The Old Rugged Cross

To the old rugged cross I will ever be true;
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then He’ll call me some day to my home far away,
Where His glory forever I’ll share.

So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.

Shoot, Alesia, I thought I was going to be first!

Jib, I left this for you at Joel's after your comment about not having the book yet. Thought you might be serious about not visiting his blog for awhile.

"jib, serious advice: don't buy the book until you are free to read with abandon! If you are like me you will not be able to stop reading until you finish."

Anne said...

Yes, Hyde, good choice. My aunt's favorite song but I don't know the tune (she's not much of a singer)

:-)

campsmore said...

I love that song! My mom used to sing it a lot. It's also the first song I learned in sign language. Actually, I think it's the only song I learned in sign language... Oh wait, make that "Jesus loves me" also.

Mr Hyde said...

I've been thinking about a new name for the cave. I'm thinking that "Mr Hyde's Place" isn't really appropriate now.

What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

Alesia said...

eeeewwwww, did you know?

Easter
This name comes from the Saxon word (Eostre), denoting a goddess of the Saxons, in honor of whom sacrifices were offered about the time of the Passover. Hence the name came to be given to the festival of the Resurrection of Christ, which occurred at the time of the Passover. In the early English versions of the Bible, this word was frequently used as the translation of the Greek pascha (the Passover). When the Authorized Version [King James Bible] (1611) was formed, the word "passover" was used in all passages in which this word pascha occurred, except in Act 12:4. In the Revised Version the proper word, "passover," is always used.

DON'T you dare change the name!

The Old Rugged Cross

The Old Rugged Cross by Sandi Patty

(The first one I think was something about Riverband Jazz)

And while I'm at it:

Sandi Patty How Great Thou Art

Hope this works.

Alesia said...

Ok, now that I'm done with my temper tantrum...

I understand, Mac, what you're thinking & I think it's most noble & very sweet of you.

My vote is still to keep the name as is. It's a unique name, not one that will be easily found from seekers.

But, did you have something prticular in mind?

rg said...

See, Hyde, mac and I told you to leave the name alone.

jib said...

Alesia

yup. Also after the Persian goddess Ishtar as well. many of our traditions of Easter such as bunnies, easter eggs etc can be traced in some fashion to pagan customs just as most of our Christmas traditions also have roots in pagan customs. there is a movement a foot of sorts amongst some Christians that they do not celebrate Christmas for example because even the date is a pagan holiday.

jib said...

I was thinking of another song-may be I'll update my blog for a change :-)

Anne
I was serious but get all the comments sent to my inbox of email so while I might not visit the site I do get the comments. I did respond to you there!

jib said...

repost

well this will likely get lost in the change between posts but for what it's worth I don't think the 5:09 poster was Joel. The spelling was atrocious and how would he know that any of you had been posting but not under your blue name?

I for one think we should all take a break from Joel's, let things die down and then re visit the site after Resurrection Day. I just left a post about his interview schedule etc.

I think whomever the 5:09 poster is it is the same one who reminded Jim he wasn't going to answer Glen again. I believe he only said that here and not at Joel's but I did read things rather quickly.

My take is that it was either Grany or Child of the King.

although I'd bet the former rather than the later.

Mr Hyde said...

I draw a mental blank on a different name and I'm happy to leave it the way it is. I don't consider this just "my" blog and wanted to know your thoughts.

How about, "Dr Jekyll is a wimp"?

Just kidding.

Anne said...

What? Change? Ooooh, change is so hard!

But I would go for Mr. Hyde's Cave.

What did you have in mind?

Alf Cengia said...

The anonymous comment (whoever it was) scolding us, was timely, I think.

Speaking of Grany, I haven't heard from her for a while. Has anyone got any news?

Anne said...

There hasn't been an anonymous comment since 7:50pm ET.

Could they have gone??

Wishful thinking?

Jib, I started the book last night and didn't get a thing done until 1:00 this afternoon...couldn't stop till I finished, except to sleep a few hours and I think I checked in here this a.m.

Alesia said...

yep, knew that was what you were thinking Mr Hyde.
It doesn't matter what the name is, we all feel this is "Our Cave" anyway. Right folks?
So, keep it!

Jib - I've always known that the holidays were from pagan traditions. When I first became a Christian, years ago, I refused to celebrate Christmas & Easter in a religious way. (maybe some JW influence as well) I've softened somewhat on that now.
But, I don't think I ever looked up the words meanings before, interesting.

Alf Cengia said...

Apparently there is one heretic here who has never read a Rosenberg book.

jib said...

keep the name the same. you are after all the host. and as was said it does make it much more difficult to find. it really isn't the first place I'd think to look for us! :-)

I used what I was thinking of on my blog.

don't know the complete veracity of any of these sites and would suspect that neither are Christian in the sense that we accept. They may in fact be pagan sites for all I know but the material is interesting

Shalom, all! I haven't taken the time to check out those "tradition" links, but I do know that in German, the word for "Easter" has the same root as the word for "East", as in Christians were the people of the East, i.e., the rising sun. (BTW, the German name for "Austria" literally means "Eastern Kingdom".)

Shalom, all! I was wondering if anyone here had heard of a show called "Dateline Jerusalem"? I have my DVR set up to record "Drive-Thru History", which normally is at 4:30 AM on Trinity Broadcasting Network. This week, though, I got the last 90 minutes of "Dateline Jerusalem", which covers the events of Holy Week as if they were occurring today, complete with on-the-spot coverage and tomorrows headlines in the Jerusalem Post and Ha'Aretz. It's going to be on again Sunday morning at 3:00 AM Central time. This time I'm going to get the whole thing.

Here is the link to the Walid Shoebat interview I spoke about last week:

Interview Walid

I have already read his book "Why I left Jihad." and a DVD-but there was some more insightful information from this interview as well.

