My ex-wife and my two teen-aged daughters live 90 miles away. My ex is out of state on business. I can't drive up there because my vision is still changing due to my diabetes. (I can't get new glasses until my blood sugar stabilizes.)
This afternoon my daughters were driving home from school and got into an accident. Another car hit them while they were making a left turn. No one was hurt (ergo the request for prayers of thanks), but apparently the car is really damaged. Because the car was totaled once already, there's no collision insurance on the car, only liability. I'm going to need discernment to know if I should spend the money to get the car fixed or to get them a different car.

Praise the Lord that your daughters are well! I wouldn't know what to suggest as far as going newer or fix up. I guess your mechanic would be the best person to consult. But I would definitely not get new. The blasted vehicles depreciate thousands of dollars the moment you drive them off the lot.

Lori, trust me, I am NOT buying my ex-wife a new car! General Plakov, the car that was in the accident, was my old car: a year 2000 Daewoo Nubira. The Daewoo auto line was bought by GM and the Nubira is now being marketed as the Chevy Aveo. The car was totaled in 2006 when I hit a deer. I put it back together because it ran so well, and it continued to do so until just before Christmas 2007 when the timing belt broke. I was going to scrap it when my ex's car started dying. Since she needed that car to get my kids around, I spent close to $3,000 fixing the engine, fixing the brakes, and getting new tires put on, and sold it to her for a dollar.
Since then, General Plakov has been my ex's favorite car ever, because the blessed thing just runs. We'll see how much it will cost to get the General back on his tires, then I'll ask G_D what to do.

Shalom, all! Here's a new topic for discussion: Gifts of the Holy Spirit. In the Catholic Church, I was taught the list of gifts come from Isaiah 11:2, where there are seven gifts listed: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and the fear of the Lord. The nine gifts listed in 1 Cor. 12:8-10 (speaking in tongues, interpretation of tongues, discernment of spirits, prophecy, healings, miracles, faith, word of knowledge, and word of wisdom), are called charisms of the Spirit, to differentiate from the ones listed in Isaiah.
The problem is, there are other lists of "gifts of the Holy Spirit." Romans 12:6-8 lists seven gifts (prophecy, service, teaching, exhortation, giving, leadership, and showing mercy). And where do you put the "fruits of the Holy Spirit" listed in Galatians 5:22-23 (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control)?
FWIW, the Catholic Church views the "fruits" as the natural result for people who are living in the Holy Spirit. And because of the different lists, we don't consider the lists to be exhaustive; simply the most common. What does your church teach?

How about giving us some history on the traditional Christian holidays such as "Ash Wednesday"?
I enjoyed hearing about "Transfiguration Day" last week from the Lutheran Church.
I don't know about all but my Evangelical Church does not incorporate some of these traditional days of remembrance.
They stress Resurrection Day & Christmas but that's about it.
Now that I'm aware/learning about the Jewish Holidays it's hard to keep up w/them all.
Today for the Jewish people it's Rosh Chodesh (New Month/New Moon) and Adar 1.
On Adar 13th it's their Fast of Esther & the next day the 14th it's Purim. Then on Adar 25th it's the Biblical New Year & the 26th is Rosh Chodesh again & Biblical New Year's Day- Nisan 1.
Jim, the Gifts of the Holy Spirit (Charisma) are not the same as the Fruit of the Holy Spirit. The Fruits of the Holy Spirit are character building or planting that we grow in as we mature in Christ. The Gifts of the Spirit are given as the Holy Spirit decides. These are all ministry gifts to be utilized in in serving God. A church body that is preaching the Word of God should have all of the gifts of the Holy Spirit in action.
This passage Romans 12:3-21 (King James Version)
3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:
5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.
6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;

21Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. That is a little different than the description and designation of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Paul is actually giving a purpose for the gifts but it is not the same type of dialogue that he uses in 1 Corinthians 12: 1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.
3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

