Shalom, all! I'm back after having spent a week in a class in Dubuque; more on that later. I'd like to post two prayer requests: first is for me to listen closely to the Lord to know what direction He wants for my life; second is for my middle daughter who is taking her Chinese proficiency tests today to see if she gets to advance to the next level of Chinese next year.

Lisa, regarding your horse trainer's assistant:

First of all, you need to ask yourself this question, and be brutally honest with yourself: Do you believe that the Roman Catholic Church is an abomination before the Lord, or that the only Catholics who are saved are saved in spite of their being Catholic?

If the answer to either of these is yes, then I wish you luck.

If the answer is no, then you need to ask yourself: Which is more important: leading her to G_D or leading her away from the RCC?

If the answer is to lead her away from the RCC, then again, I wish you luck. I ask this because there are far, far too many people who view getting a Catholic to convert to their particular interpretation of Scripture is some kind of validation; that it's one more piece of proof that their view is right. The game becomes not to lead them to G_D but to validate their own beliefs.

If your answer is to lead her to G_D, then you're going to have to grit your teeth and bite your tongue (although not at the same time -- that would just hurt) and follow my advice.

My guess from her answer is that she was never properly catechized. Either she had really, really bad Sunday-school teachers, or she was never enrolled in Sunday School in the first place. Her parents may have decided that the extra hour each week was just too much time out of their schedules, and besides, she could learn what she needed from just the time each week when they went to Church, sitting in the pews. Because she "hasn't found a good place to go yet", undoubtedly she has become a Cafeteria Catholic: She's looking for a church that won't make her feel guilty over the life she's leading. (Which is why I'm doubtful that you'll be able to convince her to become a faithful member of YOUR congregation.)

So to lead her back to Christ, you're going to have to challenge her to live in a Christian way, but to challenge her in a Catholic way.

You express frustration with her being emotionally locked into being Catholic. Please understand that Catholicism isn't just a faith or a religion, it is a culture, with a way of life. Part of that culture is accepting martyrdom. Face it, while the world may hate Christians in general, it has a particular hatred for the Catholic Church. How many times have the local Methodists preached from the pulpit on the evils of the Papacy? How many times have your neighbors, good Christians all, egged YOUR church because you "weren't REALLY Christian?" (It's kinda hard to "just be a Christian" when the Christians don't really like you as you are.) You've been tag-teaming her, challenging her to "become Christian." Do you really think that hasn't happened before in her life? Do you really think she has grown up thinking of herself as a Catholic and not experienced people who have rejected her because she "isn't Christian" or that she needs to be saved because she's Catholic? How many times have you focused on converting Lutherans, or Four-Square Gospel members? Yet such focusing is a daily occurrence for Catholics. (In fact, that's one reason I've remained Catholic: Why would so much energy be spent on getting me to convert to ANYTHING, so long as it wasn't Catholic, if there weren't some truth in Catholicism? And since a great deal of energy is expended, there must be a great deal of truth in it.)

(cont.)

jim.carroll said...

(cont. from above)

So if you are truly concerned with saving her soul, you need to challenge her in a CATHOLIC way. You say that she "prays every night." Big whoop. My guess is that she isn't spending half an hour on her knees reading Scripture and praying. I'd wager that she's spending two, maybe three minutes, because that's what she did every night growing up. (Catholic culture calls for all of us to make our work, our study, our play, our very lives into prayer. The nightly short prayer is just to be the end of what was supposed to be a day-long prayer.) So take a deep breath, screw that smile into place, and ask her why she doesn't pray the Rosary every day? Does she ever pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy? In fact, challenge her to pray one or both of these prayers every day for a month. Challenge her to pray these prayers every day for a month, asking G_D for the gift of faith.

Then challenge her to start going to a Roman Catholic Church every Sunday. It doesn't matter which one. We don't go there to fellowship or because the coffee's really good. We go to Church to worship G_D. That is the one, the ONLY reason we are there: worship. Yes, the meeting and making friends is nice, but there are clubs for that. There are places you can go to have bible study. You go to Church to worship. For a Catholic, either a Roman Catholic or someone in one of the Orthodox faiths, that means the Eucharist. It means that when the priest exercises his scriptural authority, the bread and wine change into the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus the Christ. Even if she doesn't receive Holy Communion, she is still in the physical presence of G_D, and He deserves her worship.

IOW, challenge her to be not just, well, a Catholic, but to BE a Catholic. If nothing else, encourage her to come to Catholic Answers Forum (forums.catholic.com) to ask questions. Trust me, very few things will shock her more than hearing a "non-denominational Christian persuasion like her boss" CHALLENGING her to be not just a Catholic, but a Catholic Christian. Such a shock may be what she needs to start actually practicing her faith, to actually get off the fence. If she chooses to NOT be Catholic, then she will probably be much more willing to follow another Christian tradition. THEN your tag-teaming will probably work.

Good to see you back and excellent advice regarding the restoration of a wayward child. In fact, good advice for helping any one to return to their place of worship.

I just read Bill Wilson's article on the LA Latino meeting. Not impossible by any means and something that has crossed my mind many times. We could multiply that by the Native Americans and they occupied all of the territory to begin with. Then we have the French and also, cavemen! Let's get them all and march on the hub of stupidity....yep, DC.

Well, anyway, it is a problem I think we can leave for the next group of citizens. I just have this big undeniable urge to say this. HE'S ON HIS WAY!

Jim C, Looks like I hit a nerve w/you? zzzzzap!

Thanks for the Christian Catholic perspective- what I pray for her or anyone else for that matter is that they are brought back into a relationship w/the Lord no matter which denomination they prefer.