He mentioned:

"By Peace he will decieve many"-Islam-the religion of peace"

Why Islam treats women so badly and why Satan hates women.

Christians should be as wise as a serpent but as innocent as doves.

Islam-Muslims have badges on heads already (we discussed this again not long ago here)

Isaiah 34:9 When they talk about "Pitch" means "Oil."

Islam-Suicide-In Islam if you present yourself as a martyr you are able to interceed for 70 of your family members when you present your own dead body as a sacrifice. (That's why it's such a party when a family member does jihad)

The crescent moon=Mystery Babylon the Great.

And lots of other good stuff.

(Don't like the music?-FF It's really worth it)

OK, and where's Grumpy when you need him? We were really into this.

I know he doesn't come around much but is he gone for good or what?

Grumpy-I'm mad at you.

Hello, Are you still out there?

Lisa

Nate,

I took a break from Joel's today.

I did however just look up the 5:09pm post you thought may be his.

The mis-spelling? suspicious

This final quote:

"Each of you know in your heart that what you have engaged in here on Joel's blog will be burned up as stubble at the Bema Seat of Christ."

I don't think he would ever say that. That is not a sprirt of "Christ."

Of course I don't know him personally but I saw him speak, have watched his interviews, and he seems like a mild mannered rational person.

He has not portrayed that hateful spirit before so I don't believe it to be him.

The other comments I could possibly have gone with but this one is the dead give-a-way.

They should have stopped short.

WOW - Was that a GREAT article you posted.
Thanks so much!!!

Late Night Lisa said...

Mac,

Thanks for the "Passion" link. That was a good article. I liked how he futher expounded on "Love."

Our pastor really slices and dices us here-not a whole lot of "nicey, nice" talk.

He's really let us have it this week. He has been sending us a link everyday for "Passion Week". We watch a short clip, then he askes us some questions, read scripture, meditate on what is said, then posts a prayer.

Questions such as:

What does it mean to serve and follow Jesus Christ?

Are you following Him more closely than a year ago?

If not, why not?

How much, in the course of a normal day, do you stop and remember Jesus?

Have you ever betrayed Jesus?

• Have you ever denied knowing Him?

• What is the power of rumor and innuendo?

What is the biggest struggle you have faced, or are facing, in your life? Do you believe Jesus has been walking with you through it all?

etc....

I can see how if I would have been asked these questions when I was only a "Christian by title" or people who are "Chruch Seat Warmers"-would definately be shaken.

mac,

That was an excellent article and very timely!

I just ran across this article on the jpost:

Pollution looms at key water sources

According to this article, Israel's fresh water supply is dangerously low. This article doesn't even mention the fact that Israel gets a large percentage of its fresh water from the Golan Heights. If they gave this to Syria, there is no way they would have enough fresh water. Israel is building three more desalination plants, but the first of these is not scheduled to come on line until the end of 2009.

Jim,
don't respond to any of it. If we ignore them perhaps they'll go away.

while I don't think the anony poster at Joel's was him I also don't think that the final comment about those words being burned up at the Bema seat were necessarily meant as hateful. A proper admonishment of would include not only admonishing the act but also would note the price to be paid-note that there were 2 prices to be paid, one immediate and one future. While the immediate one, reclosing the posting section at Joel's, would not necessarily cause us grief it would cause great grief to the host since he does likely view his blog as part of his mission field. The second more concerns us as believers and is future. All our words and works will be tested by fire at the Bema seat of Christ. not a hateful statement but a fact. What remains is all we will have to present to Christ for eternity in an act of worship (recently read somewhere that when we cast our crowns at Christ's feet it will be a daily thing for all eternity not a one time thing)-perhaps those crowns we cast are made up of what's left over from the Bema seat judgement. I for one have been thinking about this a lot lately-will I have a crown to cast at His feet. What of my life thus far is going to survive that judgement fire? It really gives me pause to think and take stock of my life. The ultimate answer is that I don't exactly know at this point. Oh I know that there is a great deal that won't survive since I haven't always lived for Him and have strayed more than once but that would be the point I think when one reflects to strive to live better. That is why I found the passion link to be so compelling also.

done with the rambling thoughts for today.

btw-if you didn't see it. Judy (Stripes) left a fabulous poem at the last posting at Joel's near the end. It is wonderful!

I'm sure there will be backlash of some sort, but for now, they are printing brochures, banners, even buttons, etc.

That's my little happy news for the day!

Just reading the comments here and noticed JIB thought I had commented on something at Joel's. Nope! Not me!

JIB I am in agreement with you on Joel's and I don't give up easily either. I do feel that all Glen and the anonymous ones are trying to do is discourage and destroy the real purpose of the discussing End Time scriptures and beliefs. You noticed that they didn't come around until the Old Crew came back on in full force, didn't you. I know you did and they know that if the truth is going to be told it will be at Joel's.

I still think that only making the cave unpublished to the Blogger index or search engines will keep us from having to deal with the likes of TroubleMakers Anonymous.

I did pick up on something at Joel's yesterday afternoon that rang a bell so to speak. We didn't get back from my doctor's appointment until 7 p.m. CDT and I just wanted to see if there were any sane comments taking place not connected with Glen and Co. I read the comment and immediately my Spirit man said "they been reading at the Cave". I will find it and repost it here. The rest of you check it out too. If it had been one of you guys, I wouldn't have been alerted. This was not one of us.

Now, if that person is reading here at the site, I have one to say to them. "You AIN'T gonna get by with your junk here". I will kick your most precious seat all the way to kingdom come." You been forwarned!

I would love to see these people be saved, filled with the Holy Spirit and bringing in the unsaved but until they quit playing mind games and DnD games, it isn't going to happen especially when we are feeding their frenzy.

Shock Jocks are my specialty from way back and I am very serious! I will joke and kid with any of you but when I am serious I am not a funny adversary for anyone.

