J. C. Ryle's book "Holiness" had a very significant influence on my back in college days. While I did not believe that one could lose their salvation, The question remains of how one could ever enjoy the holiness of heaven when they so carelessly ignore it here on earth. What would we talk about if our conversation here is filled with memories of unholy movies and music, sports and complaints. If our desires are filled with the mundane pursuits of comfort and security? Will we feel out of place, like a fish out of water?

Wayne, I have Ryle's "Are You Ready For The End Time?" He doesn't get into eschatological debates but he expected Christ's return preceeded by Israel's reformation as a nation based on his studies. His chapters "Watch" and "Occupy Till I Come" are inspiring.

I keep wondering how those who profess to be Christians and yet espouse things which are in direct contradiction of scripture can actually be saved. I have decided it is also a lack of transformation of character and lack of having the mind of Christ, both of which suggests that either they are unsaved or grossly under discipled.

There was so much info packed into the last few days of posts that I will have to go back and open a number of links to read everything.
BTW, the USGS site is up to 321 earthquakes this morning. I don't think I've ever seen it that high, though I've only been watching for about a year.
“Seal the Deal” in Copenhagen. Well, they certainly describe the 2-7 seals of Revelation. Perhaps this "global climate" organization is part of the 1st seal w/the horseman riding out conquering & to conquer.
All the events described are already prophesied to happen in God's word. So instead of looking to Him for direction-these people are wheeling & dealing amongst themselves. Creating this era of fear so that the big companies can profit off all the international laws forcing "green" products upon the societies of the world. Of course they no longer want the U.S. as the leader & bully in their lives but they are sure looking to the U.S. to put up the additional cash for all their schemes. As if the U.S. is guilty of creating the big % of global "climate change" so we need to make up for now by paying them off. Obama will probably go for it.
I remember in the Interior Design business-13 yrs ago the "green" craze started w/interior products. They held large seminars explaining this green philosophy & presenting the products available to use in design. The problem was that the cost was so much higher than the common choices it was difficult to convince people to spend the extra $$ unless they were "save the planet" types themselves. This was before Al Gore & all the global hysteria. Also, Fung Shui was very popular & they were trying to foister that method of design as well.
I was in my backslid state back then but I very resistant to going down the Fung Shui road. I used to call it "hocus pocus" instead because I knew it came from Buddhism & pagan religious sources.
If someone was interested in Fung Shui I would just refer them to someone else. I met some very bizarre individuals who were into that stuff. In fact one of my interns ended up specializing in it. She came out to my house w/an energy meter & was showing me where the bad radioactive waves were coming out of my appliances & where the bad energy sources were located in our rooms. If I hang some crystals here & moved some furniture around my life would improve dramatically.
That's about as bad as a Catholic friend of mine that gave me one of those saint statues you bury in the ground to sell your home. She was sure if I did this our home would sell. Well-I really didn't believe it & didn't feel good about doing it either-but we got so desperate at one point I ended up burying the dang thing.
That is one of the dumbest things I did-really. Well-it did not sell our house (probably had the opposite reaction) & now I'm thinking if the ground gets wet enough- I'm going to go out there w/a shovel & dig around the area so I can get that thing out of here.
I buried an idol in the ground! That is so unlike me.

Lisa, Shalom! What you buried was a statue of St. Joseph, foster-father of Jesus. Since he is considered to be a protector of the family, some people think that you can use statues of him to help sell your home. Speaking as a Catholic, I have to agree with you: you participated in idolatry. To just complete a ritual and believe that the ritual itself will accomplish a goal is superstitious, since it presumes that the ritual is more powerful that G_D's will. This includes prayers to G_D that are said without thought or belief, or treating the prayer as some magical incantation to appease G_D.
The practice of burying a statue of St. Joseph at the edge of your property came about as a way to claim (or re-claim) your property for G_D. After completing prayers to G_D to bless and re-claim this land, burying a blessed object at the entrance to the property forms a spiritual boundary to any demons or evil spirits that may try to approach the house. The blessed object is usually a statue of St. Joseph in honor of his position as protector of the Holy Family, although medals of St. Benedict are frequently used, also.
The problem is when, as mentioned above, it stops being a devotional and becomes magic.
Here's a question, though: If you use an idol and it doesn't work, does that make it an idle idol?

will be praying for you. from personal experience I know that if the right job hasn't come along in that you've been hired it's because it hasn't opened up yet. when I went to change jobs there was one that just seemed perfect but I didn't get it. then there were 2 more about 18 months later. one again seemed perfect-hubby had found a job from one of the board members, we found a house that was very close to being a dream house as regards the property etc. they offered me the job and then retracted it based on gender (long story). the other job was ok also but no firm offer although I did end up getting that job and it has for the most part been quite wonderful. the house and land we have here are better than I thought to ask for. this job did not open up until nearly 18 months or so after we started looking and after the initial interview did not result in a job. Keep the faith-God does have a job for you and it will be better than you might have asked for.

