John Baillie on Prayer

"I, a pilgrim of eternity, stand before Thee, O eternal One. Let me not seek to deaden or destroy the desire for Thee that disturbs my heart. Let me rather yield myself to its constraint and go where it leads me. Make me wise to see all things today under the form of eternity, and make me brave to face all the changes in my life which such a vision may entail: through the grace of Christ my Saviour. Amen" (John Baillie)

Good to hear the news of Vicki's brother coming through the surgery and also that she has plenty of support from the close family. Those 'all alone' ordeals are tough going and not one that I hope never happens again in my lifetime.

Where in the world is Lisa?

If you all need a natural hot tub to relax ya, come on to Okieland. The water running in our system is all very warm. No cold, clear water in this part of the world and that will probably last for at least another month. But look at it this way, we are saving natural gas by not having to run the water heater so much. Just turn on the faucet and get right in.

Have a great weekend everyone

Hello, I'm still here. I've been checking in on my not so "smart" phone & it won't let me post. It always says "wrong password".

So I end up typing a comment & since it doesn't go through I give up & then forget about it.

But now I've got the warm & fuzzies since you've noticed that I've been incognito. Assuming that you may have sort of missed me perhaps??? (;

The John Baile prayer is so inspirational & poetic. Pretty soon I'm going to get in the mode & write one too.

John McTernan has an interesting post today about the prophecy from Jeremiah regarding Elam which is the part of Iran which includes the Bushehr reactor. Here's the prophecy:

Jeremiah 49:34,35 The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet against Elam in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might.
(36) And upon Elam will I bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will scatter them toward all those winds; and there shall be no nation whither the outcasts of Elam shall not come.
(37,38) For I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies, and before them that seek their life: and I will bring evil upon them, even my fierce anger, saith the LORD; and I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them: And I will set my throne in Elam, and will destroy from thence the king and the princes, saith the LORD.
(39) But it shall come to pass in the latter days, that I will bring again the captivity of Elam, saith the LORD.

To update you on the request for prayer:

We are on a death watch in my DH's family. His mother is passing and this is bringing out the worst in some and the best in others. The believers are, gratefully, in the latter category. We are desiring to show the love of Jesus to all. I even believe there to be some evil principalities about, so last night DH and I prayed against that. So, I do appreciate your prayers.

I had an interesting incident happen yesterday afternoon.

After a doctor's appointment and on my way home I had several errands to do.

During my drive to my first stop, I was preoccupied with thinking about the doctor's appt., and I missed the exit on the freeway. This forced me to backtrack to the mall. (You will see later why I mentioned this.)

After my second stop I headed home. As I was waiting for a light, I noticed a lady in a van in a bank's driveway who was ready to merge into traffic. I made room for her to pull into the lane, but she appeared to be preocuppied.

She had her head down...as people who are texting or checking texts often do...and when the light turned green she didn't look up, so I drove on. I then noticed she had one of those "handicapped parking" things on her rearview mirror.

I had a strong impression that something may be wrong and I sensed that God wanted me to go back and check on her. I made a u-turn and headed back, thinking I may embarrass myself, but the feeling that I needed to go back
was strong.

She was still sitting there...head down...so I got out of my car and approached her window and saw that she, a woman of about 35, was passed out.

I said, "Ma'am, ma'am, are you alright?" (Of course, she wasn't, but I didn't know what else to say!)

She lifted her head with her eyes half closed and said, "I don't know."

I tried talking to her a bit more to try to assess the situation, and saw she had a beeper-like thing attached to her dress. She acted groggy and half-asleep and not "with it" at all.

I noticed her car was in "Drive", so I asked her to put it in "Park", which she did. Then I asked her to turn off the engine, and I ran to get help.

Guess what was right next to the bank? One of those Emergency Med Centers.

They ended up calling 9-1-1 since they couldn't rouse her any more than I could.

It appeared that she had been to a local hospital just two hours earlier and had gotten an insulin pump attached (the beeper-like object).

Fireman came and gave her a shot of some sort, and she seemed to perk up some, so I left.

I just feel so grateful I missed my exit and that God used me to help Kathleen (the name on some medical papers she opened on her lap). Please pray for her that doctors will get her insulin under control. God was really looking out for her because she easily could have drifted into traffic or passed out while driving.

Oh, also, a nurse took Kathleen's blood glucose level after giving her some apple juice and it was 56.

56?! Wow! Part of me is thinking I should be so lucky! The normal range is between 100 and 120 or 130. If it was 56 AFTER having some apple juice then it means her blood glucose level was REALLY low. You really did arrive in the nick of time.

Gary is serving in Iraq, while his young wife is fighting cancer here.

My name is Gary Hogman, some of you know me, some do not. My wife Cindy is 32 years of age, and has just been diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer. Her chances of survival are very slim. She was pregnant with our second child and had miscarried recently at 3 months; and now we know why.

This is a request for you to forward this e-mail to everyone that you know , asking for prayer.

