"About the Time of the End, a body of men will be raised up who will turn their attention to the Prophecies, and insist upon their literal interpretation, in the midst of clamor and opposition."

So much seems to be going on all at once, I am having a hard time staying on top of it and understanding and connecting it all.

What is going on with USA/ Poland and Russia and what is going on in Pakistan is very concerning, as Pakistan does have nuclear weapons.

The elections are getting a bit old for me already. Sometimes I think the USA is its own worse enemy. The nastiness that goes on with it all really turns me off.

Joels' comments about Biden are important. I tell you...it's all pretty confusing, if you ask me!

That collision, in which both particle clusters will be traveling at the speed of light, will be monitored on computers at CERN and laboratories around the world by scientists looking for, among other things, a particle that made life possible.

The elusive particle, which has been dubbed the "Higgs boson" after Scottish physicist Peter Higgs who first postulated nearly 50 years ago that it must exist, is thought to be the mysterious factor that holds matter together.

....Higgs, a 79-year-old Edinburgh University professor who as an atheist angrily rejects the idea of calling the boson the "God particle" -- believes it will show up very quickly once the beams are colliding in the LHC.

Whistleblower Mag. from WORLDNETDAILY-has some quotes from the Clinton/Hillary in it. They do warn some are offensive but it goes to show how much the media is a mask of reality.

"I pledge allegiance to the America that can be." Hillary was reluctant to say the Pledge of Allegiance, according to pundit Chris Matthews,so she used this wording instead.(MSNBC's "The Tim Russert Show,"Nov.21,2001) This caused Matthews to ask, "What are we, on probation?"

"Where is the g**d*mn f**king flag?..I want the g**dmn f**king flag up every f**king morning at f**king sunrise." Anxious to honor America, Hillary said this to the staff @ the Arkansas governor's mansion on Labor Day 1991.(Inside the White House"by Ronald Kessler pg 244)

"[We] have nothing but praise for their courage, integrity and professionalism, and we feel lucky to remian friends w/many agents who protected us." Hillary-re:Secret Service Agents.

("Unlimited Access" by Gary Aldrich pg 90) "[Hillary] had a clear dislike for the agents, bordering on hatred.... Two Secret Service agents heard Hillary's daughter Chelsea refer to them as "personal, trained pigs"... The agent on the detail tried to schold Chealsa for such disrespect. He told her..he believed that her father, the president, whould be shocked to hear what she had just said to her friends. Chelsea's response? "I don't think so. That's what my parents call you."

"F**k off! It's enough that I have to see you s**-kickers every day. I'm not going to talk to you, too. Just to your g**d**mn job and keep your mouth shut." To her state trooper bodyguards, after one of them greeted her with "good morning." (American Evita" by Christopher Anderson, pg 90) Some of these same troopers later considered gong public during the 1992 presidentail campaign w/their knowledge of Gov.Clinton's womanizing. However, they were warned by Clinton's people,"If you know what's good for you, you'll keep your mouth shut."

G**dmn it..You ba*tard...It's your f***ing fault." To President Clinton, after receiving some bad news re: the Whitewater investigation....Robert Patterson also wrote, "I witnessed several incidents like this;and while I got used to Hillary's wrath, her ability to turn it off and on amazed me."

"Eight years of Bill, eight years of Hill. That was the plan." Hillary telling a friend of their plans for the presidency, shortly after arriving in the White House in Jan 93. ("Hillary's Scheme: by Carl Limbacher...) A White House staff member said, "There was a lot of talk about "The Plan".[Bill & Hillary] joked around about it in a cloak-&-dagger way, but you could tell they were serious.("American Evita")

"What are your doing inviting these people in my home? These people are our enemies! They are trying to destroy us!" To a White House aide when she heard that some Republicans had been invited to an upcoming event, circa 1993.("The Survivor")

"I want you to do damage control over Bill's philandering....Bill's going to be president of the United States...I want you to get rid of all these bi*hes he's seeing...I want you to give me the names and addresses & phone numbers, and we can get them under control." Hillary's instructions to private detective Ivan Duda in the 1980's, when his womanizing was @ it's peak.("The truth about Hillary")

"You stupid f**king moron. How could you risk your presidency for this?" Hillary to her husband when the Monica Lewinsky scandal became public in Jan 98. (Newsmax.com,12/9/01)

"I could hardly breathe.Gulping for air,I started crying & yelling at him."'What do you mean? What are you saying? Why did you lie to me?" Hillary's "reaction" after Bill confessed his true relationship w/the infamous intern.("Living History")

"G**dmn it, Bill, you promised me that office!" The infamous Inaguration Day fight regarding whether or not Hillary would receive an office in the West Wing.("Bill & Hillary") Hillary was furious because Bill had reneged on his promise, part of their power-sharing agreement, to give her the office that traditionally goes to the vice president.

"We can't trust the American people to make those types of choices...Government has to make those choices for the people." ..On the issue of who should control the allocation of money in her health care reform plan, circa June 93.("The Seduction of Hillary Rodham") Hasert wrote of this discussion."As Hillary Clinton once told me..people are basically greedy and won't make tough decisions. They won't take their kid to the hospital when he needs to go because they want to keep the money for themselves." ("Speaker")

"We're all going to have to rethink how we deal with the Internet. As exciting as these new developments are, there are a number of serious issues without any kind of editing function or gatekeeping function." On the distrubing trend of free speech on the Internet.(Sfgate.com,2/22/98)

"Just keep smiling until these a**holes get their pictures." Instructions to her husband while they were posing for photographers.("American Evita")

"Come back here, you a**hole! Where the f**k do you think you're going?" To Bill has he tried to avoid her after an article appeared in the newpaper that angered her.("Unlimited Access") Former Clinton adviser David Gergen wrote of the marriage, "A chipper president woudl arrive at the office in the morning, almost whistling as he whipped through papers. A phone would ring. It was a call from the upstairs residence...his mood would darken, his attention wander, and hot words would spew out...What,I would wonder, had she said to him now?" ("Eyewitness to Power")

You can think I am kidding or anything else you want to think, but I KNOW THESE TWO. Remember, I lived in Arkansas all the years just prior to and through the final chapter of the Arkansas Clintons. The worst chapter of the worst books written is still waiting for that author to step forward and tell it like it was, and is.

I guess that World Net Daily stuff was offensive!

While WND has some good columnists and columns that I like to read, some of their stuff is sensationalized and, in my opinion, seems borderline Jerry Springerish at times.

I certainly hope this campaign does not get any nastier that it already has.

Late Night Lisa said...

Donna,

It's definitely offensive but would you rather not know what's coming out of the horse's mouth?

The Government/Political system tries to sensor everything to their own advantage. Why do you think we have to get "real" news most of the time via the internet from other countries or an author who will speak out?

If you want to be upset the offensive language then you should either be upset w/me posting it, the media from hiding it or Hillary who spoke those things in the 1st place.

Or is it better just to believe an “image” of what we would like to see? What if you had to work around someone like Hillary? Have you ever had a terrible boss but had to keep quiet or else?

Frankly my take on her is fairly accurate-most of it has come from my husband's observations. I knew who she was the minute Bill told his bold face lied on national TV about his affair (I remember the day I witnessed that) and the fact she didn't leave him on the spot or at least have something noble to say.

(BTW President Bush also has a nasty mouth.)

I just pulled out some of the quotes from "Whistleblower", but the May 2008 44 pg.issue is all about Hillary called the "Queen of Darkness."

There is an article written by Ben Shapiro who thinks her plan is to lay in wait and run for 2012.

(Ben Shapiro, 23, is a graduate of UCLA and Harvard Law School. In "Brainwashed: How Universities Indoctrinate America's Youth," Ben shows how students are duped into becoming socialists, atheists, race-baiters, and narcissists. His latest book is "Project President: Bad Hair and Botox on the Road to the White House.")

Anyway, enough of Hillary. I normally don't get into this type of thing but I find it disgusting yet the hypocrisy is almost humorous. Can't you see God sitting on His thrown laughing at their prideful folly?

These people think their so smart & witty while the American populace is too dumb to see through their media smoke screen.

That's why I love to read the comments on the internet-many people really are not duped.

I was just looking up a little more info on Biden.

(See I'm starting to froth @ the mouth-I need to go back to that "Unchristian America" book so I can mentally "step out of it.")

Come Lord Jesus!-We look forward to your Kingdom of Righteousness! Someday never again to view this filth & corruption.

Lisa, Shalom! re: your August 25, 2008 1:23 PM post on Contemplative Prayer, and your August 25, 2008 10:15 PM reply to my question "Did you ever wonder why the Evangelical groups are so very bog on intercessory prayer, but never developed a contemplative prayer tradition?"

I strongly suspect the reason Evangelicals and most other Protestants discourage contemplative prayer (except for the Anglicans and maybe the Lutherans -- I'd have to double-check on them) has to do with this line of Scripture:

But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. (Luke 2:19, NIV)

Other translations say things like, And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart. (NAB) or But Mary was keeping within herself all these things, weighing and pondering them in her heart. (Amplified Bible) I suspect Protestants thought that if Mary did it, they didn't want anything to do with it because that smacked of the Papacy. The fact is, though, that Mary DID remember, and think over, pondered, contemplated all the things the shepherds had told her, and later, both Simeon and the prophetess Anna. You can't ponder something while you're busy with cooking or cleaning or other things. This pondering must be done in a quiet place, when focusing on G_D.

When I was reading up on this subject to give you the best answer possible, I ran across something a priest once said: "Constant intercessory prayer is bad, since it can lead to demanding and expecting things from G_D; and constant contemplation is bad, because you run the danger of focusing strictly on yourself instead of on G_D." I think maybe one reason Protestants are having problems with contemplative prayer is because since they don't have a tradition of it, they haven't learned how to keep the focus on G_D, making it VERY easy for it to become all about you.

In your description of your spiritual life, you said you "meditate on the Word & God." When you do so, are you in the middle of traffic, or are you in a quiet place by yourself? If you're in a quiet place by yourself, then you are engaging in what most Catholics would call contemplation: you've been talking to G_D, now you're being quiet so you can hear G_D reply. When you describe your worship, you pretty much describe what goes on in a Catholic mass. As for things like candles, Rosary beads, statues, incense ... well, I can tell you that incense is NOT part of Catholic contemplative practice. We only use incense a couple of times a year, and never at home. (Although it DOES make the room smell nice and can cover up the scent of that pizza under the bed that you forgot about.) Statues are like photos; something physical that you can use to focus. Rosary beads are just a counting device, and candles are just for mood (unless they're scented, in which case they can also help remove the scent of the old pizza and ... is that cake under there too?! We haven't had cake for months, and there are her jeans she was saying were lost and yes, she swore she looked under her bed, and now not only is it my fault the jeans were lost but it's my fault that I violated her privacy by looking under her bed...)

I'm sorry, were we just talking about the need to stay focused during prayer?

In any case, the only thing I can think of to add to your prayer life is a little redemptive suffering. We are told to be Christ to one another. Just as Christ suffered for us, we need to suffer for others. Not in order to "save" someone else -- Christ already did that -- but when we lovingly "offer up" (as the Sisters said) our pain and sorrow for someone else, G_D is please with our desire to be like His Son, and that other person's pain and sorrow can be reduced because we're sharing it. That's one reason I used the example of Christ on the Cross, and why you may want to meditate on that, also. I understand that it's not pleasant for you -- it's not pleasant for me, either! Yet by lovingly accepting the pain it causes it helps us to begin to understand the true scope of what Jesus went through in order to achieve His victory.

And no, your dead horse isn't finished marinating yet. I just changed out the original vinegar and cola marinade and put in fresh vinegar and cola, this time with some chopped onion, a splash of Tobasco, and one or two sprigs of crushed mint. (Trust me -- it's one of those things like the dot of vanilla my dad would add to the scrambled eggs to make them taste better. Just a hint of a flavor that changes the whole thing.)

jim.carroll said...

