On another note, I want to thank those of you who have been praying for my daughters situation. God has a way of changing things I do have to admit. Things turned out in such a way that she moved out with out me having to do anything. I hate being in that kind of situation. She goes from one extreme situation to another and although she is not in an ideal situation or living under Gods protection, compared to where she was before, this is much better. I do have to admit though that I am not condoning that what she is doing is alright, just that its much better than before. -Jec

Jec, I'm beginning to be convinced that the "birther" movement might have been "planted" to keep us distracted from the new laws that are changing our country.

Also, if you would all keep our church youth group in your prayers. Our church box truck was stolen Fri evening and it was loaded with our audio/visual equipment as well as instruments. Without the truck, there was about $40k worth of equipment in the truck.

We'd like to recover it if possible, so we're hoping it'll show up on the net. There were some customized items in the truck that my DH and I made, so if we see them, we will know they belong to the church.

Just read the Gov owns your computer link and watched the video.

I'm speechless.

I can't believe it.

I must check this out further, but I have often thought about how people so easily click on the "accept terms" button and who knows what someone might be saying in the terms. Remember the Facebook problem? Something about Facebook owning everything on your Facebook page forever, including photos, prose, poetry, even after you close the account?

Now the government. I don't know, maybe this is the case on all or many government sites and this is the first we heard of it?

I'm speechless.

Jenny here,

Hello Everyone,

Campsmore and Anne,

I agree the gov't computer thing is very aggressive and scary but I believe the gov't has had access to our computers through a back door built into every computer since the 1990's however this is very in your face, blantent I can do what I want because America is sooooooo asleep.

Have you all looked at excerpts of the healthcare bill???? They can also be found on "Prophecy Today". It is maddening. You can pretty much kiss America land of the free good-bye. This administration is systematically cutting away all of our rights, choices and ways to make a living. I think at first the masses didn't get it, but they will if this goes into effect. It will hurt employers, the sick, the elderly, the health care workers (not just the doctors but everyone in the industry). It will be enormous. I'm still in shock over this one.

It makes me feel exactly like I felt when we had to evacuate for the hurricane Brett in '99. I was due with our second child any minute and we lived on North Padre Island and there was only one way off. There was a hurricane 5 coming straight for us. We followed everything on our list to do and then I just kind of wandered around in circles. There was an eery calm on the Island-no rain yet, no wind yet only the sound of power tools as everyone was boarding up their windows and doors. Thankfully Scott was not on call and could drive with me and our young son to San Antonio. We packed what we could in our two cars and headed out. I did not know if we have a home to return to or where I would have this baby I was carrying. We stopped every 45 min. because I could not sit for very long in any one position. As I felt helpless in the path of this natural disaster, God reminded me that He was taking care of us. He was leading us out, providing for our travel and safety and would continue to do so. I needed to continue to trust in Him. As I tried to reign in all my hormonal emotions, I concentrated on Him. He did exactly as He promised He would in His Word. He provided, protected and gave comfort. He alone did this for me.

Today, we have two families in our area that are flying the American flag upside down showing that our country is in distress. I understand their emotion and their point. I want to say put a cross on your lawn, Bible verses up on your frig. or mirrors, keep Christian music playing, Bibles out...His presence constant. He will be our stronghold in this country's distress. He alone

Anne;

I got on the CARS.gov site last night -- they've changed it. It no longer looks the way it looked on Glen Beck Friday night, and the usage notice is gone. There's a comment on the home page about CARS.gov being back; I imagine they had to re-host the site and in the process took out the usage warning. Now it just has a generic govt. privacy and usage webpage. I guess things must have gotten really hot for them after Beck's show aired.

Well, the equipment was recovered. A large flight box is ruined, a bass amp and lighting is also ruined. But it pales in comparison to what could've happened, which so often does. That is, there was a possibility that we would've never seen any of it again. My son is so glad that the full set of "silver pearl drums," wasn't ruined or gone completely! That is an expensive set.

God is good and speedy! Always on time.

Thanks for praying.

jim.carroll said...

Shalom, all! WOW! Talk about getting hit in the face with a cold fish! I was reading that article about "Is Israel Preparing to Strike Iran?" and about halfway down I read something that made me sit up:

VAN SUSTEREN: It's interesting, President Obama has given North Korea -- not North Korea, but has given Iran until September to say whether they will have discussions about nuclear weapons. What happens after the date passes, if Iran just basically blows us off?