Truthfully, I don't really have a great desire to pursue the discussion of the trivia anymore. Time is too short and I keep hearing the footsteps of the Master getting closer and closer. What are we going to offer up as labor for enlarging His kingdom. I think God has a great desire for a huge wedding feast of the Bridegroom and fussing with nincomepoops is not getting it done.

I have to go get me some oil for my lamps.

See you later,
Grany

JIB, I only got to your comment at 6:08 P.M Mar 20. I knew I had to comment so you wouldn't think I was being high hat or anything. Then after I took my time responding and sending, I read your previous post of calling me. LOL ! NOW that is not a threat, I just was tired from my days trials on Thursday.

People we really got a lot of rain in our area and we saw huge amounts of very fertile land completely under water yesteday. This land produces vegetables for Green Giant and Libby canneries in the spring and early summer and then grains (soybean, rye and wheat in the fall and early winter) before January. In fact, this land produces almost 12 months every year. All under water and the Arkansas River is full and it is a controlled flood system so, the other rivers are being filled to capacity too. I don't have the slightest clue what all of this is going to mean for our productivity later but for right now, the crops are gone.

I suggest you get those vegetables in supply for later. Not meaning to be fear mongering but just as a matter of common sense.

Around here February is a very good planting time and most everyone who have gardens are already picking early peas, lettuce and such.

So, now I am done with my farm report for the week.

Love you, and I like the cave too but what about Petra? or Moab?

Grany

jim.carroll said...

Grany, Shalom!

I know yesterday I had an anonymous (small "a") at Joel's mention something I had said here. (I had said I wouldn't respond to G, and then went ahead and responded -- anonymous was reminding me of that.)

I'll have to go back and restock my canned tomato collection. I can't grow anything -- not only am I in an apartment but I've got cats.

As for renaming the cave -- I kinda like what it is, but if necessary I'd prefer Petra over Moab -- nothing good comes from Moab.

We should always post things that edify. If correction is needed it should be done in light of scripture, but those that are not born again (we cannot judge) will not take correction anyway. There are also those that are saved but have a different view and it is pointless to continue contact that does not edify or clairify. To make a point just because I am right is prideful. The annon that wrote that correction is mostly right, what does not further the Kingdom in some way will be "burned up".

Just my 2 cents

Alesia, Thank you.

The main point of our Good Friday service was how God looks at his flock through rose colored glasses thanks to Jesus sacrifice. We can approach him with confidence and rejoice in the fact that even though we are sinful and imperfect-God sees us as Holy through the blood of Jesus Christ.

Satan, the accuser-loves to put doubts in our minds. Remind us of all our flaws. Take the joy of what Christ has done for us away.

Hebrews 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

Hebrews 10:19-22

Therefore,brethren, having boldness
to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus,by new and living way which He consecreated for us, thorough the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

(The three ways we can overcome Satan)

Revelation 12:10,11

Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven,"Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame them by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

Evening all,
Well, we arrived and had a good night with my folks (so far)....the boys are sleeping together in a bed for the first time and that's not going entirely well, but there's been no blood yet, so I'll call it a success.
The travels were safe overall, although sleepy since hubby had to listen to kids' movies for half the trip (he's used to having control of the radio when driving for work and he keeps it loud!)
Anyway, I wanted to post a quick prayer request about visiting my Grandpa tomorrow. We had planned to leave after breakfast, spend an hour or so with him, have lunch and then come back here (2 hours each way.) However, they're forecasting 3-6 inches of snow overnight in his area and 1-3 here. The road in between is notoriously bad during winter with many traffic accidents happening on one particular stretch (you may have heard of some of the big pileups on I-80 in central/western PA.) Of course we wouldn't put our family at risk, so the trip is looking like a no-go. I had been praying for confirmation that I should speak to Grandpa about Jesus' love for him and the strangest thing happened just before we left our house this morning....I was rummaging through my purse and found a witnessing tract in it. I had never seen it before and have no idea how it got there. It was in a small pocket that isn't easily accessible, not a place where I might stuff something without knowing it. I immediately knew it was my sign to go ahead and talk with Grandpa. But this weather thing is putting an obstacle in the way, so I'm asking for God's plan to be carried out nonetheless. Either the snow goes around us, melts by morning or I write a letter instead. I'll let you know how things go. Please also pray for my family in general. I can see my parents getting sucked into so much untruth or half-truth as they take what they hear/read/see in the media without questioning it...alot of emotional responses to things. My dad has a very defensive personality so the last time we talked about things going on in the world, he put up his walls and somewhat attacked my views as being immoral (war) and without the benefit of experience (I'm younger and haven't been around long enough to know anything about anything) so I stick to topics like the weather (that's still dangerous as it leads to global warming.) I used to love visits home, but more and more they're becoming a sad time for me.
Anyway, sorry to ramble.
The internet connection wasn't too slow so I decided to visit. I think I'm addicted, though, truth be told!

Easter Blessings...
Jen

PS. I vote for Petra if we switch. It has so many shades of meaning and really is a place of refuge.

Lisa, what a wonderful thought, that God looks at us through rose colored glasses.

I have been finding myself breaking out spontaneously, crying out "Holy, Holy, Holy,
Worthy is the Lamb that was slain" more and more lately. I feel God's Spirit working on me more than I can ever recall, bringing me to repentence and adoration.

I also am feeling a greater burden for my family, friends and acquaintances who don't know Him. Funny, even though someone's time could come at any moment and understanding the importance of their salvation before they die, believing that these are end times makes it all so much more urgent.

Goodnight, my friends.

Oh, and while I was driving to the Good Friday service-My kids were trying to get me to tell them why I was laughing.

I was thinking about how Jesus diciples must have talked amongst themselves.

I'm certain they were just like us.

We're all human with different thoughts, views,& dispositions.