It's the Holy Spirit which draws people to the Lord - we could talk w/her about God until we pass out from exhaustion w/zero results.

Anyone worshipping God in Spirit & in Truth- no matter the tradition or style - are all a part of the Body of Christ.

That's how I see it.

Instead of being thankful she has Christian friends encouraging her to come back to the Lord your tone seems quite hostile.

I wonder why? Is it perhaps you feel since we are not involved in the RCC (and all the traditons which come w/it.) - that we are less in touch w/God & would lead her astray?

jib said...

Lisa

I might add that there are 2 questions you can ask her

1-why she believes the way she does
2- who does she say Christ is

we've been studying other faiths in our apologetics classes and the suggested means of dealing with them is to find out what they believe exactly and why they believe it and see if there is some common ground.

those imo are the most important. I'm going to have to side with Jim C on this one. Having grown up in a highly Catholic area as well as currently living in a highly Catholic area I can vouch for the fact that not all of the kids are properly taught. My husband has a much more extensive knowledge than I had ever experienced in a Catholic but he did their Sunday School equivalent through college. His family does not pray the rosary, they do not go to confession. I would have to note in all fairness though that few of them continue to be Catholic. The Catholics I grew up with and are in the community in which I live are vastly different than my husband's family. So I think it is possible to continue to be a true believer and remain in the Catholic church. I also think that some are called by God to continue in the RCC and some are not. My family's germanic roots are Catholic not Lutheran although for some generations they have all been protestant of different varieties.

speaking of cults I was supposed to ask you a specific question on JW's but now I can't remember what it was. drat

you know, I think your comment was a little unfair to Jim C. Consider it from his angle-one more than one occasion you have been less than charitable if you will about the Catholic church. Sometimes even to me you do come across as some one who doesn't believe that any Catholic could possibly be a true Christian.

I think the ones who are shouting about taking it all back will be taking it all back to where they originally came from. Might be in boxes but right now all I think it is can be summed up....Delusional!

I love watching the storms avoid us so very much and now I have to tell you, there are many in our community who now are taking 'Authority' over the storms and God, praise His Holy Name, is sending us reason upon reason to shout to the Heavens His glory. I know he loves the whole world but the whole world have dismissed him when it comes to the TV and the weatherman.

I think that storm, upon thinking it over, was an ecumenical storm and didn't have the power to buck the Blood of Jesus! Yah!

Lisa, you wrote:

Imagine being stuck on a full bus for over an hour, unable to find a new place to sit, having to be next to a person who, upon finding that you are a Christian, insists on explaining to you why you need to leave the Christian faith and become Buddhist. It doesn't matter how many times or how politely you tell him you're happy being a Christian, your seat-mate continues to tell you the errors of Christianity and how Buddhism will bring you peace. How, after an hour, do you feel?

Now replace the Buddhist with a born-again Christian and put me as a Catholic in the seat. Imagine how I feel. Now imagine it not happening just once, but almost daily. (We have some very persistent people on campus.) It's not just on campus, it's in the books, in the newspaper, on TV...

So, yes, I do have a raw nerve where this is concerned.

glad to hear all is well with you. how is Jim doing these days?

Hyde
I'd say your 1.5 cents was right on the money.

one of the most difficult things for me to learn after a lifetime in Baptist churches, being taught that all Catholics were going to hell is that not all Catholics are going to hell and there are far more protestants going to hell than one might suspect. It wasn't really until I got involved with a non denominational group in Medical school that I was really able to learn this. It's not so much about the denomination but about the personal relationship with Christ so long as the Christ is the Christ of the Bible. In fact I apparently didn't learn the complete lesson until i met and married my husband. i struggled honestly with his Catholicism because I didn't want to wake up and find myself unequally yoked down the road. i prayed a lot. He didn't have a distinct conversion story like I was accustomed to hearing. I took a different road home one day-not even a direct route home. Saw a sign in front of a church "Who are you to say who is and isn't my child?" my answer at that time. More recently, I also have found Frucht's teaching on what constitutes salvation to be a blessing.

i love you as my sister also Lisa.

JIB,
Hubby hurts all over his 6' 3" frame and he is beginning to feel every minute of his age. He loves to walk and now that is becoming a very unpleasant experience. We pray alot!

When I saw the carnage of the tornadoes yesterday, I was so very thankful that we were spared once again. When DJH was watching the TV coverage of the storm results he looked at me and asked "when did you start praying about this storm?". I said the minute the expert on the Weather Channel said it was going to form. That was on Saturday evening. He said it would include at least 8 to 10 super cells and the incident for tornadoes would match that number. He said it would one of the most dangerous times we have ever faced.

Now you all remember, I have been around for a loonnnnnngggggg time! So I remembered the super cell storm that formed in 1974. XENIA,OHIO WIPEOUT was the worst in US history and I knew it was the perfect conditions for a repeat last night.

Those storms are not the product of God's making. The scriptures tell us that he is not the author of evil and so, he didn't create the situation that formed the storm. I think you all get the picture. Prayer does change things and then God gets the glory He so richly deserves.

Have a great, safe and love filled day,
with great....................

Found the link to this on "Spirit Daily" under the heading, Occult watch: Nashville. Even more alarming considering what the city is going through now.

<><

Jen said...

Wow. A couple of thoughts came to mind after reading that Nashville link. First, if so much architecture, etc. around the world is set up to connect with the 'other world' then no wonder God's going to plow the whole thing under and start from scratch (like He did with the flood.)
Second, when I could follow the author's explanations, I still felt he was making a whole lotta assumptions/leaps to connect dots. Honestly, my Josh tells stories that are as equally fantastic and imaginative!
Third, he seems to revere the serpent and really miss the point of evil in that form. Interestingly, my devotional today was about not being "dust conscious" - speaking of the woman in Luke 13 who was bowed over for 18 years.

