how are Mac's family in Oz? had he had enough snow to last a lifetime yet :-)
thanks for the prayers for Trevor
and Grany-I'll agree with that
Great seeing Wayne's name up there at the top.
Now Iran Completes Its Conquest of Lebanon and it follows the article from Debkafile earlier.
Things are a cooking, people and maybe tomorrow the wild west will be forgotten because something much bigger will grab the attention of the world. In the meantime, or should I say "mean Times" did anyone hear the fate of the Dirty Dozen from the Kansas Church pilgrimage?
I have been occupied elsewhere today and left it all up to the One who hears our prayers.
I also received a newsletter from Brent Bozell of News Busters relating the media misinformation about the Radical Right's responsibility for the Arizona tragedy. Very interesting article but again, words that can work many different ways.
The most powerful weapon we, as born again Believers in Jesus Christ, have is the Name of Jesus and praying for the souls of all who are involved. That would include all of us.
FILE UNDER "PRAYERS ANSWERED"
WESTBORO CALLS OFF DEMONSTRATION .
Now that is what I call an answer to Prayer.
That just might be the fastest answer to prayer I've ever seen, Grany! I was kinda hoping for the herd of buffalo, though ;-)
PS. The article says that the group called off the protest in exchange for radio time on 2 different programs. They think it's a better platform for reaching more people with their "message"...I say we keep up the prayers for their hearts and minds and the hearts and minds of anyone who might be listening to them on air during those times so that a "message" of a different kind is communicated....the message of the Good News in Jesus!
Genesis 50:20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.
updated my blog
just found out that the man who was essentially the campus pastor when I was in college has stage 4 pancreatic cancer. he's going to try chemo but I think he's in his 80's so it will be rough. Keep PAstor Green in your prayers.
Hi...
Joining you in prayer for Pastor Green and will continue praying for the Westboro people, too...great suggestion!
I agree...Wayne it is so wonderful seeing your name up there!
Mac
how are the family in Oz?
BOO advised to cut ties with Israel
sad to see
Beck is a conservative Oprah or New Age Mormon
Family is safe in Victoria - bottom end of Oz. Thanks for asking, Jib.
Thought you all might be interested in this, re: some of the recent animal die-offs:
Dozens of birds die from alcohol poisoning in Romania
After dozens of starlings were found dead on the outskirts of a Romanian city, fears of avian flu were raised but it has now been determined that the birds were killed by alcohol poisoning.
Reminds me of stories of geese getting drunk after they were fed the leftover mash from moonshining.
Dead bird mystery solved
The mystery surrounding 100 dead birds between Healdsburg and Geyserville appears to be solved.
The European starlings were found dead on the roadway and shoulder at Highway 101 and Independence Lane, just south of Geyserville Saturday afternoon.
State wildlife officials Tuesday said the birds were hit by a truck, a conclusion drawn from a witness statement and the condition of the birds at the scene.
“All the signs point to blunt force trauma,” said Andrew Hughan, spokesman for the state Department of Fish and Game. “It looks like they were hit by a truck.”
Maybe they were drunk too? ;-)