BOLTON: Well, the theory then, at least as articulated by the administration, is we then turn to sanctions, perhaps against refined gasoline being imported into Iran, perhaps others. All of that is very interesting, and, in fact, would have been a great idea about six years ago.

Right now, I'm reading (re-reading, actually) Michael Oren's "Six Days of War", about the events leading up to the Six-Day War in 1967. Reading that book is like reading the newspaper today. In 1967, the thing that set off the Six-Day War is that Egypt closed the Straits of Tiran to Israeli shipping. This means the port of Eliat was blockaded. A blockade of a port is a de facto act of war.

For two weeks there was intense debate over whether Israel should counter-attack Egypt or focus on a diplomatic solution. President Johnson was trying to organize Operation Regatta, which would be a multinational force to run the blockade, sending aid to Israel. The theory was, Egypt was not going to attack all those nations' ships; the blockade would be broken, Israel accepts the new status quot, and the world goes on.

Problem was, Egypt grabbed a tiger's tail and wouldn't let go. All the diplomatic options did was to get Syria and Jordan to join in threatening Israel. In a few days, all the surrounding Arab states had started sending in troops, and the Soviet Union gave Egypt et. al. a blessing on starting a war with Israel.

There was a date set for starting Operation Regatta two weeks after the first of June. The problem is no one wanted to join the operation, and even Congress was digging in its heels on becoming involved in another war while we were still fighting in Vietnam.

When I saw that bit about "Iran being given until September", all I could think of was the deadlines all these countries were giving Israel, and finally, after Jordan and Syria made their moves, Israel attacked.

It's 1967 all over again.

When I was studying the 12 Tribes of Israel a few months back it was noted that Dan is missing from the Tribes listed in Revelation. I posted a little bit of info on that at the time but in this video they tie in the tribe of Dan with the Vikings which eventually lead to Royalty in England.

Knowing what you've studied on England-what do you think?

Does anyone know if the Vikings are really decendants from the tribe of Dan?

we must be on the same page with the whole birther thing. I sent a letter to the editor of wnd about it-twice I might add and it has yet to be published- but I'll post it here

"So even non-birthers are now just saying release the certificate and lay to rest remaining doubt. They are puzzled by the President's lack of transparency in this area. One possibility is that the President's refusal is no more nefarious than elitist arrogance. Witness the President's refusal to pay parking tickets from law school until just before he was seeking the Presidency. If not elitist arrogance then why? Certainly if the President doesn't meet the constitutional requirement for office then not releasing the document keeps him in office and in power.

But there are also benefits in not releasing the document if he does indeed met the constitutional requirement for office and is in point of fact a natural born citizen-misdirection and marginalization. Just what would people be discussing and writing about in place of the whether the President is constitutionally eligible to be President? The answer is the policies of the President, Congress and the Senate. I think it is prudent to ask if this refusal is deliberate so that public discussion and opinion are misdirected from policy to eligibility such that the far left liberal agenda that is being so rapidly pushed onto us is less fully commented on and discussed. I think it is also prudent to reflect on the end game so to speak of this whole discussion on eligibility. Of what value will the opinions of those who have lead the fight on eligibility be on policy and other issues if the President, deciding the moment is right because of a critical piece of policy pending, actually releases his long form birth certificate. Might those opinions be marginalized and less effective and potent? Could winning the birth certificate battle lose the political war in the long run?

Are we picking the right fight in persisting on questions of eligibility? Should this be our line in the sand? If we don't fight on this do we lose both the battle and the war?

No easy or pat answers on this one. Glenn Beck actually has a point though-what are you going to do with the information you get? Do you seriously think that he'll be kicked out of office? I forsee some sort of law being passed to make it ok. Unfortunately, many who voted for him still don't see that he's a big problem and they really don't care if he was born here or not. Amending the constitution to allow for foreign born people to be elected president has been brought up before and I suspect such an amendment would be very popular and pass quite quickly to keep Obama in office. I personally think he should release the certificate and settle the issue once and for all but I don't really see it happening."

As was watching Beck last night and apparently the whole discrediting thing isn't that far off either. Seems the DNC has started to label in recent videos those showing up at tea parties and townhall meetings to address their congressmen or senators as part of the fringe birther movement. So those of us who care about the direction our country is taking are now being marginalized as part of a movement that it may or may not be true that one i s a part of. Beck asked his guests last night-do you see these people going back to DC and listening or do you see them ignoring "we the people". After watching some of the comments from Dem senators and watching the video I see them ignoring "we the people". I think the roots of the fall of America are being set up. We are pressuring Israel to give up land and divide their eternal capital of Jerusalem. I think the huge disconnect we are seeing between the people and our government is the division that God is going to judge us with.

