want to wear or purchase. Not all of it is ocultic and in fact some is purely celtic Christian. I have a lovely celtic cross necklace and earrings-no other meaning according to their sheet and does resemble crosses that I have seen in pictures from Irish churches. As far as the "meaning" of the stones in the jewelery I pay little attention to that.

Late Night Lisa said...

I found this site of symbols. It's quite interesting. I saw many of these at this festival. One in particular is the Triquetra. There was a big banner of the style w/the three legs and Medusa's head in the middle. If you click on the picture it takes you to more info.

Symbols

Then I ran across this. Try to read it through. It's quite something if you grasp the concept.

Overcomer,
I'm still here. I'm having a hard time reading each thread every day. Been too busy with work and kids. Between my wife and I, we keep up with you guys.. barely. I did start working on the timeline we discussed last week and I'll check out the one you mentioned. I may PM you once I get a working copy.
Lisa and Granny,
The whole idea of a physical backup cave is cool.
I'm a family practice doc with TONS of medical supplies, and grew up spending weekends in the Sierra Nevada range, (California). My son and I can shoot anything you'd want to eat, or not. My wife can cook anything and make in taste great. I have enough water purification stuff for about 30 people a day. If you're serious about listing the skills/resources of this group why don't we get a 128 encrypted site to logon to and we can play what if.
I personally believe the Lord may want us where we are until whatever happens, with the preparations we've made, because we are literally 100 yds away from 6000 college students. If things get bad what an awesome mission field that would be!! I might consider packing up if my children were threatened, but I know the Spirit will lead me if it comes to that.
I guess this falls under the heading of being prepared like Proverbs says, and then having faith in the Lord. We live in exciting times my friends!

In His Grip,
Scott

Vicki, this is Tommy Ice’s response to Wohlberg. I have seen Wohlberg’s book, taken a look at a couple of chapters and thought he took a minimalist approach with the various issues. He really does not go into it technically in-depth. His book reminds me of another one that I took a look at and is doing the rounds (in Australia) called “666 and all that”. There again, the two authors did a shallow job without really understanding or articulating the scriptural issues very well. IMO.

When the Truth Gets Left Behind

BTW I’m no fan of the Left Behind books – I started reading them then struggled to maintain interest– but LaHaye has a book out called “The Rapture, Who will face the Tribulation”. I do NOT recommend the book as a great defence of pre-trib but it DOES refute a lot of the myths surrounding supposed pre-trib origins. There is still a lot of misinformation consistently being generated by certain people. For example, no sooner had Dr Ironside passed away that someone wrote an article claiming that he’d rejected pre-trib teaching just before his death. LaHaye refutes this, the Darby fallacies and more. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again – if anyone wants to refute something, they should use Sola Scriptura not hearsay.

The Pre-trib Research Center has a number of articles that discuss this further. I was going to provide links but I figure if anyone is really interested they know where to find them.

Lisa, Shalom! Crosses have always been a part of occult symbology, usually meaning something like the four points of the compass. There are also a wide variety of crosses that have been used by different Christians over the centuries. An offset cross (with the crossbeam closer to the top) with a circle around the center of the cross is a Celtic Cross, used by the Irish and other Celtic tribes as they became Christianized. An Orthodox Cross will have an additional short crosspiece towards the bottom of the cross (for Christ's feet); the Free French during WW2 would have a cross with additional short crosspieces at the top and the bottom; and the Russian Orthodox use a cross like the Free French except the top crosspiece is set at an angle.