We all have a common bond in the love of Christ. We are all trying so hard to study, mature, and follow in the attributes of our Savior.

We are all fighting the seen and unseen powers of darkness.

We are all called to love each other as Christ loved us. (That's some awesome kind of love- can we even begin to grasp it?)

We are all so human-yet that's what is endearing to God. His love for us is so great.

He knows each and everyone of us and I bet he's very pleased that we have each other here to learn from and grow with on our journey and walk with Christ as he transforms our hearts and minds.

We have so much to look forward to and our time here is short.

Let us continue to serve one another in humility.

Each and every one of us is a unique gift and great blessing to one another.

Let us all rejoice in the gift Christ gave us on the Cross. We'll only have eternity to get to know each other even better.

Lisa, Shalom! We had an interesting Good Friday service tonight, talking about sacrifice -- very timely, given that "Passion of the Christian" article earlier today. The high point (if you can call it that) was when we brought out these 5-ft-tall plywood crosses, and invited people to come to a cross and "pay it reverence." I had volunteered to hold up one of the crosses, and I thought it was great how many people choose to kneel and embrace the cross.

When G_D comes back to the table and finds their hands sticky with forbidden fruit juice Adam and Eve start blaming each other, but then settle on blaming it on their brother Michael's snake.

I stopped by Joel's blog a few minute's ago and posted something there for the first time in weeks. Yeah, I can really sense the love over there. NOT! It is too bad that a few bad apples can spoil something that was so good. On the plus side, if it hadn't been for Joel's blog, we misfits in the cave would not have found one another. :-)

I have been really turned off Joel's for quite sometime now and I have not been reading it or posting on it. I definitely needed a break from it. However, one of Nate's comments here reminded me that a lot of people maybe reading the blog including people far from God. It made me think that I should do my best to post something positive and God honoring despite the few annoy mouse posters who are determined to tear things down.

God Bless,

momentous praise today. Jen, thank you for mentioning the Resurrection eggs-without you mentioning them i likely would not have bought them.

I went over them with my son Trevor this morning. After we looked at and talked about all the eggs he wanted to go back to #7 which is the Cross made out of nails. There was a picture in the book that I decided to use and personalize with his name on onsides of the canyon and God on the other. the space in between was labelled Trevor's naughty things. I asked Trevor how he could get to God. He drew all sorts of stuff. We talked about how none of that could get him to God because it didn't cover up the naughty stuff. He then went and made his bed and told me he had done something good. We talked about how no one can do anything good to get to God. By this time he was quite upset that he couldn't get to God. i laid the little Cross of nails between the 2 names, over the naughty stuff and we talked about how Christ's death on the cross made a bridge to get to God and covers the naughty stuff. We then went somewhere quiet and I helped him pray for salvation and cleansing. Trevor can now tell you that he prayed and when asked if God forgave him of his sin and gave him a clean new heart he'll tell you yes.

I am overwhelmed and when I try to tell people about it even when typing I start crying.

I think Jib posted the article in which this Misistry was banned in Canada so they have now moved to the US. They think we only have 5-10 years until Apologetic Christianity is banned here as well. If you don't preach nicy nice feel good messages then you can't make other faiths feel bad about their beliefs.

Reading those JW facts really brought back some memories.I hadn't really thought about the entirety of how I was deceived but it has really brought it to light.

First of all, jib, what wonderful news! I'm so happy for your family and esp. for Trevor. Make sure to write a note to him with the date on it so he can read it later on.
We had a really good day here, although the trip to Grandpa's didn't happen...too much snow and his long lane wasn't going to get plowed out, so we couldn't get to the house even if we made the trip. I intend to pray about it and either write him a letter or try for a visit in April.
We got 5 inches of snow here and I didn't bring the kids' snow gear, so we double layered them and tied plastic bags over their sneakers. They had a great time sledding, etc. and went to bed quickly, so the adults are happy about that :-)
Not much to mention, but wanted to stop by.
Sending happiest Easter wishes to everyone,
Blessings,
Jen

Jim,

That must really have been something to see since you actually were holding up a cross!
Very Powerful!

The entertainment part of our Good Friday service was well should I say Avant Garde. We had one Giagantic Cross on a rock looking pedestal in the middle of the Chuch with people sitting around facing it.

Then the pastor did his sermon by the Cross which I really liked.

Then they had a Giagantic white canvass on the "regular" stage.About 5 people in all black painted a picture of Jesus hanging on the cross while the worship songs went on. Even had an opera singer. Then here comes the skit of Jesus in people dressed all in black again- the betrayl, Last Supper,Sentence, and Death.

Ok-If I see a skit I want "period" clothing. (I know they have it-they did the Nativity scene @ Christmas.)Instead of getting emotional-all I could think about is that the lead 7' tall skinny man dressed head to toe in black with "short" black hair-did not look like Jesus to me.

Then for the finale he stood in front of this giagantic cross-died standing up-then a giagantic black swag of fabric dropped from the ceiling onto the cross. (That fabric part was kind of neat)

So Jim, I think your "experience" was probably more powerful than my dog and pony show.

It may have touched some people. I shouldn't be so harsh. I did really appreciate the Pastor's sermon-that definately impressed upon me.

Oh no, that makes me think-What do they have in store for us tomorrow?

For Grace chapel who "asked those questions" go to the following link. There listed are all the short clips for the Holy Week with the Study guide and scriptures below.

Happy Resurrection Day!

Lisa, Shalom! The crosses we have (3 of them) are pieces of 1/4-inch plywood painted brown and nailed together, each piece being about 10-inches wide. So I wasn't so much holding up the cross as hiding behind it! Still, I did get a glimpse of all the people coming up (it was optional, but I think pretty much everyone did it), and yes, it was powerful.