I feel this way about the gifts of the Holy Spirit: The gifts are to be used for and in the service to God only for God's Glory. Please also understand that there are anointings that allow a Believer in Jesus Christ to be able to operate in many of the offices of the ministry outside the church building. In other words, as leaders in the community to serve and bring glory to God's Kingdom. Other times, physicians who have great ability beyond what is humanly possible, teachers who are able to expound on the Word of God, and the list goes on.
The Fruit of the Holy Spirit are these 9 virtues:
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control." (Galatians 5:22)
The best way I can sum this up is to say God wants all of us to enter into a sanctification process with Him so that He can begin the process of molding, shaping and transforming us into the express image of His Son Jesus Christ. He wants to make us into a mature and more holy people. He wants to transform us by the renewing of our minds. He wants to put right thinking into our thought process.
It is by the power of the Holy Spirit that this sanctification process is done with us in this life. However, none of us are a passive robot in all of this. We all have to be willing to work in cooperation with the Holy Spirit once He begins to start this process within us.
Our job will be to get into the Word to find out exactly what it is God is going to want to change about us. We will need to find out exactly what qualities God will want us to try and "put on" into our personality and what qualities He will want us to try and "put away." So, the fruit is added to as we grow in the Admonition of the Lord. Kinda like a baby learning to eat, then crawl, then walk, then talk, and then well, diapers and such. Out grow the bottles and diapers and then to run.
I know Christians who have been saved for 30 or 40 years, some longer and they are still trying to get that first character perfected in their walk with God. As long as we love ourselves more highly than our neighbors, we aren't achieving anything. Loving others in spite of the outward appearance seems to be a big hurdle for some. But that love is the Agape love that God has for all of us. Not the touchy, feely kind.
I know there will be many others who will add to what I have said but it is what I believe your questions are asking.
Remember JIM, the testaments were divided because the Jews were addressed in the Old and Goyim in the New, along with the Jews first. So, there is no difference between Jew and Gentile but all are one in God's eyes. If the Jews hadn't rejected Jesus as the Son of God and their Messiah, well, we know the rest of that one. He said he loved the Whole World so much that He (Abba Father) gave us all his Son, Jesus Christ.

Actually am reading a book on this very thing-sort of. John Stott has a book out which is generally hailed by those on both sides of the issue of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. I haven't read that much so far but I gather from just the introduction and some blurb by someone else about the book-not a review-that all are baptised by the Spirit at the moment of conversion but that fullness of the Spirit in which one would see prophecying, speaking in tongues, healing etc come via fullness of the Spirit. Stoff makes the observation that while all are certainly baptized by the Spirit not all walk in fullness of the Spirit and he thinks that the universal church suffers because of this. His take on the tongues vs no tongues from what I have read thus far is that the far sides of both arguments are wrong. I'll let you know more later.
Lisa, Shalom! To answer your question, "Ash Wednesday" marks the beginning of Lent, the 40-day period that leads up to Easter. It's called Ash Wednesday because you get your forehead marked with a cross of ashes. The ashes are a traditional sign of mourning or repentance. You can read numerous times in the Old Testament of the people there donning sackcloth and putting ashes on their head to mark repentance of their sins. As a symbol of that sign, we mark our foreheads with ashes.
The ashes use usually come from burning palm leaves. The Sunday before Easter is Palm Sunday, where people put palm branches on the road as Jesus entered Jerusalem. In memory of this, palm leaves are passed out in church on that day. The leaves are usually displayed (somewhere) in the house for the year. Then, a couple of weeks before Ash Wednesday, people bring in the palms to the church. The palms are burned, and the ashes are used on Ash Wednesday. One year, the church I was at had people write down their sins and behaviors that they wanted to give up and change; those notes were burned and those ashes were used, but it must not have been very popular because that was the only time I saw that.
It's a very simple ceremony: some prayers are said, there is a brief scripture reading, then people line up to have the ashes applied on their foreheads. I know some ash distributors who use their index finger to draw a cross on the forehead, but that just strikes me as uncomfortable for both the distributor and the recipient. Most distributors (myself included) use their thumb: put ash on the thumb (not as easy as it may sound -- next year I'm going to moisten my thumb first), then draw a cross on the person's forehead. While drawing the cross you say to the person one of three things: "Remember man that thou art dust and unto dust thou shall return" (traditional), "Repent and believe in the Good News," and the third one must not have impressed me because I can't remember it. I used the "Repent" phrase, because I'm feeling the need to warn people to repent.
During Lent, you're supposed to practice charity and self-mortification. By "self-mortification" I mean things like fasting or giving up a favorite food or activity, replacing it with prayer or reading Scripture or inspirational works. When I was younger, I would give up things like chocolate and going to movies. You're also supposed to fast and abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, and to abstain from meat on the Fridays during Lent. (That's why you're seeing all the ads for fast food fish on TV right now.) Because of my diabetes, I'm exempt from the fasting requirement, but I'm still abstaining from meat. There are also different devotions that are traditional, like the Stations of the Cross. This is a "virtual pilgrimage" for people who could not travel to the Holy Land and walk the Via Dolorosa. There are 15 stations, 14 marking Christ's trip to Gethsemane and the 15th marking His Resurrection. You can find the stations and their prayers here.
All of this leads up to the Easter Tridium: Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. Holy Thursday marks the Last Supper; Good Friday marks the Crucifixion; and Holy Saturday marks the vigil at the tomb and the end of Lent.