As others have said-I no longer pray that God is not going to judge us as a nation but that perhaps the judgment will be less than it should be in His infinite mercy.

The editors of National Review Online printed an editorial dated July 28, 2009, entitled, "Born in the U.S.A."

You can find it in the archives. I tried to paste the article, but it was too large to post here.

The concluding matter for them was that Obama's birth was announced in two Honolulu newspapers. I don't know how that could be faked.

I think there are a whole lot more important matters confronting our country that even many evangelical Christians don't seem to be aware of.

He kept bugging me about it over the years so finally I figured out he really wanted some of his diamonds back out of my ring & back into his. Well-that did it so I did get a new setting but this time I only wanted one band.

So to this day I only wear the new engagement band as the wedding ring.

Great news, Mac & Alesia!

Funny story about my engagement ring. The day my husband planned to propose he realized he had no ring. We were broke, broke, broke. He was at a Perkins restaurant having lunch with the pastor who married us and as he left he grabbed out of the kids wishing well a ring with a clown's head. That night he drove me to a romantic park, got down on one knee, asked me to marry him and put the clown ring on my finger! I hesitated only a moment, wondering if this was a joke, and then said yes. For our 15th anniversary he bought me a "real" engagement ring, but all of us (kids, too) like the clown ring best. We've been married 32 years.

campsmore said...

Anne, what a cute story! My brother gave my sister-in-law a beautiful ring when he proposed. Thankfully he bought an insurance policy on it. She went to work the next day and decided to do an exercise class on lunch hour. She took her ring off and tied it onto her tennis shoe and proceeded to kick box. After about 45 minutes she decided it was time to shower and get back to work. She took off her shoes and saw the flattened ring!! She couldn't even get it back on. That night my brother came to pick her up and said, "Let me see the ring on your finger." She hid her hand to he wouldn't see the ring missing. Finally she had to admit to ruining the ring. He laughed so hard as she smacked him! He told her he bought insurance and everything was covered.

Not long after we were married we had lunch w/one of hubby's long ago x-girlfriends. She's also an attorney. She asked to see the ring-and responed with "Oh,it looks like a napkin holder!". (you know the circular ring style.)

I just smiled back.

cute stories about engagements. we had talked for some time about becoming engaged and I was getting quite impatient-hey at 32 I wasn't getting any younger right? so my then boyfriend joined me at the tail end of a business trip in NOLA. I figured if he was going to propose this was it because he had always talked about how beautiful the Oak Alley plantation was. We got there and wandered around. He kept wanting to go back to the car-batteries, extra film etc all of course I kept telling him he didn't need to go back to the car to get as I had it right there. well no ring and we were getting ready to go. I was sooo disappointed. He suggested we stop for pictures in front of the plantation gate and get someone to take our picture. I agreed and we found someone to take our picture. he took the ring box out and proceeded to lose matching band in the rock gravel (which we found) while the wife of the camera man was squealing in delight. he put the ring on my finger but he totally forgot to ask if I'd marry him. seems he had forgotten the ring in the car and I kept preventing him from going back and getting it. He finally did remember to ask, on one knee even, on a levee in front of the San Fransisco plantation.

we have enjoyed on our trips back to NOLA revisiting the 2 plantations. We haven't been in a while-the meeting that used to be there every 3 years no longer goes there and we couldn't make it to the last one. we do have friends in the area which we really should go visit sometime-we haven't seen them in a few years.

An email I received today from American Minute with Bill Federer (Hope it's not too long)
August 7
The largest town in Kentucky had less than 2,000 people, yet 25,000 came to Cane Ridge, Kentucky, AUGUST 7, 1801, from as far away as Ohio and Tennessee, to hear Barton W. Stone and other Baptist, Methodist and Presbyterian ministers.

Part of the Second Great Awakening, these "camp meetings" were described by Rev. Moses Hodge:

"Nothing that imagination can paint can make a stronger impression...Sinners dropping down on every hand, professors praying, others in raptures of joy!...
There can be no question but it is of God, as the subjects...can give a clear and rational account of their conversion."

The revival began in the lawless Kentucky frontier in 1797 when James McGready and his small church agreed to:

"bind ourselves to observe the 3rd Saturday of each month for one year as a day of fasting and prayer for the conversion of sinners in Logan County and throughout the world...pleading with God to revive His work."