1-a friend has a very bad break near knee that went unnoticed by the ER and since she was no way restricted she has made the break much much worse. to compound the matter her husband just had his second major surgery in 3 months. they are not believers. pray for Karen and Mike.
2- my mom is facing major neck surgery. she is a little leary about it for a lot of reasons. it will be a long surgery and likely she will need 2 different surgeons to do the surgery. she has a severe problem with disc, nerves and tangled blood vessels which have given her chronic pain for some time (years) but the doctor didn't bother to work it up until recently. I think in part she is worried about what my dad could potentially do-he has threatened suicide due to his own chronic pain. I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions. my folks are both believers. I think there is a good chance that my dad is bipolar and he is untreated because he doesn't think he has a problem. I hate being 2000 miles away at times.

A: No. The content was provided by MoveOn.org and not by the actors. It was run on MSNBC. There were some major players involved in releasing this video.

A: No. I'm not suggesting that there is some large conspiracy among all Democrats. I am merely pointing out one particular strategy that the Liberal owned media uses as damage control quite often. If you can label conservatives as racists then you can delegitimize any rational argument they can make to anyone who might be on the fence regarding their political beliefs. If you can convince a middle class population that making above a certain threshold of money is evil, you can buy votes from those people to steal that money from wealthy. It's a very simple strategy that's used every day (even in this video)... not a conspiracy theory... and it works.

A: The day you can explain to me how "Trickle-Up" economics works I will mail you my economics degree (frame included). The fact is, stealing money from rich people and giving it to poor people doesn't build an economy. It actually cuts the throat of the poor. Rich people don't sleep on piles of their money at night. They open small businesses and hire employees. They put their money into banks that make home / car / investment loans to people like you and me. The government does not create money, private enterprise does. I suggest you wiki the "money multiplier effect" and the "standard government multiplier" to understand the creation of money a little better. You might look around and see companies like McDonalds and think that Big Business rules the world... but you would be overlooking the fact that McDonalds is composed of 31,000 small businesses owned and operated by independent franchises (small business owners) that also employ 1.5 million people. The McDonalds corporation merely provides the food and and a proven successful business model for its investors to follow. Look around... there's a lot more small business than you think. Chances are, you either own one or work for one.

That's when literally "All Nations" will come-not a few thousand scattered Christians from around the world. I'm almost offended by the brazen proclamation that "they're" fulfilling this prophecy. Even if they think it's only some sort of partial fulfillment.
Now I'm feeling mad. I better calm down as I'm sure this is only the beginning of the stuff we're about to witness coming from "Christianity." If I let this get to me I'll probably end up mad 24/7 as time marches on.

This was one of Patrick Swayze's first films. I remember on the 20th anniversary of the film reading that he didn't think it would be that big of a film, but all this time later he still had people coming up to him and saying "Wolverines!"

Regarding the ratification process and when the Treaty of Lisbon would take effect (or "enter into force") a Wikipedia article on the treaty says: The Treaty of Lisbon must be ratified by all Member States, if it is to enter into force. This did not happen as scheduled by the end of 2008. If ratified, the Treaty would come into force on the first day of the month following the deposit of the last ratification.
I wonder if whoever is the EU President at the time will have the responsibility to confirm the treaty (isn't this a covenant) with many for one 'seven.'
I'm not sure if the Treaty of Lisbon has any 7 year timetable. It does look like it could be the basis for a revived Roman Empire as prophesied by Daniel.
I do realize many people before me have long been watching the EU and expect it will become the revived Roman Empire.

Consider this, the Revised Roman Empire, consists of 2 legs, the western leg and the eastern leg.
The Lisbon Treaty is for the western leg which will for all intents and purpose mold those participants into one sovereign unity, acting as one nation.
The treaty that will be confirmed that starts the beginning of the 7 year tribulation period is a treaty with Israel and many, not just the Revised Roman Empire.

The word "Lucifer" is only used once in the English translation of the Bible in Isaiah 14:12- and from what I'm reading it's a mis-translation. The hebrew word is "heylel" was translated into Latin as "lucifer".
The issue is that the origional hebrew word "heylel" does not have any definations as "light bearer" so should not have been translated into Latin as "Lucifer".
The only person who's referred as a "light bearer" in the Bible is Jesus. Now you can see how one may be convinced that Lucifer & Jesus as "light bearers" could be referring to one & the same. (It's a stretch but some people are really deceived into this.)
5. The word "Lucifer" comes from 2 Latin words:
Lux (=light) + ferous (=to bear or carry). Thus the name "Lucifer" means:Light-bearer or Light-bringer.