As far as the people in your service dressed in black, I could see where that COULD work... Have you ever heard of "Kabuki" (traditional Japanese theater) or "Bunraku" (Japanese puppet theater)? There you have the puppeteers and the stagehands (who would be rearranging the stage between scenes without closing the curtain) dressed in black, and who are considered invisible. You learn to ignore the people on the stage dressed in black and focus on the action. When I first started reading your description my first thought was, "Well! THAT would be interesting!", but it sounds like it was as exciting as a wet firecracker.

Last night was the first time I've seen our church's immersion baptimal used -- not quite immersion; the people kneel in the water while the priest dunks their head underwater three times ("...in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit..." with the crowd shouting "AMEN" after each dunking). Then this morning, I was charged with carrying the bowl of water while the priest walked through the congregation spraying us with this water after we renewed our baptismal vows. The priest uses a small branch of hyssop (Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Psalm 51:7) which is dipped in the water and then shaken over the people. The priest was rather vigorous with the wrist action as he dipped the hyssop in the water, and by the time we were finished I was almost as wet as the people who had been baptized last night!

(Hyssop has a rather nice, slightly minty scent, and I'd like to find some to use for scent bags to put around my apartment, if it's not harmful to cats.)

I'm going to be taking my time in posting on Joel's too. I did just that one posting in Russian, and immediately anonymous came back at me wanting to know why I haven't replied to his/her "do you know what the Bible says about divorce, and if so how can you call yourself a Christian" question.

I was also upset by that posting by GT. Normally, I don't have a problem with Jack Kelly. I usually find his writings and explanations very good. But to hear him make that same tired claim about the Western Church's ties to Ishtar worship just boiled my beans. He also fails to mention that one reason for the change in the calendar was that an early Church father warned against Christians sharing the Passover with Jews. Now it's believed he just didn't think Christians should be attending Passover services (since we have our ultimate Passover sacrifice in Christ Jesus), but at the time of the calendar debate it was thought to mean that the Easter celebration should not be linked with Passover.

Ah, well. Maybe I just need to sit down and let this sugar rush pass over me. I'd like to watch "The Passion", but I've got my two youngest daughters here, and the just-turned-13-this-last-week is VERY sensitive to images on TV, so it's going to be a few years before I get to share that film with her. Instead, I've got two Israeli films from the library. One is is a newer film (2005)called "Ushpuzin" ("Guests"), about an Orthodox Jewish couple celebrating the Feast of Tents and praying for the miracle of a baby, and instead get two guys just out of prison who are looking for the money they hid after the robbery that got them sent to prison. It's billed as a comedy/drama. The second film is from 1964 called "Sallah", and stars Topal (the guy who starred in the movie "Fiddler On the Roof"). Sallah and his family arrive in Israel in 1949 from the Middle East, go to a settlement camp, and are basically forgotten by the Israeli bureaucracy. Since they've been forgotten, they obviously don't exist, and so they can't get a permanent home. (Now you know where all the workers at the DMV get their training!) Should be funny!

Another reason why I thought today was such a great day was a friend of mine told me about a new film that was just made by Ben Stein called "Expelled."

In case you don't know who Ben Stein is (I had to be reminded today), he is probably most famous for playing the part of a teacher in the film "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." He is the teacher that talks in a monotone and says, "Bueller...., Bueller." He has done a lot of other more noteworthy things like being a speech writer for both Nixon and Ford.

This film, which is due out in theaters on April 18th, is about different scientists, professors, etc. who have been severely persecuted for daring to say they believe in Creation or Intelligent Design. Some of these people have lost their grants, jobs, status, etc. for daring to question Darwinism. This film helps expose the academic and scientific communitie's extreme bias and persecution of people who dare to say that they believe in a God who designed the universe. We are supposed to live in a society that believes in free speech, unless of course you dare to speak against evolution or speak in favor of Judea/Christian values.

Ben is Jewish (not a Christian), but in some ways, this may lend more credibility to the film. You know how quickly the film would get shot down if a Christian made it. After all, we are all so biased and don't know anything. :-)

Here is a link to a youtube clip where Ben is talking to Bill O'Reilly about the film:

Bill O'Reilly and Ben Stein on Intelligent Design

Here is a link to a tailer for the movie:

Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed (Super Trailer)

When I went to the www.expelledthemovie.com website, I clicked on the blog and this really caught my attention:

Dawkins concedes that life might indeed have a designer but that designer almost assuredly was a more highly evolved being from another planet, not “God.”

Isn't this hilarious?!!! Dawkins has hung himself with his own rope! He is acknowledging the possibility of Intelligent Design, but only by aliens, not God! Is that not admitting that the theory of evolution is full of holes? The blog has some other really interesting things to say as well.

Dawkins comments make me again wonder if in the year 2012 (or some other year after the church is raptured), an "alien" presence will make itself known and declare that "it" is responsible for "creating" us? It sounds like Dawkins would buy that explanation and we know that there are thousands of people who belong to New Age cults that would be all over that as well. Things that make you go hmmmm.

Anyways, I think this film will only be playing in limited theaters (at least initially), but the producers of the film have apparently been in contact with the same firm that marketed "The Passion of the Christ." They are hoping to use the same marketing strategy.

There is probably little chance that this film will make it up to Canadian theaters for me to watch. Canada, after all, is very liberal, which means that everybody has a voice except people expressing their Judea/Christian values.

So...my wife and I are actually talking about heading to the U.S. just to watch this film when it opens on April 18th. I would love to see this film get some great buzz like "The Passion." Obviously, I am not expecting that kind of success, but it is so nice to see films like this being made now.

So...please pass the word along. I will probably post something on Joel's site as well.

God Bless,
Harold

Alf Cengia said...

Harold, I can't wait to see "Expelled". I knew about Dawkins’ stance on life possibly having originated from outer space. This is a direct result of his inability to defend his theories as to how life came about on earth originally...but how dumb! It's amazing to me how many people actually give a similar explanation to Dawkins without realising the lack of consistency in this theory.