The more people that pray for her to be healed, the better. Pray and forward. It only takes a second to hit the forward, please do it, and do not delete this. Your prayer can and perhaps will save Cindy's life. Please pray and ask everyone you know to pray for the HEALING of CINDY HOGMAN, and for the removal of all cancer from her body, so she may enjoy all that life has to offer, and to continue to be the wonderful mother to our 5 year old son MICHAEL.

The power of prayer is unsurpassed. I want the whole world to have her in their prayers, in the next few weeks...God will hear our cry...Please do not be offended by my pleas.

This is a request only for your prayers. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, for reading this and interceding for a miraculous healing, from a miraculous GOD and Savior JESUS. no words can express the power we have when we each do a little to come together in support of one another.

Regards, Cindy's husband, Gary

Lisa, I remember Hurr. Wilma. It messed my house up. It moved my best friend's house 5 inches on the foundation. She lives just a few houses away. The plumbing in our homes runs thru the ceiling. So her house had to almost be gutted. The roof was awful. Vito, a few houses in the other direction, had to gut everything. Unfortunately, everything that had belonged to his recently deceased mother, was completely ruined when the roof caved in, water, trees, insulation, not to mention things now wet that were stored in the attic. Our home was mild in comparison. We had vertical and horizontal cracks in our interior walls. The kitchen cabinets all were hanging off damaged drywall and had to be replaced. Our roof had to be replaced. And you know the insurance didn't cover the expense and my husband did all the work himself. We didn't pay for any help. Neighbors came to the rescue. It was one roof at a time around here for a while. It just depended on who's supplies arrived first! The rest of us kept the men and braver women fed and hydrated.

Adversity reveals character. We found a majority of our neighbors, are completely wonderful.

Off The Wall News: I'm at a point in this endeavor where I have to make a very important decision. Since I do not have clear direction at this time, I am going to be praying and fasting for the next 3 weeks. I have until September 19th to make this decision.

The site will keep running, but I feel led to stop the news during this time. You will not see updates in your email or on the site. This is a good time for you to check the archives for articles on topics that are most important to you and bookmark them just in case I close the site on the 20th of September.

If you would like to check my news resources on your own, please feel free. I would suggest that you go to Google search engine and type "Google alerts" in the box. It will ask you what key words you want to search and how often you'd like those links sent to your email box. The most common searches for my site are: Israel, United Nations, Alliance of Civilization, you could even put in your name. If your key word appears anywhere on the internet, you will receive the link to it in your email box. The service is free.

Please keep me in your prayer as I seek the Lord for an answer.

Found out that Bill will not have the biopsy until the doctors can review his case more. I know he was dreading that, so that's good news that he won't have to endure that quite yet anyway.

I found this encouraging quote that's helped me this last week, and I thought I'd share with you. It's from a wonderful book, "Acts of the Apostles."

"Trial is part of the education given in the school of Christ, to purify God's children from the dross of earthliness. It is because God is leading His children that trying experiences come to them. Trials and obstacles are His chosen methods of discipline, and His appointed conditions of success. He who reads the hearts of men knows their weaknesses better than they themselves can know them. He sees that some have qualifications which, if rightly directed, could be used in the advancement of His work."

Michigander said...

I got some good news from my brother Bill tonight!

His nephrologist said that he didn't think Bill has kidney cancer, but probably has something called acute tubular necrosis. Statistics say that 90% get full function of their kidneys back in four months. This is such an answer to prayer and we are so relieved that it doesn't seem to be cancer or other bad diagnosis.

Of course, he isn't out of the woods yet, but this has given him and us, his family, hope...and that was badly needed.

We are so fortunate and blessed, and you will never know how we appreciate your prayers. God has heard and is merciful.

Bill is so encouraged, and looking forward to full recovery by God's grace.

Author: More teens becoming 'fake' Christians

jib said...

Jim G

interesting article. posted it on my facebook wall with the following comment (for those who aren't facebook friends)

I would note that I think Almost Gone by Ken Hamm does a better job of dealing with this subject. I don't think kids need to see radical faith in social justice terms I think kids need to see consistency between the walk and the talk of their parents and those around them and they need to be taught a biblical worldview-not a radical faith via social justice world view. This article is more about a socially aware faith which is a good thing but if you have an appropriate world view the social awareness follows. I would note that most of this seems to be more focused on a social awareness then what it means to have faith and what that faith is and should be.

I found the article to likely be true for the most part where I differ is the remedy-her suggestions were very social justice oriented and I think teaching the kids what it means to be a real biblical Christian as well as a biblical worldview would be far better. I would note that those she described as having radical passion sounded more to me like they had a biblical worldview than being about social justice

jib said...

Vicky

such great news for your brother and i am sure good news follows for you as well!

Jim G. said...

Hi Jib,

I think you and I have very similar views on this. I didn't really get the same sense as you did regarding the article being "more about a socially aware faith." I guess I see what you were saying but I don't think that is what the author was articulating. I could be wrong though.