"Now, dust is the devil’s food. The Bible tells us that God cursed the devil to eat dust all the days of his life. (Genesis 3:14) Dust represents death. (Genesis 3:19) The devil wants you to be like him — to fall flat on your belly, crawl and eat dust. To eat dust is to feed on your shortcomings and lack, until you constantly feel that there is so much in your life that you need to clean up. You may not be physically bowed over, but like the woman, you become dust-conscious and life every day is a struggle.
Having a dust-consciousness also affects the way you see others. You look at people’s faults all the time. You point out their shortcomings and rake up their past failures. When you are dust-conscious, you find your relationships robbed of peace and joy.
And if you, like the woman, keep looking at the dust, before long, that inward position of dust-consciousness becomes so entrenched that you become the devil’s food because dust is what he eats. God’s Word describes him as being like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8)"

It's sad to read how he elevates all the work of the enemy and looks forward to seeing it continually unfold, all the while becoming more and more ensnared in a trap that he himself is helping to build.

we moved to the Xenia area about 8 years after the tornado and there was still debris in the trees-like washing machines etc. there have been several tornadoes since that time that have followed the exact same route but have not been as damaging. Interestingly enough there is an Indian mound in the area along the path of the tornado.

creepy link. I guess the question is how much was deliberate with the layout and architecture and how much is conspiracy theory.

regarding Dragon's-interesting that you brought that up. We were eating at PF Chang's last night and they had on their placemat that the dragon is the symbol of water and the "lord" of water and that dragons aren't scary but really good and wise and kind. I suspect that is an accurate portrayal of Chinese myth regarding the dragon in which case not hard or difficult to see the satanic hand behind their myths

The husband was suddenly laid off from his police officer job last week and they were left with no insurance immediately. COBRA was an option, but very expensive and he was the only income (with 3 other children.) A day later, a couple who heard of their plight took over the insurance coverage payments and will be handling that expense til Jim finds a new job and insurance kicks in. Hi, here's the article I spotted:

Netanyahu turns to Bible in tussle over Jerusalem

By Dan Williams Dan Williams – 49 mins ago

JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Beset by questions about the future of Jerusalem in talks with the Palestinians, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reached for the Bible on Wednesday to stake out the Jewish state's disputed claim on the city.

Netanyahu told a parliamentary session commemorating Israel's capture of East Jerusalem from Jordan in the 1967 war that "Jerusalem" and its alternative Hebrew name "Zion" appear 850 times in the Old Testament, Judaism's core canon.

"As to how many times Jerusalem is mentioned in the holy scriptures of other faiths, I recommend you check," he said.

Citing such ancestry, Israel calls all of Jerusalem its "indivisible" capital -- a designation not recognized abroad, where many powers support Palestinian claims to East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state.

Jerusalem, at the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, is also revered by Muslims because it houses al-Aqsa mosque, Islam's third-holiest shrine after Mecca and Medina, on a plaza Jews revere as the vestige of two biblical Jewish temples.

Heckled by a lawmaker from Israel's Arab minority, Netanyahu offered a lesson in comparative religion from the lectern.

"Because you asked: Jerusalem is mentioned 142 times in the New Testament, and none of the 16 various Arabic names for Jerusalem is mentioned in the Koran. But in an expanded interpretation of the Koran from the 12th century, one passage is said to refer to Jerusalem," he said.

Asked about Netanyahu's citations, Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat said: "I find it very distasteful this use of religion to incite hatred and fear."

MANY RULERS

Destroyed as a Jewish capital by the Romans in the 1st century AD, Jerusalem was a Christian city under their Byzantine successors before falling to Muslim Arabs in the 7th. European Crusaders took it back for a century before 700 years of Muslim control until Britain defeated the Ottoman Turks in 1917.

As Britain prepared to quit, the United Nations proposed international rule for the city, along with nearby Bethlehem, in 1947 as a "corpus separatum."

That proposal was overtaken by fighting that left Israel holding West Jerusalem in 1948 and Jordanian forces in East Jerusalem. Israel then took the rest in the Six Day War of 1967.

The city, within boundaries defined by Israel but not recognized internationally, is now home to 750,000 people, two in three of them Jews and the rest mostly Muslim Palestinians.

Netanyahu did not refer in his speech to indirect peace negotiations with the Palestinians that resumed this month after 1 1/2 years of U.S. mediation. But he said Israel would retain all of Jerusalem while ensuring freedom of worship at its sites.

Such assertions are challenged by Palestinians given that Israel, over the last decade of fighting, has often banned their access to al-Aqsa. Christians in the adjacent West Bank complain of similar difficulties in reaching Jerusalem churches.

"There is no undercutting, nor do I intend to undercut, the connection of others to Jerusalem," Netanyahu said.