JIB, Shalom! Yes, that link you posted yesterday to "American Papists" was very good. Biggest problem I had, though, was that Lisa Fabrizio just didn't seem to understand how great the anti-Catholic sentiment was/is in this country. This was a time where many protestants believed that a Catholic couldn't be a Christian. I don't mean that they might eventually accept that SOME Catholics sure acted like Christians; I mean where the very fact that you were Catholic meant there was no way in h*ll (literally) that you could be a Christian. That attitude is still around today -- I remember when Mother Theresa died, some popular minister preached from the pulpit that she was destined for h*ll, since the fact that she was Catholic meant that she had not given her life over to Christ.

In any case, during the election campaign of 1960, all this hate and anger came out. The KKK was burning crosses on the lawns of Catholics. (It even happened in the small town where I lived -- a cross was burned on the Catholic rectory yard.) People were making speeches saying that if we elected John Kennedy as president then we could kiss the Constitution goodbye because all of our policies and all of our laws would be coming to us straight from the Vatican.

So JFK HAD to make that statement so that he could be put on record as saying that he would not be the Pope's puppet.

And if you think that attitude is no longer a part of this America, just wait. Ever since the Pope visited America, there has been growing pressure from rank-and-file Catholics for bishops to start denying communion to people like Nancy Pelosi and the Governor of Kansas (can't remember her name) -- Catholics who have publicly supported and/or voted for abortion rights. Do you think that when (please G_D) this happens, there won't be the mother of all backlashes? "Who are these Catholics who think they can force people to believe stuff like that? Where does the Vatican get off declaring what an American can think or say or do?"

The Ancient Order of Hyberians (AOH) is a society where you have to be from Ireland or Irish descent to join. Right now they're a charitable organization; they might also sell life insurance for members (I'd have to confirm that, though); all in all, just the sort of people who know how to throw a good St. Patrick's Day Parade. But that's not how they started. They started when the Know-Nothings and other anti-immigrant/anti-Catholic groups started burning down Catholic churches. The members served as volunteers to protect the churches from vandalism, and kept St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City from being burned to the ground. Somehow, I get the feeling that if/when the pro-choice Catholics are forced to suffer the consequences for their actions, the AOH will need to return to their original purpose.

Political Punch

Joe Biden's Catholic Faith (comments by Catholics @ bottom are insightful)

This is Biden's quote that got me:
Sen. "Joe Biden, D-Del., a key Democratic supporter of President Bush's decision to wage war on Iraq, said the president must demonstrate that he understands the "nature of the damage" caused by the abuse incident by "determining who is responsible, no matter how far up the chain of command this goes." Once those people are identified, Biden said, Bush must "demand the resignations for whoever is involved in this policy, and that includes Lord God Almighty himself. It includes anybody involved."

(So much for fear of the Lord)

John Hay "The evils of tyranny are rarely seen but by him who resists it."

Lord Acton "Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. "

Russian Dictator Joseph Stalin "The easiest way to gain control of the population is to carry out acts of terror the public will clamor for such laws if the personal security is threatened."

Dr. G. Brock Chisolm "To achieve world government, it is necessary to remove from the minds of men, their individualism, loyalty to family traditions, national patriotism and religious dogmas."

I could appreciate some prayers regarding a situation I've found myself in.

I was offered and accepted a job today. I didn't WANT the job, but rules is rules: I'm on unemployment, and by law I cannot refuse any job I'm offered that I'm qualified for.

Yesterday, my phone rang almost continuously from 2PM until 4PM. One of the calls was from a headhunter about this job; they're trying to hire for a third party and would I do a telephone interview today. I said yes. I also got a call about interviewing for another job that might be OK, and I got a call from a third job that I would really like checking to see if I was still interested. (The flooding caused a lot of job hunts to be postponed.)

So, the one job sent me some information, along with a statement that said that I understood that if I interviewed and if the company made a job offer within two days I would accept it. OK, no problem. They called this afternoon for a phone interview. I was expecting something that would last at least half an hour, but no. It lasted 10 minutes.

They offered me the job right away.

The job is graveyard shift -- 10:30PM until 7AM, temp-to-hire for between 6 months and a year, no benefits, and the interview only lasted 10 minutes. They want a body sitting in a chair for that time, and I think they're getting a little desperate.

I do NOT want this job. Within half an hour, the headhunter emailed me 20 (yes, twenty) documents that I either had to sign and fax back right away or read for orientation. PLUS, they told me they needed a copy of my university diploma. I've got to call the University tomorrow to see what they can send me as proof that I graduated.

In the meantime, I'm going ahead with my other interview tomorrow, and I'm hoping that SOMETHING happens that will let me get the job I want.

So, like I said, I could use some prayers. Thanks!

I received this from Greta Van Sustern at Fox News and thought you might like to share in the report with me. My remarks in ( )

“Note: below is an email from my colleague (Greta's Colleague)…it is notes about the Republican platform…yes, next week is their convention but this note below is a sneak peek!
Subject: RNC votes on status of Jerusalem and backs moving US embassy to
Jerusalem

Minneapolis
GOP members writing their platform today voted to support Jerusalem as the undivided capital of Israel and backed the moving of the United States embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Cathie Adams, a delegate from Texas proposed the amendment, which did pass. However, confusion popped up in the committee when delegates said they did not realize they were also voting on the embassy move. The committee voted on whether to open up the floor to re-vote on the amendment, but that failed and the amendment will stay as part of the Republican platform.
These issues have faced both John McCain and Barack Obama throughout the campaign. McCain supports the relocation and has said that he would move the embassy to Jerusalem on “day one” of his presidency. Barack Obama faced criticism when he originally pledged support for an undivided
Jerusalem to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, AIPAC, but then amended his view saying that the status of Israel would need to be negotiated in future peace talks.
Discussion on the Middle East continued when language was added to the platform in the Iraq section, which included a swipe at Barack Obama. The draft read that victory in Iraq is “too critical to our own national security to jeopardize by artificial or politically inspired timetables that do not reflect conditions on the ground or respect the advice of our military commanders.” Republicans voted to add the word essential in front of advice as a hit on Obama and support of McCain’s often repeated hit that Barack Obama did not receive the advice of military commanders before announcing his Iraq policy.”

End of message! Please be praying about this as it could be a very positive step for the USA to make on behalf of Israel.

On another note, JIM C. I am sorry that I misunderstood what your intentions were with the horse meat. Not feeling up to snuff affects everything.

MAC,

Have you ever heard of Dr. Bob Cornuke? He is a Christian archeologist who believes also that Mount Sinai is in Saudia Arabia and has 'believeable evidence' of such.

I won't take much space here, other than to quote WVW, "he is a former crime-scene investigator that now uses the Bible as a literal guide to try to find lost Biblical locations and artifacts" and "Whether it's Bob's confirmation of the real Mt. Sinai, the discovery of the lost anchors of Paul, or Bob's quest for Noah's Ark and the Ark of the Covenant, his main purpose is to reveal to the world the 100% accuracy of the Bible." I have seen and heard him in person, as well as the couple spoken of in the article, and have these DVDs.

Worldview Weekend at www.worldviewweekend.com has DVDs about Dr. Bob Cornuke's findings - "The Search for Noah's Ark" - "The Search for the Real Mt. Sinai/Search for the Ark of the Covenant" and "Archeological Evidence that Confirms the Bible."

"But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. (Luke 2:19, NIV)"

I really don't think this scripture is a reason for not promoting "contemplative prayer."

(But as you know some are getting into that practice and many Christians are not happy about it.)

There are other scriptures which tell us to meditate upon the Word & Godly things & this one would fall under that category.

Protestants just don't focus on "Mary" so that is why I don't think they would pinpoint that scripture out of all the others.

Again I think it goes back to where "contemplative" prayer originated from & Eastern Mysticism. Any Biblical verse mentioned to support this would probably allude to Baal worship or something along those lines.

But-I will look into it further and see if anyone points to a particular verse in the Bible.

FYI-This is what some are speculating the role of the RCC to be in the future.(Sorry if it offends you but JIC-Just in Case-something like this were to happen.I'm sure if the Pope declared a one world religious system such as this you would not be supportive of it.Some believe Rick Warren is the evengelical side helping this along.)

Those following this theory believe the "global prayer meeting" in Assisi, Italy, 1/24/2002, was of huge prophetic significance.

In this Pope John Paul II convened the "global prayer meeting" of members of 11 other non-Christian religions which included Voodoo Witchdoctors, Hindus, Buddhists, Islam, shamans, and other pagan religions. So you can't really blame Christians standing outside of the RRC and looking at prophesy not to be suspect.

We know there will be a global shift toward a one world religion which will be proceeded by "great signs". (But they are not of the true God) And those who do not seek the truth in scripture will be purposely deluded by God Himself to believe "a/the lie." (And that in it's self is a frightening thought. If your purposely deluded by God then there is no chance on turning back to the truth & salvation.)

2 Thessalonians 2:9-11 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)

"Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie."

Here it is:

"The New Jerusalem Covenant Project to produce Antichrist has seen its first two steps realized. Step 3 is the plan whereby an Internationalized Sector within Jerusalem is created, thus allowing a combination worship center to be erected. Step 4 is planned to follow soon thereafter, where the Pope visits this new international sector, declaring all religions of the world are now one, and he is the head. Step 5, the appearance of Antichrist, follows soon after Step 4. Current news seems to indicate Step 3 may be close at hand."

So they don't think the Pope will be the Anti-Christ but will just help him along the process of uniting everyone together.

Is there some truth in this? Is the Pope trying to unite everyone together?

So everyone is speculating what "the lie" is. Some have claimed "the rapture" is the lie. Or a "miraculous sign" in the sky that will unite all together is the lie, or "the rapture happens & blamed on Alien abduction" is the lie, and the list goes on. But whatever it is would deceive even the elect of God. This must be a real whopper!

And what seems to be the only protection from being fooled by the lie? Seeking the truth in God's word.

Otherwise some people just giving this lie some consideration may be zapped w/the "strong delusion" and believe it's from God when it's really from Satan.

This is a scary prospect whatever it may end up being.

things are going better. we will most likely be hiring someone today-it is a little bit of a departure for the office to hire someone other than an medical assistant but my back office person spends A LOT of time doing paperwork of the kind she has extensive experience with. I went to my first pilates class last night-man it is waaaaay harder than I thought. we all looked rather amusing also. i tweaked my foot trying to do something which the teacher scolded me for when she saw I was in pain. it aches a little this morning. we have joined the new gym here in town. saturday I aim to try cardio kick boxing. ought to be a hoot. maybe I should just buy a swim suit to swim laps in and a pair of goggles.

other than that I am great

how are you doing? I seem to recall tumult in your life?

I pray you get the job you want and don't have to settle. how slowly can you drag your feet?

The Man behind BHO?

for those who didn't read the prequel books for the left behind series-there was a character in the prequel books who also appears at least in the first few left behind books who is the "maker" behind Carpathia's life from very early on and the similarities with the guy for BHO are eerie to say the least

btw-real and credible rumor that Romney will be getting the nod for the VP spot on the republican ticket. Beck was saying last night on his show there is a site called intrader or something like that in which people can buy "stock" in events that happen at least in the US. They were 100% for the senate race in 2004 and 2006. They have been watching the % for the different candidates for both the DNC and the RNC and interestingly enough Biden spiked to 70% (which is considered significant) about 8 hours before the announcement. although not much mention has been made of Romney recently in the news (his numbers have been around 25-30%) yesterday he spiked to 80% or so. somehow people make money off of this but not entirely sure how it works nor were we able to find much on it last night either.

I can see the contrast between this country and China also, they are an ancient culture where we are new, almost babies, in our "American" culture. We must also remember that the early missionaries were from the US, like "China Inland Mission" ect.