Harold,

I'll definately try to see that movie. Thanks for the link.

Very timely,

My husband (who has recently accepted Christ- do what degree is still out for verdict) asked me what I was reading tonight. This brought up my latest study on "Creation Evalgelism". I was explaining to him in the literal 6 day creation & that God did not use evolution- and boy - this became a very touchy subject.

I explained how not believing in the literal 6 day creation & the theory of evolution has caused a major breakdown in the moral foundation and Religious views of our society.

The bottom line is "yeah, I know what the Bible says in Genesis 1 but God could have had planets floating around before he started with the 6 days." (I tried to point out that the solar system and heavens were included in that but he just turned off.) Wouldn't even let me read it from the Bible.

He pointed to the academics with the mutiple degrees and how science has proven it.

Of course I came back with- they have not proven it and why would you believe these men over the word of God?

Then he tells me I'm acting like I'm going back into Jehovah's Witnesses & throws in this could be damaging to our marriage.

So there you have it. The serpent at work.

(I thought I had more time to study this before I was going to include it in my witnessing.)

I have only finished the one book but I have a huge stockpile so I'm going to present my find on the Biblically scientific "Earth's Age" this week. He wants my proof that their measurements for the age of the earth are incorrect.

Ugggg. He usually does not really listen to anything I tell him proof or not. But if someone else tells him the same thing-then suddenly he believes it.

Ok, I need your prayers. This is going to take the Holy Spirit for me to have any impact on witnessing to my husband.

I had just read the last chapter of this Creation book where the author "Tom Ham" states that evolution is really a religion and how sensitive and upset people get when you challenge their views on it.

No sooner than I read it that my Husband chimes right in- on que no less.

Ok, I have to admit. I'm feeling sorry for myself right now. Saying "Why me?"

But don't worry, I'll soon get over it.

Pray for him and for your marriage, that He will continue to work thru it.

Lisa,

A word of warning re Creationism and what the Bible "appears" to say about the Creation of the world in 6 days.

There is not enough in the Bible to categorically say that there was nothing in existence before God "created the world in 6 days".

I do not think that God created fossils and other, demonstrably very old things, just to cause us confusion. That's not God's style.

You have to remember that:
1)God has been around since eternity past

2)He created angels and other spirit beings long before He created mankind.

3)Lucifer was the ruler ("god") of this planet before Adam and Eve were created, until God threw him out of heaven, and down to earth, taking away his power and authority (Isaiah 14:12-18, Revelation 12:7-8), which is why, when Adam committed high treason and sold his birthright and position (see Genesis 1:28) to the devil, Jesus could, quite rightly, say when He was walking the earth, that Satan was still the "god" of this world - the "prince of the air".

As a result of Jesus' death and resurrection, He took back this authority from Satan (see Matthew 28:18), and has given it to the Church, so the Church now has the same authority and responsibility towards this planet as Adam had before he sinned.

However, you might find this of interest.

The Hebrew text in Genesis 1:1-2 is very interesting. First, the word "created" (heb = 'bara') is only used in the OT to describe a divine, FULLY finished work of creation by God Himself. The words usually translated as 'without form or void" are represented by "tohû vabohû" in Hebrew. This phrase occurs throughout the OT whenever (and only when) there has been a catastrophic or total judgment from God. It never refers to a natural occurrence.

Thus, I believe that Scripture points too the fact that the earth was somehow destroyed BEFORE we get to Genesis 1:2 (by water? - since the reference in Genesis 1 states the Holy Spirit hovered (brooded) over the waters) BEFORE God started to re-create the earth as we know it.

In 2 Peter 3:5-7 Peter refers to a complete destruction of the earth by water, which destroyed all life - notice that whenever Noah's flood is referred to elsewhere in Scripture, Noah is always mentioned - except in this occurrence. I believe it refers to a different flood. In Noah's Flood, God did not have to recreate the earth, or repopulate with newly create life - the survivors (both man and animals) who came out of the Ark were able to "go forth and replenish the earth" themselves (Genesis 8:17). In any case the water that covered the earth during Noah's Flood drained away leaving the earth immediately ready to support life (animal and plant) again - something that had not occurred before in Genesis 1:2.

In addition, BEFORE Lucifer's fall, it clearly states in Scripture, Isaiah 14:12-18, that he ruled the earth AND caused great destruction upon it, and there were kings and nations under his authority. These were spirit beings, but NOT human, since they existed before Adam and Eve - who were the first spirit beings fully made in God's likeness and image.

So, the implications are, from Scripture, that:

1) God created this planet sometime in the far distant past, as a beautiful, complete, inhabited planet - Genesis 1:1

2) At some point in the past (a lot more than 6000 years ago) Lucifer, when he was still an arch-angel, was Ruler of this world over a race of spirit beings (NOT mankind, NOT angels)

3) When God threw Lucifer out of Heaven and down to the earth, he, Lucifer, "fell like lightening" and the result was the destruction of the earth - at least the surface, resulting in the situation described in Genesis 1:2, where we find the world in chaos and covered in water. Nothing survived this cataclysmic event - the earth was completely uninhabitable and in darkness.

4) Lucifer, now God's arch enemy, Satan, was thereafter confined to the earth, along with the 1/3 of the angels that were thrown out of Heaven with him. Earth became his prison house. It is not impossible to surmise from Scripture that the spirit beings that lived on the Earth under Lucifer's rule before his fall are still here - at least their spirits are (spirit beings do not die) - it is therefore not unreasonable to surmise that these are what manifest as demons - since Jesus Himself said that they are looking for physical bodies to inhabit. Peter (2 Peter 2:4) and Jude (Jude 6) say in their epistles that the fallen angels (except for Satan) are imprisoned in chains in darkness, so they cannot, contrary to popular opinion, be manifesting as demons.