Three New Age doctors have put together a 52-week health program for Saddleback congregants who are absolute advocates and proponents of eastern-style meditation and much, much more. What are the spiritual underpinnings of the meditation these three New Age doctors at Rick Warren's Saddleback Church are propagating? This report will explain. I use firefox as well. But I'm typing this on Google Chrome and it is significantly faster.
I've had issues with firefox "stalling" lately. I'm wondering whether they're not fixing bugs for version 3 because firefox 4 is being released.
Google Chrome has rendering issues with some webpages.
Don't know about you all but a bullshark swimming down main street would certainly give me pause just how much water is there on these streets that a shark can swim down one?
i use firefox dh uses internet explorer. hospital uses internet explorere although the guys in IT personally use a combo of either chrome or firefox
I've come a long way baby and I use Chrome now. I miss some of the Firefox things but like hydethecookies said, it is so much faster and I don't have the attacks on Chrome that I had on Firefox. Besides that, it is much kinder on my eyes.
JIB that article about Beck being New Age Mormon or Oprah slanted was very interesting and maybe that is the reason I can't listen to him. I have truly tried so many times and I just would really get upset, for no apparent reason.
By the way, excellent information on Obama's advisor. Now I can tell you that when I clicked on the link, I could not believe the man's name that was advising BOO HOO to disconnect from Israel. He is the publisher and Web Site owner of Stratfor Intelligence that I have linked to many times here at the Cave. Now I understand why Stratfor very seldom ever posted any worthwhile info about Israel. I have been a subscriber for a long time and to learn that the man at the top of it is anti-Jewish gave me so much gastric upset that I cancelled all of my subscriptions and removed my name from their listings.
Now I understand why everytime I started to take advantage of their very attractive cut price on full subscription status, I couldn't get it to go through. Thank you Father!
Well, now to turn in and leave the world's future in the very capable hands of Abba, the Holy Spirit and our Savior. Good knowing they are in charge of this mess we call, Earth.
Grany
I use firefox, in part because google has enough of my computer already
Amen Grany!
Wayne, I love my Firefox and I can't wait for version 4 to be out of beta stage. That said, my secondary browser is now Chrome. Like Grany said, it looks great and is super fast. They even have the adblock extension.
The Promise of the Power
January 14 | Taken from a message by Adrian Rogers
The Holy Spirit of God was poured out upon the church on the Day of Pentecost, which was approximately fifty days after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. On that special day, the Holy Spirit was poured out upon the infant church.
God had a plan for His church. In essence, He was saying to His disciples, “You wait in Jerusalem until you are endued with power. Don’t try to go out and do something until you have the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Now, we don’t have to wait because Pentecost has happened. We don’t need to ask God to pour out His Spirit. It is done. Instead, we need to surrender and say, “Lord, You have sent Your Spirit and now I surrender myself to You. I am ready, willing, and able through Your Holy Spirit to do what You want me to do.”
When we look at what our Lord has commanded us to do, we realize we are totally inadequate. But we must remember His promise: “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8).
AMEN MAC,
Filled, overflowing and more than conquerers over all of the evil that Jesus put his name above! YIPPEE!
When you realize that you have been given that authority over evil it changes you into Popeye without the spinach! I am so thankful I don't have to eat the spinach!
I made some old fashion Hershey Cocoa Fudge with black walnuts and it is really good. I found my old recipe from by gone days and then I checked the box of Cocoa I have in the cupboard. ~~~~It is the very same one! I could have made the fudge for Christmas way back last month instead of doing all of the digging in old cookbooks. However, I found things in those old hand written books that really brought back all of my beloved family that now resides in heaven. There are some of that group that I wonder about their permanent residency but knowing the background of my grandparents (they were Quakers on my mother's paternal side, Reformed Dutch on my mother's maternal side and heathen on my daddy's mothers side. My grandpa Stevens was of French descent and was a very wonderful man. I know he had a love of God just by all of our conversations and his great love for all of us. Never ever heard him use profanity and it was so easy to love him.
But those recipes were a gold mine of memories and you know, it made me realize something. Love never dies, the vessel might be put in a safe place and out of sight but the love lives on and on. Thank you Abba Father for sharing your love in each and every one of us right here. That the love of you may transcend all calamities and evil that comes upon this world just at the mention of your Name.
Grany
Now, can you all come up with a petition to present to Abba to reverse THIS SITUATION ? I really am furious about the passive attitude that our government has shown toward the whole situation.
Nothing like letting a whole mountain fall on you before you realize there is some attention to detail needed. Maybe a goose would be able to move Boo Hoo in the right direction. I mean the kind of Goose that grabs the flesh and won't let go.
I know that being angry about it will not produce the results needed but in the meantime, I am steaming!
Grany, this last Friday I was listening to Iowa Public Radio, to a call-in show called "Talk of Iowa." Here's a description of the show:
A farmhouse kitchen brings back nostalgic memories to nearly everyone, even if they never experienced warm, homemade bread straight from the wood burning oven. A farm kitchen is a symbol of family, good food, simpler times, and a lifestyle that is almost extinct. This hour, we talk with Rob Artley, who with his father, Bob, wrote and illustrated "Memories of a Farm Kitchen." (Pelican Publishing).
This was an Iowa farm kitchen back in the 20's and 30's. The author talked about how his father was ecstatic when electrification came, not because of electric lights but because of refrigeration! You can either listen or download the show here.
In the second half of the show they had the person in charge of the Iowa State Fair cooking contests. After hearing all these stories about old recipes, I just had to phone in. I explained that I had inherited my Mom's red wooden recipe box, and what surprised me were the recipes that had obviously been used but which I had no memory of them ever being used. I mentioned in particular a recipe for "Potato Chip Cookies." The host turned and asked the guest if she had ever heard of something like that. The guest replied, "We have a category for it!"
<><
Grany, I love spinach. Which is a good thing because Alesia does as well. In fact she is right now in the kitchen concocting a spinach something that smells absolutely delicious!
Grany,
Funny you mention getting angry when watching GB's show. After reading that same article, it finally clicked. For months I would try to watch his show while cooking dinner, but the kids were always coming into the kitchen for this squabble or that need and I'd find myself getting angrier and angrier each time. It made no sense to me because I deal with their 5-year old behavior practically 24/7 without similar feelings overtaking me. But during that hour, I was just getting so upset. I finally just quit trying and would either keep the TV off or turn it to the praise station and listen to music while I cooked. Talk about a different atmosphere!
It's very conflicting because on one hand I appreciate his willingness to speak out and take a stand for things that need to be addressed. But on the other (more important) hand, I can't go along and pretend that I don't see things moving in a direction that is not God-honoring.
I told Bob last night that I'm off the fence now. And to hear that you were having the same reaction is confirmation that it was time.
I'm still in prayer for him and many others who have been given public platform opportunities and I believe God is pleased to act on those prayers to further His plan for redemption. But He's not going to share His glory with another and that's what I see attempting to unfold. It's the old sin of Eden, just packaged in the latest giftwrapping style.
Blessings,
Jen
I personally use Chrome as it is fast however, being from the IT world IE is the "most" compatible with everything, so I keep it installed as well.
I also have a prayer request for a sweet little girl in our little town. Met her several times this year and she is such a joy, though still a little weary of Santa (whom I play every year, given that God has blessed me with the beard and belly for it).
The doc's say that her cancer is progressing and the family is asking for the prayers of all on Sunday night at 8pm Central, please set your alarms and join me in thanking our Father for His healing touch. Here is a link for the local news story.

JEN,
It is easy to let the negative side of life take control of our life but God's word tells us in Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. 5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. 9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you."
Maybe we should send that passage to Glenn and encourage him to quit worrying and just practice getting as close to Abba as he can. But only through Jesus Christ's blood.
Guess I should have included the little girls name which is Sophie Sparks.
thanks to all
Mike
Praying for that little girl, Mike.
MIKE,
I didn't see your request but I am praying now. Will alert our prayer group at church here to keep Sophie Sparks lifted high in prayers. Joining all of you at 8 p.m CST.
That is a terrible thing to happen to a child and I know that the Stripes of Jesus Christ still heal.