Ritmeyer Archeaeological Design Another good site-he thinks he knows exactly where the Ark stood-there is a space carved out right under the Dome of the Rock

(What if God had that Dome placed there "until" the proper time to rebuild the temple. If that dome/Islam issue was not there-I bet the temple would have been re-built already.)

"Archaeological architect Leen Ritmeyer believes that Solomon's Temple was built here, and that the Ark of the Covenant rested in the rectangular cut-out seen in the upper right area of the Rock."

Precisely in the center of the Holy of Holies as laid out by Ritmeyer, is a rectangular cutout in the bedrock measuring 4 ft 4 in x 2 ft 7 in. Based on his measurement of the Biblical "cubit," Ritmeyer suggests the Ark was exactly this size. Thus, according to Ritmeyer, the Ark once sat at the exact center of the Holy of Holies—in this very indentation on es-Sakhra beneath the Dome of the Rock!

Shalom, all! Personally, I'm in favor of the Temple being located under a small dome off to one side called "The Dome of the Tablets" or "The Dome of the Spirits". The reason being that the original ground where the first altar was set up was on what had been a threshing floor. A threshing floor needs to be smooth, otherwise you loose the grain. The rock under the Dome of the Rock is NOT smooth and could never have been used as a threshing floor. The stone that's under the Dome of the Tablets IS smooth.

Confessionism The Misuse of 1 John 1 9

Jim Elliff

Do you believe that you must confess every known sin to God?
For many years earlier in my ministry, I made statements such as the following:
In order to be restored to fellowship with God and to be filled with the Spirit you must confess every known sin to God.
What am I to think of such instructions now?
Sadly, this teaching adds a layer of requirement for our forgiveness not intended by God. And it may lead to confusion and sanctification troubles for the believer if taken seriously.
My Experience with Confessionism
The word confession in the original comes from the conjoining of two words, "to say" and "the same." Confession means to agree with God on his assessment of our actions and thoughts, and to name our sin to God.
I did not find "confessionism" in the dictionary, but will coin the word as a way to name the practice and the teaching that believers are under a necessity to confess every known sin to God as a vital ingredient of their sanctification.
I had considerable experience in this practice early on. And I put many others under the burden of it also. I won't say that God did not use this method in some ways for good during this period (I was, after all, attempting to draw near to God), but I finally came to a very different and much more liberating view of sin and forgiveness. And I came to regret having put myself and others under a bondage that I believe God did not intend. A wrong view of confession can lead those who are perfectionistic or overly sensitive by nature into a spiritual quagmire.
Biblically my former views on sanctification always circled back to one verse, 1 John 1:9. This verse was a foundation for sanctification not only for me, but for those who were my teachers. Let me remind you of it here:
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
I took this verse to mean that each time I sinned I had to confess that specific sin to God (and to the others I sinned against—which in itself is true) in order to be forgiven and cleansed. If I did not do this, I was living an unforgiven and polluted life, one in which the Spirit was not free to work. To have unconfessed sin was to remain "in the flesh."
I did not believe that the verse meant that I was just to scratch the surface of my sinning, but that God demanded that I scour out each and every sin until it was brought before Him. It did not mean some sins but every sin. And it did not mean just the big ones, but the smallest of them also. It meant not only the specific sin itself, but each occasion of that sin. I could not summarize my sins and say, "Lord, the usual."
All of this meant regular (daily, hourly, immediate) introspection of my life until every sin and every nuance of sin was laid before God in prayer. I made "sin lists" from time to time and could always write pages. I was determined to keep short accounts with God. In other words, confession of every sin was at the heart of my perception of sanctification. Without it, I was not filled with the Spirit. With it, and with a reliance on the Spirit called "reckoning myself dead to sin and alive to God," (sometimes described as putting Christ back on the throne of my life) I was "setting the Spirit free" to work in and through me. My sanctification was either "on" or "off," depending on my action in this area. If I confessed my sins and believed that Christ was on the throne, then He lived through me, but if I did not, He did not. It was a kind of semi-perfectionism. And it seemed to me to be the living out of 1 John 1:9.
John's Way of Dealing with the Believer's Sin
Now, let me spell out the fuller, more correct view of confession found in the 1 John passage surrounding the confessionist's locus classicus (1:9). It will take a good reading of the context. I've emphasized some portions. Please carefully go over the following passage:
This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.
My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. (1 John 1:5-2:2)
First, note that the passage spells out its purpose clearly—"I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin."
The purpose of the confessionists' use of 1:9 is to get the Christian into a place of being forgiven and cleansed by God and therefore in fellowship with Him and filled with the Spirit, but the purpose of John was obedience. And this, in 1 John, is repeatedly given as the mark of the authentic Christian.
But note, secondly, that John demonstrates clearly that the believer's sins are immediately and totally covered by the sacrificial work of Christ. For instance, in verse 7 he asserts that the believer (who is consistently described as the one who walks in the Light), enjoys this promise: "the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses [him] from all sin."
This action word (cleanses) is continuous, meaning that the blood of Jesus unfailingly cleanses the believer from his sin at all times. There could be no sin that the blood does not cover, confessed or not confessed. Though our sins were taken care of in the cross of Christ, and by His blood being spilled for us, it is applied immediately in time to every sin we commit the nano-second we commit it.
In 2:1-2, John makes things even clearer. He says that when the believer sins he has the Advocate's help who is the propitiation for our sins, and the sins of all kinds of people in the world. Propitiation means that a pleasing and satisfactory sacrifice was made by our Substitute already. Nothing more is required for forgiveness once we are in the family. If it were not clear enough from what we have already read, he removes all remaining confusion by adding: "I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name's sake" (2:12).
We are as forgiven as we can be.
The Implications of Confessionism
Now, consider the implications of adding the work of confession for ongoing forgiveness with the data we presently have. If something more is required for forgiveness and cleansing from all unrighteousness (a state required for heaven), then the believer is in a dilemma. What if he fails to confess some sins? What if he fails to confess one sin? Is he unforgiven and not cleansed from all unrighteousness? This is not what propitiation and the continual immediate cleansing from sin by the blood assert. Must we add to what God has so completely accomplished? Isn't Christ's death and the application of His blood enough? Doesn't this additional requirement diminish the cross by making my naming of a sin, each sin, a prerequisite to forgiveness?
So what about 1:9, the verse used by those who contend for confession of every sin?
Before unfolding the meaning of this text, I must remind you of the danger of looking to one verse to establish a doctrine. It is true that if our sanctification and forgiveness and cleansing from all unrighteousness depended upon just one verse, that would be enough to settle the issue. But it is highly unusual of God to mention such a major doctrine, one which would apply every day and hour of our lives, only one time in the New Testament.
To establish the confessionists' position, we would have to bypass the book of Romans, because it does not talk of confession of sins to God when it addresses our sanctification—as well as Ephesians, Colossians, Philippians, the pastorals, James, and all the New Testament books, none of which speak of the confessionists' view. It is quite strange that it would have been missed by so many biblical authors who specifically address our sanctification. These writers do sometimes speak of confessing sins to one another, and of repentance, but never of a requirement to name every sin to God. This should lead us to examine the verse more carefully to see if we are interpreting it correctly. I contend that we are not.
My Convictions
I want to state my views about the verse. I don't claim infallibility here, of course, but I can say that I have given these matters a great deal of thought through the years. Having believed so strongly in the other direction, I did not think I could afford to be wrong.
Let me give you an expanded paraphrase of the text and then explain my emphases:
If we walk in the light, that is, if we are true believers, then we have fellowship with each other and this wonderful thing happens: the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us continually from all sin.
If we say we don't have sin, we are liars and the truth is not in us, that is, we are not true believers at all.
However, if we confess our sins (that is, we are now characterized by admitting sin as a sign of being a true Christian—a person who now walks in the Light), then God is faithful and righteous (on the basis of what Christ has done) to forgive us of all our sins, and to continually cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
For the confessionist, if I am right in this interpretation, this passage is now turned on its head. Instead of encouraging us to name every sin as a necessary means of ongoing sanctification, the passage is glorying in the completed and sufficient work of Christ. That is, in this passage we see just how forgiving God is in Christ and how his blood continually works on our behalf.
I'm seeing it this way:
1. Walking in the darkness is not a form of inferior Christianity, but is about living as a non-believer; walking in the Light is not being spiritual as a Christian, but is just a description of being a true Christian.
2. Obedience or walking in the Light characterizes all true believers, although this does not imply perfection.
3. The believer is continually cleansed from all sin and nothing more could be done to accomplish that end other than what Christ has already done for the believer.
4. The believer enjoys fellowship with God and other believers.
5. Believers know that they have sin and readily admit their sins. Of all people, believers are the most sensitive and knowledgeable of their sins. In other words, walking in the Light not only means that we are substantively changed by God in terms of obedience, but that we see our sins clearly and admit them. If people who profess to be Christian do not admit their sins freely, then they are deceived. They also make God a liar and prove that His word is not in them.
6. This admission of our sins is not about naming each individual sin to God, however, but is the opposite characteristic of those who say they have no sin.
7. "Forgive us our sins" and "Cleanse us from all unrighteousness" are salvation terms, not sanctification terms. Perhaps the word "all" ought to be in italics!
8. This state of acknowledging sin describes the true believer—he does not hide what he is and what he does. If one comes to Christ having had this transformation into openness, he has stepped into the Light. John is not saying that a believer must name every sin in order to be sanctified. He is saying that this characteristic admission of sins found in the person who has become a believer is that which obtains the result of his being totally forgiven and cleansed from every sin on the basis of the death of Christ.
9. God is faithful and just to forgive every sin and cleanse from all unrighteousness because of Christ's atonement alone. In other words, the believer does not confess in order to get something. What he seeks he already has.
10. Nothing more needs to be done after a person comes to Christ to merit forgiveness or cleansing. "Propitiation" means that God has been entirely satisfied with the payment His son gave on the cross. Even if the believer sins, he has the Advocate who is the full propitiation for his sins standing in for him.
11. God does intend, as the passage teaches, for the believer not to sin (1 John 2:1), therefore ongoing repentance of sin is a characteristic of our walk with God—our walk in the Light. Ongoing repentance is different than naming every sin.
Confessionism is a Problem for Us
If this passage is a call to immediate confession of every sin we are in trouble:
1. We are in a logistical dilemma. We cannot remember every sin. If our forgiveness depends on this, we are in serious trouble. For this reason, most advocates of this theology say that the confession we are to do is to be for every known sin. But that is an accommodation to the text. It does not say that. Actually, no Christian has confessed every known sin either.
2. We are in a theological dilemma. We have a Catholic theology of sorts. That is, if forgiveness is dependent on our ongoing confession, then what if we die with unconfessed sins? Does this view of confession of every sin being essential for forgiveness and total cleansing mean that our sins are not separated from us like the east is from the west? Does it mean we are not forgiven? Does it mean we are not cleansed from all unrighteousness? In other words, does it mean that the work of Christ on our behalf is ineffective when it comes to forgiveness and cleansing? Does it mean that we are not justified until we get to the end of life, and only then if we have confessed everything?
3. We are in an exegetical dilemma. By this I mean that we cannot reconcile the fact that the same text admits to a continual cleansing from all sins on the basis of the blood with no conditions for the believer, while also requiring the condition of detailed confession in a contiguous verse.
What God is after is not our naming our sins, but our turning from our sins in obedience. He requires repentance from specific sins. He already knows what you do. As Trapp says: Ammendment of life is the best repentance. This is the life of the believer. Naming all our sins may be therapeutic, certainly, but it can never be said to be required.
At the same time, I want to assert that naming sins is normal for the believer. In fact, this is the assertion of the text. We freely admit sins to each other and God. It is natural for us to do so because God has given us a clearer view of ourselves. It is within our new natures. We need not feel that God requires we should never name a sin to God. But it is not the aim of our preaching and teaching to get people to enumerate sins to God. We may name our sins on the way to repentance, but we do not do so in order to be forgiven or cleansed. We trust Christ's work for that, alone.
One Additional Passage
I have to bring one more passage to your attention, or you will find it and call me a liar. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus stated in his model prayer: "And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors." Immediately after this prayer, anticipating some misunderstanding, He further says, "For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions" (Mt. 6:12, 14-15).
I'll admit that Jesus has said that we should ask for forgiveness, but, again, we need to look more closely. He is really saying this: Forgive us as, or in the same way, that we have forgiven others. In other words, I'm asking that your forgiveness of me (which we can say is full and free in Christ's sacrifice, needing nothing else) would be the same as my forgiveness of others.
He then states that this forgiveness of others in the believer is so standard, so much a part of what it means to be a Christian, that no true believer is without it. If you are not a forgiver, you are not forgiven. To not be forgiven is to be damned to spend eternity in hell.
Christ is talking not in specifics about confessing every sin before God. He is rather talking in generalities about the nature of salvation. He is saying: Please make the nature of your forgiveness to us the same as that we have toward others. It says nothing about specific confession, but it does tie forgiveness of sins to the new nature He gives true believers.
In the New Testament, there are no other references requiring the confession of individual sins to God. The Christian is a person who is totally cognizant of his sins and open about them (though he should use discretion when speaking of them). But he is also one who must not diminish the effect of the cross and the blood in his life. To do so does not glorify Christ's work as complete.