Something to add.
Compare the baptism of the Holy Spirit to entering into a river. The river of life- in the Holy Spirit. (everyone receives the Holy Spirit upon Salvation)
We can chose to get our feet wet, wade into that river...or swim in it. (there is a God side, and a human side to every promise of God)
And just because a believer has been filled (baptism in the Holy Spirit) doesn't mean they can't leak. We need to stay filled. By the renewing of our minds. And allowing God's purposes, plans and pursuits to be accomplished in our lifes.

Good example! And yes, I know about all of the scare stories out there but believe me when I say, there is nothing like leaking the Holy Spirit all over others. We have to keep renewing ourselves or we become like mold. Or how about Yeast! Leave it sitting out to long and it fizzles. Put too much heat to it and it falls flat, but just the right amount of heat and ingredients produces wonderful results that nourishes our bodies. That is the purpose of the Holy Spirit. He nourishes us with God's Goodness so that we can share Him with others. I think about my life as a Christian before I was filled and what it is now, and the difference is wonderful. No foolishness either. Just knowing that He Is and I am one of his is a great blessing.

It's interesting you should ask that question. On my way to work this morning, I caught the tail end of a radio broadcast where Pastor Jack Hayford touched on this. He's the current president the demomination my church belongs to so I think he's probably a good spokesperson for my church in a round about way;-)
Anyway, he seems to indicate that there are 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit. The teaching series that this broadcast is part of is on the Trinity. Pastor Jack suggested that some gifts are from God the Son, some are from God the Father, and some are from the Holy Spirit.

Jesus gives the Holy Spirit. That is the gift of the Spirit, not gifts of the Spirit. Jesus gives the Holy Spirit to those that come to Him. So the Holy Spirit comes in to dwell in your life but when He comes He comes loaded with packages. And as he comes and he distributes those as He wills and it has to do with situations where given gifts are needed. People say, “What does the Bible mean when it says ‘covet earnestly the best gift?’”

…The speaking with tongues that happened at Pentecost happened as a result of the Holy Spirit’s working in their midst. It didn’t have to do with a case of the Holy Spirit distributing gifts on that occasion. It had to do with the Holy Spirit coming as a gift from the hand of Jesus. And that manifestation that took place of speaking with tongues at Pentecost is not a case of the gift of tongues. That’s a case of the manifestation of the Spirit that is manifest in that particular way as He comes in power in the lives of those people.
The gift of tongues is taught to us in the 14th chapter of 1st Corinthians that it’s a way in which the Lord brings words of prophetic content to the church. Prophecy as the Lord exhorts and comforts and encourages us and him and the tongue comes with the interpretation and 1st Corinthians 14:5 says that’s the same thing as a prophecy. You say, “Well, if it’s the same thing as a prophecy, why bother with a tongues and interpretation prophecy?” Well, you’ll have to ask the Lord the answer to that because I don’t know. He just gave it that way sometimes….I do know this that the spiritual language does help us in prayer beyond what we know….