The sand performance starts with the original radio announcement on June 22, 1941 German army invading the Soviet Union. Followed by very popular songs written about the WWII. In short, it’s a story about a woman that loses her loved one in that war, but their child is a memory of their love. The last words are: “You are always near me”.
We have a dear friend who lost family in that war. He immigrated from the former Soviet Ukraine. He is working feverishly outside the political spectrum to make sure it doesn't happen here.

Lisa, Shalom! The Latin origins of the name "Lucifer" come from old Church traditions, based on some of the old Hebrew texts that didn't make it into the canon. "Lucifer" gets his name from a belief that he was the first angel G_D created and thus was the "bringer of light" to the other angels. It's also a historical reference to some of the old kings (in Isaiah?) who boasted of being god-kings, the ones who would bring daylight to the world every morning, etc. The titles they chose reflected this belief, often including titles such as sun-king; bringer of light, etc.

That's the problem. In our culture, our names are usually just sounds that have no meaning to us. My name is James; my nickname (or intimate name) is Jim -- how you get from "James" to "Jim" is something I've often wondered about. But in English, "James" is just a sound -- it doesn't mean anything except that it is a man's name. You can find that it is related to the Hebrew word for "usurper", which is interesting historically, but the name itself doesn't mean anything to a modern English speaker. This word literally mean praise. You would have noticed Christians and Jews saying "hallelujah". Which means praise the lord. Usually this word is also used in context of meat. Halal meat is the one which while slaughtering, the lord was praised. As Hebrew and Arabic are sister languages, this word in Arabic is "halal which refers to anything that is permissible under Islam.

The second source (the only one you link to) belongs to Richard Salbato, owner of Unity Publishing. Think of him as the Ron Paul of the Catholic world: He may come across as a little extreme sometimes, but in the back of your head there's a little voice going, "You know, he has a point..."
The first and the third sources you cited belong to The Fatima Network. If Richard Salbato is Ron Paul, The Fatima Network are the people who think the John Birch Society is too soft on communism. In the second article, Mr. Salbato refers to the Pius X Society as "heretical." (I agree with him.) The Fatima Network is not heretical, but just barely. You'll notice that the third article cites "The Portugal News" (footnote 2), which Mr. Salbato has pointed out it is a small English-language newspaper of dubious validity.
I would trust Mr. Salbato's interpretation of events over anything published by The Fatima Network. While The Fatima Network has published some wonderful devotional material over the years, it's become apparent that they have some sort of ax to grind with the people administering the shrine. They appear to have developed into the sort of people who could read about an agreement for the Vatican to act as an NGO and distribute several million tons of rice to the poor in India, and weave that into a conspiracy because the rice was coming from Communist China.
The connection between Freemasonry and ecumenism that was cited in the third source (footnote 4) is not a secret (at least not in Catholic circles). In America, Masonry is usually considered to be a (mostly) harmless group of philanthropic clubs. In the rest of the world, however, the conflict between Freemasonry and Catholic Christianity is very real. Catholics are forbidden to join any Masonic group for two main reasons: First, the groups, by teaching about "The Great Architect" or "The Great Builder", have established a new religion, one that is incompatible with Christianity. It is this incompatibility that is the second main reason Catholics can't be Masons: This new religion teaches the heresy of pluralism, i.e., all religions are equally valid; the saving sacrifice of Christ on the cross is not necessary for salvation; and the performance of secret rites and rituals to gain secret knowledge. This conflict between Freemasonry and Christianity is an especially sore point in places like Fatima. As the movie "13 Days" shows, at the time of the apparitions Portugal was run by a dictatorship of people who just happened to be Masons. While they didn't announce that they were going to convert everyone to Masonry, this cabal was dedicated to Masonic ideals and just as dedicated to freeing the people of any "superstitions". Openly practicing your faith (ALL religions, not just Catholicism) was forbidden, as was teaching your faith to your children. Violators were fined and imprisoned. The group had been in power for seven years when the apparitions occurred. After the apparitions, people began openly practicing their faith again and the cabal collapsed in three years. Just as the Communists blamed the Church and the Pope for the fall of Communism in Poland, the Masons blamed the Church and Fatima in particular for their being ousted from power. That's why the original shrine in Fatima was bombed (by people who just happened to be Masons) in 1922.
To answer your last question, yes, there is a schism coming between the "faithful remnant" and those who are trying to turn Catholicism (and by extension, all Christianity) into something it is not. It is happening through the heresy of pluralism, attempting to change the meaning of Scripture so that what was evil is now considered good (Abortion as a Sacrament, etc.) and what was good is now considered evil (Christians are intolerant.)