"But I do confront the attempt to undercut and warp or obfuscate the unique connection that we, the people of Israel, have to the capital of Israel." (Editing by Samia Nakhoul

Galaxy 15, one of 15 satellites that until recently transmitted the SyFy channel signal, has been replaced in space by its colleague Galaxy 12 after being zapped by a solar flare, going AWOL from its assigned duty location, and ignoring communications from its owner Intelsat. But the interesting part of the story is that Galaxy 15 continues to orbit Earth even without instructions. A satellite with a mind of its own? According to Buzz Log, scientists note that the fully functioning Galaxy 15 is capable of theft, in particular theft of another satellite's signal. Were that to happen, television viewers tuned to a channel whose signal was pilfered by Galaxy 15 could face dark screens. Though the solar flare zapped Galaxy 15 on April 5, Intelsat still has not reigned in the rogue satellite. On Sunday, Intelsat attempted unsuccessfully to shut down Galaxy 15's transponders. Seems Galaxy 15 isn't willing to go quietly. According to Slashdot, the errant satellite carries a Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS ) repeater that contributes to the accuracy of GPS device functioning. Galaxy 12 carries the same C-band payloads as Galaxy 15, but not the L-band payload used by the Federal Aviation Administration to guide landing airplanes. Despite its status as a rogue satellite, there are no indications that the Galaxy 15 satellite poses any threat of falling to earth. Numerous other satellites have fallen to earth in the past. Because the earth's surface is ¾ water, the odds are against a falling satellite coming down in a population center. The most notorious falling satellite scare occurred in the summer of 1979 when Skylab, an abandoned NASA space station, plummeted toward earth. The 78-ton station broke into pieces and quietly settled into the Indian Ocean for the most part, with some debris scattered across western Australia.

For some unknown reason (at least to me) the Lord has put mainly Catholic people in my life.

The lady I just got the Bibles for @ dance class- I just found out this week- her family is Catholic.

God places these people on my heart to speak to & encourage them back into a relationship w/Him.

I guess the methods I employ to encourage them- God will use regardless of all of my shortcomings. He will speak to their hearts and direct their steps.

Whether they stay in a Catholic Church or go elsewhere I leave it to Him.

Biblically - what do "I" think is a close reference to the Catholic faith? I've mentioned it before.

The Church of Thyatira. (Which means continual sacrifice.)

Most of the general Churches today seem to be a close reference to the Church of Laodicean.(Which means people's opinion.)

No matter - We should all be an equal opportunity encourager - all pointing back to Jesus Christ.

(I speak to & encourage everyone I meet. It doesn't matter what religious background they come from. And that includes Lutherans, Anglicans, & whoever crosses my path. My favorite topic is the Lord so if they meet me then they'll probably hear about it.)

If whatever man inspired traditions or demonic seductions seem to be misleading the person away from Christ- we have to care enough about that soul & be willing to point it out. Even if it means taking on ridicule to do so.

That is what crucifying ourselves so that Christ can work though us is all about.

It's much easier to just give the backslider a pat on the back & say
that's O.K. I know that the Church you have attended doesn't teach you the Word of God but that's ok.
Just go home & read your Bible.

We have to use tact & be Spirit led. The Lord has created us all individually & continues to work in us, though us, despite all of our craziness. The way one person approaches things will differ from another's perspective.

And the best part if it - God wants it that way. Meanwhile, we can continue to learn about the grace of God & how we can look @ others though His loving eyes.

We are all a work in progress. So hopefully also more mature in the Lord than we were a couple years ago & will continue on....

Shalom, all! I just realized that I haven't mentioned on this site why I was gone all last week. Out of the blue, I got the opportunity to have week-long training in getting a Home Energy Raters System (HERS) certification. If you see houses that are advertised as "EnergyStar Housing", a HERS member must be the one to do the measurements that give the rating, which is recognized by the Federal govt. as well as 14 state governments and which allow the buyer/seller to qualify for special financing or tax credits. The City of Dubuque just got a CDBG to measure and bring 2,000 houses up to EnergyStar standards.

When I say this was out of the blue, I mean that I didn't even find out I was accepted until 3 days before the class started, and didn't get my study materials until 2 days before. (They're usually sent out 3-4 WEEKS ahead of time.) The 8 other guys all had 10-20 years construction experience; I didn't even know what a joist was.

With this in mind, I feel pretty good that I missed passing my exam by only 1 question. So I'm trying to study now and arrange for a retest at my library, and having a hard time focusing.

This isn't a job where I'd get hired by someone and have a regular salary. I'd have to set up my own business and work as a contractor. This morning I was asking G_D why I couldn't have some stability in employment, and it struck me: G_D doesn't want me to have stability; at least not in the way I've been wanting it. I've been wanting a job that will provide a regular salary with health insurance, etc. IOW, I've been wanting to depend on the job. G_D wants me to depend on Him.

So I'll muddle on; get my certification, get a small business loan to get going on this, and see what G_D will send.

By the way, the last mild rattling in our region took place in Benton County Arkansas. That would be Bella Vista, Bentonville and such. In fact, the people that purchased my daughter and son-in-law's home in Bella Vista told them that they felt it but it was a light one (2.3 I think).

My brother-in-law is a geologist and he is quite concerned about the current events taking place on a fairly regular basis. He lives in the county just north of ours. About 30 minutes away and quite a lot of BIG hills surrounding them. Lots of those bluffs I saw in my dream.

Good to have you back at the Cave and I will be praying for your encounter to matter greatly. So your Abba has got your attention! Good for him.

Lisa, the video page you linked to has a whole bunch of "related videos" that deal with "Nubiru" and "Illuminati", so I'm going out on a limb to say that these guys are a little wacko.

One of the links, however, was to a video called "Sfera Con Sfera" at the United Nations (9/11/08). "Sfera con sfera", is Italian for "Sphere within a sphere". Here is the text accompanying that video:

"Sfera Con Sfera" ("Sphere Within a Sphere" in English) is a sculpture by Arnaldo Pomodoro. The one in this video sits outside the United Nations in New York City and is one of a series of six. The other sculptures are located around the world.

One of the comments to this video points out that the interior sphere matches the exterior sphere of the one in the Vatican. I don't have enough interest to research this, but I'd wager that the interior sphere of the one in the Vatican matches the exterior sphere of one of the other spheres, and so on, until #6, where the interior sphere of that one matches the exterior sphere of the one in NYC. Interesting conceptually, but not particularly symbolic.