Previously, in June of 1800, 500 gathered at the Red River and later 8,000 met at the Gaspar River, some from 100 miles away.
Reports stated:

"The power of God seemed to shake the whole assembly...the cries of the distressed arose...No person seemed to wish to go home."

Jim, I really think there are major things going on behind the scenes that really doesn't make headline news. Think how the ten-nations are coming together nicely. Euro is becoming a power house. Solana working diligently behind the radar to bring about the NWO. The HC bill to control the masses via a national ID(at least in my mind), as Satan will need all this control so he can implement total world control and who gets to be worshipped. I also see Obama starting his power grab for the air waves, the increased devaluing of the dollar for future ease of world currencies into singular usage. And the war drums are beating louder and louder day by day in the ME. Its amazing to see it all, and I have only touched on the surface! BTW, I'm praying for your interview to go well on Monday. -Jec

two of Lori's links have to do with the burden of Jerusalem this morning and how the world is striving for control of this one city with nothing to really recommend for it except that it is God's city and Satan wants it. you know, I used to think as a kid that I was part of the end times generation and it is more and more appearing that I was correct. However, it isn't exactly as I thought it would be that's for sure-a consequence of not thinking through how one gets from point a to point b or I just thought ALL the scary stuff was going to happen after the rapture instead of the seeds of it being sown and starting to sprout before.

Hi all,
Stopping by to wish Mac & Alesia all God's best blessings as far as the future stretches! Biggest congrats!

jib, my engagement had a similar theme to yours. I was a Sr. in college (in PA) and Bob was already working out in Indiana state so we didn't get to see each other too much after he graduated. He came to visit me at my parents' house the day after Christmas and I knew a ring was coming soon, but had been led to believe it would happen closer to graduation in the spring.
He had 'planted' a Christmas present in my bedroom, under the bed. After dinner, he told me that my mom had forgetten to get some gifts out the day before and would I please go up to my room and get them. Well, I knew that was perfectly ridiculous because Mom hadn't mentioned anything to me and she wouldn't put gifts under my bed anyway. I wasn't biting and he had to find a way to get me to go upstairs to get the gift. We almost started an arguement over it but I finally went upstairs just to prove him wrong. There was a gift, of course, and I began to realize that something was going on at that point. I opened the present and found a white porcelain heart jewelry box with the inscription, "Not a gift but a promise" written on it. Inside was the sparkly and when I turned to look at him (and apologize for being such a dork), he was on his knee ready to pop the official question. He had to know what the answer was going to be because I had been planning the wedding the whole first semester!
Another funny part of the story is how he called my dad to get my parents' blessing. He later told me he was shaking so badly before calling that he put on extra socks to try and warm up. He wasn't sure when he was going to call Dad, but he was watching the Eagles game and when they beat the detested Cowboys (sorry Texas folks :-) he took it as a sign and made the call. He got his blessing and the rest was soon history! We'll have our 13th anniv. in a few weeks. Our tradition is to watch our wedding video and this year the kids will be old enough to enjoy it with us.

Blessings!

I felt really bad at spoiling his surprise and I really had thought the moment had passed so I was actually surprised when I might not have been otherwise since I was expecting a proposal.

I am trying to catch up! I have been extremely busy! I will read all I can. Just a note. I think I may have mentioned this before, but it was confirmed with my pastor this morning. I had already felt God was moving His people out of Israel. It seems there are a lot of missionaries feeling the call to return home for the present time. My pastor said, in his sermon this morning, that another ministry in Israel had been operating there a long time. It was a friend of his that managed it. He said that all of a sudden everything just crumbled. They had to leave. My pastor is of the same persuasion that something is fixing to happen. This seems to agree with the comments I have been reading that G-d is stirring up the people of Israel! Something is fixing to happen! Pray people pray!

Late Night Lisa, you are in South Carolina? If you get a chance, give me a holler! I live there! It would be great to meet you! I don't know about the viking/tribe of Dan connection. I do know the person who was writing the book/blog on the royal family definitely felt they were somehow connected to "Cain" of the Bible. I don't see how that is possible since Noah and his family were the only ones to survive the flood. It was also stated that the royals are called "blue bloods." The connection was made with nephilim. Apparently when some of the ufo's have crashed, there has been evidence they had blue blood! Really creepy! I do remember watching a show on the History channel that was talking about tools of war. The Vikings did invade England at one point. I definitely wouldn't be surprised to find out they had mixed in with them. I will look it up. Thanks for all of the headlines everyone is posting. I have been off for awhile and have no idea how long it will take me to catch up! Things are moving so fast! Congratulations to the newly engaged couple! Finding true love is a glorious thing!