His campaign appearances were carefully staged events. Audiences were always kept waiting, deliberately letting the tension increase…

Wanted to pass a couple of things on that were brought up on Catholic Answers Forum End Times thread. One guy mentioned ...everything still feels strange or weird to me even what I write. I have actually deleted whole posts because I'm second guessing myself ... There is a line in the Lord of the Rings movies that sort of captures it and it goes "The world is changed. I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air."

To which I replied:

Don't second guess yourself. Every small data point helps graph this thing we're all feeling. I made an appointment and met with my priest yesterday to talk about this stuff, and he admitted even HE'S been feeling "tension", that something's going to happen soon.

This is a season of weird feelings, folks. We have a replay of Katrina churning across the Gulf heading towards New Orleans, on the 3rd anniversary of Katrina, which is also the 3rd anniversary of when the Israelis left Gaza under duress from the US. It's also the beginning of the Republican National Convention, at a time that Condi Rice is flying to and fro across the middle east trying to do what no man has done before: kill the Beast of the Mid-East Crisis. (Ah, but she is no man...)

(Sorry, in a Lord of the Rings mood...)

After making that post on "weird feelings," someone else posted these links:

(Note: when she originally posted her message at noon central time this morning, Gustav was expected to hit at 8PM Eastern time Sunday night. As of now, NOAA is saying 2PM Eastern Sunday afternoon.)

She then posted this link to an article about 8/8/8

After reading that, I was glad to read the first set of Church readings for Sept. 1, the first day of the Republican Convention:

When I came to you, brothers and sisters,
proclaiming the mystery of God,
I did not come with sublimity of words or of wisdom.
For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you
except Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
I came to you in weakness and fear and much trembling,
and my message and my proclamation
were not with persuasive words of wisdom,
but with a demonstration of spirit and power,
so that your faith might rest not on human wisdom
but on the power of God.

Hello everybody. This is the first time in two weeks that I have checked in. I was on vacation with no Internet access for a lot of that time. It was very unsettling! I was afraid the world was going to explode and I won't know anything about it. :-)

Jim C,

I agree with you that the Ark of the Covenant originally sat on the rock that is sitting under the "Dome of the Spirits" located to the north of the "Dome of the Rock". I am absolutely convinced of it. This means that the Third Temple can be rebuilt in the area to the north of the "Dome of the Rock".

You are correct about the threshing floor having to be smooth. Another one of the big proofs that the Temple was located to the north of the Dome of the Rock is that this location would place the Temple in line with the Eastern Gate of the Temple Mount.

When Christ returns, He is supposed to enter the sealed Eastern Gate and go to the rebuilt Temple to cleanse it. If the Temple was located to the north with the Holy of Holies located where "The Dome of the Spirits" is currently located, this would allow Christ to enter the Eastern Gate, then keep walking straight through the Beautiful Gate and then walk directly into the front entrance of the Temple without having to turn any corners. It makes perfect sense.

Grant Jeffrey talks about a few different pieces of evidence that the Temple was located to the north of The Dome of the Rock in his book "Armageddon:Appointment with Destiny". He also includes a couple of diagrams of how he thinks the Temple sat, and where the three Domes (Dome of the Rock, Dome of the Spirits, and Dome of the Chain), and the al-Aqsa Mosque currently sit.

That being said, I would love to see a stray missile, no matter who fires it, take out the Dome of the Rock! When I read one of Joel's novels (I think it was "The Ezekiel Option"), where it talks about a group of Israeli radicals trying to blow up the Dome of the Rock, or the al-Aqsa Mosque (I don't remember which of the top of my head), I was routing very hard for them! I don't recall ever being so disappointed when reading a book as I was when read that this group did not succeed. :-(

Maybe in Joel's next book? :-)

Very interesting about the Ark of the Covenant and the Temple and the gates...

I finally got around to watching most of tonights convention instead of bits and peices.
Next weeks RNC should be interesting, too!

Lori, enjoy your son being home!

This is the first I've heard about Hannah. These storms just seem to keep coming.

Lisa, Shalom! This is in reply to your message of August 28, 2008 8:38 AM.

Frankly, I don't know where to begin, except with something that sounds harsh, probably IS harsh, and is oh-so-important. I think you really need to be using a LOT more discernment on what information you consider authoritative.

You quoted a source talking about "The New Jerusalem Covenant Project". I had never heard of such a thing, so I had to do a bit of research to find out just what it is. Doing a Google search brought up a bunch of different sites, all of which seemed to be quoting the same article, some with permission and attribution, most not. Most of the pages were at least 4 years old.

(BTW, if you go to the Sabbath Covenant site [www.sabbathcovenant.com], be VERY careful. They've broken up the article into different pages and included links to the referenced news articles; however, all the links go through a site that is just an ip address, not a name, before being redirected to the correct site. This could be some kind of counter that they're using to generate ad revenue, but it's just as likely that it's a phishing site. The main Sabbath Covenant site is ... different. I can't figure out if they're Christian, Messianic Jews, or some new and wacky blend. Approach with caution.)

The original article is on "The Cutting Edge" website. It's a ministry whose purpose seems to be selling things to support the ministry. It does this through selling books, pamphlets, CDs and DVDs, all with amazing new information (their words) about the New World Order. For example, did you know that the Jesuits were responsible for World War 1 and 2 as part of their plan for world domination? I'm sorry, but the entire site reads like a conspiracy junkie's dream.

The original article that talks about "The New Jerusalem Covenant Project" actually starts out with a picture of Yassar Arafat kissing Pope John Paul 2's ring of office, with the headline, "A Covenant Between the Pope and PLO Leader Yasser Arafat Against the G-d and People of Israel and Jerusalem". There is a link to a "Temple Mount Faithful" article with that title, basically saying that the Pope and Arafat entered into a covenant (a holy agreement) to turn Jerusalem into an international city and to divide Jerusalem and the Holy Land! Of course I did some research to find out just what this "covenant" was. Lo, and behold, it turns out there was another group "Christian Action for Israel" whose website reprinted the Temple Mount Faithful article (again without attribution) leaving off the part at the end where the Temple Mount Faithful called on its followers, etc. The interesting thing is that this group then went on to reprint the covenant (innocently titled "BASIC AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE HOLY SEE AND THE PALESTINE LIBERATION ORGANIZATION") so that all could see what evil plans the Pope has for Israel.

A little background here: At the time the Basic Agreement was signed, of the 3.5 million Arabs living in territories claimed by the PLO, about 45,000 of these Arabs were Christians. These Christians were suffering under severe persecution. The Vatican considered it its duty to do what it could to get the persecution stopped, so a meeting was arranged between Arafat and the Pope. This Basic Agreement was the result. You can read the Basic Agreement by going here and scrolling about 2/3rds down the page.

I'm sure you'll agree that it's a perfectly evil document: it reaffirms "the need to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East;" it calls "for a peaceful solution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which would realize the inalienable national legitimate rights and aspirations of the Palestinian People, to be reached through negotiation and agreement;" and it declares that an equitable solution to the issue of Jerusalem, accomplished through peaceful negotiation, was essential to peace and that unilateral actions by any party is a no-no. (It didn't turn out that way, shockingly. You can read more about it here.)

My point in bringing all this up is that all of these different groups reprinted this one very biased and inaccurate article apparently either not checking the original story for accuracy or not caring about accuracy. It means that this one web site that you quoted cannot be trusted to be accurate (let's forget about fair) in its articles. It means you need have a LOT more discernment and do a LOT more research to see which of your sources can be trusted.

So to get back to your original question, no, I think it's VERY unlikely that the Pope will walk into the International House of Worship (today's special: Banana Buddha, served with curly fries and your choice of communion wine) and declare that all religions lead to God, so all religions are equal. Let's put it another way: There are two different creeds used in the Catholic Church: The Apostle's Creed, and the Nicaean Creed (which is the Apostle's Creed on theological steroids.) To me, the Apostle's Creed is so Catholic that I still remember the shock when I was 15 to learn that some Protestant Churches recite it. If it contradicts the creed, no one, not even the Pope, can declare it to be true. The only way the actions you describe could take place is if there is a schism. If there is a schism, there would be two men who would claim to be the true Pope. If one of these Popes were to do what you described, then you can know without any fear of doubt that this man is not the true Pope, but an anti-Pope.

Hi Donna,

Yeah, my wife and I had a great vacation, but we still haven't gotten in diving once yet this year. :-(

We rented a cottage with my relatives on a lake in Bracebridge, Ontario. The lake was tea colored, so the visibility for scuba diving would have been almost zero.

So...my wife and I decided to drive by Tobermory (the self-proclaimed Mecca of diving in Ontario) on the way home. When I say on the way home, it was actually 4 hours drive out of our way, so it really wasn't on the way home.

We pulled into the site we wanted to dive from at Tobermory, opened up the back of my pickup truck to get our dive gear out and almost on cue, it started to lightning and rain cats and dogs. It was the worst storm I had seen in awhile. My wife and I thought that standing in the water with steel tanks on our backs probably wasn't the best place to be during a bad lightning storm.

So...we closed up the truck and headed for the Tobermory Fudge Factory. Four hours was a long ways to drive for fudge and ice cream, but it is good fudge!

The signs for the Tobermory Fudge Factory start over 60 miles before you actually get there. My favorite one says "Losing weight? Fight back! Tobermory Fudge Factory" :-)

Jim C.

Good research on all of that info!

But let me clear up one misconception: I don't consider the information I post here
"authoritative."

The only "authoritative" thing I post here are quotes out of the Bible.

The rest of the prophesy info is all speculation.

If I find something interesting I do consider it in light of all the other thoughts floating around from various Christian teachers.

Like I said before-there are some who believe the RRC will be involved in the End Times & not in a positive light.

But-I have not bought/read any books which some may consider
"authoritive" on the prophetic RRC subject but I do know from what I have read is that their views are not far off from the 4 points the
"cutting edge" article had stated.

(And I agree specifically the "cutting edge" articles are appropriately named & you have to sift through the fluff.)

I have not read up on this RRC prophetic topic so I don't know what the respected Christian teachers use for their "sources".

My mind's vision is that I will not even end up with a crown but rather a substitute plack in heaven's "Worry Wart Hall of Fame."

Obviously if the Pope were to go along with "all religions" meld into one-the existing Catholic faith would have to be compromised.

Since I don't believe the Pope is infallible-to me it's certainly possible. With my own "branch" of Christianity going haywire & the warning of Apostasy in the End Times-the Catholic Church is not exempt.

"Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition"

Like I said it's FYI & JIC. If you’re interested I can post the names/books of what some may consider respectable teachers on the RRC in end time events.

The RRC is extremely high profile & political. The odds of it playing a major role in the end times are high. (Jim I think you agree w/me on that-but prophetically you believe it would be a "positive" role.I just don't see any mention in the Bible that Christianity plays a role other than being one of deception when you really get into the meat of the Last Days.(which to me is negative) It says stand fast in the Word and let no one deceive you. Many will fall away from the truth.)

Who want's to disagree with me on the RRC being involved given the odds? What other religious group is so entrenched @ this point in time?(Except for Rick Warren trying to sneak in there w/his P.E.A.C.E plan.)

2 Thessalonians 2:1-17

1Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

2That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

3Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

4Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

5Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

6And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.

7For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

8And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

9Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

10And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

11And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

12That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle. Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,
Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.

I can't remember who posted the link to the article in WND on the man behind Obamasama but that kinda goes along with the video I watched about 3 years ago on TV. The man that took Obama under his wing to promote and smooth the way was very interesting in and of his self. I am still trying to remember his name because it was a very connected person who could move mountains by just contacting the right people. Funny, that the news media has managed to leave out that info very quickly.

HAROLD, I feel sorry your disappointing attempt to get a little diving in. We made the trip to Bonaire, SA with the only objective to dive our fool heads off. We had made a very expensive reservation for a bare boat cat sail and it rained the whole time we were there. Bonaire doesn't receive that much rain but it did then. We didn't have the severe lightening but the winds were horrific. We could sail without any problem but the diving had to be done in sheltered areas and there just aren't that many sheltered areas there. Our wet suits were completely dry the whole time. We cut the trip short, went to Roatan and dove the area around the island, which were fantastic. But Bonaire remains our favorite from the previous trip we had made there in the middle 70's. Peter Hughes hadn't started his charter dives the first time we went and it was a wonderful trip.

As you can tell Harold, I don't have many people in Oklahoma to share dive experiences with and it really pleased me to learn that you love to dive also. Thanks for rekindling the memories.

ALESIA, you is his "Cheesecake" dear.

Have a great day everyone and keep praying for this country like your life depends on it because it does.

Wow! I nearly fell out of my chair when I read a CNN article stating who McCain just picked as his running mate!

First off, I have to admit that I had no idea who Palin was before I read the following CNN article:

McCain taps Alaska Gov. Palin as vice president pick

The lines in the article that really made me pay attention were:

"She was mayor and a council member of the small town of Wasila and was chairman of the state Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, which regulates Alaska's oil and gas resources, in 2003 and 2004."

"Palin chairs the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, a multistate panel "that promotes the conservation and efficient recovery of domestic oil and natural gas resources"

"Her husband is Todd Palin, who is a lifelong resident of the state and an oil production operator on Alaska's North Slope."

End Quote

My point is that McCain has chosen someone with a huge amount of influence in the oil industry in Alaska. Why is this significant? Well, I am glad you asked. :-)

Three weeks ago, atty and I were having a discussion about one of the most interesting conspiracy theories that I have ever heard of.

The theory sounded pretty outrageous at first, but after reading about who McCain picked for VP, it seems much more credible!

Three weeks ago, atty sent me a link to an MP3 of an interview with a guy named Lindsey Williams. Lindsey worked as a Baptist chaplain up in the Alaska oil fields in the late 70's.

Lindsey claims that some huge oil discoveries were made off of Alaska's coast during the time he was in the Alaskan oil fields. There are several large oil fields off of the Alaskan coast, but only some of the oil fields are being tapped. Lindsey claims that the oil field off of Gull Island contains more oil than all of Saudi Arabia.

He also claims that this fact has all been covered up. After the initial test wells were drilled at Gull Island, they were capped and no drilling has taken place since then.

Lindsey says that the reason for the cover-up is because certain people behind the scenes want to control the flow of oil and the flow of money. They want to keep North Americans buying foreign oil from places like Saudi Arabia so that they can control the price and get their cut of the profits. He says these people in control behind the scenes(most of whom he claims work for the World Bank and the IMF) buy the oil from countries like Saudi Arabia and then sell it to the oil companies at a high mark-up.

Lindsey claims that Henry Kissinger made a deal with the Saudis and some other Middle East oil producing countries back in the 70's that the U.S. would buy their oil from them in exchange for the Saudis financing the America debt as well as agreeing to only buy and sell the oil in U.S. dollars. Lindsey says that the only two countries that wouldn't "play ball" were Iraq and Iran.

Does this sound crazy? There is much more.

The connection I see to McCain's VP selection has to do with Lindsey's claims that the people controlling the flow of oil want McCain in power.

Lindsey claims in a recent interview (the MP3 I linked to below) that one of the people he knows who is one of this group of people who is controlling the flow of oil called him and told him that John McCain was their man and they were going to make sure that he gets into office.

If Lindsey's claims about the cover up in the Alaskan oil fields is true, McCain couldn't have possibly picked a running mate who appears to have more influence in the Alaskan oil industry than Palin.

Lindsey made these claims about McCain months ago, so you can see why I am really paying attention now that McCain has selected Palin as his running mate.

Lindsey wrote a book back in 1980 called "The Energy Non-Crisis" which talks about the Alaska oil discovery, the cover-up and a lot more. You cannot buy the book new anymore as he has apparently been threaten and told not to sell it anymore. You can buy it off Amazon used for anywhere from $114 to $1300!

However, I found a free online copy at this website:

The Energy Non-Crisis by Lindsey Williams

Here is a link to the MP3 of the interview that atty sent me:

Lindsey Williams interview

The interview is really long, but I found it very interesting.

The quickest way to absorb the information is probably to watch Lindsey's videos on youtube. Here is the link to the first part of an eight part video:

Lindsey Williams - The Energy Non-Crisis - Part 1 of 8

Even if all of this is true, I still like McCain a million times better than Obama.

Hi Grany,

Thanks for the sympathy and the great dive stories! I have never been to Bonaire before, but I imagine it was incredible in the mid 70's.

I went to Roatan a few years ago, but much of the coral had been destroyed by a hurricane a couple of years previous and there were very few big critters to see.

I have been to Cozumel (incredible coral, at least 11 years ago), Cuba (all fished out), and the Bahamas (I did a really cool dive with several sharks there). The diving off of the Florida Keys is also very nice. I think I have seen the biggest and the most critters off of Florida. The jelly fish I got on my face while diving there was a little too close however. :-(

I really hope we can dive when we get to heaven. Maybe we won't even need gear? If there is diving, I will definitely have to go for a dive with you Grany. :-)

God Bless,
Harold

Wow, Mc Cain's VP is an extremely strategic move. I'm also surprised he picked a woman but w/her background and "gender" I can see why.

My dear Lorraine. As if I'm not already in enough trouble she get's me into more situations.

I have a friend who has adopted our kids as an "aunt." Well, Lorraine had told her in the past through tears that she fears "auntie" is going to go to hell when she dies.

I've witnessed to my friend but there has been little response so I can't say much to the effect otherwise.

Today my friend calls me up (out of the blue) and lays into me about my "Christianity" coming between our friendship & how Lorraine is worried about her going to hell.

(The only thing I had ever said was to refrain from some of the movies they were allowing the kids to see-too worldy/teen sex types)

I had not stated anything about hell previously but today I got to voice my concern in agreement.

I heard the usual "I feel God this" and "I feel God" that. "Many Christians believe this & that" "I'm not scared about death (and her health is not great) because I'm a good person..." "My reality is this or that."

So I just made 3 points.

#1. What if your wrong?
#2. The "good person" theory leaves out Biblical truth.
#3.What it does say in the Bible it's quite clear.

It was like talking to a brick wall but we hung up on a nice note.
Sad though.

"My sheep hear My voice" was brought to mind not to worry about it.

Harold, I would love that Heavenly Dive and just think, Pearls, of untold size and shapes. Oh, it would be great but you know, I wish more people would experience the joy of seeing how beautiful the gardens under the water (seas) have been created and just enjoy the beauty of it all. One of my favorite dive spots was off of the Island of St. George very close to Belize. In fact, Belize has some exceptional dive spots but you see, we did most of dives back in the 70's, 80's and 90's. In fact, the one we did off of San Pedro Island in the Yucatan Peninsula (Ambergris Cayes) was right after the hurricane of 1969 and it brought up the remains of some very old ship wrecks that had been there unknown for ages. Didn't destroy anything at the spots we went to but did create some excitement. If you ever get the chance, do the Great Blue Hole dive just off of Belize City. When we were there the first time, it was still under British rule.

Beautiful fish, big, big ones too and I fell in love with the biggest Grouper I have ever seen. It would follow me all over and each time we went out to dive the wreck treasures, this big old thing would come and keep me company. I loved that fish!

Yes, I love the way Grany put it! You all planted a seed...that's what we do...plant seeds.

I remember when I first heard to gospel as a college freshman. I fought it tooth and nail and rolled my eyes and got annoyed listening to these people talk about it.

But then one day...boom...a light clicked on....and I realized it must be true.

Actually, I recall saying "God, if you are out there, let me know." And sure enough He did. All of these "coincidences" occured within a very short period of time, and I just "knew" it must be true.

It was pretty cool.

But all along I always had a sense that there was a God and that there was something bigger out there. I just did not know exactly what it was.

I think people's initial reaction
is usually typically negative when the topic comes up.

That's why I like to tell people there is a lot of "evidence" that it is all true, and bring up the prophecies and the news, etc, because those are tangible things or proof.

So, yes, His sheep will hear his voice and will go to HIm. Maybe not the first time they hear it...its often a process, at least it was for me.

donna said...

GT I have read part of the article. I started to read it when I was going to sleep last night and so far I think it's great!

I've mostly read about how he used to think that you had to request forgiveness for each and every sin before being forgiven, and how he's realized it's not necassary.
I agree with him.

It's our sinfulness that needs to be forgiven, not every little thing. Wow, my list would be so long I could never remember them all.

And don't forget...our righteousness is as filthy rags, so even things we think are good are not in His eyes.

Only things that we allow HIm to do thru us. That's what counts.

That is what I have been taught anyway and believe this is what the Paul teaches in his letters.

Blaise Pascal put it this way-
there is a 50/50 chance that Christianity is true-meaning it either is or isn't. If I believe and it is true I have gained everything, if I believe and it isn't true I have lost nothing. GT,

I read it. (Lori it's the Aug 28 2:18 GT post on Walking in the Spirit.)

I found it very well presented & reflects what I had in mind re: sin & confession but much more organized & detailed.

The author has obviously given it quite a bit of thought.

Grany,

The "Aquarium Restaurant" has a couple of those Goliath Groupers in it I believe. It's a chain but had not seen it until we moved to TN. I love the ocean & to think someday the earth will have no more sea? I wonder if there will be something even better!

Donna,GT,Grany,

Thanks for the encouraging words re:planting seeds. I'm one of those who never doubted the word of God (the seed was planted at a very young age)I just didn't always obey it. So there was never any doubt or skepticism for me to overcome but rather purposeful outright rebellion against what I knew better. You can probably relate to the "brick wall" senario better than I.

This is new interactive map of "Gustav". Notice in the article "BAR CODED BRACELETS".

New Orleans: Evacuate, or face Gustav alone.

Mississippi governor already has called for Gulf Coast residents to leave.Authorities issued the warning Friday as new forecasts made it increasingly clear that New Orleans will get some kind of hit — direct or indirect — as early as Monday.

And those among New Orleans' 310,000 residents who ignore orders to leave accept "all responsibility for themselves and their loved ones," said the city's emergency preparedness director, Jerry Sneed.

City officials also plan to announce a curfew that will mean the arrest of anyone still on the streets after the evacuation order goes out. Police will roam neighborhoods urging residents to flee, and officials will text-message residents with major storm developments. In addition, the city will reach out to churches, hoping to spread the word about where the buses will pick up evacuees.