Lisa, Shalom! As chance and the Holy Spirit would have it, Mark Mallett's latest blog entry touches on the very question you asked, about a split coming in the Catholic Church. The entry is called Wormwood; the name by which the Greeks called wormwood, absinthion, means "undrinkable." Jesus is the Living Water, yet the wormwood in the church makes that water undrinkable.
I also wrote to Mark to correct him on something. He had made a statement that it's possible that a comet would have organic compounds in its tail, compounds that if the Earth passed through the tail of the comet the organic compounds would turn the water to blood, etc. He had proposed that maybe the comet would affect the sun in such a way as to cause it to scorch the earth (fourth bowl). I wrote to correct him, telling him that a comet would have as much chance of affecting the sun's gravity as a dust mite would have of pushing you out of bed while you sleep. While I was writing that, though, another thought came to me.
The first bowl gives those who received the mark of the beast "festering and ugly sores". ONLY those with the mark would get the sores. Well, I've been reading all this paranoid stuff about how the gov'mint is building all these underground prisons to hold people during the Tribulation. Now, if in fact a comet comes by with organics in its tail AND the Earth passes through the tail of the comet AND these organics turn the seas to blood, it's very likely that these same organics will interact with the Earth's ozone layer, reducing the amount of protective ozone covering the Earth. This means that a lot more UV radiation (maybe even some hard radiation) will be hitting the earth, making it warmer, scorching the fields, and giving anyone standing out in the sunshine large cases of skin cancer. If that is the case, then the people who did NOT receive the mark of the beast, who are in the underground prisons, WON'T get skin cancer. When you're dealing with an increase in solar radiation, nothing is better than 10 or 15 feet of earth between you and the sun!
It's like in the book "The Hiding Place" by Corrie ten Boom. When she and her sister are put into the prison barracks, they find the place infested with lice. Her sister said, "Praise God for the lice!" Corrie thought her sister was crazy, but her sister was right. Because of the lice, the guards came into the barracks only when necessary. This allowed the prisoners to set up bible studies and prayer groups without interference from the guards.

Many Christians have made the commitment to be more like Jesus—but where do you start? The apostle Paul told the Philippian believers, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus (Philippians 2:5, KJV). And that's just where the hymn "May the Mind of Christ My Savior" begins. But does the mind of Christ become part of us? Kate Wilkinson directs us to Colossians 3:16 for the answer: "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly." In the third stanza Wilkinson returns to Philippians for this promise: "And the peace of God…will guard your hearts and your minds" (Philippians 4:7). And so the song builds.
Christian growth is not instantaneous but gradual. It flows naturally from obeying God's Word. Thomas à Kempis, who wrote the Christian classic The Imitation of Christ, said, "One thing that draws back many from spiritual progress is the fear of the difficulty of the labor of the combat." Don't give up what you have started.

Since I'm not the PC type so their comments don't upset me.
In fact I see where they are coming from the perspective has great credibility as far as I'm concerned.
This is how I see it.
If you are a Catholic & actually believe that what the Pope is speaking for Christ-both past & present-then wouldn't you adhere to what they speak forth with 100% obedience?
Not- take what they say & run it though your own personal perspective & just ignore & filter out what you don't like about the message. Doing that is no different than creating your own "American Jesus."
God is the same-He does not change. So "if" He is speaking through the Pope-then that's it-it's final. (Hopefully the Pope’s messages have not been morphing into something new.)
So from what I read-some of the former Popes said that the choice is the Catholic Church or Hell. Even the Protestants were grouped together w/the Hindu's & Muslims.
That makes total sense to me. I can accept it. So either the Pope/Popes are correct & speaking for God or they are incorrect and speaking from their own heart/hearts.
So I identify with Richard Salbato's & John Vennari’s perspective on the matter. I take the Bible as seriously as they take the words of the Catholic doctrine.
Either the Catholic leaders are speaking truth & you’re going to believe & follow the traditional church doctrine or you're deceiving yourself by doing it your own way.
These other "rogue" Catholics are ignoring the foundational tradition & doctrine of the church & twisting them to suit their own current desires. If the Pope is the “Vicar of Christ” you either believe it or you don’t.
Believing is accepting something as truth & following in obedience- faith believes in truth without material evidence.