I posted a note about Stratfor Intelligence Services and now I would like to give you THIS LINK to Jimmy DeYoung's Prophecy Today site.
Now, I truly believe these men have elevated their selves to the level of being expert World Leaders and they are a great example of being deceived. You know, Jesus told us that in the last days, the unbelieving would be given over to seducing spirits and deception. They would also believe a lie and spurn the truth. When you have all of the evidence of the Holy Scriptures telling all of us what will happen and what it all means, how can really INTELLIGENT MEN/WOMEN believe otherwise?
The real reason for all of the woes is rebellion. And the desire of Satan to stop the plans of God. He knows his time is just about up and things will only get worse. We will see the day that the USA will sever ties with Israel. No one knows the reason but it will happen because scriptures tell us so.
UPDATE ON LEBANON
Maybe the watermelon are ripe in Syria but there is something very fishy about the quietness of the news media regarding this mess in Lebanon.
That link is wrong
HERE IS THE ONE FROM DEBKA FILE
Sorry about that.
Yes, I am praying for the little girl, too.
I am now using chrome, too. After listening to you all about it, I downloaded it and so far so good.
I have not heard much about Lebanon or Sudan much in the news.
I need to brush up on the prophecized alignment of the nations, as things keep moving into place, bit by bit. Amazing to watch it all come together!
Lots going on at www.debka.com. I would tag it but I am so tired I can hardly wiggle. Getting ready for DJH's newest refrigerator being delivered tomorrow.
I will check in with you all later but just wanted to tell you Oklahoma and Arkansas seem to be having a contest of Earthquake activity. I was wondering if Jim can tell from the latitude if it is about the same for both states.
Gotta scoot.
Grany
Grany, I can only see one earthquake in OK -- a 3.5 that happened on Saturday. In the past week there have been 11 outside of/around Guy, AR -- the same place that's been shaking for the last few months. All of the ones around Guy have averaged 2.1 plus or minus 0.3 in magnitude. Both the OK and the AR earthquakes are effectively at the same latitude -- 35 degrees. The OK one was 0.3 degrees north of the AR earthquakes.
<><
Thanks Jim,
I don't know why that question ran across my mind but it does seem kinda odd. I asked my DJH if there could be a new fault line developing and he said he would have to study it out but not tonight.
We are both really worn to a frazzle from all of the unusual activity of getting DJH's very much wanted frig. I could care less what the blooming thing looks like because there are more important things to care for.
But whatever makes his little heart happy!
Thanks again Jim.
Here's something you all might find interesting:
...and the animals and birds will die from the breath of the sea...
It's supposedly written by Saint Nilus, who died around 430 AD, in Egypt. I say "supposedly" because there are a couple of different versions floating around the internet, and they all have problems that indicate they were written well after 430. Still, it's kinda scary how accurate it is.
You can read more about this prophecy and St. Nilus at these links:
Orthodoxwiki.org
The Prophecy of Saint Nilus
Biography of St. Nilus at Catholic Encyclopedia
<><
Just be careful with some of the reporting of these dying animals. I suspect that some accounts(not all)may be exaggerated.
Sound advice Hydeho. By the way, is the Coffee as good here as it was formerly in the Land of Oz? I have always wanted to visit Oz and DJH+GG5 waited too long to make the decision to go. Now it is a struggle to remain upright while walking in a semi-straight line. hehehe
There seems to be quite a big stir surrounding the leader of Hezbollah after Syria cut their support. Other intelligence services are stating as a matter of fact that the Rulers in Iran have already given their nod to eliminating the focal point of the latest hair brained idea of a coup in Israel's northern Kingdom to come. If that happens and the fuse to take over Lebanon is extinguished, where will that leave the "Great Eschatology Experts" blue print of Is. 17 and Ps. 83? I still think we are a little ahead of the Master's Plan.
And, what can we expect for the future? More guessing!
The coffee here is just as good, Grany.
Yep, interesting things are a happening and God is in control. I'd hate to be a prophecy writer trying to guess what God is going to do next. One thing's for sure though, this world is steadily heading towards chaos.
May He come soon!
you know we were at Barnes and Noble earlier this week and I was appalled to see what passes for teen reading these days. I would have said that the Percy Jackson series and Harry Potter would have been teen but no it's for 7-12 year olds and the stuff for teens was all goth/vampires etc and very very dark looking stuff indeed. wow.
we live in interesting times and things are heating up. briefly saw an link on facebook that SCOTUS has said the constitution is not valid? didn't really have time to do the research.
I often wake up in the morning and wonder just what country I have awakened in
Things are not what they seem (humor)
<><
Ha, ha, ha, mac had to google SCOTUS!
SCOTUS = BOO HOO!
He better have enough sense to leave MY / YOUR constitution alone or he will have a lot more to worry about than a total Republican take over in 2012.
Lord, I really do wish you would do something to keep these stupid remarks from perking up out of his lips. Loose lips sink ships and other things.
I have eaten wayyyyy too much fudge today and I am on a hyper roll. Have my kitchen already for tomorrow (only 3:25 p.m. here) and now I am starting on the sun room. Of course, the sun room is really cold right now but when I get finished swooshing around in it, the temp will be quite a bit higher.
Cannot stand to be still one minute and typing is being done at faster than normal speeds.
HELPPPPPP!
SCOTUS SHOULD BE CHANGED TO PREDATOR
Scotus is not BOO HOO. I just googled it to and it stands for Supreme Court of the United States. Predator is Potus. Sish! Getting old and hyperactive is very hard to deal with.
You're too funny, Grany!
SCOTUS, POTUS, SCHMOTUS...I've had enough of them. I'm finding that I'm paying less attention to news lately. I definitely need to do more Bible devotional reading!
May God give us all a reminder of His nearness!
Maranatha!!
Hey Jib...yea those books for teens are horrid. I have to research all of the books my 13 year old comes home with. One was about fallen angels and the nephilim. I found some great articles and you tube video on the subject for her to watch and that helped. She choose a good historical fiction one to read instead!
Diana
I read a lot on mythology when I was a kid so I have enjoyed reading the Percy Jackson series but they are "young adult" not teen. I found most of the covers for the teen books quite disturbing.
The Scarlet Pimpernel was a favorite at age 13-think Zorro for the French Revolution
has your daughter read Island of the blue Dolphins?
Hyde,
I had read how the Tasmanian Devils are suffering from a contagious mouth cancer that may cause the extinction of the species. As the parent of ADHD children (and being ADHD myself) I'm naturally interested in the well-being of the official mascot of ADHD life.
So if anyone else is interested in seeing examples of the cute, cuddly, and obviously accurately named Tasmanian Devil, click on this link for a collection of videos, including two Tasmanian Devils fighting over food, and what happens when a zoo employee reaches down to scratch one behind the ears. (That's the one with the title, "Tasmanian Devil Scream".)
And while we're talking about Un-usual Life Down Un-der, while looking for examples of a Kookaburra bird (one of my favorite science fiction programs once had this very wild and exotic animal call to show the characters were on a wild alien planet; turns out they used the call of a Kookaburra bird), I found this link to a collection of videos featuring the Lyre Bird. Be sure to watch the one titled "Lyrebird Imitating Man-made Sounds in Forest."
(There was also a link to an Australian kids show called "Hi5" which leads me to one daunting question:
Why do you hang corks from your hat?)
<><
To keep from popping my Cork, JIM.
My hat also has a cork headband that I love. This hat is one that I wear when DJH and I go hiking. Of course we do take a GPS with us so we can find our way back to the car. Have been times in the past that blowing my cork was a real relief to other mayhem.
Now, I have to tell you that my Chocolate Fudge Surge was met by the Tasmanian Devil around 2 a.m. and then he (SJH) went back to bed. hehehe
(SJH means Stern Jim Hubby) not Sweet Jim because he was still looking for his cork when he popped out of the bedroom door.
I guess I did make a bit of a ruckus before then but boy, did I ever get things done.
Diane,
Dr. Fruchtenbaum has an excellent study on the Nephilim titled "The Sons of God, by Arnold G. Fruchtenbaum, Th.M., Ph.D., Ariel Ministries. I have his book "Messianic Christology" and it is not an expensive one either. It is 166 pages and that includes ten Appendixes. His study is based squarely on scripture, Hebrew/Chaldean language and he walks you through the real story and not some Syfi stuff.
According to Dr. Frucht, the Sons of God were fallen Angels who took on the form of men. They were not giants but grotesque and strong beings that Satan used to ruin the blood line from Eve. The seed for Jesus had to be free from the corruption of Adam and Satan already realized that God was going to use a purified means of defeating the mess that the two Garden Dwellers had made with their sell out to him. Through the Blood of Mary and not Adam. Now that is too complicated for me today because I keep saying, 'how in the world could you keep Adam out of it?'.
I would send you my book but I use it so very much and so far, Dr. Frucht has not put it up for downloading on PDF.
Grany
Or you could just CLICK ON THIS and read it free of charge. It isn't the whole subject of Christology but it is the mainstay of his discussion on Nephs'. The topic is dated 2008 and is on my old blog site. But old doesn't mean outdated, does it?
Grany
I think Arnold E. Fruchtenbaums is about the 4th one down among the authors. I have no idea why I put him that far down the list.
Jim,
The kids LOVE the youtube videos of the lyre bird, esp. the one done by an outdoor sports store that takes clips of Richard Attenborough's program on them and does a mash-up with various other music including the theme song from Seinfeld. I'll see if I can find it. Quite hilarious to children and adults alike! The real footage of Lyre birds is amazing, though. There's one with them imitating machines/tools/workers' voices at a construction site near them in the zoo and you can't tell the difference between the bird and the real sounds.
As for the Tas devil, that was our mascot in high school since we were the "Golden Tide" and you can't really have a costume for that. They are an interesting creature!
About the Nephilium topic...Pastor Prince's TV braodcast is doing a series he taught on why terrible things happen in the world if God is loving and he takes it from the angle of how the terrible things are Satan's attempt to get to the seed before the seed got to him (referencing the prophesy in Genesis gives after Eve ate the fruit....He shall bruise your head and you shall bruise his heel....He takes it frame by frame to show how all the incidents of evil from the exit at the garden to the Resurrection have been Satan attempting to figure out who the "seed" was going to be....Able, Noah, Moses, etc. and cause destruction to eliminate him. God, of course, always intervened to preserve the line that would eventually lead to Jesus. It was quite interesting to see the thread going through the OT and into the NT with Jesus ultimately bruising Satan at the cross. Now all he can do it hope to defeat us and delay us long enough to cause us to give up and stop sharing the Good News with others. It was a very good message for those who can't get past God allowing evil in the world to get to the point of recognizing His love for us.
OK, off to run my hands under some warm water. It is FREEZING round these parts!
Blessings,
Jen