God (the Holy Trinity) has appointed these (gifts) to the church.
• Gifts from God the Son – Apostles, prophets, teachers, etc.
• Gifts from God the Holy Spirit – Miracles, healing, tongues, etc.
• Gifts from God the Father – Helps, Administration gifts, etc.
These are things like those gifts mentioned in Romans 12:6-8.
How many gifts of the Holy Spirit are there?
The short answer I think is 9.
That makes me nervous though because I don't think it is wise to put a numeric limit on the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

I don't recall a specific sermon of the actual number of the gifts of the Spirit @ our Church. Nine sticks out in my mind-but it may be from other sources I study.
The structure of our Church is that the pastor continually reads/teaches through the Bible cover to cover non-stop for the Sunday service.(Wed nights is another Bible study in a different book.)
When we get back to 1st Corinthians (or if he mentions something meanwhile) I'll pay more attention & see if the Pastor mentions a number but right now we are in the book of James so a return back to 1 Cor. may take awhile. (We started on James 3-weeks ago & just finished Chapter 1.)
Thanks for the Ash Wednesday & Lent info. I first learned about Jesus @ The Stations of the Cross from the nuns who lived in the Convent above our street.
They loved to take me around those stations & talk about each one. Then there was a huge statue of Jesus dead in Mary's arms in the foyer as well. He had a deep wound in his side w/blood dripping out. There was a place to kneel down & I think a little bowl of Holy Water was nearby.
I spent quite a bit of my Childhood @ the convent w/my favorite nuns. I remember asking my parents what I was.( I had fleeting thoughts of becoming a nun.) They said Protestant-then I wanted to know what that was. I was the only "Protestant" in the entire neighborhood. (My parents didn't practice anything.)
All our neighbors & kids all around went to that Catholic Church so I grew accustomed to being the odd ball. (That explains quite a bit- doesn't it?)

Oklahoma House passes sovereignty bill
NEW YORK – Oklahoma's House of Representatives is the first legislative body to pass a state sovereignty resolution this year under the terms of the Tenth Amendment.
The Oklahoma House of Representatives passed House Joint Resolution 1003 Feb. 18 by a wide margin, 83 to 13, resolving, "That the State of Oklahoma hereby claims sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the Constitution of the United States."
The language of HJR 1003 further serves notice to the federal government "to cease and desist, effectively immediately, mandates that are beyond the scope of these constitutionally delegated powers."

Dan is the son of David Boren who served in the Senate for many terms of office. He retired and became the President of Oklahoma University. Dan was considered to be a conservative Democrat but after you read his letter of response that I am posting, draw your own conclusions.
Here is the letter I received, I did remove my formal name for privacy matters:
Dear Mrs.______
Thank you for contacting me in regards to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. It is always a pleasure to hear from my fellow Oklahomans about the issues that concern them most.
Our economy is in dire condition. The United States has shed over one million jobs in the last six months and many economists believe that the unemployment rate could reach 11%. After the swearing in of President Barack Obama, the newly elected Congress considered a large scale economic recovery package designed to get the American economy back on its feet. Within this package was over 60 billion dollars in road projects, 40 billion dollars in school construction funds, and countless other initiatives designed to create three million jobs over the next 24 months including a projected 40,000 jobs in Oklahoma alone.
In the language of the recovery package, Oklahoma is expected to receive funding over the next two years including over $464 million in money for highways and bridges and over $32 million in funding for the Clean Water State Revolving Fund. The over $63 million included for the Weatherization Assistance Program will protect the vulnerable in Oklahoma and another $26 million will go to fund law enforcement and drug treatment programs through JAG-Byrne grants.
I will be the first to admit that this bill is not perfect. Parts of the legislation are very disappointing. But with every piece of legislation, we must weigh the pros and cons of action verse inaction. There is strong agreement among all members of Congress that something must be done or the American economy risks collapse. It is for this reason, I voted along with my fellow colleagues in support the economic stimulus package.
The stimulus package is not the exact bill I would have drafted, but at the end of the day, we can not wait until unemployment lines stretch down the block to decide how we will address this growing crisis. The bill as passed will help create much needed employment in the face of record job loss. It will provide hundreds of millions of dollars for critical infrastructure projects in Oklahoma, and it will extend assistance to state and local governments that face crippling budget shortfalls. This package is also projected to provide an additional $100 per month in unemployment insurance benefits to 96,000 Oklahomans who have lost their jobs in this economy.
It is imperative that we create jobs for hardworking Americans so they can continue to provide for their families. Along with many Oklahomans, I consider the health and continued growth of the U.S. economy to be two of the most important issues presently facing the nation.