Jim, praying for your interview. Go get em!
I live in South Carolina and hearing that there was a Russian sub off the eastern coast was a little distressing! I know there was a reason for it! The government tried to reassure everyone that it was a small sub and incapable of shooting any missiles. Still, maybe they're testing the waters before they send a bigger one! They said our waters only run 12 miles offshore and the sub was about 200 miles, so they couldn't do anything about it. So, if they send a war sub 200 miles off coast, what can they do about that? Hopefully, plenty.
My engagement ring story? My husband had taken me to Charleston SC to ask me to marry him. He had ordered a ring, and it hadn't come in yet. Everyone had me so excited to go, saying that is probably what he was up to! I waited and waited, hanging on every word! We were about to leave with no proposal. Finally, we were getting ready to leave and he just very nonchalantly told me he had intended to ask me to marry him. He told me the ring had not come in yet, so would I give him the answer and wait on the ring? Of course the answer was yes. I didn't even care about the ring. A couple of weeks later it came. I went to visit him and he gave it to me. I was really surprised! The ring size hadn't mattered to me and we had been looking at a smaller ring. I was surprised to see he had ordered a larger one! Unfortunately, he didn't get insurance. I was working 10 hour days and exhausted. One day I was getting ready for work and couldn't find my ring! I was desperate! I looked everywhere I could think of and couldn't find it! I had to go to work so I just decided I would have to look for it when I got home. I did. For about 2 weeks! I was hysterical! I finally had to tell him I couldn't find it! I was so worried about how he was going to take it! He was very calm and just said he would hate to be responsible for a ring like that! He was so nice about it, I felt even worse! I was at home and by now was really praying and seeking G-d. I had my hand on my forehead with my eyes closed and just told G-d that the ring was really important to me and I really needed His help! Honestly, I just looked down and saw a piece of cellophane sticking up out of the trash can. I remembered I had brushed off some litter on my sink into the can with my hand. I started digging. Sure enough! The cellophane came off a cd and you know how sticky those things are! My ring was there stuck to it! I was dancing around my bathroom thanking the Lord, then quickly called my fiancee to let him know! Thank G-d that He really cares for things that are important to us! Even things we think will be small to Him!

jib,
Watching the video is actually more of a night at a comedy club than a trip down romantic memory lane now. How did Bob ever think those glasses were stylish? Did the organist and violinist even bother to practice together beforehand? How cheesy is having fish bowls with floating candles on each table at the reception?
Most mortifying moment of the day? When the DJ played (completely without us requesting it) the theme song to The Waltons. I was desperately trying to convince my in-laws that I wasn't just a country bumpkin, but that didn't help :-)
And let me tell you, videography technique has come a LONG way since 1996. I guess it was cool back then to overlap outside shots of the church with the clouds in the sky above. The church shots were still but the cloud shots moved in circles. Nearly makes me seasick every time I watch it!
But we're still clicking away and that's all that really matters :-)

campsmore said...

We didn't have video. One of my best friends composed a Classical piano piece for my wedding march, it was anything but traditional. Nothing weird or unusual happend at my wedding unless it was kept from me, in which case I owe someone a very big THANKS. Well, that is except the one guy from church was thought we served regular wine (non-alcoholic), he was very drunk off the stuff until my DH and I leaned over and asked how he was enjoying his non-alcoholic wine. (sobered up real fast)

The gal who caught my bouquet was very shy (caught it in the face!) and the guy who caught the garter was also shy. They officially met at our first New Year's Eve party and then were married the following year. At their wedding they had a Unity candle, which is how her veil caught fire during the ceremony. The groom calmly reached up and snuffed out the fire with his hand and the ceremony continued without anyone noticing. They bent down to take communion with their feet facing the onlookers. That's when we realized some dope wrote, HELP on the groom's left shoe and ME! on the right shoe.

I could tell you stories about wedding pranks and stuff to make you blush, but then we don't want to put any ideas in anyone's head now, do we?

Have a great night, I'll post tomorrow when my news will be old like yesterday's paper.