did you get the study guide that goes with it? I am re-reading it
The study guide can be downloaded on his site and is not expensive. I have it and boy, does it ever add to the study/reading of Footsteps. Highly recommend it.
I just read on Jimmy DeYoung's site about the extreme cold weather being forecast for the northern half of the USA. That includes a lot of you right here. Are you all OK and if not, what can we do to help you? My son lives in northern Missouri and he said it is so cold that not even the insulated outer wear is working very well. Besides being very nasty, it is also very dangerous to stay outside for any length of time without proper protection.
I have a EdenPure heater that I love and yet this winter hasn't been all that bad. It doesn't use much electricity but it does keep everything really nice and cozy. We placed ours (gift of my son) in the frontroom and it heated the whole house. In fact, the furnace didn't come on all day. Nice!!!!
You all stay warm, safe and drink lots of hot liquids (might add some chocolate for enjoyment).
Grany
Is this true?
ObamaCare Flatlines: ObamaCare Taxes Home Sales - Clobbers Middle-Class Americans
Beginning January 1, 2013, ObamaCare imposes a 3.8% Medicare tax on unearned income, including the sale of single family homes, townhouses, co-ops, condominiums, and even rental income.
In February 2010, 5.02 million homes were sold, according to the National Association of Realtors. On any given day, the sale of a house, townhome, condominium, co-op, or income from a rental property can push middle-income families over the $250,000 threshold and slam them with a new tax they can’t afford.
This new ObamaCare tax is the first time the government will apply a 3.8 percent tax on unearned income. This new tax on home sales and unearned income and other Medicare taxes raise taxes more than $210 billion to pay for ObamaCare. The National Association of Realtors called this new Medicare tax on unearned income “destructive” and “ill-advised” and warned it would hurt job creation.
Grany, No I don't have the study guide but that is a good suggestion. After I get through it I'll go back & check that out.
Grany, thanks for asking. It has been very cold in Minnesota, I woke up to -16 the other morning (that's 16 degrees below zero). But, it was colder still for my neighbors further up north, -46. Right now we're in a warm spell. It's about 15 above and we might see 30 in a few days! Whoohoo, get out the shorts and t-shirts!
Amazingly, when the temps get below zero and then climb up above zero, we all think, hey, this isn't so bad. We can do this! And then I remind those from elsewhere who wonder why I stay in this frozen tundra that there's a whole 'nother country north of us!
Oh, yes, Grany...I've thought about buying an EdenPure, but they are pricey and I'm wondering how expensive it will be to run it. Do you notice your electric bill going throught the roof?
Anne, One thing you can try is to get a heating pad that's designed for pets. One of my acquaintances on a permaculture board uses one of those, sized for a dog, on his chair. It keeps him warm and only uses 15 watts. Another thing he uses is a "lizard heater". These are the light bulbs that are used to keep lizards warm in their glass living space. Again, low wattage but keeps him warm.
If you're interested, I can post a link to a ceramic heater. It uses a candle or a small light bulb to heat up a ceramic form; the ceramic stores the heat and releases it slowly to keep you warm.