I guess it never occurs to any of them to keep turning down the bills until they get it right and quit spending just for the sake of spending. When they come to the realization of exactly what they have put into motion, it will be time to recall of the rascals.
The nice thing about all of this is, democrat and republican alike will suffer the consequences of this grandiose excite to spend what we don't have.

Catching Wild Pigs
A chemistry professor in a large college had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab the Professor noticed one young man (exchange student) who kept rubbing his back, and stretching as if his back hurt. The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting Communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country's government and install a new Communist government. In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and asked a strange question.
He asked, 'Do you know how to catch wild pigs?' The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said this was no joke. 'You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn a gain and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in The last side. The pigs, who are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat, you slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd. Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.
The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening to America . The government keeps pushing us toward socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income , tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, etc.. While we continually lose our freedoms -- just a little at a time. One should always remember: There is no such thing as a free lunch! Also, a politician will never provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it yourself. Also, if you see that all of this wonderful government 'help' is a problem confronting the future of democracy in America , you might want to send this on to your friends. If you think the free ride is essential to your way of life then you will probably delete this email, but God help you when the gate slams shut! Just maybe you will be able to tell who is about to slam the gate on America

Are they all too close to the flames that they can't see the fire?

God is so good and He never changes the rules just to please us. I have been standing on Psalms 5:12 ever since my Blondie friend in Washington State sent me an encouragement to do so. Today, God proved his self again in our best interest. I can't explain about it right now but just know this, He Cares Mightily for all of us, all of the time. Don't get your attention on the World but put your whole heart, mind and soul into His Word. It is so great! Beyond words!

Nate, praying for your back! Seems we are all under an attempted attack of some sort and the battle just heated up a little bit more today.
I will be unable to attend church tomorrow as our ice maker/filter has developed a water leak that needs our attention. We have the water turned off to the appliance and in the process of drawing up all of the water that has already leaked onto the tile (thank God for ceramic tile) and tomorrow we will have to tear out the wall to fix the tubing. Ice boxes were a big problem back in the Good ole days (not) and this is just a new twist to the same old thing.
Hubby's cousin is the local plumber and he is going to come help us get this thing fixed.

This is the funniest thing. Uncle Bob's publisher asked if they could buy back some copies that he purchased to give away.
They were trying to fill Amazon orders and ran out and didn't want to go to print again.
Uncle Bob agreed to send back what he had. But Amazon and other book dealers got slammed with orders!
Long story short, the publisher now is going to print again... 20,000 copies.
Many other print companies are doing so poorly in these times. But these books are flying off the shelves.

praying for you. as one who has had similar symptoms and problems I feel your pain. mine turned out actually to be pyriformis syndroms not my very small herniated disc. symptoms are identical. try alternating heat and cold packs and alternating motrin and tylenol-this constitutes advice of personal experience not actual medical advice.
I would also note that I don't think injuries and illness come from Satan or signify a lack of faith but only you know what is going on in your life. I rather view illness as allowed by God not sent by God either (rather like temptation which is allowed by not of God either)-sometimes it serves to refine us and bring us closer to Him and certainly more serious illness causes us to be more dependent on Him especially for peace.