I think what the author said in the following excerpt is so true:
Dean says more American teenagers are embracing what she calls "moralistic therapeutic deism." Translation: It's a watered-down faith that portrays God as a "divine therapist" whose chief goal is to boost people's self-esteem.

Dean is a minister, a professor at Princeton Theological Seminary and the author of "Almost Christian," a new book that argues that many parents and pastors are unwittingly passing on this self-serving strain of Christianity.

She says this "imposter'' faith is one reason teenagers abandon churches.

"If this is the God they're seeing in church, they are right to leave us in the dust," Dean says. "Churches don't give them enough to be passionate about."

The article didn't quote any Scriptures but two come to mind (and I must admit I need to heed these Scriptures more in my life):
34"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
Matt 25:34-36

26If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. 27Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
James 1:26-27

"She says parents who perform one act of radical faith in front of their children convey more than a multitude of sermons and mission trips.

A parent's radical act of faith could involve something as simple as spending a summer in Bolivia working on an agricultural renewal project or turning down a more lucrative job offer to stay at a struggling church, Dean says.

But it's not enough to be radical -- parents must explain "this is how Christians live," she says.

"If you don't say you're doing it because of your faith, kids are going to say my parents are really nice people," Dean says. "It doesn't register that faith is supposed to make you live differently unless parents help their kids connect the dots."

the above is the author's solution to the problem of watered down faith-sounds like social justice to me. no mention of teaching an appropriate world view as the solution to the problem

Jen said...

My biggest concern with social justice and some veins of radical faith living is that the whole focus is on our "doing" something to gain God's favor or show that we're willing to perform in some way to demonstrate our faith. If the recognition isn't there that we are already in a position of grace (through Jesus' freely given gift), then we're still putting the impetus on ourselves to save ourselves (or maintain our salvation.) It's very subtle and can easily get highjacked by the verses that encourage us to care for those in need. As I'm growing in faith, I realize that much of my maturing has to come in the form of the renewing of my mind/thinking/believing. The more I get lined up with understanding how perfectly and completely Jesus has already saved me, the more I want to share that with others and give love/care/help/etc. out of the bounty which He has given me. With the social justice/some radical faith pursuits, I don't see that understanding of it being all about Jesus. There is still a "self" element that gets all the attention. Lots of people of other faiths (or non-faith) live radically and have very appealing/commendable lifestyles. But ultimately, if they aren't operating out of an acceptance of Jesus' freely given grace, it is for naught.

2 cents ;-)
Blessings,
Jen

I can see how the "Purpose Driven" or "Socially aware faith" could be used by Satan to lead people away from being rooted in the vine & producing fruit w/o living in the Spirit. It's easy for us to revert to the flesh for "good works". Fleshly "good works"(which anyone can do BTW) are” socially appealing" but rooted &
motivated in "self" or a "system" & are not counted & rewarded in God's economy.

If you are rooted & living "In Christ" then the Holy Spirit will be guiding you & those works will be done in power & in the Spirit. Yielding our wills to God & following the unction of the Spirit is where the rubber meets the road in true Christianity. Depending upon how yielded we are will depend upon how much true fruit is produced.

Matthew 13:23 "And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty."

Luke 18:15 "But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop."

If you're yielded & "In Christ" you will produce fruit as that is the Holy Spirit's job in these earthen vessels. But only in this way is the heart in the right place. Humbled & yielded to "God's will" be done & not our own wills or ideas.

John 15:5 "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing."

All "good works" done though the Holy Spirit are lasting & eternal.
The rest may look good & do some good but are not rewarded.

What amazes me is that though God's grace we even be used to fulfill His will on earth in the
1st place.

We are not saved though good works but good works/fruit are evident in the lives of the believers who are saved. It would be impossible to be yielded to Christ & living in the Spirit not to produce good fruit/works.

John 15:16 "You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit--fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name."

Eph 2:10 "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

John 15:7 "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you."

Late Night Lisa said...

The tricky part would be looking at two "Christians" one saved & one not saved & determining if they are a wheat or tare because we look at the outward appearance & only God can read the heart. It seems when the going gets tough enough & the "Christians" faith is tested is when the separation becomes self evident.

That is what I believe we are in the process of witnessing now. Apostasy & the separation of wheat & tares. Who will come out of "Babylon" & into a true relationship w/the Lord & who will compromise & remain walking on the broad road leading to destruction.

1 Timothy 5:24,25 "Remember, the sins of some people are obvious, leading them to certain judgment. But there are others whose sins will not be revealed until later. In the same way, the good deeds of some people are obvious. And the good deeds done in secret will someday come to light."

John 15:1,2 "I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.
He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful."

Matt 7:18,19 "A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them."

James 3) Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom....But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

Anyway, That's how I understand the difference between the "Social Works Gospel" & the true gospel of abiding in Christ Jesus.

Shalom, all! There's so much quiet going on right now. I don't want to equate it to August 2001. All during that month, I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. The biggest thing on the news was a Congressional sex scandal, and I just had the sense of something impending.

Now, I don't have that same strong sense of foreboding. It could very well be that, being more aware of end times events, G_D doesn't feel as compelled to keep tapping me on the shoulder. I'm standing watch on the walls, waiting for daybreak.