Interesting viewpoint on the sores. My initial thought was that whatever is used to "mark" the people who refuse to follow the Anti-Christ will somehow create a biological reaction within the unbeliever's body & make them sick.
But the solar/wormwood scenario is interesting too.
Some have even speculated a step further that there may be some sort of "serpent seed" DNA molecule
that promises eternal life or who knows what along w/just the buying & selling part of it. But-the Bible only mentions the "buying & selling" of course in relation to the mark.
There may be more that meets the eye between "the seed of the serpent" & "the seed of the woman" though.

Shalom, all! History Channel, on their "Nostradamus Effect" series, is talking about Newton's biblical research. VERY unsatisfying. They keep describing it as "obsession" and making him sound like a crackpot. NOTHING about his role as a geometer, only a brief mention of the Temple in Jerusalem.
Of course, what should I expect from History Channel?
(It also bugs me that when they talk about how Newton hid his work for fear of imprisonment, etc. for heresy, they don't bother mentioning that it was the ANGLICAN Church he was afraid of, not the CATHOLIC Church!)

I just returned from listening to Chuck Missler for an hour.
He was speaking of our "Citizenship in Heaven" & the "Bema Seat of Christ" for the most part.
That part was good-but then he got on the Eternal Security kick & drummed that into everybody about "carnal" Christians & the "loss of rewards".
What was disappointing/or not- was that what he presents as "fact" in the mind of those who do not hold his view. He believes Christians who hold the view that they are able to "fall away" after quenching/grieving the spirit to the point of becoming reprobate & given over to their own wills & sinful nature- are so scared about loosing their own salvation that they are of little effect for the kingdom of God.
That is such a skewed & false view of how I (and other ministers I know of) that his opinion on that point holds zero credibility to me. First of all I'm not scared to loose my salvation in any fashion. 2nd of all- It has a positive effect since I'm more concerned w/people "claiming Christ" w/zero fruit to seek Him & place God as their 1st love.
I'm really not that overly concerned w/Christians "loosing their rewards" as I am with being "born again" in the 1st place. That in turn inspires me to reach out & witness & encourage people. The exact opposite of what he claims the result of the belief is.
Then he presents a big emphasis on most of the Christians in heaven crying @ the Bema Seat after they find out that they have no rewards because they didn't live in the Spirit & were saved but living a carnal life.
So he was encouraging the congregation to place their heart in the Kingdom of Heaven & think more about living in the Spirit & gaining heavenly rewards. Crowns, Position, etc...
He gave no examples of how people who profess Christianity not to mention Ministers of God-can go back to a life of debauchery and still be saved. There was no explanation & no details of that subject. I know what the Bible says about those who practice such things and it says that they go into a place of unquenchable fire. It doesn't say Christians have a free pass either.
I was really waiting for him to explain that one away but he glossed over it entirely.
Chuck Missler is extremely intelligent but if he's going to try and convince me of something then I would expect a better job in doing so.
I guess that's what I found disappointing. I saw him avoiding the tough questions.
As far as the "rewards" part goes-I did get a better understanding as I do believe all he mentioned was true to that those who are truly saved.
Now what you may find worthwhile is that he sincerely feels that in not to far in the distant future the Church will have to go underground in the U.S. I think we can all see that happening on the horizon if things continue as they are w/the U.N. & the socialist policies currently pushing to become implemented.
He gave a list of things which if we do in the Spirit would be considered "rewardable". He was glad to note that one of the items would become available to us fairly soon & that we could be rewarded for.
Which was-persecution.
I think we'll eventually have a fuller understanding what Apostasy & falling away really entails which will make matters of eternal security clearer.
(Boy-he sure got me all charged up now because I'm eternally secure not matter what & of all the rewards I'm planning to achieve since I don't fall under the category of a carnal Christian-Not. Just can't wait for the persecution to start-that will rack them up fast!-LOL)

Are you aware that our Pastor is absolutely a believer in Eternal Security?
I know of no Calvary Chapel Pastor who does not believe the same. But, I do not know all of them.
It might be good for you to make an appointment with Pastor Ray to discuss your concerns. That would be a much better place to vent than on a public blog.