Then, approximately 6ooo years ago, God placed Adam and Eve here, with instructions to take dominion over the re-created earth and everything in, on and above it, and to "go forth and multiply" (Genesis 1:28) - the actual Hebrew says "Be fruitful and multiply; replenish the earth and subdue it" - implying that the Earth had previously been filled with life. He even warned them that the enemy was waiting and ready to try and take back what he had lost.

God's plan was (and still is) that Mankind, in its perfect state, should take control of the earth, and turn the entire planet into a giant Garden of Eden, and in doing so, stop Satan from causing any more trouble - since they had the authority and power to do so.

Unfortunately, due to Adam's high treason, he allowed Satan to take back control, and sin, death and sickness entered the earth. By the time the biblical narrative gets to the story of Noah's Flood, there is only one man left alive who God regards as righteous, and in order for His prophecy that the "seed of woman" would one day defeat Satan (Genesis 3:14) to be fulfilled, He had to do something drastic to ensure Noah's survival, as well as that of his bloodline, so that the Messiah could be born. Thus we have another world-wide destruction. However, this time God ensured that there were surviving animals and birds, along with 8 humans to start over with, so in this instance, God did not have to create anything over again.

Note: the fossil/geological record, if at all valid, should point to this event. One (not the only) such event could be the mass extinction and major destruction that occurred an estimated 251.4 million years ago, known as the Permian–Triassic extinction event.

Here's another thought. In the narrative in Genesis 3, God does NOT curse Eve, just Adam. Adam is the one that is thrown out of the Garden. Eve,chooses to follow him, thus fulfilling God's words in Genesis 3:16 (which have nothing to do with childbirth - her desire to be with her husband was so strong that she followed him out of the Garden). That is why God could and would bring salvation to mankind through the "seed of the woman".

Just a thought - the more I study scripture the more I convinced there is FAR more in the Word than we have yet begun to understand.

It looks like Joel's blog has been taken off again.

Thank The Lord we have the cave!

YAY just thought I'd tell you my daughter got the job I asked you all to pray about!!

Thank you all and thank You, Father, in Jesus' name, Amen!!

Alesia said...

Does anyone know what happened, this time?

It's probably for the best, with potential new people coming to the blog, because of the book coming out - not exactly what Joel would want new people reading.

TexanForChrist said...

Glad the cave is here as it appears Joel has shutdown comments again. Don't think I could survive an outage of the cave dwellers..

Has anyone seen CrossActionNews it claims itself a drudge reports for Christians..

Yes, it really is a shame that Joel's comment section got shut down again.

All it takes is a few bad apples to spoil things!

It sure would be nice to get the info to Chris, for one, about this site...not sure how to do that though. I clicked on his blue name, but it didn't lead anywhere.

Donna, I'm so glad about your daughter's job. Praise the Lord!

It's sad about Joel's but who can see they didn't see it coming?

A and G were just like the same duo that took it down in December.

Mr. Hyde, thanks again for a safe place to fellowship and share scripture/teaching.

Mac, thanks for putting up with Mr. Hyde.

Mike, that is a good site, thanks for the link.

HOnestly, I think Joel knew that this latest post would really rile up the trouble makers. I think it's kind of funny (ha ha) on his part, to close the comment section, like he's saying, "GOTCHA!"

I'm sure he'll open it in the near future, we need to keep our eyes open. I just wish there was some way to ban the trouble makers' IP address.

Maybe this is the way the Israeli's will have to go to get on top of the hit and run tactics the Pals are using all along the dividing line between the rest of Israel and Judea and Samaria (aka West Bank).

When we were there in '75-76, any trip we made from the kibbutz into the border areas was accompanied by armed guards - even for site seeing! This was normal, and everyone, including the Pals, accepted it.

At one point we were on the road running along the Israel-Syria border, overlooking Quneitra, and an Israeli border patrol rushed up to us as we all standing on the berm overlooking the border fence and told us to get down as the Syrians had a habit of firing at people at random! Nothing's changed - and Israel needs to start taking care of itself.

Really, what was promised? I really want to know, what did we help guarantee to Israel, to get them to agree to this? Plus in case no one noticed, Israel will purchase $25 million a day for a total of $10 billion, to "help" our economy.

I think they've been promised something, and I'd like to know what.

boatman909 said...

I wonder if there's some relationship between these two articles...

Exclusive: At least 27 killed, 100 injured, in first Iraqi forces' showdown with Hizballah in Iraq

Saudi king says he'll convene interfaith conference with Jews

It seems to me that the Saudis are becoming very worried about the Iran - Syria - Hezbollah relationships.

They have decided not to send anyone of significance to the Arab Summit in Syria, as have many other Arab nations. See Saudis lead boycott of Syrian summit.

However, I cannot see that extending an olive branch to Christians and Jews at this time is going to do anything - unless it is a precursor to some form of "false peace" in the ME, to allow the Arabs to get their acts together and focus on a single matter - what to do about the Jews.

Maybe the Saudis are hoping the West and Israel will do something about Iran - Syria - Hezbollah for them, so avoiding any kind of actual, visible, conflict (=sectarian war) within the Arab world. To quote an unnamed Arab diplomat, "Syria is facing increased isolation in the Arab world because of its alliance with Iran and its meddling in Lebanon's internal affairs."

It maybe just a smoke screen - who knows - it's so totally against everything the Saudis stand for and have acted on before.

FYI, i had nothing to do with Joel's site getting shut down. I didn't contact them.

Hi Lori, don't think the rapture happened yet, but I was wondering the same thing. Maybe everyone is reading Joel's new book. I have it but haven't found the time yet.