With that in mind, here's an article that appeared a couple of days ago at "Spirit Daily":

Strange Unease And 'Quiet' Settle Upon Us As We Hear This: Expect Events That Are Sudden

The word we get is "sudden." There is this unusual calm out there. Is it a calm before a storm?

We say this, of course, at a time of financial unease, of doubts about our nation (and the world's future structure), and as actual storms are swirling out there (but not yet ashore).

There is that other word: unease.

People seem unsettled. They are pulling back. They are considering whether to batten the hatches. In short, they are waiting for the other shoe to drop.

We suggest that the Holy Spirit be sought to guide each person, for we will all have different needs in the future -- and only He knows what they will be. There is no set formula.

Jim,
been feeling that way for over 18 months now but now the dread seems to be gone. I have related the change in my own instance to the power of prayer. Many, many, many believers are praying for God's direction and protection so that could be part of the change in the tension.

So many times I have felt that my prayers were only going as high as the ceiling but I knew otherwise. Now I see the fruition of those prayers beginning to take place. So, maybe we have just grown to be more patient and as for the other shoe, it might be a house slipper instead of a conquering boot.

But I do know this for sure; it is time to be serious about the things that belong to God and NOW. Not time to go shaking the bushes for something exciting to happen or occupy my mind. Just learn to Abide in Christ Jesus in the most complete and compelling way possible. That word "Abide" is a real heart searcher.

Great link and I am going to save that one for all of the times when hope seems a little dull.

Andrew Murray authored a fantastic book titled "On Prayer" and I have had it for a long time. Published in 1998 most recently but my first book is much older. Seems Whitaker House compiled Andrew Murray's teachings on prayer and I highly recommend this newer edition. I believe anyone who has taken the time to read any of his material has to come away from the experience with a new and humble understanding of the real character of God.

My point that I want to make is Andrew spends the first portion of the lessons teaching on what abiding means and what it involves. We don't hear much about abiding in Christ Jesus much anymore but when I was a child that topic topped the motivation sermons. You see we didn't have all of the distractions back 60 years ago that you have now. Some people would probably say we lived a rather dull life but it wasn't. Our sofa's (couch to you all) never really wore out and most often the newly weds would inherit the unused sofa's in grandma/grandpa's house. We just never had much time to sit around on a sofa back then and there wasn't much use for aids to help us sleep either. We didn't have Wii or Nintendo or for that matter, PC/MAC's and getting connected meant being part of the family or meeting new people.

So, abiding was the central portion of being a born again, blood bought believer in Jesus Christ. Church socials were just that. We talked to each other in person, nose to nose and heart to heart. When nonsense opened up it's silly mouth no one hesitated to shut it. Stupid was stupid and no one wanted to be given that label. There was a definite knowledge of right and wrong; black and white meant the same thing; we knew that chasing the wind would bring shame but if we made our bed in chasing the whirl wind then we had to accept the blisters WE chose. That came along with marriage/divorce/ drinking/abstaining and whatever else was out there laying in wait to deceive us.

We live in 2010 but the same things that were a sin in 3000 B.C. are still a sin and playing with sin will bring the same result---blisters to sit on.

So, now I am going to go read some more at the link Jim posted and again, my round friend, thank you!

I have a question for a friend in Ukraine studying at a seminary that teaches "replacement theology" although they claim it is not replacement, but fulfilled. Is there a good book reviewing covenant/replacement theology available online, or a website that can give a clear and simple explanation.

There is no hope of sending a book in the mail, as it will be enjoyed by someone else along the supply route.

I liked your last Jonah post so much I passed it around!

Praise report: Maranatha Chapel switched from the "puffy" crackers (as Pastor Ray called it) to the Jewish unleavened Matzo thins for communion.

All of a sudden this past Sunday I look down & wow! I couldn't believe it. That's been bugging me for quite awhile now. I remember when we had our first conversation about those oyster crackers.

My prayer was finally answered! I tried not to roll my eyes around in their sockets every time I took a communion wafer all levened up- but really that thought would always come to mind ever since I learned about the Jewish symbolism of the Matzo bread.

Those oyster crackers just looked like they should be put on clam chowder instead of representing the body of Christ.

The Matzo wafers are:

Pierced (holes punched in them)
Bruised (toasted shading)
Striped (vertical line marks)
Sinless (unleavened)

The kids said: "Hey, we got stale crackers this time!" Then after I explained they were not stale but a different type of bread & the symbolism they thought that was cool.

jim.carroll said...

Wayne, have your friend check out "Salvation is from the Jews" by Roy Schoeman. It has several chapters that cover replacement theology. It also has documents the pagan and occult origins of Nazism and how, had WW2 not occurred, the Nazis had plans for completely subjugating and subsuming Christianity in the Reich, replacing it with a completely pagan religion dedicated to the Reich.

It's also available in Spanish, French, or German if he is more comfortable in those languages. Just go to Salvation is from the Jews.