Also, one of the comments to this second video states, "...If the vatican has it it MEANS SOMETHING IMPORTANT to them" Balderdash! This isn't owned by the Vatican, it's owned by the Vatican Museum! (Which is actually one of a dozen or so museums owned and run by the Vatican.) If you follow this logic, that means that if one of the museums run by the City of New York should display something like an original Egyptian "Book of the Dead", then that must mean that the mayor and/or the City Council are all pagans!

Museums everywhere are mostly self-run. In this case, provided one of the museums isn't putting on a display of "The Orgy in Art: Then and Now", the higher-ups at the Vatican aren't going to pay it any mind.

jim.carroll said...

I couldn't leave well enough alone, so I Googled "Arnaldo Pomodoro". Here is a link to a page of images of some of his work. He sculpts a lot using spheres, cones, and other basic shapes; and I find I like quite a few of the works on this page -- the simplicity of the shapes contrasting with the complexity of the details. I have to wonder how much influence he had on the design of the Death Star in "Star Wars"!

Here are some interesting news reports I've found here and there:

Was The Yellowstone Event Prophesied?
Interesting article from The Christian Post

Editor laments Pentecostals’ `epidemic of moral failure’
Review of book by Lee Grady, editor of "Charisma" magazine. The review points out: What does concern him, however, is fallen leaders who try to emerge from scandal without publicly acknowledging their sin, repenting, submitting to discipline or undergoing counseling.

In other words, it’s not the fall, but the response, that matters.

Empire State Building Stiffs Mother Teresa
I know this may initially strike you as just a Catholic issue, but it speaks to the shift of our culture away from Judeo-Christian ethics to a totalitarian ethic. Mother Teresa received 124 awards, including the Nobel Peace Prize, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Medal of Freedom. She built hundreds of orphanages, hospitals, hospices, health clinics, homeless shelters, youth shelters and soup kitchens all over the world, and is revered in India for her work. She created the first hospice in Greenwich Village for AIDS patients. Not surprisingly, she was voted the most admired woman in the world three years in a row in the mid-1990s. But she is not good enough to be honored by the Empire State Building.

Last year the Empire State Building shone in red and yellow lights to honor the 60th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Revolution. Yet under its founder, Mao Zedong, the Communists killed 77 million people. In other words, the greatest mass murderer in history merited the same tribute being denied to Mother Teresa.
The page includes a link to a petition to the owner of the Empire State Building to overrule the committee's decision.

Laying On Of Hands: Widespread Practice Can Be Both A 'Danger' Or A Gift Of The Holy Spirit
The article points out that 1 Timothy 5:22 tells us, "Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands, and do not share in the sins of others." If you are not spiritually prepared, you can transfer your sin to someone else, or have their sin imparted onto you. Discern through prayer and fasting.

Not sure if it has been in the national news, but the Catholic Church in Vt has chosen to settle with 17 victims of child rape and molestation to the amt of 20 million dollars.

To pay this, the Catholic church will be selling off some of their prime property.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg...I know of other victims whose cases are coming up in the fall.

So sad for everyone. $ will help..but can never fix what has taken place.

Or- why do people want these art installations in front of their buildings? Wouldn't they pay a hefty price for one?

They do have a death star feel to them. Just looking @ face value-to me it looks like a new planet being born from within an old planet. The old looks like its cracking & wearing away as the new one emerges.

So could it represent the New World Order? Possibly.

Looks like a representation of some sort of rebirth.

The band is going on tour in a van and has asked the host churches to allow them to sleep on pews or pitch a tent in the church lot. Losing the RV means losing the kitchen. So, they also asked the churches to feed the band for the day.

In between gigs these guys have to cover their own meals.

What I'm asking for is ideas for eating healthy yet inexpensive meals on the road. Please send all suggestions, links to locations or whatever to my email.

Franklin Graham: Christians Will Lose the Power to Pray Outside Church Walls ‘Maybe in My Lifetime’

Has anyone read "APOLLYON RISING 2012,by Thomas Horn"?

I haven't resolved my "Book" issues. Without fail I start reading one book then before I finish it- pick up another & start reading that too.(Hopefully, I can contain myself from starting into a 3rd.)

Anyway- I'm only began chapter 2 but Oh My Gosh....You would not believe what some of our "founding fathers" really believed & said.

What a bunch of "Christian" frauds!

"When I see thoughout the greater part of this book [the Bible] scarcely anything but a history of the grossest vices and a collection of the most paltry and contemptible tales, I cannot dishonor my Creator by calling it by His name.

What is it the Bible teaches us?- rapine, cruelty, and murder. What is it the Testament teaches us?- to believe that the Almighty committed debauchery with a woman engaged to be married, and the belief of this debauchery is called faith.

It is the fable of Jesus Christ, as told in the New Testament, and the wild and visionary doctrine raised thereon, against which I contend. The story, taking it as it is told, is blasphemously obscene."

Thomas Paine

Not withstanding quotes from :

Thomas Jefferson
Benjamin Franklin
John Adams
George Washington

It's been a real eye opener. The same veil of deception continues on in politics today.

I have the same issues with books.

as to the founding fathers-your source is only partially correct. I would agree that Paine was an outright agnostic/atheist but Beck has had some folks on who have written books using original source material and I firmly believe that Washington was a true Christian. Sam Adams the same. Franklin is a bit more iffy imo as is Jefferson although Beck is convinced they are more than Deists-his reasoning is faulty imo. However he has had a guest on that owns the largest private collection of original source material of many of the founding fathers. I would also note that the faith of our founding fathers was not called into question until the progressive movement started up in this country. The progressives of the early 20th century are the ones that started the notion that our founders were deists, not true Christians, and were just rich white slaved owners.