Good point, Jib. In my case, there’s no way I could blame God for somehow disciplining me via my sore back. I think He just smiles and waits for me to do it all by myself. In fact, come to think of it, he may well intervene sometimes just so that I incur minimal damage. I get this mental picture of God watching me and shaking His head. Back is slowly getting better by the way. Hopefully it will heal in time for me to damage it again.

There is so much going on in our world today but just keeping the faith seems to be an increasing war on several fronts.
I just read this from the AP and thought you all might see some light at the end of the tunnel. FINALLY
There is so very much deception going on and yet "this is the day that the Lord has made, WE SHALL REJOICE AND BE GLAD IN IT".
Now, I have to get DH's breakfast and get on with the daily chores. We had good news yesterday. DH's eye exams has improved eye pressure and we are very thankful to God for this. Glaucoma isn't a welcome addition to the family of ailments and there are signs that the medication is vastly improving the circumstances involved with it.
Gotta get going but I will catch up with you all later.

There is so much news today that I cannot keep up with it and it reminds me of a bible verse in the NT that tells that the reapers will overtake the sowers in the end times before Christ returns. Seems that is the case right now. I witnessed to a young man in the local liquor store today. Now before any of you go bonkers, I hadn't seen this couple for ages and then learned that they now own this store. So, I went in and told them I missed seeing them and how much their friendship has meant to me over the years. They were never saved but they did attend church. That was before I joined the Full Gospel Church. They were always real nice and I really do miss them. They explained that since they purchased the liquor store, they didn't feel right attending church.
We talked about world events, Israel, Obama, Hillary and then we talked about Daniel, Ezekie, and Jeremiah. They asked me if I had any deep feelings about the world situation and I said, "some". I explained where I thought we were and where we are heading and surprising to me, they had been feeling the same way. So, I invited them to attend church with me (FGC) and we are going to go Sunday morning. I am letting God do the guiding and I am just following along watching and learning.
God is so good, and Marge, Good all of the Time.

JIB, wouldn't you know, I didn't read the comments this time from the bottom up, so I didn't see Lori's reposting of the links. Oh, well, I love reading the Kansas City.com edition. You know that they have quit the physical paper edition of their news and I preferred it to the other KC papers. Yes, I have always been a KC newspaper hound. In fact, at one time they got all of the really good writers from the Chicago Tribune and how we loved it. I lived in Missouri for over 16 years but never in KC. But if any of you want some really great BBQ, head that way and enjoy yourself. Independence is the location of my favorite ribs place and at one time I even had their great rib rub! Say that 10 times as fast as you can.
JIM, how is the remake of the General coming along? I think he deserves a 2nd chance at least. Maybe even a 4th or 5th.

Maybe they have the same thinking (or non-thinking) caps on as those who believe in a "Local" Noah's Flood rather than a Biblical "Global" flood.
In fact-I had bought a History Channel DVD on the flood where it was proposed that the flood was only local & gave their reasons for it. This was in my backslid (spiritually blind) state so I did find it rather convincing but didn't fully buy into it as I was taught in my childhood days it was global flood. All it really did was confuse me even more.
It created the questions of doubt:
"Maybe God did not 'Literally' mean what He said in the Bible."
"Maybe it's more figurative & open to interpretation."
Coming from Spiritual blindness into Spiritual discernment is life altering. It shows how we can do nothing apart from the Holy Spirit & God's work in our lives.
With the Islamic/AC ME camp-it appears that they focus too much intensity on that geographical area & not enough of what is transpiring around the world.
They may be experts on the Islamic facet but fail to incorporate all the other branches that spring out of the AC tree. One point not spoken of enough is the False Prophet.
He makes way & points to the AC. The AC tolerates the FP up until a point-then turns on him.
As the One World Currency may well be under way & operating before the little horn AC pops up-I suspect the False Prophet will already be in full operation before the little horn arises as well.
We will just have to see what Religious/Political entity forms to
be the head of this world wide religious sector. The FP will probably be in control of the Temple Mount as an interfaith place of worship?