I don't know Pastor Ray's exact view on eternal security-whether it is exactly the same as Chuck Misslers or not.
I do realize that many people here agree w/Missler's eternal security view & that doesn't bother me in the least-or I wouldn't have brought it up.
So far I have not heard Pastor Ray say anything about carnal Christians only loosing rewards in heaven. What I recall him stressing is justification, ongoing sanctification and continuing a life "in Christ".
Nor do I feel any need to have a personal meeting with Pastor Ray. I like him regardless - even if his eternal security view happens to be a differing doctoral position. (As with many here as well.)
I'm sure he has a short read on the subject so I'll take a look for that @ the bookstore.
If anything ever arises which which troubles my spirit in regards to Pastor Ray's teachings I'll certainly make an appointment to speak with him. So far nothing has come up. The subjects I come across that may be of interest I email to him & he always takes the time to respond.
Either I'm following the leading the Holy Spirit has shown me to be truth or I'm following man's opinions over them. I'm not going to fall in line w/Chuck Missler's view of eternal security because of "Chuck Missler's" well respected reputation.
I agree with most of what I've heard him preach & he also happens to be one of my favorites because he also tackles & addresses the "UFO/Alien/Nephilim" subject matter among other unusual subjects-DNA/Bible Codes,etc...
Now If the opportunity presented it's self to speak to/with Chuck Missler I would certainly be open to that. In fact if it was a smaller group & it was appropriate to speak up I would have asked him
to back up his assumptions & provide more information on his position of eternal security & real life examples of those who had fallen away from the faith once held.
And for the record- not all Calvary Chapel pastors hold the same Missler carnal "rewards" eternal security view. If you listen to the local Christian Calvary radio station (FM 88.9?) you'll hear many pastors w/the same view of eternal security as I hold. In fact I was just listening to a pastor this morning-warning his listeners that if they are not progressing in the faith (fruits of the spirit & sanctification) over the course of time in an upward direction (including dips & valleys) then they may want to reexamine their lives to see if they are even saved in the 1st place.
The minute we can't express and discuss our experiences and views w/one another here w/o fear of reprisal over a Pastor's doctoral stance (No matter who it is) we are in dire straights.
We might as well appreciate the opportunity & time we have now to discuss & share w/one another because if Missler is correct-it won't be long before the freedom to communicate religious truths/differences will be over.

Most people could never fathom a Jewish rabbi demanding that the government keep observant Jews off the Temple Mount. However, remember that you are dealing with a Kabbalistic Jewish Rabbi. A few things I've learned as I've had conversations with other Christians regarding the doctrine of perseverance:
1.) There a very committed, sincere, mature, and fruitful believers on both sides of the doctrinal debate.
2.) People on either side often misunderstand or misrepresent what the other side is saying.
3.) I have come to the conclusion that the major point of disagreement comes down to the nature of saving faith. What constitutes saving faith? How do we know we have it? Where does it come from? Is true faith something that God gives to only the "elect" or is it something that God asks of us (like asking us to obey Him or surrender to Him)?
4.) Both sides believe that we are saved by grace. The difference is in how each side views faith. One side appears to believe that any faith a person has must come from God or else it is a "work" of man. The other side does not consider "faith" a type of "work" and thus has no problem with the responsibility lying with man to place his faith in God.
5.) Both sides affirm that God takes the initiative in the process. We love Him because He first loved us. We are drawn to Him by His Holy Spirit. He reveals truth to us. He convicts us of our sin. He reveals Himself to us.

Congress Approves Hate Crimes Bill
Congress voted Thursday to extend current hate crimes protection to homosexuals-- putting the measure attached to a must-pass military spending bill one step closer to becoming law.
Bishop's Ax Falls on Obama. And on the Vatican Curia
In a bombshell article published in Rome, the archbishop of Denver, Charles J. Chaput, criticizes the American president and the churchmen who praise him. To give you some context, one of the rules governing the Catholic Church is something called "the Collegiality of Bishops." Basically it says that ALL bishops (including the Bishop of Rome, aka the Pope) all have equal authority; and what one declares true in his diocese is held true in all the other dioceses. Normally this rule is just applied to priests, etc. so that if a priest is forbidden to offer the Mass by his own bishop, he cannot go to another diocese to get around that prohibition. However, for a bishop to be saying these things, directed at his fellow bishops in the Vatican ... this will certainly be getting people talking in the Vatican. (In the actual text, linked below, he gets around collegiality by saying that he's only speaking for himself. In context, though, this is like your kid saying that he would never, EVER, even CONSIDER the possibility that he might sneak out of the house at night to go to a party.)

This is commentary on a message purportedly received from Mary earlier this month. I'm including it because it has an excellent meditation comparing our situation today to that of the prince in C.S. Lewis' "The Silver Chair". Like Puddleglum we need to be made painfully aware of reality, so that we can break the spell and be freed from the enchantment that leads to death. “Kneel down beneath the Cross and look at my Son.” On our knees we will be uncomfortable enough to stay awake, and gazing on the Cross we will see the consequences of our sins, and we will wake up! The spell will be broken, our lethargy dispersed.