Gulf Oil Disaster & Biblical Prophecy Parallels

The pastor to George Washington for 20yrs was Bishop James White.

Many people sought him out in order to give a testimony of George Washington's Christian faith. Here is one reply:

"I do not believe that any degree of recollection will bring to my mind any fact which would prove General Washington to have been a believer in the Christian revelation further than may be hoped from his constant attendance upon Christian worship, in connection with the general reserve of his character."

The reason why people hounded this bishop is because in all of his written correspondence, Washington never made a clear confession in belief of Jesus Christ. There is one quote he made: "the religion of Jesus Christ". But not that he had personal faith in Him.

Dec 27, 1792 Washington wrote to the Mass. Grand Lodge: " I sincerely pray that the Great Architect of the Universe may bless you and receive you hereafter into his immortal Temple."

The Center for Disease Control has issued a warning about a new
virulent strain of this old disease. The disease is called Gonorrhea Lectim. It's pronounced "Gonna re-elect 'em," and it is a terrible obamanation.

The disease is contracted through dangerous and high risk behavior
involving putting your cranium up your rectum. Many victims contracted it in 2008 . . . but now most people, after having been infected for the past 1-2
years, are starting to realize how destructive this sickness is.

It's sad because Gonorrhea Lectim is easily cured with a new drug
just coming on the market called Votemout. You take the first dose in 2010 and the second dose in 2012 and simply don't engage in such behavior again; otherwise, it could become permanent and eventually wipe out all life as we
know it.

Several states are already on top of this, like Virginia and New
Jersey , and apparently now Massachusetts, with many more seeing the writing on the wall.

I first met David Barton at Charles Stanley's church. I made a special trip to hear his presentations.

In my opinion, he is the best at presenting the case for our Christian founding.

David is Founder and President of Wallbuilders, a wonderful organization that goes around the country teaching in our churches about our beginnngs. He has also written amicus briefs in cases at the U.S. Supreme Court.

If you go to Wallbuilders webpage and click on "About Us," you can learn what they are all about.

Also, their library is a wonderful source of information.

You can see his presentations in the archived messages on Dr. Stanley's webpage.

I just prefer the presentations by David Barton and my grandchildren just ate up his presentations.

I am well aware of the fact that in a few short years, this information is not going to matter to anyone. We will be ruling and reigning with Christ and I don't think the history of the founding of America will be important to those living in the millennium.

But it warms my heart to hear my children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren discuss our true founding with grateful hearts.

truly it won't matter then but it does matter now I think. perhaps other than the judgment of God the reason the US falls is lack of interest and that we don't deserve what we have because we don't honor where we came from. my thanks came from not wanting to attribute to the others what belongs to Barton as he was actually the one I was thinking of. He has been quite interesting to watch on Beck's programs. I wish I had been able to attend the day long tour that Beck has going but even though it was close I couldn't get away to get to it. Barton is one of the men traveling with Beck.

it has really struck me anew recently how amazing this country really was at it's founding in a way I hadn't previously appreciated. What made our country unique at it's founding was equal justice under the law. To an extent it is still that way. An immigrant from China said her family was just blown away that she could make a living here by renting property-they kept saying don't do it you'll never make it because you won't have the law on your side unless you bribe them. wow. the stuff we take for granted.

Just received this article from a precious friend and I wanted to share it with some more precious friends. Hope it warms the cockles of your heart.

TWO HORSES:

There is a place in the countryside with a field that has two horses in it.

From a distance, each horse looks like any other horse. But if you stop your car, or are walking by, you will notice something quite amazing.... Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind. His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made a good home for him. This alone is amazing.

If you stand nearby and listen, you will hear the sound of a bell. Looking around for the source of the sound, you will see that it comes from the smaller horse in the field. Attached to the horse's halter is a small bell. It lets the blind friend know where the other horse is, so he can follow.

As you stand and watch these two friends, you'll see that the horse with the bell is always checking on the blind horse, and that the blind horse will listen for the bell and then slowly walk to where the other horse is, trusting that he will not be led astray.

When the horse with the bell returns to the shelter of the barn each evening, It stops occasionally and looks back, making sure that the blind friend isn't too far behind to hear the bell.

Like the owner of these two horses, God does not throw us away just because we are not perfect or because we have problems or challenges.

He watches over us and even brings others into our lives to help us when we are in need..

Sometimes we are the blind horse, being guided by the little ringing bell of those who God places in our lives.

Other times we are the guide horse, helping others to find their way.....

Good friends are like that... You may not always see them, but you know they are always there.

Please listen for my bell and I'll listen for yours.

And remember...
Be kinder than necessary-
Everyone you meet is fighting
Some kind of battle.

Live simply,
Love generously,
Care deeply,
Speak kindly......

Leave the rest to God

DH and I have been watching the America series on the History channel, and though it isn't written from the spiritual perspective, it's been a terrific reminder of all that was overcome from the first ship of settlers arriving to what we enjoy today. Last night was about the building of NY's skyscrapers and the Statue of Liberty. It showed how the men walked the beams untethered, hundred of feet up with wind blowing all around, and they did it because it paid double per day what other construction work paid ($4 vs $2). I actually thought I was going to be sick just watching that segment because it showed the view the men had under their feet. UNBELIEVABLE. I don't think I could name a single person today who would willingly do that for income.
The whole series has re-instilled a sense of gratitude in us and really a sense of wonder at how so much true struggle/peril/risk those men and women faced, just to have the chance to live better than they had been. To say that we are blessed today is an understatement of immense proportion.

I loved the prayer and thank you. I needed to read that this morning so I can start my day off with the right attitude. What beautiful thoughts it brings.