The Winning Strategy
To win any war, the three most necessary things to know are: (1) that you are at war, (2) who your enemy is, and (3) what weapons or strategies can defeat him.
You cannot win a war (1) if you simply sew peace banners on a battlefield, (2) if you fight civil wars against your allies, or (3) if you use the wrong weapons.
Here is a three point checklist for the culture wars.
And further on...
I don’t mean merely that Western civilization will die. That’s a piece of trivia. I mean eternal souls will die. Billions of Ramons and Vladamirs and Janes and Tiffanies will go to Hell. That’s what’s at stake in this war: not just whether America will become a banana republic, or whether we’ll forget Shakespeare, or even whether some nuclear terrorist will incinerate half of humanity, but whether our children and our children’s children will see God forever. That’s what’s at stake in “Hollywood versus America.” That’s why we must wake up and smell the rotting souls. Knowing we are at war is the first requirement for winning it.

Good article, Jim. I first learned of Peter Kreeft when I listened to "What Would Socrates Do?: The History of Moral Thought and Ethics" some years ago. Excellent.
I would be interested to know about the ceramic heater. That might be useful especially in my daughter's room. I use a heating pad just to heat up the bed before I get in, but I haven't heard of a heating pad for pets!
Anne, here's a link to Heatstick.com. There's information on how the unit and the holder are made. It normally uses jar candles (NO PILLAR CANDLES -- they melt and gum up the works). There are also links to let you buy the unit with an infrared heat bulb (no open flame) or with a quartz halogen bulb. Normally you wouldn't leave the candle unit unattended (i.e., don't sleep with it burning, like any candle); the infrared unit can be run at night and doubles as a night light. A YouTube video demonstrating the unit at an outdoors function can be found here.
As for the pet heating pad, doing a Google search on "dog heater" will pull up dozens of examples, most about $50. Include the quotes when searching or you'll pull up all the aquarium heaters, too.
You can find the "lizard lamp" here.
Keep in mind that this guy I mentioned is running a series of tests this winter to see how easily he can heat his place without using the house's heating system. Since he does most of his work at his computer desk (when he's not outside doing physical labor), he's focusing on that. He has the dog heating pad, a pair of lizard lamps, a blanket tacked around the desk (to keep heat under the desk around his legs) plus a heated keyboard and heated mouse. He lives up in Montana, and so far his setup works for him, although final numbers won't be in for another couple of months.
<><
Anne, I had a whole long response entered about energy-saving heat stuff. I posted it and it appeared, but when I reloaded the page it disappeared. So here's the link to that system I was talking about:

Re: heating methods...
We haven't had much luck keeping our heating blanket in working order the last few years so I finally gave up trying to replace it, but I really missed it the last week or so! The sheets felt like ice as I was crawling into bed! Bob caught me in my latest attempt to get warm a few nights ago...I plugged in the hair dryer and ran it over the sheets/pillow case for a few minutes before diving in. Wasn't the same as the heating blanket, but better than nothing! I also use the dryer to warm up blankets and winter coats (that have been hanging in the garage). The kids really appreciate that when they're heading out to school.
Like you, Anne, I keep telling myself it could be worse. My mom grew up in a house where the second floor had no heating ductwork, so the only heat they got was whatever drifted up the stairs. She well remembers waking up to a layer of ice on the inside of her bedroom window!
Grany,
East Central Illinois is not too bad on the temp scale right now. We do have alot more snow than usual though! I am so glad not to live in Minnesota though!
Lisa,
Love "Footsteps", great book and huge!

Anne, I am such a major cold wimp-I doubt I'd survive! I have goose bumps now in my house & the thermometer reads 71 degrees!
Pathetic & weak DNA I guess.

THIS IS WHAT OBAMA AND THE CHINESE are UP TO
This is an urgent message! Read this and spread the word! Subject: Foreign Trade Zones. This is unbelievable at first, but you will soon realize that there are several motives for the global communists to physically weave our United States territory together with communist China. Read On! Here’s what is going on!
Each and every one of our state governors has approved and allocated a certain amount of acres of their U.S. state land to be inhabited by Chinese communists –communists straight from China! They are to set up little towns and live here, supposedly for the purpose of producing Chinese products for sale in the U.S.A. The land the states are giving them for their little towns will be considered “foreign territory”!!! We are told that the laws of the state (in which these Chinese communists dwell) will apply to the communist Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ). Comment: If so, why are they allowed in here!??! Isn’t the whole set up unlawful??? There are 257 of these little communist towns to be built all over the United States. Go to this website and see the list of the states, and how many FTZ’s are to be erected in each and every state! Our nation is being peppered all over with these communist closed towns called “zones”! This insane brainstorm by Washington, D.C. officials was just recently discovered by alert citizens in the State of Idaho, where an FTZ is being built there, just south of Boise, Idaho, possibly 30,000 acres of Idaho is going to be used for that FTZ. Check this site quickly before it is removed:
Government Foreign Trade Zone List
cont...
When you get to this website, be prepared by having enough paper to print 40 pages, listing all the FTZ’s to be built over the whole United States! 257 of these FTZ’s! It is absolute insanity!! How gullible are we???
The excuse given for creating communist towns all over our nation is that these Chinese people will produce products for sale in the United States, and the FTZ will eliminate overseas shipping costs of the products they create! A bizarre excuse!!! Can’t we manufacture our own products anymore with American workers? How foolish are we to allow this??? Remember the hard-learned lesson taught to gullible people back in ancient times, when the Trojan Horse was built and they pulled it past their protective gates??? Do we Americans look THAT STUPID to the Chinese and to our Washington,D.C. leaders???
It will not mean jobs for Americans. All the help will be Chinese! Besides, it is to be classed as “foreign territory”, remember! You won’t know what is really going on inside the enclave. Is there any danger for Americans to allow this? What do you think?!!!
It is a known fact that China has been preparing for war against the United States! Many guns are pointed at us. Why should these FTZ’s be allowed??? What is the real reason?? Is it that Washington, D.C. needs foreign help to disarm American citizens (who have privately-owned firearms) so that the federal administration can comply with Public Law 87-297, signed into law by J.F. Kennedy for “general and complete disarmament of the United States”? It is a law continually financed by Washington, D.C. That’s the law that calls for us to have no more army, no more navy, and no more air force, all of which is to be transferred over on a permanent basis to the communist-dominated United Nations! That law also prohibits all firearms from being owned by American citizens!
Without firearms, there will be no more liberty, freedom, or justice in government. Guns are the main core of the check and balance system. Our nation’s founders realized that firearms in the possession of the people are the indispensible safeguard upon which all of the other rights in the “Bill of Rights” depend! That’s why the Second Amendment was meant to be honored, treasured, and preserved!
cont...
Some people are wondering if the American land in these FTZ’s is being given as collateral for the huge debt we owe to China? Some people are asking: “Does China own us and is our land collateral in case we don’t pay the debt?” China is allowing American businesses to get established in China as FTZ’s. Americans must build the structures in China, and they must employ all Chinese people to do the work in what is built there. After a short amount of years, the Americans must vacate, leave the buildings and let the Chinese keep the technology and the active operation as on-going. What this amounts to is transferring American technology and management to communist China.
FTZ’s are also known as SEZ’s (Special Economic Zones) Please relay this information to all your friends. Someone has to answer for this on state and federal levels! What a set-up for sabotage, espionage, and a study on how to take over the whole United States in a war! Because the newspapers and other media are controlled, they will not be reporting on this unless there is a great public outcry. Remember when being a communist was a punishable crime in the U.S.A. My, how we have changed! Complete reversal. Best to take this information to local public officials as well as all your contacts.
Please do not delay spreading this information. Check with Idaho Eagle Forum also for updates http://www.eagleforum.org/
(I don't know how true the FTZ China proposals are- but...?)
Here is the news front on the UFO deception:
World business leaders told flying saucers are real & extraterrestrials exist
January 25, 2011
Michael E. Salla, Ph.D.
Exopolitics Institute
Graphic summary of GCF discussions by Sunni Brown reveals prominence of ET contact and new energy systems.
At five thousand dollars a ticket, some business leaders got more than they bargained for when they attended the first day of the Global Competitiveness Forum (GCF) being held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. They were told flying saucers are real, and they better start thinking about the business implications of extraterrestrial life and technologies. Convened each year by the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority, the GCF brings together business and political leaders to discuss ways of promoting business competitiveness. For the first time at its annual conference, the GCF held a panel discussing UFOs and extraterrestrial life. Titled “Learning from Outer Space” the panel comprised five speakers who all endorsed the view that extraterrestrial life is real, and has many implications for the world as we know it.
The panel was held on January 23, and was a “main plenary” session meaning all GCF participants were able to attend and hear what the experts had to say about UFOs and extraterrestrial life.
Up to 1000 participants included business and political elites such as former British and Canadian Prime Ministers, Tony Blair and Jean Chretien; Jim Albaugh, President and CEO of Boeing; Andy Bird, chairman of Walt Disney International; Jared Cohen, Director of Google ideas, and many others.
The advice they got was that the issue of extraterrestrial life is real, and they better start paying attention to the business implications. Here’s how the GCF summarized the panel presentations on its website:

Lisa, I'm going to be doing some more reading on this, but here's a quote from the glossary section of the link (What is a Foreign-Trade Zone?
A foreign-trade zone is a designated location in the United States where companies can use special procedures that help encourage U.S. activity and value added – in competition with foreign alternatives – by allowing delayed or reduced duty payments on foreign merchandise, as well as other savings.
...
FTZ sites and facilities remain within the jurisdiction of local, state or federal governments or agencies.
So these FTZ sites WON'T be categorized as "foreign land" or anything like that.

The EdenPure heater didn't add much of anything to our electric usage and the expensive thing here is the natural gas. So we saved on the gas and besides that, instead of warm areas and feeling of drafts, the whole house was wonderfully comfortable. You can move these units around to be used in the areas where you are physically present. But they are not designed to just heat the bathroom, laundry room or other small areas. The thing about the EdenPure is the attention to detail and quality of materials used. We had a unit that was called radiant heater but it got certain things very warm and not the whole space. It doesn't take very long for the heat to generate enough comfort. Like bedrooms halls and such, there is a thermostat that keeps the level where you want it. My son lives in northern Missouri and it is very, very cold there. I was born and raised in Newton,Iowa and likewise as to the winters. So, we have family using the same heaters and they have great things to say about them to.
But as for the heating element like Jim says, you would stay warm as long as you were close to them but remember, heating pads can cause terrible burns to the body. So, other ideas could be very simple and not costly. Such as, at most sporting goods stores, like Walmart, Target, you know where they sell all the gear for outdoors recreation. There is a fantastic thing that we keep in our vehicles here. It is called an Emergency Blanket but it is what you think. This blanket is made of a material that resembles aluminum foil but it is a combination of materials that make it very durable. Used for keeping injured humans from going into shock or even after being in shock. You put it on and immediately you feel the warmth begin to start. When we were still doing a lot of lake patrolling in the 70s and 80s, we keep several in the cabin cruiser for such things. Pulling dripping wet people from really cold lake water would soon ruin most blankets but these things are water proof, won't sink and can be wiped off if they get dirty.
So, all of you that are being challenged right now, the good thing about these little jewels is they cost about $1.00 or $1.50 each and they weigh next to nothing. Fold up like a little package of Kleenex and last forever.
Candles, no my thing after almost burning a house down with them when we lived in Iowa. Plus, candles suck up oxygen and deposit......JIM I have no idea what they emit but I know you, and you know the answer, right?
I got a second unit of the EdenPure while it was on sale at Lowe's and it wasn't that bad. Not near as expensive as the medicines to ease the discomfort of a cold. Sleeping with my nose all covered up to keep it warm is no longer a ritual.