Jim C, That's right- I forgot to list "broken" because it came to us that way. (in small pieces)

Like the symbolism in the Jewish Passover meal when they take the whole piece of Matzo out of the (bread bag?) sleave & break it in half - then pass it around.

Christ is at every traditional Passover feast-hidden to the Jews in plain sight.

if you friend can afford anything by Frucht I would recommend Israelology-it is a REALLLLLY thorough covering of the subject of this type of covenant theology which covers replacement and supersessionism as well as dispensational theology. it is quite compelte at 2500 pages. I thought it could be purchased as an e-book but don't see one on the site.

The book Standing with Israel by David Brog was also quite good but alas not online-might be able to get as e-book though although he may not have one of the e book readers. I would advise him to get if possible as it would open up a huge world of books since he could get a plethora of titles from amazon at a fraction of the cost delivered directly to his email address.

jim.carroll said...

Lisa, just make sure the matzo you're using is "Kosher for Pesau" (Passover). I'm trying to get our diocese to come up with a ruling on using this kind of matzo as a replacement for the usual communion hosts in an emergency. I think they're hesitating because for most of the year the local stores sell flavored matzos (you know, garlic, cheese, etc.) which are NOT "Kosher for Pesau", and because making communion bread is so easy -- just flour and water, knead into a dough, take a ball, roll it into a circle, flatten and bake. The key is getting it into the oven no later than 18 minutes after the water hits the flour. If more than 18 minutes have passed there's too much chance that the dough has been contaminated by natural yeast, and the whole batch gets thrown out.

And please, use grape wine, not grape juice. If you're using wine, make sure it's pure wine. So much of what gets sold as wine in America has additives like sugar and fruit juices. For Catholics, any wine that's produced in California is safe to use because the laws in California prohibit such additives.

If you don't want to use regular wine, check with a local Catholic church about buying must (moost). Grape juice is pasteurized, so there's no yeast in it for fermentation. Must is basically unpasteurized grape juice, the juice from the grapes before it's been put in to the kettles for fermentation. Must is produced for those times where the priest can't drink alcohol, usually due to alcoholism but also because certain combinations of drugs (particularly for cancer) prohibit consumption of alcohol. Using must would allow you to avoid alcohol while better keeping in the spirit of a Passover celebration.

YES, but we got all of streets washed without using the city water, the city utility trucks and now our yard is watered, cleaned off and everything is flowing great. Praise God.

There was a tornado that sat right at the very edge of our county on the south border. The tornado was real but it didn't come any further than the border of LeFlore County. My DHJ yelled at me to come see the radar on TV because he could not believe what he was seeing. I love to watch God's provisions in action and boy, did Abba ever show off during this storm.

We had the most rain in just a matter of a short time that DJH has ever seen. The streets were like a river and all of the yards were little tributaries flowing into the 'river' and guess who was out front of our house playing in the rain--the pastors children from across the street. They were having a ball and looked so cute. Had their little umbrellas over their shoulder, took off their rubber boots and were doing the same thing I used to do when I was their age. I wanted to go join them so bad but restrained myself, this time!

What taste of a hurricane we got this time is enough to do me the rest of my life. It looks like the storm has moved on out of here and I am praying it will lose all of it's power before much longer.

My heart goes out to all the people in Texas and southern Oklahoma because they really caught the worst part of it. We have a few of those residents right here at the cave.

With the latest uproar over the burning of the Koran, I thought you might be interested in a different approach:

When St. Francis preached to the Muslims

When he was brought before the Sultan, he offered a challenge to prove which God was greater: build two fires and both he and the Sultan's inman would enter a fire. Whoever passed through the fire unscathed that God would be greater. (St. Patrick did something similar in Ireland.) The Sultan declined, having noticed his inman sneaking away after hearing the challenge.

The Sultan did convert on his deathbed, though.

Question. It seems quiet around here and also on other sites. Do most of you now communicate with others on sites like facebook rather than blogs such as this? (I cancelled my facebook account after my account was "hijacked" and used to disseminate a video with a virus. Am I missing something?)

Are we growing weary from waiting? Or have many just simply moved on to other things. I know I sometimes just get too busy to post but still check in on everyone.

Just a question, not a criticism.

Late Night Lisa said...

In the age of new media and high-powered communications, the small story of a tiny Church protesting with the symbolic burning of Korans sparked off an international crisis.

The president, the secretary of State, the top general in our military, secretary of defense, every left and right wing media outlet world wide weighed in with their views concerning this great insult to Islam.

The Pastor who decided to do this is not a person who follows the teachings he espouses, however the world or to be more accurate the "free" world are just as guilty of foolishness! Why do you ask? This Pastor does not deserve any attention, as he is irrelevant. He represents only 50 people in a country of 300 million plus people. He does not represent the views of the 99.99% of this country, so why bother giving him the attention that he does not deserve.

Maybe the left wish to slam Christianity, maybe the right wish to improve their ratings, whatever the reason we are where we are at on this issue today. What is important is now is that this story has got massive coverage, the result of the controversy shows that we are in a no win situation with the Muslim world.