Hydeho, go for it. The article was sent to me by a very precious friend and I am sure it is supposed to be shared with many others. ALSO: WHEN?

Doesn't ATTY also live in the general area of San Diego? Then there are also well known people who were bloggers here.

I had the opportunity yesterday to visit with one of the local merchants while getting some needed items for home. She is from the Holiness church here and a very nice lady. She and her husband began their specialized business about 12 years ago and highly regarded. As I was searching for the items I needed, we began to talk about the things happening all over the world. Suddenly, she stopped speaking and looking me squarely in the eyes, asked me, are you born again and a true believer in Jesus Christ? Now this lady knows what church I used to go to and her question was out of the ordinary for her.

When I answered her "Yes I am washed in the blood of the Lamb, trusting totally in him and trying every day to live my life as if I would be evacuated to heaven any second!".

She very dramatically heaved a huge sigh and said, I have promised that I would ask that question of everyone I came in contact with because HE IS COMING VERY, VERY SOON and He doesn't want anyone left behind because no one asked them.

We both cried! At first it crossed my mind it was because I had been a little under the weather and didn't feel real great but I know now it wasn't any of that. God is turning up the heat on all of the peculiar ones (that's all of us, you know) and the time to fool around with the things of God has passed and good riddance.

I believe the shaking is going to get stronger and stronger starting at the altar! So, I have determined to straighten up before the shakeup! Please help me and ring the bell often all of you. And if the little bell doesn't do it, an email or facebook will do too.

Speaking of sharing....I'd appreciate prayers for my visit tonight to the triplet mom I've become friends with, Valerie. Her life continues to be in a constant cycle of upheaval and new problems have come up this week that are tearing her apart, physically/emotionally. The last time she called me, she was worrying about a child-related issue and I felt the Holy Spirit take over and I just shared for 10 minutes about Jesus and all the rest/relief/healing He has in store for her. I'm sure she thought I had lost my marbles, but giving her advice of the kind she was seeking wouldn't have made any difference, a band-aid at best. So I'm going to have coffee with her tonight after the kids go to bed and let her vent, etc. But I fully intend to make myself available to God again because He just won't stop bringing her and her family to my heart. I'm praying that all of her kids will be really tired and will stay in bed and she'll be energized enough to stay awake while we chat. I know she's hungry, but there are so many layers of pain/distrust/bad teaching to peel away. So glad I'm only the messenger and not the one responsible for removing that scar tissue.

Grany, your encounter today reminded me of the song "Soon" by Adie Camp (Jeremy's wife.) Check it out on Youtube. Really stirring lyrics and I'm thinking of posting it on my FB page.

I'd like to ask your opinion (the collective you) about scriptural translations. Specifically, how do you feel about inclusive language?

Over on CAF the subject of being prepared came up. When talking about spiritual preparations, the question arose over which Bible version to choose when stocking up on stuff to pass out. One person mentioned how Mother Angelica uses "The Jerusalem Bible" (which is supposed to be a very good translation) but only uses the 1966 edition. "The New Jerusalem Bible" was issued in the 1980's and is the same translation, except it uses "gender-neutral inclusive language." Others made the same complaint about other versions. For example, some said that the Revised Standard Version is an excellent translation and the one to be used for Bible Study, but complained that the New Revised Standard Version fell into the "gender-neutral inclusive language" trap.

So I'm looking for some input, here, about how important the use or non-use of inclusive language is when studying scripture.

(FWIW, when I get the money to start stocking up on things again, I'll be buying the "St. Joseph's New American Bible (NAB)" NAB is what I would call a "good enough" translation. RSV is more scholarly, and it doesn't have the flow of the language of other translations, but it's a readable translation. The St. Joseph's edition contains LOTS of maps, footnotes, and commentaries, it's compact, and best of all, it's only $9 for the soft-cover edition.)

I like the New International version

I don't like the gender neutral editions. but then I'm not especially bothered by lack of gender neutral language either. I think the gender neutral stuff can go to far-such as denying God as a Father figure and I think otherwise it loses something in the translation and may impact the original meaning. e.g. the feeding of the 5000 is understood to be 5000 men and the figure does not include women and children. so obviously far more than 5000 were present. if the translation says 5000 people that would be inaccurate.

The New King James isn't bad either

if you want something nice with maps, although they do tend to slide toward coventant theology, I really like my archeology NIV. lots of great maps and historical commentaries. unfortunately it is huge and heavy.

You know what? There has been so much shakin goin on that it's hard to tell what is an earthquake & what isn't.

I didn't notice anything "as" an earthquake but I hear & feel things rumbling around often.
Many times it's just a Miramar jet/helicopter or police helicopter.

So I guess that unless it's REALLY obvious like that 7.2 one - I'm basically desensitized.

Grany- If someone said that to me I'd be: FREAKED out. Thanks for passing along the info. Wow.

The History Channel had interviewed L.A. Marzulli for an upcoming "Alien/UFO" show & it just aired last night.

As expected they chopped shopped his interview and instead of allowing him to present the Biblical view of such things (as he intended) they made it seem like he agreed that "Noah" was actually a Nephilim.

They mentioned something about the Ark of the Covenant being a nuclear device- what hog wash!

Hey Jim C,
My 1 1/2 cents re: bible translations.