Will the "swine flu" vaccine contain Birth-Control substances?
This is not as "out there" as it sounds. In the '90s there was a massive drive to vaccinate poor people in Brazil, the Philippines, and elsewhere against tetanus. The funny thing was, only the women of reproductive age (15-45) were getting vaccinated, and the protocols called for the women to be vaccinated 5 times in a 3 month period. A group was able to get ahold of one of the vials of vaccine and had it examined. In addition to tetanus anti-toxin, it also contained a human hormone called hCG. This is a hormone that is essential for a woman to carry a pregnancy to term. In the formulation used, when the woman's body would create tetanus antibodies, it would also create antibodies against her own hCG. This effectively rendered the woman infertile -- any time she would get pregnant, her body's hCG antibodies would prevent her from creating enough hCG to allow her to carry the baby to term, and she would miscarry. This has been confirmed by a number of women who received the vaccine who now have hCG antibodies and who cannot get pregnant.
For the truly paranoid among us, you can say that since EVERYONE is supposed to get the vaccine, there's no way they could be separating out "contaminated" vials of vaccine. But there are five vaccine makers in the world. What if only one or two of them are "contaminated"? How can you tell (since you're not going to see the bottle) where the vaccine you are getting is coming from? What is to keep a group from ensuring that vaccines from a specific manufacturer are sent to specific geographic areas?

Also interesting, "A record number of nominations, in all 205, have been made for the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize, the Norwegian Nobel Institute said Friday." Apparently, Sarkozy was one of the 205, but I don't know who leaked that. Didn't read the whole article, maybe it says.
Yesterday I was too floored by Obama receiving the "Nobel Peace Prize" for his peace agenda "intentions" rather than anything he as yet done.
If this entire scenario wasn't so pathetic it's almost comical. Isn't this like a gag? Something you would read as a joke in the Funny section?
Then I kept thinking yesterday-maybe Jib is right- He is the Anti-Christ! Right now he's just in the process of gaining momentum w/the "Global-Peace" NWO supporters.

Here are some scriptures on Faith.
I think it's timely to try & understand what happens to Christians who depart from the faith. We were warned in the "end times" this would be a marker for the return of Christ.
How can one depart from the faith?
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling way first(apostasy), and that the man of sin be revealed, the son of peridtion; 2 Thes 2:3
Remember Jesus askes when He returns-will He find "faith" on earth? Luke 18:8 When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?
"Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
1Tim 4:1
Are we not witness to this happening in the Church right now across all demoninations?
" But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry; (12) Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith." 1 Tim 5:11-12
Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
1 Peter 1:9
For by grace ye are saved through FAITH; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Eph 2:8

As for my comments regarding the OSAS topic, I was earnestly trying to find some common ground and share some points that I think are worth considering in light of the fact that both sides often (though not always) misunderstand and mischaracterize the other side. That's all.
I do think it is important that we strive to properly understand such important topics as faith, salvation, and apostacy. These are major themes in God's word. If I've misunderstood what the Lord has said about these things, I sincerely want Him to reveal it to me. I really mean that. I know that I am imperfect in my knowledge and understanding of God's truths. We all are.
I think the cave is a particularly safe and good place to engage in healthy exchanges regarding issues like these. People here love the Lord and they love His Word and they love and are part of the Body of Christ. I don't think there's anyone who has posted comments in the cave who I haven't learned something from or been encouraged by in my faith and walk with the Lord.
Anyway, I do think it is valuable to sometimes come back to common ground and remind ourselves of those truths that we can all take as starting points in our dialogues with one another.

GT, Shalom! The answer to your question is "not quite". According to him, the Lord only told him "October." He himself ...leaned strongly on the dates the 10th and the 11th due to a weighty amount of evidence shared with me and confirmed several times in the WORD. However, I did not hear the LORD tell me those dates. I simply heard Him say OCTOBER.
I should point out that there was a credible threat by Al Qaeda to attempt a mass casualty event in Germany, because they did not obey Al Qaeda's directive to elect a government in line with Al Qaeda's desires. This is supposed to happen some weekend in October, so I'm also keeping my eyes peeled for that to happen.
IN the article that Lisa linked to (PASTOR VINCENT XAVIER CLARIFIES THE DATES), there is a link to the very next entry in Watchman33's blog: COUNTDOWN TO DESTRUCTION. In this, Watchman makes some interesting connections regarding this prophecy. He concludes that the date to watch out for is Oct. 13 -- Columbus Day. Another thing he does is make a connection between "the 9th hour" when Christ died on the cross. "The 9th hour" would the the ninth hour since sunrise, which would be between 3 and 4 PM local time. Pastor Xavier had also noted that "I did hear that the strike will occur during the 9:00am hour, meaning that from 9:00am to 9:59 and 59 seconds the strike will take place." This 9AM hour in Washington DC is at the same time that "the 9th hour" (3PM to 4PM) occurs in Jerusalem. (You'll have to read his blog for the full connections.)