In an effort to keep track of where people go after they leave the city, officials plan to give evacuees bar-coded bracelets containing their ID.

Confessionism: The Misuse of 1 John 1:9 by Jim Elliff

Harold said...

Grany,

You have done some really interesting diving over the years! I must say that I am really jealous of where you got to dive and when you got to dive. As you probably know, most dive sites nowadays are not as pristine as they would have been back in the 70's, 80's and early 90's.

I especially noticed this in Cuba. My wife and had to been extremely picky when we dove down there. Fortunately, we made friends with one of the dive masters down there and he took us to a dive site where nobody usually dives. There were some interesting critters there.

The only pristine diving I ever get to do is when I dive some of the deeper ship wrecks in the Great Lakes. There are almost no critters down there, the water is a frigid 38 degrees F, the visibility can be bad (5 to 10 ft) and there is a lot of required deco to do on a dive to those depths, but some of the ship wrecks I have been on almost no one has ever seen before. Very few people dive to those deeps and in those conditions, so most of the ship wrecks are very intact.

Three years ago, I dove a couple of schooners in Lake Ontario that sank in the mid 1800's. They had just been discovered and where almost totally intact. The visibility can be a spectacular 100 ft. or more in Lake Ontario due to the zebra mussels filtering the water. This shipwreck still had the ship's wheel, rigging, masts, bilge pump and cargo doors on it. It looked like you could have raised it, scraped off the layer of zebra mussels, put some sails on it and continued its voyage.

Here is a link to some pictures of it:

Lake Ontario shipwreck

Here is a link to some pictures of a shipwreck I dove in Lake Huron a few years ago.

Minnedosa

It was a four-masted schooner that was the largest sailing vessel ever built in Canada. The lumber it was built out of is huge! The two times I dove it, the visibility was only 5 to 10 ft, but the person taking these pictures obviously had much better luck the day he dove it.

This last one is a link to some pictures of the Vienna, which is a shipwreck I dove in Lake Superior.

Vienna

Lake Superior is extremely cold and it is pitch black at about 180 ft. On a trip there a few years ago, I dove a couple of wrecks in 250 ft. and 270 ft. of water respectively. It was pretty disconcerting when I hit 200 ft. and hadn't seen the wreck yet even though I was using a 50 watt halogen light!

That was back when I was young and foolish. I would be scared to death to do dives like that nowadays. Studying end times prophecy is much cheaper and safer. :-)

I forgot to say that I love Groupers too! They are like big puppy dogs. There was a particularly large one in Cozumel that I kept pretending to feed on one dive. I didn't actually have any food on me, but it was still easy to fool him into coming very close. How about that? I outsmarted a fish. :-)

I don't know where I would be if I didn't have you to question everything I say? :-)

I didn't "conclude" anything about McCain picking Pilan for his running mate. I think it is a great selection by him and I think she sounds like an incredible woman who deserves a lot of respect for the many things she has accomplished in her life so far.

What I did suggest was that McCain picking Pilan for his running mate is a big coincidence in light of the charges that Lindsey Williams levels in his book, radio interview, and videos. You will actually have to read, listen to and watch those to find out the details of these claims, as my very brief overview did not do his comments any justice. Maybe you will be better able to comment then?

As for her exposing corruption, and not being a "yes" man, I hope this is the case. On the surface, she seems to be on the up and up. However, as you probably read, she is currently under investigation concerning a police officer who was dismissed under questionable circumstances. Like Obama, she has risen to power in an extremely short period of time. That usually doesn't happen in the dirty world of politics without cutting some corners and doing some favors for influential people.

It is interesting that she is apparently currently in favor of drilling in the wild life reserve in Alaska, but John McCain isn't. It will be interesting to see which one of them will change their minds.

McCain could have gone a lot of ways with his VP choice, but I find it incredible that he picked someone with Pilan's background in the Alaskan oil industry in light of what Lindsey claims.

GT,

I read the article and these are my thoughts and comments.

1.) I did a simple search for the word "confess" using BibleGateway.com. It returned 41 verses that have some form of the word "confess" in the NIV (e.g. confess, confessed, confession, etc.) It looks to me like the word is usually talking about confessin something specific. So, that makes me question his interpretation of I John 1:9 somewhat.

2.) James 5:16 instructs us to: Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
This verse certainly sounds to me like it is talking about confessing particular sins.

3.) I think the author of the article makes a huge leap when he implies that those who believe that we ought to confess particular sins to one another are therefore saying that it is tied to one's salvation. If I believe that all Christians should go to church if possible, does that mean I am teaching salvation by works. Of course not. But I still believe that we should not fail to fellowship regularly (go to church). Salvation comes through faith in Christ. The result of faith in Christ is obedience to Him and His Word. Thus confession of sins (that is those sins we commit after entering into a saving relationship with Christ) may be a spiritually healthy practice that the Lord asks of us without it being a condition for salvation.

4.) I think both the idea that we need to confess that we are sinners in order to enter into a saving relationship with the Lord AND the idea that we should confess our sins to each other after we become members of the Body of Christ are not mutually exclusive or incompatible ideas. I believe that many Scriptures have multiple truths and we shouldn't be so quick to reject interpretations that are consistent with other Scriptures and sound doctrine simply because we have already found an interpretation that makes Scriptural sense. Of course, some interpretations are indeed incompatible with other interpretations. My point is that Scripture is very rich and God is able to make two points or more with a single Scripture if He pleases. Obviously, the Holy Spirit must be our ultimate guide.

5.) I looked up the verb tense used for the Greek word that is translated "confess" in 1 John 1:9. According to this NT Greek Quick Reference Guide it is Present Active Subjunctive.
Present Tense indicates CONTINUOUS ACTION
HABITUAL ACTION
OFTEN REFLECTS A LIFESTYLE

Active Voice --
Verbs in active voice picture the SUBJECT as the DOER or PERFORMER of the action. It represents the action as being accomplished by the subject of the verb.
Subjunctive Mood --
MOOD of PROBABILITY (possibility, potentiality) = expresses an action which may or should happen but which is not necessarily true at present. Suggests that the action is dependent upon some condition being met.

I think the verb's present tense (as compared to the voice and mood) sheds the most light in regards to the article. It sounds like confession is to be a Christian practice, not just a one-time event that happens when we repent and believe for the first time.

Having said all of this, I rarely confess my sins to brothers in the Lord (I don't think this it is good but I'm not Roman Catholic and don't have as much opportunity as I'd like). I guess I just did though, didn't I?

GT, After reading the article I would like to make a few comments.

I believe that we should ask God daily to reveal sin in our hearts so we can make a conscious effort to remove it through prayer and the cleansing of God's word.

I also believe that confessing to another person is effective IF you are confessing sin for purposes of accountability so that the other believer can walk with you as God helps you "clean up your act," and as long as you are not relying on that other believer for forgiveness, since only God can remove the sin. (run on sentence?)

On a personal note, I have a close Catholic friend who asked me once what I thought about confession. I shared I John 1:9 with her. If we confess our sins, GOD is just and able to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

I also shared my thoughts on accountablity. She now asks God for forgiveness, but goes to her priest once or twice a year to discuss areas of her life in which she is struggling. (Her mother is mortified)

In all this, I think it's important not to obsess on the sin thing. It's important for us to renew ourselves daily, but it your focus is on the sin and not on drawing closer to the Lord, we can get into a great amount of legalism which can stiffle our relationship.

It kind of boils down to this:

*Confess known sins to God.
*Ask forgiveness.
*Look for someone of the same gender who you can be accountable with.
*Seek His word.
*Rest in knowing you're His child.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

How to Try the Spirits by A. W. Tozer

Some great points on the "sin" note. I think GT's author focused in on the thought that if you sin & don't happen to confess it before you die that you could go to hell.

That is quite a dramatic thought but as I did find out-there are some people who actually believe that. It may have been hyper- Armenian based.

FYI-Years ago in High School I was being witnessed to by some girls in a "born again" group. (I forgot what church they were actually affiliated with)This was right before I got into the JW trap. I was friends w/them and was "listening" to the word & going to Bible studies & youth group meetings.

But eventually they got to the point of asking about my previous sins, and requesting me to confess them all to them.(I was reserved & somewhat stoic so there was no way I was going to tell a bunch of girls my age all my sins!)

Well that did it for me & the JW thing came along at that exact time. I was responsive and Wham-O. That messed me up for years after.

you make it easy :-) and fun and I know you aren't going to run away or get snarky if you are questioned.

regarding her meteoric rise-since she's a believer perhaps her rise has to do with our most powerful Friend of all? perhaps God has paved the way for her since she appears to be trying to do what is right. despite the fact that we live in a fallen world, there are still people who whether they are Christian or not are not comfortable abandoning the Judeo-Christian ethic etc that this country was founded on so since she appears to have values that she actually puts into practice that are mainstream she's likely an inspired choice. Besides, I seem to recall an interesting post back when Huckabee was still in the primaries from John that there was some sort of prophecy that some one had had that there would be a spirit filled leader in charge of the US before the Rapture. Since all true believers are Spirit filled, if McCain were to pass while President there would then be a Spirit filled leader at the helm of hte US. Can you imagine the chaos that would then ensue if the Rapture then happened and the President of the US was gone in a flash? Furthermore do you realize who that would leave in charge? Certainly the VP if she'd had time to pick one a la Ford otherwise it would be Pelosi!

My understanding of her ethics committee appointment was that it was a "treat" extended to her by the then governor she lost to, to bring her into the fold so to speak and she was sitting by the rnc's alaska chair-who she turned in for ethics violations and then resigned from said committee.

Since you are well aware that I am skeptical to say the least about Lindesy's stuff (given that at least one of his major points can be proven to be false-which we've discussed before) I see nothing conspiratorial about either McCain or Palin.

regarding her being investigated-time will tell on that one. apparently she fired someone who wouldn't fire a state trooper-who just happened to be her brother in law married to her sister and they were in the middle of a nasty divorce. that one may well turn out to be true which would be disappointing but since we are flawed humans not surprising.

jib said...

regarding the forgiveness thing-(I read it when you posted just forgot to post a response)

I didn't see that the author was hyper Armenian in fact I though he was speaking out against it.

his idea has some merit to it-since there are sins of both omission and commission it stands to reason that we might forget something. I do think if we remember specific sins those should be confessed specifically and I do think that we should ask God to bring things to mind. I would also submit that the closer our walk with God the less He will have to bring things to our attention. as to only specific being right-just how many of us were able to confess each and every sin we'd ever done when we first came to Christ-it was a general thing yes? so it would stand to reason in that a general forgive me of my daily sins is also a reasonable thing as well unless you can remember a specific instance.

I truthfully hadn't given much thought about the confessing our sins to one another-there really isn't anyone of the same gender that I am that close to that I would feel comfortable doing that with-well at least that lives near me. she currently lives in NOLA. I don't get the impression however from that passage that it is a closest friend thing but rather a general church thing. the potential for abuse is enormous. one of the things that counselors recommend is that if you are having problems with a spouse not to talk it over with some one that both of you are close to or family since if you reconcile some times the person to whom you were talking CAN'T forgive your spouse for the things that they did. I tend to be a very private, cautious individual and the idea of confessing anything to anyone but a really super close personal friend makes me really anxious. that would be giving too much power to some one else over me. they could accidentally share with some one else, hold it over my head etc.

jib said...

nor would I be comfortable with someone confessing to me since I might forget and say something etc.

I guess I always saw that verse as a confess to the person that you've sinned against-if it was a sin that only affected your relationship with them and no one else then speak to just them, if it was a sin that affected the corporate body of Christ then confess before the Church.

I do remember the latter. a young couple in the church I went to with my parents anticipated their marriage vows and were going to have a baby rather early. A couple of months after the wedding they actually confessed the matter before the church. I was stunned to say the least on a whole host of accounts. It remains the only time I have seen that done and I doubt very highly that they were the only members of that church to ever find themselves in that situation.