I got such a kick out of your comments about watching your wedding video. When i watch I mourn the figure that was. we had minor glitches-most of the bad stuff happened before the wedding. organist backed out a month before etc.

we do have 2 stories however, the one being absolutely priceless. i was older when I got married. I think my mom and I had both despaired that the day would ever come. When the minister told my DH could kiss me I heard unplanned music from the organist. unbeknownst to me my mom asked her to play the Hallelujah chorus from the Messiah. I busted out laughing in mid kiss and my DH was really upset because the music didn't register with him at all. Half the church was laughing and the other half couldn't figure out what was so funny.

not to be out done my mom in law hired some singers to sing at the reception as a surprise because we weren't dancing so she thought people might be bored. my DH was HOT! we had tons of guests leave, got stuck with HUGE amounts of cake etc. It was sweet but went on for-30-40 minutes! When we got back she asked him how he liked it and he just unloaded-too long etc. poor woman she was trying to be sweet and it totally backfired. I think the only thing i wish I had done differently would be to have had it at a different location than we did-my partner was a little disappointed that we didn't ask to have it at the local country club-never crossed my mind but that would have been very nice. didn't find out about that though until really too late. oh well.

Lori

your comments about the guy at your wedding and drinking (or not) brought a smile to my face as well. we used to make for fun wagers when traumas would come in what their alcohol level would be based on their behavior. we had one guy one night that was totally and completely just a complete a** so we figured his level would be major high. nope he was nearly stone cold sober-just a complete jerk.

This seems like a tip I should pass on. I know it has nothing to do with eschatology, etc but it sure seems like good info to know.

Wasp Spray

I have a friend who is a receptionist in a church in a high risk area
who was concerned about someone coming into the office on Monday to
rob them when they were counting the collection. She asked the local
police department about using pepper spray and they recommended to her
that she get a can of wasp spray instead. The wasp spray, they told
her, can shoot up to twenty feet away and is a lot more accurate,
while with the pepper spray they have to get too close to you and
could overpower you. The wasp spray temporarily blinds an attacker
until they get to the hospital for an antidote. She keeps a can on
her desk in the office and it doesn't attract attention from people
like a can of pepper spray would. She also keeps one nearby at home
for home protection. You could also keep it in your car and it would
not be illegal. Thought this was interesting and might be of use...

Watch a video about it here:

Oh Alesia,
I kinda know what that's like...the horrible saying goodbye time. When Bob would visit for a weekend over the summer, we'd have our goodbye at the Burger King next to the interstate exit. I used to bawl my eyes out which made it impossible for him to leave and he'd stay another 1/2 hour til I calmed down, only for another round of tears to follow that one.
I think the longest we went without seeing each other was 3 months. At the time, that seemed like an eternity because in college we could spend the better part of the day together. It also made us realize that we didn't want to continue the long-distance thing any longer than necessary. I think he would've been happy with a longer engagement if we were living closer together, but driving 9 hours after work on Friday, then 9 hours back late Sunday wasn't too appealing. We got engaged in Dec. I graduated in May and we were married in Aug.
I'll be praying for you and Mac to be comforted during this in-between time, as Christine noted. And let's expect there won't be too many of those Burger King days, if any more at all!

Blessings,
Jen

I wanted to pass on a book that, if you're a history geek like me, you'll find VERY interesting:

1967: Israel, the War, and the Year that Transformed the Middle East by Tom Segev

I just finished re-reading "Six Days of War" by Michael Oren (who is presently Israel's ambassador to the US). While that is a very detailed account of the Six-Day War, I'm enjoying "1967" even more. Mr. Segev does an excellent job of recreating the society existing in Israel in 1967, using letters written by Israelis to family members in America.

For example, in 1966, only 3 out of every 10 apartments in Israel had telephones, and nearly 60,000 people were waiting for one. The good news was that in 1966, the wait for one had gone from 3 years down to 2. The newspaper Ha'Aretz would run articles on proper etiquette when using your neighbor's phone. Also, in that year, television broadcasting began in Israel. It looks like they skipped black-and-white and went straight to color broadcasting -- the Arab and Cypriot broadcasts they'd been getting earlier were all in B&W, and the Israeli government wanted something that would both differentiate it from the Arab stations and prove the superiority of Israel over the surrounding countries.

1966 was also when Israel was hit with a major recession, which lead to violence and some riots among the Mizrahi (Sephardic) Jews, since they were the last hired and the first fired.

All these situations and problems lead up to the crisis of 1967, which in turn lead to the War. All in all, an excellent read.

<><

Jen said...

Jim,
Speaking of Ha'Aretz, what do you know about the political-leaning spectrum of newspapers/news sites out of Israel? I browse several sites, but since I'm not familiar with the specifics of all the parties and what they stand for, I don't always know which way the articles are leaning. For example, which paper/site is most conservative? Which is most secular? Most affected by the American Jewish perspective?
I've tried asking a few people about this but haven't gotten a satisfactory answer. Any input?
Thanks!