Jim C.,
Good Kreeft article!
I read Kreeft's book "Between Heaven and Hell" back around 1980 when I was in high school. Been a fan of his ever since.
Must have read it after 1982 since that's when it was published. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in a fun, creative, and solid defense of the Christian faith.
Between Heaven and Hell: A Dialog Somewhere Beyond Death with John F. Kennedy, C. S. Lewis & Aldous Huxley by Peter Kreeft
Another book by Kreeft that I really enjoyed (read it around the same time) was
The Best Things in Life
Methinks Google is playing up.
I’ve been reading up on the Atonement. Paul Henebury has written two fascinating articles on The Extent of the Atonement for the Conservative Theological Journal. They can be accessed at Galaxie Software. Is limited Atonement scriptural? Dr Henebury shows that it isn’t.
Unfortunately, to read the articles in full you have to subscribe which costs $50 per yr. If anyone is interested in these I can copy, paste and e-mail them.
I also came across this interesting link. Teaching tool on Calvinism. But it’s pretty heavy reading.
I've just worked out why comments disappear. Apparently Google have activated a spam detector and that's why some of your comments have vanished. I can see some of them in the spam bin. I'm going to try to switch the thing off if I can.
Well, it seems that the spam detection feature is mandatory. I'm just going to have to be a little more diligent in checking the spam folder.
Apparently the filter is sensitive to comments with blue links.
I heard an EXCELLENT teaching on the radio two days ago. It was the best sermon on GRACE that I think I've ever heard.
I was happy to find the podcast available for download for free. The teacher is Pastor Alistair Begg. I'm providing a link to the full series. The particular podcast in the series that I heard on the radio is titled Foundations, Part 2(ID 1608).
Very highly recommended!
Get It Right! (series of 13 teachings from the book of Titus) by Alistair Begg
Here's a quote from the sermon...
"The grace of God does not come to us to make us feel happy in the pigsty of our sin. The grace of God comes to take us out of the pigsty."
Pastor Begg argues that a lack of a Biblical understanding of grace causes Christians to be either drifters or strugglers.
Pastor Begg says that some ask "How can I live the Christian life?" We receive the anser in a word. GRACE.
Others ask "Why should I live this life?" We discover the answer in the same word. Because of his GRACE.
Jim, I've been listening to bits of it as well.
I forgot to mention, I remember the pigsty quote - very apt.
Where is everyone? Raptured?
Watching the events in Egypt, Hyde.
Jim G. - Alistair Begg is the head pastor at the church we go to!
I really enjoy him as a pastor, just not overly thrilled with the church - it's way too big for my personal taste & the music hurts me.
I listen to Alistair Begg quite often on the radio driving around. I'll have to check out that teaching.
Does anyone have insight on "The Message" Bible? I found out today my bible study leader is now reading it - but my discernment radar is beeping.
Personally, I wouldn't touch the thing w/a 10ft pole but not everyone is quite as sensitive to these things either. She's enjoying the "contemporary language" aspect of it.
Alesia,
"...& the music hurts me."
Do you mean it's too loud (as in it physically hurts your ears), or what?
Yep, the music is too loud. Because of her jaw operation, she's extra sensitive to loud music and noises.
Lisa
I bought that particular version because our pastor liked it so well. discovered much later that it is actually not a good interpretation to use-there are some issues with how he has interpreted some key doctrines although for the life of me I can't remember now what.
as to loud music-I am losing my hearing in one ear and am also much more susceptible to loud stuff as well. in fact people who are hard of hearing have a really difficult time with loud noises and may also experience pain
Hi everyone,
The pieces of the puzzle are being put into the picture, as relates to the Middle East and if you will all take the time to google Middle Eastern Maps, Tunsia you can see the even bigger picture. Just pay attention to who/what is being squeezed in the middle. Count down of Lebanon, Syria (who was siding with Hairi and not Hezbollah at first), Egypt, Tunsia, and now there are reports that Jordan is having some demonstrations taking place. Iran is the party that is being charged with the civil unrest in Iraq.
Al Qaeda isn't even being mentioned but Islam sure is. Religion of PEACE? Sure and I have a bridge here in Oklahoma I will sell anyone at all.
Have a great weekend but keep your eyes upward and listen for the shout.
Did anyone read Joel's The Twelfth Imam? I'm trying to remember in the Muslim Brotherhood was part of the plot.
Definitely some interesting developments in the ME. Not sure exactly what to make of it at the moment!
Interesting article in Debkafile this evening and something that hadn't even caught my attention. Israel silently watches the unfolding of two new fronts is a whole different slant on the Egypt demonstration.
Has anyone here considered that Isaiah 19 is actually getting close to fulfillment? Bill Silas has a different perspective of it on his blog.
Urgent Message from Egypt just NOW by Mariam Hussein who is there !!!
Two witnesses who happened to be at the Armon Hanatziv panoramic lookout over Mount Zion and the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, Israel at 1am managed to film what might be one of the most interesting UFO clips ever captured (see video below). The sighting took place only yesterday on the morning of the 28th of January.
The men notice the large ball shaped UFO suspended in the night sky and begin to film. At a little after one minute into the clip the UFO descends almost to ground level directly over the Temple Mount. The craft hovers there for a short while and then flickers and shoots upwards at an incredible speed, to the shock of the witnesses.UFO seen over Jerusalem

so it's official-we will have a semi permanent house guest for awhile. our best man, a long time friend of DH, has fallen on hard times and he is going to come live with us for awhile. I am the one that made the offer but I have mixed feelings about it I will admit. however I am seeing this as an opportunity to live our faith to some one who needs his faith restored or needs faith. pray for all of us since I am not entirely sure how this is going to work.