The Pastor was a fool for proposing to burn the Koran, because as most normal people of faith this is not how one directs your anger but now that he has made this story what it is, the consequences for not following through with his threat are actually potentially greater than his backing down. Many, both conservative and liberals breathed a sigh of relief that the Koran will not be burnt.

It must be noted that not burning the Koran could have even larger consequences even though I disagree with the original proposal. The reason is that you must understand the mindset of the Muslim world. They maybe offended by the burning, however if the pastor backs off they view this as a victory for Allah as their threat of violence and intimidation worked and Allah's will was done.

They do not think like people of the Judea Christian culture where compromise is looked upon as a positive strength not a weakness. The backing off by the Pastor in effect will cause more violence and more protests not less, the threat of violent Jihad terror will intensify because of this political victory which as achieved because of the threat of violence, so in effect violence i.e. terror works.

The second reason is that the Islamic world needs to prove to us that if one of their religious symbols are burnt or desecrated that they as a "religion of peace" need to show to us that this is the case i.e. that words of condemnation, restraint as well as prayers for peace, instead of riots, violence and killing when someone from another faith insults Islam; needs to be witnessed from the West. This will prove to us that tolerance in Islam exists. The West has witnessed much provocation, desecrating of churches, burning of bibles, persecution of Christians in the Muslim world yet we do not witness reciprocal violence form mobs or riots in our Western countries against Muslims.

Late Night Lisa said...

The current policies and political correctness of our government long term will actually exasperate violence against Muslims when today we are unwilling to deal with the true intention of fundamentalist Muslims.

The Imam who is building the ground zero mosque is unwilling to compromise on his positions yet the USA non Muslim community are expected to compromise for his faith.

On CNN Imam suggests that violence might occur if the mosque is moved. While he did not threaten to use violence he suggested that many of his coreligionists might do so if he would compromise. The imam is brilliant at using language that instills fear but at the same time obfuscates him from blame for causing that fear. Imam Rauf is a slippery snake, who we have already have exposed as a supporter of terror in his writings in Arabic in the Middle East media. He will never compromise if you understand Islamic law like we do.

The Imam cannot move the mosque, as once land is purchased for a mosque, it can never be sold or disposed of; it belongs to the Umma forever. The only way to stop the mosque is through local legislation or violence (we condemn violence).

We have the perfect litmus test in front of us? The President should say that he disagrees vehemently with the burning of the Koran, but Pastor Terry Jones has the right to do it under the freedoms of the USA constitution, and if he does do it, this is a chance for the Muslim world to react in a way that proves they are a peaceful religion.

Unfortunately hell will freeze over first before the current President would have the wisdom to utter such words.

I am incredulous that it is coming up at that meeting. I write what God puts on my heart to write. all but 2 of the deacon's back what is being written and don't want the format changed, our elder liaison thinks it should stay the same but the church secretary and a couple of others who are liberal think the format should be changed. I am uncertain what to do. Per the elder my efforts are blessing many people and what they want it changed to is trite and trivial-basically they want the letter to be what the deacon's did last month which is not what the originator of the corner wanted this to be

Anne, your question caused me to do a lot of searching about "Ezekiel 4:9 bread". There's a company that makes a bread by that name that's sold in the freezer of the health food section of my local grocery store. A Google search of that turned up a number of recipes, including some videos. While some of the videos recommend grinding all the beans and grains together at once (note that some substitute soy beans for other kinds of beans and use soy flour), I think the most accurate recipes call for the grains and beans to be put in a bowl, covered with water, and sprouted. After that you mash everything together and add yeast.

Obviously some experimentation is required.

Anne said...

Jim, the bread in the freezer is what I've been buying for several years, when I can bear to pay the $5 per loaf, thus the search for a great recipe. You are right, the "correct" way to make it is to sprout the stuff. I've never sprouted a thing that I couldn't grow in dirt, so I haven't ventured there yet. If I don't get a better result from the flours, I might just have to learn.

Diana, the bread is what God instructed Ezekiel to make when he was to symbolize the siege of Jerusalem: 9 “And you, take wheat and barley, beans and lentils, millet and emmer, [a type of wheat] and put them into a single vessel and make your bread from them. During the number of days that you lie on your side, 390 days, you shall eat it.

The bread at the store tastes wonderful, but what I made tasted far too lentilly, and after baking two hours instead of the recommended one, was still mushy inside, dark on the outside.

I have several recipes which I got online, but wondered if anyone else had one which worked for them.

Prayer Is Strongest When It's Spontaneous And Answered With A Sense Of His Presence

How do we secure what God has earmarked for us, and especially how do we obtain what we need to fulfill our missions?