The Welsh hymn writer William Williams compared the Christian life to the Israelite's trek through the wilderness. We may not know the route by which God is leading us, but we humbly count on His guidance.

As a college student, Williams prepared for a career in medicine. But one Sunday morning he heard a man preaching in a Welsh churchyard. Williams responded in faith, and his life was radically changed. For forty-three years he preached and sang throughout Wales. "He sang Wales into piety," said one writer. He was the poet laureate of the Welsh revival. Soon, all of Wales was singing their way to the coal mines and soccer matches. And their favorite hymn was this marching song by one of their own: "Guide me, O Thou Great Jehovah.…Songs of praises I will ever give to Thee."

Jib, I think you're right about the political leanings of the papers. As for secular or not, I don't think there are any religious newspapers in Israel that have English editions. They're Jewish newspapers printing to a Jewish audience; they should be able to read Hebrew. That goes for the international audience as well. The Jerusalem Post and Ha'aretz both look for an international audience, so they print English editions.

I find myself looking at their web sites often during the day, trying to get a jump on any news coming out of Israel before the MSM gets it.

God bless you Alesia and Mac during this time of separation. May it be a time where your love ripens and matures, Giving you a much greater depth to your relationship once you are married. In the same way with all children, one can see them grow emotionally when they come thru a time of sickness. May your empty time be a time of true filling.

Praying for you Jim on that job.

On a side note, I posted my audio sermon on my blog if you have a spare 55 minutes.

Hopefully I will be able to keep up with this new format.

God bless, Wayne

Here are some more news or newsmagazines in English. Haaretz is leftish in their opinions, but I have found their news stories accurate without bias as to their opinions.

Arutz Sheva is most definitely a nationalist zionist newspaper and my favorite. Plus they also do Israel National Radio via the internet. Israel took away their radio license; they then went on the radio airwaves from a ship off the coast; then Israel stopped that, so they went on the internet.
It's one of my favorite places. I dearly love all those that are connected to Arutz Sheva. I've been supporting them for about 12 years now.

Israel Insider is also a nationalist zionist newsmagazine.

Ynetnews is the English version of Ynet. Their opinions lean leftist, but they report the news accurately.

Aish.com is a really good place to find out what is going on in Israel besides the news. Written totally from a Jewish perspective.

Israel Today prints a monthly magazine but their website also prints daily and current news and opinions. Some of my friends suspect that messianic Jews are behind this work. I don't know but they are definitely pro Israel in a biblical sense.

Other good sources are all the Christians that live in Israel that report the news. Such as Bridges for Peace, Maoz Israel, etc.

If you check the LINKS on Zola Levitt's webpage, you will find many friends of Israel that report what is going on in Israel.

Another one of my favorite places is "Women in Green." Ruth and Nadia Matar keep us posted on what is happening on the ground in Israel with real people. They are people who believe that the land of Israel is for the Israeli's just as God promised. I love them so much and have been a member since they first organized.

Happy reading!

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

And another good one...

This week's promise: God has wonderful plans for your life
How does God lead?

"My sheep recognize my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish."
John 10:27-28 NLT

Hearing His voice

As our Good Shepherd, Jesus promises that we can hear and know His voice. This does not, however, have to be some mysterious, mystical process. In fact, you may be surprised to learn that God speaks to you quite often. I would venture to say He has spoken to you lately and may be speaking to you right now in some way.

God speaks to us through His Word. God will never lead us contrary to His written Word. It is our litmus test, our bedrock, our absolute.

God speaks to us through circumstances. Those circumstances can include failure. Jonah certainly heard God through his mistake. God may even speak to us through tragedy or hardship. C. S. Lewis wrote that, "God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains. It is His megaphone to arouse a deaf world."

God speaks to us through His peace. When we live in God's will, we enjoy His peace. Do you need God to make a crucial call in your life? Then listen for His peace.

And once we have heard God's voice, what should we do? We must follow. Jesus calls, we respond. He whispers, we move. We follow—and then we keep on listening.

BTW - Mac made it back, safe & sound.

He would've commented, I'm sure, but he was flat out with jet lag, a little loopy, he was.

Thanks all for your prayers!

I know this is a different topic but has anyone heard of this Maitreya guy? I thought it was a joke at first. Further investigation has led me to believe he could well be antichrist. Lets just say I wouldn't want to be standing beside him in a lightning storm! maitreya There is a lot more. I will try to get some more links up later. It really hit me when he said that he is waiting for mankind to call him to appear. He wants it to be their freewill for him to make his appearance to them and let them accept him as Christ. He is also planning on another Pentecost. He says it will happen when he appears on tv. He won't have to say a word but will be communicating telepathically to mankind's hearts and minds to show them who he really is. He wants to recreate Pentecost. It is blasphemy! He sounds psycho and so do his followers. He is originally from Tehran Iran. He is definitely someone to watch!