Jib,
When I was attending Life Center, in Tacoma, WA., it was when Pastor Fulton Buntain was Pastor. (since retired. Mark Buntain, was his brother-the famous missionary to India)
Anyhow, I remember Pastor Fulton Buntain saying, (more than once) that if he was ever going to take anything from the RCC it would be the confessional booth :) Yeah, I know, it kinda blew us away, the first time we heard it. But, he went on to say, that having been a Pastor for over 50 years, (at the time) that he'd counseled many people, that had they confessed their sins, (out loud) to a Pastor, Priest, things would have been resolved at the time. And not gone on to cause emotional problems with the person. Basically, getting it off your chest, sort of a deal, I suppose. And this is an AOG church :)

Pastor Buntain also had a thing about releasing your problems during prayer time at church. It was great! He said, during this time, to bring all your problems to God, and give them to Him, and then leave them in His capable hands. Nothing new there, and all Bible based. But he'd seen when people were (basically) instructed to do something, they felt better about confessing their sins, giving their problems to God, and leaving them there, etc.
Anyhow, I wanted to share that, for what it's worth. However, I have to say, that everyone I knew at Life Center loved Pastor Buntain, and there was great love and peace within that body of believers.

My two cents worth.

Along with confess your sins, and leave them at the cross.

Dicernment Video on Rick Warren & Falling Away of the Church

***Beware-it's off the "cutting edge" website (:

If you stick w/it the video shows the "trend" of where the corporate church is heading & what is discernibly influencing it.

Let me attempt to explain something for those of us who are not against what some may consider "conspiracy theories."

We agree that we are @ war spiritually not against flesh & blood but against wicked spirits in another dimension or "high places". We can not see into that time/space. (Unless you go w/mislead into the 3rd heavens) but what we can see is the result of their schemes on earth.

The end result being Christians who are deceived. So in my minds eye I see it in peeling back of layers. Some people are more comfortable looking deeper and some prefer to see the tangible and obvious.

It's safer to stick w/the obvious as no one will criticize you for it. People believe what they can easily see. Following is a very "rough" idea of how/why I look @ what some may consider on "the fringe".

The 1st layer is obvious. Deceived Christians & others.

The 2nd layer back is what is visibly influencing (when compared w/scripture) the deceived.
(False doctrine, fleshly actions, emotional experiences-as in the article Lori posted How to Try the Spirits)

The 3rd layer is not so obvious and is covered up in the corporate "marketing" economic machine. (Packaged "spiritual" seminars, popular Christian books & videos, worldy TV & Entertainment ,etc.)

The 4th layer is hidden in what is influencing the "political" system which eventually trickles down to what everyone has to deal with:
(Gay agenda, right to life, state sponsored education-Evolution & moral values ,personal freedoms, motivation for public policies: oil, wealth, greed etc..)

The 5th layer is the religious umbrella controlling all the "arms" of the beast through-all out Satanism, Wicca, New Age, Bahia,Illuminiti,Hindu,Islam,
Judiasm, all the way down to the deception in the Church it's self. (It appears as if all of these "religions" are on the track to converging @ some point. I'm not as sure about Islam as it stands now-Convert or Die scenario-but it does seem to play a major development in the end times.)

There is probably even more of what I termed "layers" working together to bring about what we are spiritually fighting against and what is permissible by God to happen in order to bring about what we are ultimately looking forward to @ the 2nd coming of Christ & the destruction of it all.

So what most of us post here covers the gamut of all these "layers". Some people such as myself are a little more "adventurous" in what we are willing to explore. Such as "secrete societies" and how they influence actual society and the like. The idea if "angels mixing w/the seeds of men" (It did happen before). Political motivations that are hidden from the general public, etc...

So in all my rambelings on I don't know if it made any sense at all but like I said-it was an "attempt" to explain the interest.

Realizing that there is a great value in those who are cautious as it keeps us "adventures" grounded.

That is why revisiting the Bible and God's word daily is of unlimited value & importance. Othewise we could be swept away by every wind of doctrine as we face that gigantic broom daily.

(Especially if your actively out in the world speaking to people about faith & Christ. You have to be prepared to get hit w/anything.)

I thought of you when I read this and thought also of my brother and of myself in times past. if is from today's My utmost for his highest at the blueletter bible site.

"Once you have the right relationship with God through salvation and sanctification, remember that whatever your circumstances may be, you have been placed in them by God. And God uses the reaction of your life to your circumstances to fulfill His purpose, as long as you continue to "walk in the light as He is in the light" (1 John 1:7 )."

my brother was excited to have his job he just got but it was his sceond choice. you know what the "match" for residency is all about and I will tell you that I did not match. I cried for 4 hours straight. I had to go to the scramble session and jaws dropped when I walked in from the faculty-they could not understand why I had not matched. And then I ended up in WV in a what I thought was a back water program and I certainly saw my dream of an academic medicine career go poof-it was 5 long tough years which I hated, I felt abandoned by God and so abandoned Him (but that still small voice was always there). Why did I end up there-I think because it retrospect it was the right place for me, it was my refining fire moment, and my "godchild" is alive in part because of my friendship with her mother. While I didn't think so at the time I didn't match and to an extent while I was there, it was the perfect place for me to be.

Lisa,

I don't always have things against conspiracy theories and in actuality it wouldn't surprise me if some of it was actually true. But the truthfulness of it I find to be irrelevant. Really, suppose there is a conspiracy on the part of big oil or other shadowy figures to keep us from being energy independent-so what.

I expect certain things to have to happen for a one world order to come about. Is there a shadowy cabal actually in charge of presidential politics and has been so since our country was founded. again so what.

what none of the secular conspiracy theorists realize or care about is that God is in control and there is nothing happening here on the earth that He is unaware of. As far as Christians like Lindsey getting caught up in geopolitical conspiracy stuff-again our citizenship is not of this world although I think many times we forget that.

when the political starts to meddle in the realm of spiritual and moral (abotion, gay marriage, promoting liberal educational agendas) I think it is reasonable and indeed biblical for Christians to take a stand against that but we are not called to be Americans, Australians or anything else-we are called to be the sons and daughters of God and salt and light to a dying world. One of the unfortunate side effects of Christians buying into or promoting the ideas of geopolitical conspiracy, whether true or not, makes us look like nutcases, and therefore dilutes our effectiveness in proclaiming the gospel. If people think you have nutty ideas about politics and shadowy cabals-really how likely are they to listen to you on something that actually matters in the eternal scheme of things?

does the geopolitical make the moral conspiracy easier very likely. shadowy secret cabals etc I personally see as Satan's attempts to manipulate history and the world scene to accomplish his ends. I know who wins so it doesn't really bother me.

JIB, Your take on Palin lines up with what my first impression was. She is genuine and a gutsy broad (so the boys at the poolhall say). But I know that I immediately liked her and felt our prayers were being answered. Remember the scripture passage in Isaiah 59:19, the prophet Isaiah says, "So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and His glory from the rising of the sun [from east to west, or literally around the globe, people will come to God the Father through Jesus Christ]; when the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him."
People often put the emphasis on " when the enemy comes in like a flood." But when you study this particular passage out in Hebrew, it says that the flood is on the part of God. In fact, Smith and Goodspeed in The Bible: An American Translation, say, "He [God] will come like a pent-up stream, which the breath of the Lord drives on."
In this hour, when the enemy comes against us, God is going to come back with His power which will be released through you and me. When the Spirit of God dwells on the inside of us and He raises up the standard, He will raise it up from within us. This is why we need to have a good deposit of God's Word in us. We are the living jars full of the Holy Spirit. We are Aged to Maturity and fully equipped to be all that HE Called us to be.

Oh, boy, I better stick with scuba diving. By the way Harold, I really enjoyed the links to the ship wrecks you shared. Thank you big time. I think I will stick with warm water dives though. Hi all;
Thank you all for the wonderful and thoughtful replies to the article I posted. When I first read the article it reminded me of the debates that were taking place on the subjects of eternal security, calvinism, and true salvation. Most of all it has generated the following thoughts.

1) I have heard many teach that (unconfessed ) sin causes us to be out of fellowship with God and until we confess and repent we are not in fellowship with Him.
2) If the Blood of Christ is constantly cleansing us and renewing our fellowship then how can no. 1 above be right.
3) If no.1 is correct then we are constantly in and out of God’s fellowship and always in danger of loss of salvation or at least loss of fellowship.
4) As the author stated one who does not walk in the light(all the time) is not a true Christian. How much sin then is enough to cause us loss of fellowship or loss of salvation?

I am also aware of the verses by Paul that state that we are continually being cleansed and forgiven and this is a constant thing in the christian life. This has caused me to look at the "wretched man" verses in Romans in a different light.

Rom 7:23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
Rom 7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
Rom 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

I think Paul is saying that he (being a follower of Christ) is in capable of doing what is right if not for the indwelling Spirit of God and the constant cleansing of the Blood of Jesus which keeps him walking in the light and in fellowship with God. If this is the correct interpretation, then how can eternal security be wrong? This also causes a delema for the idea of being out of fellowship with God for unconfessed sin. Any thoughts? I don't expect to solve the debate but it could shed some light. God Bless!

Wow, my thoughts exactly on the conspiracy end of things. I think we may be facinated by "mysteries" that appeal to the mind? Who doesn't love a good mystery novel? We have a need to make sense of what we see happening. Also we seem to forget the calling to be salt and light to a lost world.

I would half believe that Lindsey Williams is right (I seem to remember when Alaska was a new state that it was said the energy reserves were enough to solve all our needs for a long time) but if the powers that be are now controlling, and God is "letting" there is nothing to be done. I do however think that Palin is an excellent choice, perhaps she can help to overcome the bias on developing the energy in her home state (along with strengthening Godly values in Washington), one can hope and pray.

Jib,

Ok so what do you do if you run into someone involved with the Freemasons? How do you tell them what there involved with is not really "Christian"?

What if by chance you meet someone in skull & bones? Or Illuminati?

Depending who you associate with it may never be the case. In my case it's very possible.

I'm required via marriage to go to events where the "power players" are. It's very political-not that I've ever cared a hoot or am impressed by it-but from an evangelizing standpoint you meet people in these circles. These types are net workers and form bonds for business.(Money,Power,Ego)

I could avoid the topic all together and talk "end times" but if I know their "mindset" there is an advantage in how I would approach the subject.

"End times" is already a fringe concept and people think we are nuts by mentioning this as well. Both Christian & non-Christian.

So if you bring it up in evangelizing welcome to the nut house. Some people respond and are as bizzare as I am. (Well, probably not quite as bizzare!)

What if I meet an architect or someone who appreciates architecture? That's also likely to happen in the design field.
I can talk about Frank Lloyd Wright and where his "vision" came from & Illuminiti Architecture. Or if I'm touring a popular site I can point out the symbolism.

So in my case it does not make a difference in the entire scheme of Satan's plans to have knowledge in what others label "conspiracy theories" but I can use Satan's evil for good intentions.

I'm able to bring up these topics in an appropriate manner and not run up to every potential believer and whack them over the head with it. Discretion is definitely in order.

**The oil thing. It's a very hot topic right now. I'm not in the oil business but it's an interesting theory & and could be a lead into further conversation re: Christ & His coming Kingdom.

What I'm not going to do is wear a billboard and start a political movement against the government. That does nothing for our mission here on earth.

So where you find no value I find value & that is why our viewpoint on the matter is opposing.