while the first half might be now, although I think Frucht feels it is during the Tribulation, the later half seems to me to point to a time at the end of the Tribulation or at the start of the Kingdom. We know that Israel will have no friends in the latter days before Ez 38 and if they as a nation, key word nation, are worshiping the one True God how could they turn their backs on Israel?
I think it depends on who takes over Egypt
sounds like vs 1-4 are happening based on what Lisa posted. Mubarak has not exactly been an angel for the people of Egypt. I do believe that Rosenberg addresses this in 12th Imam as well as the non fiction book Radicals, Reformers and Revolutionaries. I also want to say that it is addresses in the book Son of Hamas by the writer of that book-a man who would know.
A Timely article on Egypt in view of Is 19
Jib, praying for that situation.
Grany, this was an interesting point from that Debka article:
"1. Not a single protester or slogan-bearer summoned up the Israeli-Palestinian dispute as a factor in the most revolutionary transformations to overtake the region's countries in half a century. The Palestinians issue was totally absent from street demonstrations and Iran's takeover of Lebanon - giving the lie to the decades-long claim by Western decision- and opinion-makers that the Israel-Palestinian conflict was the root-cause of instability in the Arab and Muslim worlds and if it were not settled, those worlds would turn against the West. The Palestinians were plainly far from the minds of this week's Arab demonstrators."
Shalom, all! Isaiah 19:1-4 is interesting, to be sure, but it may have already been fulfilled in the Assyrian conquest of Egypt in 701 BC. If Isaiah 19 is prophecy yet to be fulfilled, then it's all mixed up. 1-4 may have been fulfilled. 5-16 could have been fulfilled at the same time as 1-4, or it could be fulfilled with the construction of the Aswan Dam, which destroyed the natural flow of the Nile as well as destroying the ecology of the river and the livelihoods of the people who lived there. Vs. 17 has been fulfilled; 18 was fulfilled from about 300BC until about 700AD with the Jewish colonies that existed in Egypt but which died out after the Muslim conquests. Isaiah 20, the next chapter, was fulfilled with the Assyrian conquest of 701 BC. So re: vs. 1-4, we may be seeing a second fulfillment or an echo of that fulfillment.
What's interesting is trying to tie together the previous two chapters with chapter 19. Is. 17, is the Oracle against Damascus, which was partially fulfilled with the Assyrian conquest of 732 BC: Damascus was destroyed, but not completely, and was built up and occupied again. Chapter 18 can describe Israel's attempts to form a partnership with Egypt to fight against the Assyrians. If this is the case, then Is. 19:11-16 is a description of what will happen if Israel trusts in any such partnership.
I've been tied up (some mornings, it just doesn't seem worth the effort to gnaw through the leather straps) and haven't posted here lately; I put some stuff together to answer some questions on CAF. I'll edit those and post here. Or maybe I'll just give up and start posting entries on my blog that I created years ago and never use.
<><
Oh, Jim, I hope you don't stop posting here!
JIM C.
You will not stop posting here, ya got dat! Now, that's my Chicago dialect changing character so I can be assertive.
Lots of stuff happening now and I still cannot understand why Israel is being so passive. Way back in the early 60's there was a common remark that I think might have some merit left. It goes like this: 'when Israel is real quiet, beware all ye enemies. No lion ever let's its enemies know it's intentions.'
But to say that Iran must be enjoying it's handiwork is an understatement.
JIB, will be praying and expecting great success just a ways down the road.
I think Isaiah 19 has both present and future prophecies regarding Egypt and even among the learned bible scholars there is great disagreements. But what is the Holy Spirit saying in regard to this latest uprising. And, on top of Egypt, there is widespread efforts to dispose present governments in the Middle East. Kinda like a Political Fly has entered the ointment.
Grany
The article on American Thinker was very insightful and it helps to have some behind the scenes info of history in the making.
When we were in Israel the group that joined us in Jerusalem, came from Egypt. They had spent 3 or 4 days there and all of them, with the exception of the 83 year old man from Arizona, were sick with allergic reactions to the dust. They called it Mummy Dust and were so glad to get out of that nation. But the thing that really caught my attention was they were all especially alarmed over the attitude of most native Egyptians towards them. Hostile is a nice word for what they told us about.
So, just as ammonia and bleach don't mix, neither do Believers in Jesus Christ and Muslims mix. Now I know that is not considered politically correct but you know what, I could care less. I have to love the sinner but I don't have to love their sin and if God sent the Israelites into the Promised Land to clean the place up and rid it of evil worship, what makes anyone think that accepting idol worshipers is right for all of us.
The big lie about political correctness is just a weapon to make everyone non confrontational. I refer to it as Political Pablum, or a better title would be Political Bablum. Babble, babble.
Same thing happened when the liberal elites took the word 'gay' out of our vocabulary for their own personal use.
OK, off of my soup (soap nope) box and trying to be a sweet, little old lady. I have failed on 3 of those descriptive words. You guess which ones.
HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE
Grany, I'll still post here. It's just that every time I try to post something longer than 12 lines Google deletes it. It will show up as posted, but when I refresh the page it's gone. So if I want to do an in-depth analysis of something, I either need to do it on CAF (which has a 6,000 character limit) or I should just bite the bullet and put it up there for the world to see.
<><
Jim, I only noticed the other day that Google was sending some legit posts into a spam folder I never even knew existed. It's not optional so I can't turn it off but I'm monitoring it constantly to make sure all comments go through.

Is UFO orb over Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem a context communication by ET?
This article contains a second, confirming video of the object. There's a video which combines the two videos so you can compare them side by side. The accompanying article, though, is juuuust a little too New-Agey for my tastes.

Jim C, That was a good one. Always interested to know what delusion the enemy is buying into. Microsoft Security Flaw Puts 900 Million Internet Users At Risk
I have Vista. I went to the fix page and could only understand one little bit. So, I changed my security level to high and then tried to post this. Couldn't. So, I lowered the setting to medium and hope this works.
Anne, do what a lot of us have already done. Switch to either Firefox or Google Chrome.
I'm sticking with Firefox because there are several add-ons that I use frequently; I'll wait until after version 4 (which is in beta right now) gets released before deciding whether to switch to Chrome or not.
This security problem is ONLY a problem if you use Internet Exploder as your web browser.

Bill Clinton President of the World really and how interesting
"Since President Clinton left office in January 2001, he’s taken on a new and very successful role as an international humanitarian—his Clinton Global Initiative, Clinton Health Access Initiative, the William J. Clinton Foundation and countless other worthy efforts have made him a hero to peoples across the globe." if you haven't looked at the Clinton Global initiative website it is very interesting. He tasks peoples, groups, corporations, nations etc with coming up with a solution to a problem and then solving the problem within a certain time frame. if they don't they don't get invited back and the meetings are held in conjunction with the UN opening meetings in October.
would be interesting to know an extensive breakdown of his ethnic background
Jim, I'll give firefox another chance. Actually, I do use it now and then, just not as much as IE. Maybe I'll come to like it.
Are you saying that this problem will not affect my Outlook?
Anne, I'm not going to say that, simply because Micro$oft (at least in the past) tried to join Outlook and IE at the hip. Then again, the actual warning from MS doesn't say anything about Outlook.
The problem is with something called MIME HTML, or MHTML. This is a way of combining resources (pictures, audio files, etc.) into one web page, called an archive web page. The security problem is listed as being an issue not with different versions of IE but different versions of Windows. This means that the problem is with one of the support files (a DLL) that comes with Windows that is used to render an MHTML file.
Given this, then anything that can view an MHTML file is vulnerable. I can't find any info on whether or not Outlook can view these files, so to be on the safe side I would have to say yes, Outlook may be affected. (I.e., using Outlook without applying the fix may still leave you vulnerable.)
When I went to the linked page for the fix, I found there are two files, one that fixes the problem by locking out MHTML files, and another that undoes the fix so you can view MHTML files that you've saved. Unless you're using MHTML files regularly to archive your web pages, I'd just go to the site and apply the fix.