We pray and let the Holy Spirit inspire us. He does so consciously and through our subconscious. Prayer is the language of miracles, and the more we do it, the more we click into the rhythm of miracles. ... Most potent are prayers that go directly to Jesus. Asking Christ to be your Savior, and then speaking with Him as if He were right there, establishing a personal relationship, will take you to a new level.

oH, that is good! You know one of my favorite passages is John 17 and just knowing that Jesus said he would never leave us or forsake us is so powerful and really me to weep. How can a perfectly holy and pure person such as Jesus even tolerate living in us for more than an instant? How can a loving God give us His only begotten Son as a flesh and pure blood sacrifice for all of my filthy deeds. How great a love it would have to be to not cringe when one of those unholy people ask Jesus Christ to come into their heart and save them. Let alone knowing that when He sent Jesus into our earthly lives as a precious baby, the world that He was sending Jesus to would curse him, spit on him and then hang him on an accursed tree. To go on denying all that Abba has for us and we just keep on sinning and then repenting? How long would I put up with it from my own kids or friends? I can tell you, not very long. Or at least I wouldn't want to if it happened.

But to know what the Holy Presence of Jesus Christ can do to me is something that I run willingly to and I am never disappointed in the experience. The enduring love of so great a Lord is so overwhelming and melts all of my fears, doubts and wants that sometimes I just don't want the everyday life to continue past His presence.

There is a song that I love and it is called WHISPER JESUS and someone on the blog sent it to me when my DJH and I were going through a very rough ordeal. I love this song and it just has to be one of the most blessed songs ever.

I know, it is just "imho" but it sure does speak to my heart everytime I hear it.

Thank you Jim,

Your friend,

Vicki

stress can do strange things so don't go borrowing trouble as they say. God's grace is indeed great. I have medical issues for which their appear to be no answers also-very frustrating but even though I don't know the name of what is going on nor do my colleagues but God does and he does provide the grace and strength to do what we are called to do. Trust in God for you strength

Note from Uncle Bob!

Dear Friends and Family,
I am extremely pleased to announce that my newest book, Musings from Me and My Master, is now available.
This new labor of love is a collection of short offerings designed to bring every reader closer to God. Each composition stands alone, and hopefully will give you something to think about, ponder, meditate on, and muse about. Some will startle you. Some will elicit a "wow!" Some will make you laugh, and others may bring a single tear of joy. I truly think you will enjoy them all. Each one is about five or so minutes long, so you can spread them out one a day for over two months if you like, or devour them all in a few sittings. I believe they will all be entertaining, including the amazing miracles that are described.
Unlocking God's Secrets spread beyond my dreams and is still be ordered as far away as Malaysia, and it happened because of you. I am still amazed and humbled that so many of you purchased and gave out copies at the rate of ten, twenty, thirty, fifty and even a hundred or more. Your rewards are waiting for you in heaven because souls were saved that you don't even know about. Countless messages came to me from brand new believers saying that they found Jesus because someone gave them the book. Thank you, thank you, thank you, from me and our Lord.

Because of that, no marketing effort is planned at all for this latest endeavor, Musings from Me and My Master, except for this e-mail you are reading. Since I have no platform of my own, may I be so bold as to ask you to share this e-mail, possibly along your own thoughts, with folks you know. In doing so, I believe you can be the hands and voice for Jesus in this project, and I would be ever so thankful. I know He was a part of the research and writing, and I pray that through you He will be a part of the distribution.
And may I say, knowing the surprises that are in this book, there is not a person in your e-mail address list who would not be touched positively by reading it. Even people who normally don't read books will enjoy these short stories and articles.
As you may understand, the per copy cost has been kept as low as possible to encourage readership because I believe that it can be a blessing for anyone. As a result, the profit margin is paper thin, but please know that even at that, the majority of any profit gained will be sent to help in taking care of orphans as well as for Christian mission work.
In time, Musings from Me and My Master will be available through places like Amazon.com and fine book stores everywhere, but today the only place you can get this collection is here

Hi Guys,
Praying for all who have requested and all you others!

Don't know if we have ever had a post last this long? So it is slow:-(

Here is something to hopefully make you smile and is a bit crase. I don't know how true it is but........ :-)

One of the most brilliant pieces of provocations in recent years.

Greg Gutfield from Fox News’ Red Eye announced today via his blog that he is actively speaking to investors and plans on opening a gay bar next to the controversial mosque being built near Ground Zero in New York. To make matters worse (better?) the bar will be specifically designed to cater to homosexuals of the Islamic faith. God, this is going to be an exciting block.

Here’s Gutfield’s entire post which he will expand upon during tonight’s Red Eye: “So, the Muslim investors championing the construction of the new mosque near Ground Zero claim it’s all about strengthening the relationship between the Muslim and non-Muslim world.

jeri from SA said...

As an American, I believe they have every right to build the mosque – after all, if they buy the land and they follow the law – who can stop them?
Which is, why, in the spirit of outreach, I’ve decided to do the same thing.
I’m announcing tonight, that I am planning to build and open the first gay bar that caters not only to the west, but also Islamic gay men. To best express my sincere desire for dialogue, the bar will be situated next to the mosque Park51, in an available commercial space.