Speaking of keeping our nationalism in check I took out some great thoughts from that book I just read

Following are some excerpts from the "Unchristian America" book:

“The sincerity of the heart before God is the great underlying them of the Sermon on the Mount. If we fail to recognize this, we will misinterpret and misapply everything Jesus taught. It’s not politics that Jesus rejected put the pursuit of power. It’s not prosperity that’s wrong, but the pursuit of riches. It’s not knowledge that Jesus abhorred, but legalism and hypocrisy. Here’s the problem though: The one often leads to the other. Power, wealth, and knowledge are intoxication. Political power makes us self-important. Economic power makes us self-sufficient. Religious power makes us self-righteous.”
(pg 208)

Titus 3:1-3 “Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men. For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.”

“To speak evil of no one” means to refrain from cursing, slandering, and treating others with contempt. As John MacArthur has noted, “We can never use speech with a righteous motive.” We are to be peaceable and gentle, which means fair, moderate, and forbearing toward others. In so doing, we are recognizing that God has placed us in communities and that He has chosen us to be stewards of His grace. We are to be “subject to rulers and authorities,” not just through obedience to the law, but through the attitudes of our hearts. We can disagree with leaders and let them know of our disagreement, but we cannot disparage and belittle them without stepping outside the authority of God’s Word.” (pg 143)

“In a world that values power & control, a world that promotes material success and career advancement, I must exhibit the servant hood of Christ in my most intimate relationships. I must also live within my community as a good citizen-one who honors the king and submits to the powers that are ordained by God. Certainly, I must defend what is moral and just; I must identify myself, even as the early Christians did, with the nonnegotiable values of life and truth. I should be a good steward of my vote and exercise that right of citizenship as God gives me wisdom. But I should always do this with humility, knowing that I represent God to the world……..In a darkening post-Christian world where people fear terrorism, global warming, and nuclear proliferation, the lives of Christians must be the “light of the world” We must be, as Jesus called us, a city on a hill that cannot be hidden.” (pg 211)

(I personally find some of these Obamaism’s humorous but I also forget that others may find the light of Christ dimmed in retrospect.)

Lisa,

conversing knowledgebly about something and believing something are two entirely different things. Whereas I have some knoweldge of many of the conspiracies I remain skeptical as to their complete veracity. Further more except for certain people most of the folks I talk with on a fairly regular basis would be very turned off by talking about illuminati etc because they think people who believe in that stuff are unintelligent and misguided. I agree with GT it certainly is fun to speculate but that's about it for me.

My point remains however-if you tell someone who is involved in fremasonery that he is not involved in an actual Christian group and it's really satanic and going to help take over the world because of what some conspiracy theory says-how far do you think you are going to get with the gospel with this person? I pretty much think they'll tune you out quite frankly and discount anything else you have to say.

Personally at this time in history I think talking end times is far more likely to open more doors than the latest conspiracy theory since it also is a hot topic on tv. A better opening would be to be knowledgeable on what is going on in the ME, and Far East and the ramifications of different policies. Being knowledgeable about a topic that isn't considered fringe lunacy by the "intelligenstia" with whom you are required to associate because of marriage is far more likely to open doors for the gospel. I talk to my fellow docs and other community members about a range of topics-one thinks I'm wicked smart and know a lot course he's biased because he's Jewish and he knows I'm a zionist.

Being a good citizen does not mean believing every conspiracy theory that comes down the pike either. To me a good citizen is one who prays for their leaders, votes their consience, does good works in their community or nationally if appropriate and stands up for what is right and biblical. beyond that I don't think we have any obligations as citizens.

donna said...

Lori...that is a VERY interesting list of names and meanings!

Very cool! Not to mention the order they are in.

I wonder if a Christian who is familiar with end times put that together.

Plus that must have taken a lot of time, effort and creativity to put that all together!

Thanks!

In the Cross and the Switchblade" (the true story of David Wilkerson who helped bring gang members in NYC to Christ) he writes about a theory called the 'dog-bone theory" or something like that.

This theory states that to win folks over to Christ, rather than bashing whatever they are into, to instead show them something better. Then they will drop whatever it is that they are into (hopefully) and go for the better thing.

That has stuck with me for so many years, and I like it!.

Grany when we get there you will have to introduce us to him! (Grany knows David Wilkerson personally, for anyone who may not already know that.)

Good point and said better than how I said it.

I should note that while it is fun to be knowledgeable about such conspriacy theories the reason I state that for me they are irrelevant are that I don't worry overly much about whether they are true or not.

Campsmore, TWInkle Toes you did really good and I agree wholeheartedly with Donna. That list is a real I opener. I can't help but wonder if the progression of the list is in play but I do know one thing for sure; God is moving and if this country doesn't stop horsing around we're going to be running for the hills and caves real soon. I read quite a report on the after math of the Lakeland episode sent to me by Steve Strang of Charisma. My heart breaks because of the intense pain all of the notoriety has created in the body of Christ but it could have been prevented. When something is so wrong and people react so strongly, it isn't a good thing to turn a deaf ear.. At no time was there a sign that God was receiving any glory of any kind. When the headlines and all the talk dies down, what about the residue?

For this reason, I am joining Joyce in her statements about being too involved and knowledgeable of hidden agendas. I know there are hidden goals in a lot of people's life but as a Christian visiting with others outside of my family, it isn't my place to attack any area of their life or beliefs. If they ask why I have a hope that doesn't die then I have permission to address their inquiry. But to attack their associations is not the way to open the door of communication. If anyone approached me in that manner before I was Christian or even after, I would politely find a means of excusing myself and withdraw. I would also take the means of affording any further contact. So, there are better avenues of sharing God's Love and if we just let the Holy Spirit lead and direct us in this, we afford a better response opening.

I also feel it isn't important to show everyone how much we know when we are visiting at social functions. Remember Paul at Athens? I would imagine Paul downplayed the extent of his intelligence to the Greeks in order to be able to expound on the virtues of God and His Son, Jesus Christ.

Whether I am intelligent or not is not the issue; the fact is, I was just a sinner, and now I am saved by Grace and the Love of God speaks volumes.

On another note; I have this tremendous caution and very sober mood today and I can't seem to get past it. About the same as a STORM WARNING IN MY HEART. i don't mean it is a storm I am worried about and I am not really worried just an uneasiness in my Spirit man. Something is happening and I am feeling very, very tearful.

Gotta pray!

Grany

batten down the hatches there girl!

I need to try and contact my friend in NOLA and see what she's going to do. she is the medical director of her hospital's urgent care so she felt during Katrina that it was necessary for her to stay. her hubby and kid stayed in the hospital with her and hubby developed some sort of gnarly foot infection because of wading into Katrina water to get water to flush the overflowing toilets! she'll probably stay this time also. on a side note, the medical community in NOLA has never recovered from Katrina-they are woefully understaffed from the medical side (doctor and nurse) for any kind of disaster such as might be heading their way.

on the other side ,I noted today on one of the news shows that people are lining up in droves to take buses out of NOLA!

we also have family in Houston.

our weather here has been more violent than usual for this time of year. usually the monsoon thunderstorms are pretty much done but we've been having an over abundance of them this year and for longer than normal. I think we've had one every night this week-not the norm for sure. a couple times I thought we were in for another micro burst or two or even a tornado-which are thankfully very rare. in fact the thunder is starting up again right now so need to sign off.

How did we get from theories to being a good citizen? Sorry I just don't see how that connection was made. It’s an entirely different subject matter.

And telling someone who’s an Illuminati they are really a Satanist? What type of discretion would that be? I may be blunt at times but I'm not a callused individual.

Most people don't even know what an "Illuminati" is in the 1st place.

So here we are again-taking one thing someone tries to explain in an honest fashion in which there is a disagreement to the total extreme in order to discredit what was originally stated.

Don't forget I'm married to an attorney. It's a tactic I'm all too familiar with.

The power is on the side of the general public opinion on this one. It's a controversial subject and also very easy to make the other side appear foolish. Similar to those who believe in "Alien" life forms.

I'm thankful there are people who will go against the grain and look into the matters most people would prefer to avoid.

At one time the worldview thought the earth was flat too. (Guess they didn't read their Bibles)

So I will leave it at that.

campsmore said...

and me... talking about the weather

jib said...

Lisa,

1-you brought up the topic of citizenship with your post from the book you are reading.

2-going against the grain is fine but it depends on what you are using the information for and why. if you are going against the grain because it would be biblical to do so that is fine-I just don't understand why you think there is any profit in knowing all this stuff about conspiracy theories since I doubt having this knowledge really falls under any sort of scriptural mandate. in fact one could just as easily say that if Christians give credence to this stuff that some how this will tie into the great lie that people believe after the rapture.

3-you brought up the topic of mixing with people and having to know this stuff because of that. you asked me directly what I would do if I ran into a free mason and implied somehow that either you tell them they were involved in some sort of satanic organization or that I would say something of the sort because I don't have knowledge about conspiracy theories.

4-how have any of us who have disagreed with you taken anything to any extreme in order to discredit anything you are saying?

The comment I made about the dog bone theory was not geared toward anything you said, Lisa.

However, personally I try not to focus on too many things that make me uncomfortable...astrology, mediums, etc, and other things the Bible says to stay away from.

I didn't read your post about those theories and have no idea what an iluminati is, and am really not interested in it, personally.

The other day you wrote something about gay marriage or something and you said that since it frustrated you, that perhaps you would start focusing more on Biblical things.

Well, I guess that's what I do.

There so much crap out there that people are into...there's no way I would want to focus on any of it.

There are so many biblically related things that I want to focus on and I barely have enough time to do that.

yes it was quite storm-we've had several like that lately. nothing like lightening and thunder happening simultaneously right over your house and on all sides. I forgot to go look for whatever got hit last night-it was quite a crack of thunder. not so sure it didn't shake the house a little.

i lost my love of looking at and enjoying electrical storms the time I had to work in one... at a water park...on the highest slide on the property... at least 200+ yards from the lights in the parking lot which were the same height as the slide... surrounded by a chain metal fence. I sat on one of the rubber slides and wrapped myself up in another one. man was i glad when they finally decided that the storm wasn't going to pass and we could go home.

Late Night Lisa said...

Jib,

1.The Citizenship clip was a new post and topic. (I was switching the subject entirely)

2.None of these theories are a scriptural mandate your right. Neither am I proposing that it should be. I was just explaining why I and a couple others may find it interesting. (At one point the RFID microship was and may still be considered a "conspiracy theory.") We were all made to have different interests and be used in different ways. It would be quite boring if we all liked the same things and were cloned.

3. I was asking the question if you spoke w/someone involved w/freemasons would you bring up some of those points-(meaning if the conversation was headed that way) and have the ability to explain the reasons why their traditions were not in accordance w/the Bible? Or was it better not to talk about it all together?

It was just a question.

4.I can see the point of avoiding a head on collision but you presumed that I was speaking of attacking the person with my knowledge by mentioning I'd tell them they were a Satanist. Donna took it that way. She mentioned the word "bashing". Grany took it as "attacking their associations."

Then you assume I would bring up this "fringe lunacy" of conspiracy theories to the "intelligentsia" with whom I am required to socialize with. What kind of talk is this? It's really absurd. I specifically was speaking of Illuminati, skull & bones, and Free Masons in this regard. These are the type of people that are at some of the functions I reluctantly attend. (Believe me I rather be home reading the Bible or taking to you.)

Would I bring up a "fringe lunacy" topic of Aliens? No. If it came up and the person was interested and involved in it-Yes.

That's called using discretion. If I were the person you describe I'd be some mentally unstable nut case. A simple comment was taken to the absolute extreme.

When someone is painted in this kind of light of course everyone is going to agree w/your assumption. Even I agree. Apparently the wording should have been more detailed in my question as not to leave it open for interpretation.

Should we always be ready to give an answer or not? Personally I would find it helpful to know the background. Having some knowledge about Freemasons, Illuminati, JW's,Mormons, New Age,Rick Warren,Joel Olsteen- is all the same. They are all false religions or deceptive Christianity. Do I obsess about it and every detail? No. But I want to know enough of their beliefs to be able to respond within reason with a quick & accurate Biblical reply.