Mac, Shalom! I think it makes sense. If it IS supposed to be a representation of b'ism'allah, then the translation of Rev 13:18 is something like, "Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding measure/count the multitude of the beast, for the multitude is that of a man; and his multitude is b'ism'allah." The b'ism'allah is the saying that is written on the cloth that the Islamic fighters wear around their heads or on armbands on their right arms (the mark of the beast -- on the forehead or the right [side]).

If it were only that simple. Maybe it is-but I'm not yet convinced of that.
If Gog/Magog or Psalm 83 occur anytime before or at the start of the Trib.-it would decimate the Islamic influence in the region.

Lisa, I know that Jack Kinsella is good friends with Ray Gano, who you know has teamed up with Walid Shoebat, so there may be some influence happening there. I really don't know what to think about Gano and Shoebat. I made a comment on Gano’s site a couple of years ago and now, all of a sudden, he's sending me his newsletter which one would normally have to subscribe to. I do know he’s in some financial difficulty so maybe he’s drumming up business. There’s a lot of bickering happening on this prophetic issue too. Gano and Shoebat have stirred the pot up a bit by doing some cheeky name calling. And I thought the rapture question was volatile.

Jim C. "Multitude" has a specific Greek word for it that is not used in the verse. Here's a reply to Shoebat from someone on Rapture Forums:
[Mr. Shoebat] claims, as you all saw in the video, that the Bible never said 666, that this was a mistake made by the translators. He says that what John saw were not the Greek characters χξς (chi xi sigma) — which means 600 and 60 and 6; instead, he says, when read from right to left John saw the Arabic characters for "b'ism'allah" ... which means "in the name of Allah".
This is a nice theory except for one thing. John says specifically: "ψηφισατω τον αριθμον του θηριου αριθμος γαρ ανθρωπου ἐστίν". —Revelation 13:18 The first word you should look at is ψηφισατω (psee-fiss-AH-to) which means "let him count". The next important word is αριθμον (a-rith-MONE) from which we get our word arithmetic and literally means "number" in the sense of reckoning a number. Contrary to Mr. Shoebat's statement, it does NOT mean "multitude". There IS a koine Greek word for "number" that can also mean "multitude", but it is not αριθμος ("arithmos"), it is ὄχλος ("ochlos"). Quite a different word and if John had wanted to say multitude he would have said "ochlos". So John was not saying "multitude" at all but very explicitly he was saying "count a number".
To continue-- the word θηριου (THAIR-ee-oo) which means "beast" is there in the genitive case, meaning literally "OF the beast". Then the word for arithmetic is there again. And then the word ανθρωπου (an-throw-POO) which means "man" and here is singular and in the genitive case as well, so it means "OF a man". When you put it all together with the definite articles and the verb ἐστίν (es-TEEN) which means "it is" then you have: "let him count the number of the beast for it is the number of a man." And then John says that NUMBER is 600, 60, 6. In other words, 666. Is there any doubt that he is speaking of a number here? He says it very clearly. He says it is a number and we are to count it. And He says the number which we are to count (666) is not only the number of the beast but is in fact the number of a specific man.
This would totally destroy Mr. Shoebat's theory that translators mistook the symbols χξς for the Greek "chi xi stigma" (666) instead of recognizing them as the letters of the Arabic phrase B'ism'allah "in the name of Allah" ... unless. Unless one thing. That it was not the translators who made the mistake ... but John ... or Jesus.
The only way that a mistake could have been made would have been for John himself to have misread the symbols. But that is impossible. You see, Jesus Christ Himself gave the revelation to John. It is HIS revelation, not John's. So if He did not explain to John about the symbols, then He made a mistake. And we know God does not make mistakes.
Secondly, if it WERE a mistake, then that would mean that the Bible would contain an error. And we know God's Word is infallible.