Lori, Shalom! I'm still here. I'm just reviewing the articles John linked to. I spent some time trying to see if I could find a cache on Google of the comment section to see if there was something specific that caused the webmaster to shut things down, but no luck. I get the feeling that the comment section has caching turned off now, after the events of January last.

As far as the Bank of Israel buying dollars, I don't think they've been promised anything specific. I think someone just pointed out to them that if the Chinese banks and Islamic banks buy all the dollars, etc., then we'll be answering to the Chinese and Islamic countries. Buying $10 billion gives Israel some bargaining power -- not as much as the Saudis, but still some.

HI Lori and everyone...just thought I'd check in...let you know I'm still around.
good thing we have this site to come to!

Hi, Mike. I started Joel's book and put it down before I got too much into it. I wanted to wait until I had the time to devote to reading it. I imagine I'll have the time tomorrow while I'm waiting for my car to be fixed. I imagine when the comment section comes back they'll disable all anonymous postings. It won't stop all crass postings, but it may cut down on them. It also means that those people who are causing trouble can be disciplined by their respective OpenID sites. I'm trying to think what specifically it was that might have gotten them to shut down the comments. I'm worried that G will use this as proof that "Joel is trying to remove proof of his wrongdoings" -- heck, I KNOW that's what G will do.

BTW, Donna, Congrats on your daughter's job!

How grateful I am for this hiding place right now! Thank you Mr. Hyde, from the bottom of my heart!

Lori, I wondered why everything is so quiet, too, and thought maybe everyone was meeting at still another cave and that I had missed the message. Glad some of us are here.

I am trying hard to understand the financial picture from an endtimes perspective. When I read financial stuff and economics my eyes glaze over and my ears start to buzz. But, I'm trying. My husband is very concerned about the big picture, financially, but without the perspective of this being the end times, though he does believe that will come in future generations.

Thanks for all the recent articles, everyone.

Boatman, Shalom! Here's a corrected blue link to your posting about an interfaith conference:

Saudi King Abdullah wants interfaith conference

I don't think there's a link between this and the "Iraqi forces' showdown with Hizballah in Iraq". There's no love lost between the House of Saud and the Iranian leadership, much less the people running Hizballah, and if Iraq were to manage to destroy Hizballah, the House of Saud would be right behind the Jordanian royal family in praising Iraq's bold leadership in ridding the Mideast of this scourge.

Shalom, all! Anne, I'm with you. I honestly don't know what to think or feel about events now. I have this very strong feeling that there is something big going to happen, but I honestly can't tell from which direction the danger will come from. I still think there will be some big events in Israel between May 10 (Israeli Independence Day, celebrated on May 8 due to Shabbat) and June 2 (Unification of Jerusalem Day). (May 10 marks the beginning of the 60th year of Israel; June 2 marks the end of the 40th year of the Unification of Jerusalem.) But what those events might actually be I can't figure out.

I have enough money saved up from my inheritance that I can buy a new car. I'm getting very bad mileage from my existing car (a 1998 Buick Century, inherited from my Dad) and it's reaching an age where it's going to start needing regular expensive maintenance. Do I buy a newer car now, or do I wait until I actually have a job? When I was in high school and college in the early 70's, I remember stagflation and how financial advisers were telling people to buy real goods instead of saving your money, because the interest rates were less than the inflation rate. If you saved your money you would actually be loosing money due to inflation.

Time to send G_D some knee-mail...

Hey Everybody! I just finished listening to "Dead Heat" and I couldn't tear my self away from it. A precious co-blogger here and at Joel's so kindly sent it to, bless him Lord, and even hubby stuck really, really close to listen to it too. Jim's eyes got as big as his cereal bowl and he is still asking questions about it. Oh, the questions would cause you all to shout Hallelujah! I mean big time questions that every christians wants to hear and answer.

MIKE, Thanks a hundred million thanks for sending that to me. Wow! It just might be that which will bring Jim into the kingdom also.

I also appreciate your kindness in helping to save my eyes too.

TO ALL OF THE OTHERS, this is a fantastic media to have as backup and as a learning while you drive source.

Thanks again Mike. And Shalom

OH, I'm so glad you all posted. I wondered if I said something wrong and I was being shunned? lol I never suspected the rapture, cause I know when that trumpet sounds, I'm outta here!

Joel's book is great and I'm so glad that it has sparked some good conversation with you Grany. God's word will never return void.
We'll be praying extry hard. BTY, when my daughter saw this woman, Pastor Joanne Bunce, on television yesterday morning with me, she said, "I have a feeling that's what Wilma looks like."

Mr. Carroll, I finally was able to delete the "bullhocky" account. I'm quite literal so when it said to go to google accounts and Edit next to My services, well, it's not called my services anymore, it's called my products. I must have spent an hour trying to figure it out. Also, I still had all the old comments in email format and I didn't see anything obvious, unless something came thru and they blocked it. Perhaps they have a filter for profanity that alerted them.

Anyone have a Harbor Freight near them? It's mostly a tool store, but I went with my hubby last night and found a cast-iron Dutch oven (has legs and lid with lip) for $15! It's 10" and normally sell for $45. We like to camp and you can bake in these things as well as cook. Cool beans! uh, or hot beans...

I'm trying to multi-task today... so I'm hopping around all over the place. But I felt led to do a quick book promotion. The book is by David Reagan of Lamb & Lion Ministries. It's called “Trusting God – Learning to Walk by Faith.” It is a biographical account of Reagan’s calling to ministry and the many Faith miracles that happened along the way. I first read it some 18 months ago and felt led to re-read it again.

I highly, strongly, verily recommend it. Get the drift?

Mac,
We get it - you REALLY want us to get the book! OK, OK, I will, I promise.

First, I need to finish The Earthquake Resurrection. Now that I'm done with Joel's - Dead Heat, I'm back to E.R., which is a very tough book to read - only on page 90 after 1.5 weeks!
Good stuff!