I forgot to tell you! I finally got in touch with my friend from Mexico! He had been in Germany for several weeks and forgot to let me know! Men! OOOOh! Anyway, he has invited my husband and I to come down and visit him and his family. All this after he tells me people are walking the streets with guns and the drug wars have become very bad! He said they hear gunshots all during the day! I think I will stay here in the states for the time being..... Anyway, thanks for your prayers! They worked!

While I am thinking about it. Please pray for Antonio, Belinda, Heaven, and Jorge. They are husband and wife and children living in Tlaxcalla Mexico. It is very dangerous for them right now. Pray for their safekeeping and their salvation.
Jim, I will continue to pray for you about your job. I will also pray that, when it comes time for another one, this one will give you a great letter of recommendation to help you!
I'm glad Mac made it home safely. That is a lot in this day and age. I am praying for the jet lag and see that Alesia is already finding comfort in the scriptures! You will, no doubt, be stronger in the Word after this!
I am not sure about the Jewish newspapers. I have a friend who is a Hasidic Jew and a zionist. He believes the Post is too liberal. He said a lot of reformed Jews support the Post. That is just one opinion though.
Still haven't made it through all of the news stories! Whew! Getting behind is work!

jib said...

my reformed Jewish friend said that the Post is definitely the more conservative between Ha'Aretz and the Post. He doesn't particularly care for Ha'Aretz

Mac
glad you made it home ok

Alesia
have faith.

Christine
Lisa is our resident expert on the man you mentioned. I will say I have seen other articles which say that he is a made up person and not real. can't point you to that article however at the moment. He appears to be a fruitcake to me but one never knows.

Otherwise
we sent to see the movie Aliens in the Attic-quite cute with a lot of broad physical humor in the style of Jerry Lewis and Jim Carrey. movieguide.org did a nice job reviewing it and I think it was spot on with what we experienced

Alesia, where is your blog?
I do agree that Maitreya may presently be a figure they are looking for, but hasn't "arrived" on the scene yet. I thought about that when I read that Creme said he would come under a different name because Christians and Jews wouldn't accept the name Maitreya. How about because you don't exactly know who he is yet? That would make sense.
I checked out the guy who is wanting to rebuild Solomon's Temple. I do think this guy bears watching. He is wanting peace between Christians, Jews, and Moslems. He is a Moslem from Turkey. You can actually listen in on the meeting between this man and the Sanhedrin at this link.
Oktar If you scroll down on bottom left, you will see a heading for links. There is a link for an interfaith union that this man has started. It's a lot of the real thing! I would think this is the way antichrist would come. Sliding in on a platform of peace!

Homeward Bound said...

Bob Morley's site (Lori's uncle) has a post on this meeting with the Sanhedrin.

campsmore said...

Uncle Bob's site today deals with the one world religion (understanding) and my site has news that shows solid formation of one world gov't. Interestingly, I posted the article he discusses, but he doesn't receive my news links. So it's kind of funny that I've been searching one thing, and him the other.

Alesia said...

Christine,
Click on my name & then click on the blog "verily, I say unto thee"

That will take you to my blog.

Lori - I keep meaning to tell you that I'm currently reading uncle Bob's book (well not while Mac was here) but have started back now.

I REALLY enjoy his book!!! I think it is fantastic, I am really going to push for my daughter to read it when I'm done. It is so simplistically written (I mean that in a good way) that I think it will be great for someone searching or maybe not as knowledgeable. Very highly recommend.

I think I will most likely advertise his book on my blog, when I'm done reading it.

Alesia said...

Also Lori - to agree with Jim C - you did a fantastic job on the news website.

Good job!

This may get lost in the shuffle and maybe Lori included it in her links. perhaps these companies need to be written to and/or boycotted.

campsmore said...

Jib,
Although "Money Talks," write to his advertisers first, this can be done online with most.

Give them an opportunity to compile the comments to the
CEO's who will then contact the advertising dept.

This is the fastest way since boycotting will show up in a quarterly report before the CEO's/investors respond.

Consider mentioning, too, that people typically tell friends/family when they're displeased with a product or service, but don't share their satisfaction nearly as much. I always mention it when I'm writing a letter of complaint :-)