I'm around. I got quite ill on Thursday-very stressed out and more angry than I can remember being in a really long time. Some one made false accusations against me at work and they were so over the top that when investigated, our chief medical officer used a word I have never ever heard him use-lying! I thought he was incapable of saying that word. The RN's in question have been censured. However I got so worked up that I could feel my BP going up as well and then developed numbness in my face and the more I got stressed out over my inability to calm down the higher my BP went up. I am now on meds for new BP problems.

sorry to burst you bubble but you can not use any of the Hebrews passages to support loss of salvation. The book of Hebrews was written to Hebrews thinking of going back into Judaism. According to Frucht, and per him several other commentators, the context of most of Hebrews is discussing why they can't go back into Judaism. The loss they are going to experience is a loss of temporal blessings only not salvation and loss of life since they will then bring themselves back under the curse pronounced on Jerusalem by Christ for the rejection of His claims. I really enjoyed the study on Hebrews as it gave my much food to ponder.
While I have yet to read either Peter or James I suspect that in context of them being Jewish epistles there will be another meaning to the passages you have quoted as proving loss of salvation.

I got quite a giggle about your ponderings on BOO with his recent award for the Nobel Prize. I mean seriously could anything be more ridiculous? The man has done nothing to deserve this and it is soooo premature as to be laughable.
I keep wondering about the whole the AC will not be revealed until after the Rapture. Unless God has a major surprise up his figurative sleeve, perhaps he might be known or suspected by believers before the rapture?

Thanks for the info. So I guess the original post about the 10th was a mistake in understanding what was said in the prophecy? I'll pass on the numerology part though, I think that is really taking it too far out!

Jim G, I agree with you that this is a good place to discuss issues. While it at times gets heated, I think we all about one another and patch things up pretty quickly even if we don't come to the same conclusions.

We (my wife, son, and I) attend a church that has a Saturday night service and two Sunday morning services. We usually go to one of the Sunday services but went to the Saturday evening service tonight.
So, guess what topic our pastor got onto tonight. Yep. That one. Mac, he's on your side! What's worse is that he had the nerve to quote Paul in support of his position! (Of course, I think he misinterpreted what Paul was saying).
Should be an interesting Home Group this week. We've been following the pastor's sermons and discussing them. We're hosting and I'm supposed to lead the discussion.
I guess there is some comfort in knowing that even I've embraced an incorrect doctrinal position, I won't lose my salvation over it;-)
The thing I find interesting is that I THOUGHT that the denomination to which our church belongs (Foursquare) had a clear doctrinal position on the topic and that it was not the position we've been hearing from our pastor. Frankly, I only really care what the Lord's position is on any topic. I told him tonight, I'm open Lord. Please keep me humble and show me your truths because you are the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

I didn't post any scripture on loosing salvation did I? They were all in reference to loosing faith. LOL!
So if you loose your faith can you loose your salvation?
What comes first the chicken or the egg? **Had to be the Chicken.
What if you loose your faith in the word of God? What happens when you only believe part/parts of it?
Does it cause one's spiritual health to diminish? Can that lead you off God's narrow path & sidetrack you onto a man made road?

My intention is not to bring up an Apostasy,Faith,Salvation debate on doctoral viewpoints but lets just keep on looking at Scripture as things continue to develop and events unfold.
I really want to know what is going on in the minds/hearts of Christians who are rejecting the entire council of God & becoming hostile to fundamental Christians.
How does God view that? Can this be considered Apostacy?
Right now we are witness to people "drifting away", "falling away" from the whole council of God & following ideas of men.
Many are going the way of the NWO & embracing abortion, homosexuality
and driving for Global Peace & Global Environmental issues.
So basically they are walking right into the arms of the future false prophet & anti-Christ.

Tonight on the History Channel (7pm central time) "The Apocalypse Code" about Newton's end times study. Interestingly, it's listed as Nostradamus Effect.
Anne, Shalom! That episode of "The Nostradamus Effect" is a rerun from this last Wednesday. I tell you, the History Channel cannot give anything Christian any respect. They gloss over the fact that Newton's theological and philosophical writings outnumbered his scientific writings by calling it "an obsession".
I posted a note about this on the History Channel website, in a posting called Nostradamus Effect and Isaac Newton. I also noted David Flynn's book "Temple at the Center of Time." Within 5 minutes it had 7 views. We'll see if anyone has anything else to contribute.