This is not a joke. I’ve already spoken to a number of investors, who have pledged their support in this bipartisan bid for understanding and tolerance.
As you know, the Muslim faith doesn’t look kindly upon homosexuality, which is why I’m building this bar. It is an effort to break down barriers and reduce deadly homophobia in the Islamic world.

The goal, however, is not simply to open a typical gay bar, but one friendly to men of Islamic faith. An entire floor, for example, will feature non-alcoholic drinks, since booze is forbidden by the faith. The bar will be open all day and night, to accommodate men who would rather keep their sexuality under wraps – but still want to dance.

Bottom line: I hope that the mosque owners will be as open to the bar, as I am to the new mosque. After all, the belief driving them to open up their center near Ground Zero, is no different than mine.

My place, however, will have better music.”

There is a wonderful Step-by-step Yom Kippur Guide online that's worth our time to read. A lot of the "traditions" seem to be just that, traditions. But when we look at them from the light of the Gospel, eyes are opened.

This Yom Kippur, please pray for others around the world, that their spiritual eyes will be opened to the truth. And most of all, that Israel's heart will soften and see that her Messiah has come.

Hey, Jeri, for a minute there I thought you'd crossed over to the dark side. Then I read the previous comment. That's what I get for reading down up!

So, I was reading in Ezekiel this morning when this caught my eye:

Ezek 5:7 Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because you are more turbulent than the nations that are all around you, and have not walked in my statutes or obeyed my rules, and have not even acted according to the rules of the nations that are all around you, 8 therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I, even I, am against you. And I will execute judgments in your midst in the sight of the nations. 9 And because of all your abominations I will do with you what I have never yet done, and the like of which I will never do again.

Any thoughts on what judgements the Lord God won't do again? Some of those listed after this passage seem to be judgements we have either seen since or expect to see. I plan to check some commentaries and Frucht, but just wanted to see what y'all think.

I'm about to head on a trip which takes me to a place with very little internet access, so I might not have a chance to check what you answer for some days. (Heading your direction, Jim G. Not far from Ashland.)

Here's another question, just for the fun of it: What other sites do some of you like to visit?

Here are the ones I remember, and even see some posts from Cave members:

Catholic Answers Forum
John McTernan
Constance Cumby
Omega Letter
Lookup Fellowship

Does anyone visit All Things New?

A site I've just started visiting is The Frugal Squirrels Who could resist a name like that??

Anne, Shalom! Just so we're on the same page, Ez. 5:5 states that this prophecy is about Jerusalem. Ezekiel began prophesying shortly after he arrived in Babylon, in 597 BC. The section Ezekiel 4:1-24:27 has to deal with prophecies "Before the Siege of Jerusalem." They all came true 10 years later, in 587 BC, when Nebuchadnezzar destroyed Jerusalem. Thus, Ezekiel was proven to be a true prophet of G_D.

What got G_D so ticked off was that they set up idols to Maloch in His House, complete with the sacrifice of children. This continued even after Nebuchadnezzar conquered Israel and took prisoners back with him (including Ezekiel). Since the Israelites didn't learn their lesson the first time even after being warned by G_D's prophet Ezekiel, G_D let loose the full strength of His wrath against His people. When Nebuchadnezzar attacked Jerusalem, the city was besieged to the extent that the people reverted to cannibalism. This is not only mentioned in Ezekiel 5:10, but Lamentations 4:10 and especially the Deuterocanonical book Baruch (who was the secretary to Jeremiah) -- read all of Baruch Chapter 2

So the judgment that G_D will never again inflict upon Jerusalem is a siege causing a famine so severe that mothers and fathers eat their own daughters and sons.

Hi all,
Been reading, but not much to share lately. Keep wondering if all the standstill in life is purposeful since there might not be time left to really get involved in new projects, callings, etc. So I try to fill the quiet time by getting better at hearing His voice.

Jeri, that post by Greg is funny/clever, but I'm actually concerned that he could be putting himself in an unwanted limelight with it, even if he's not serious about it. I read today that the cartoonist in Seattle who promoted the "draw Mohammed" contest is now in hiding, after the FBI urged him to go because of threats they were hearing about relatiation. And of course the attacks against the Dutch artist for the same reason. There's an evil that can motivate the unredeemed that we can't take too lightly.

Well, I've got to do a better job at getting to bed on time. Tomorrow's success depends greatly on whether or not I stick to the schedule and right now I'm pushing it!

Have a blessed day and weekend ahead!
Jen

Here's an interesting comment by Jeremy Gimpel on FaceBook

"Our sages say if the Jewish people celebrate two Shabbats in a row Mashiach will come. This year Yom Kippur, the Shabbat Shabbaton, is two Shabbats combined and with Am Yisrael's Teshuva Mashiach will come- Amen. (This was shared with me Erev Yom Kippur in Hebron in the name of Leah Golomb)"

Thanks for that link, Jim C. I'd never heard of the Ministry of Mirth before. I did note Gough Whitlam's name though and he was anything but funny as a Prime Minister. His administration reminds me so much of BHO's.

BTW, Latin_rite is incorrect. In Oz, they put interest rates up any time they feel like it.