My dad was fluent in Greek and learned a sprinkling of Hebrew. He taught me to stay with the NAS version, as it's the most literal, but not necessarily easiest to read version. I still like the old King James, definitely easiest to memorize for me. I know many churches, including my current one, like the NIV, but Missler, who knows Hebrew and Greek a lot better than I ever will this side of Home says that it's full of misinterpretations and the phraseology takes away some of the burden or duty from many passages, it becomes less accusatory and more passive in form. Another point he, Chuck, makes is that for memorization use a version that has been around. I've already made this mistake with my kids. Our family memorizes verses and recites them after dinner, but they sometimes learn NIV or RSV at school and then at dinner I don't know if they are dropping words, forgetting or using a different translation. My advice, use a translation at least 30 yrs old and stick to it. Avoid the alliterations and summary versions like the black plaque, unless it's the children's rhyming bible for your grandkids. BTW, how's the new inspector job going?

Granny, your friend is right. The Holy Spirit keeps giving me the feeling we'll all be outta here SOON. Come on!!!

On a personal note, work up here in Colorado Springs is good. I'll be going to get my family from TX in 9 days but who's counting.
I'm having the most interesting hikes all by my lonesome way out in Pikes Peak nat forest. Since I'm alone I just talk to the Lord out loud and no one but the rock Marmots can think I'm crazy. Surrounded by His creation's beauty I can't help feeling that that is how Adam must have felt before the fall, or how we'll feel in a couple thousand years on the new earth. But then, we'll be able to run by Him pace for pace and swim, jump, laugh. Don't forget the goal everyone.

In His Grip,
Scott

On the gender inclusive language question, I don't have a strong opinion though I lean against it.

Since I don't understand the original languages, I don't think I'm qualified to make a judgment on the what is most accurate.

Having said that, I think accuracy and fidelity to what the writers were trying to communicate is most important.

If the aim of using gender inclusive language is to be politically correct and please man (or should I say please humans), I don't see any value in that. If we can retain the fidelity of what was written and have a choice between saying for example, man or mankind or humanity, then I have no problem with the gender inclusive language.

The aim should be accuracy, not political correctness.

Jim G. said...

Language translation is a fascinating subject to me.

Is it better to retain the meaning of each word used or is it better to capture the idea being communicated? I think that both are valuable.

NAS I believe is a very good translation for those who care about individual words. It tends to be a more literal translation (or so I've read).

NIV I believe is better for those who are more concerned with capturing the idea. It tends to paraphrase in order to capture the meaning behind the phrases used.

There are definitely pros and cons to both. We are very blessed to have many good English translations.

Lisa, that was one of the most disturbing things I've ever read. I then remembered that was the site that posted the phone Sorcha Faal article about NKorea torpedoing the DeepWater oil rig. Well, I did some checking and found an even older source for your link. It was written in 2007, and it is an exact copy, lending credence to the newer article. It also has a copy of the front of the booklets.

What a terrific shame. And it's so disturbing that there are many in our own country that want a European style gov't.

The article ends with a quote:
"When men cease to believe in God, they do not thereafter believe in nothing, they then become capable of believing anything."

I like the English Standard Version (ESV). I started using it some years ago after I learned about it at a L'Abri conference in Rochester, MN (which I try to attend every year. This is also the version Vishal Mangalwadi uses and I trust his judgement.

On gender neutality I don't have a strong opinion but if they are going to do it, I want to know in the notes what they've done. Here is an example from the ESV (verse and note):

Romans 1:13
I want you to know, brothers,[1] that I have often intended to come to you (but thus far have been prevented), in order that I may reap some harvest among you as well as among the rest of the Gentiles.
[1]Or brothers and sisters. The plural Greek word adelphoi (translated “brothers”) refers to siblings in a family. In New Testament usage, depending on the context, adelphoi may refer either to men or to both men and women who are siblings (brothers and sisters) in God's family, the church

Here is the fist paragraph of the ESV translation philosophy:

The ESV is an “essentially literal” translation that seeks as far as possible to capture the precise wording of the original text and the personal style of each Bible writer. As such, its emphasis is on “word-for-word” correspondence, at the same time taking into account differences of grammar, syntax, and idiom between current literary English and the original languages. Thus it seeks to be transparent to the original text, letting the reader see as directly as possible the structure and meaning of the original.

I should also add that I frequently use the KJV with Strong's.

Quick update on my visit with Val....had a good time catching up (got home at 2AM! Yikes!) and hearing more about the troubles with her mom living with them. Long story, but Val's mom is in major need of a "heart" transplant via the cross. She was hurt deeply as a child by her stepmother/father and is now taking that anger, resentment, payback out on Val. Val is in ALOT of pain from RA and no meds are working at this point, except major painkillers. I believe much of it is stress-induced.
During the last hour of our visit, I was able to share about Jesus loving her and her family and having an amazing plan for the future for them. I also shared about the many blessings brought by His resurrection, including healing and restoration. She said she's just afraid to believe healing is possible because of how crushing it would be to find out it's not true for her. However, she agreed to stay open to more sharing and said she's read the booklet I left for her, along with some Christians music. So I plan to visit again in a week or so, armed with more of the Word. In the meantime, I'm praying fervently that God will reach her and prepare her to move out in faith toward Him.
Thanks for keeping me in prayer....I was very peaceful and calm about sharing (usually I have a knotted stomach when I want to share that deeply with someone). Now that she's shown interest, I'll go forward with even more peace and eagerness.

Scott, thanks for your input. I've been a bit distracted re: studying for my licensing and I am nowhere near ready to take the test. One reason for the distraction has been helping my daughter to move in with me for the summer session. The other distraction will need a great deal of prayer.

I found out from my ex-wife last night that my youngest daughter, the one that will graduate from high school next year at age 16, may be checking herself into a residential treatment facility, depending on a recommendation from her psychiatrist. She has been undergoing therapy for the past seven years or so after it was revealed that my ex's boyfriend was molesting her. This past year she has been exhibiting a great deal of anger, even to the point of cutting herself, As she said to her mother, she just wants a break from life.

So your prayers for her are gratefully appreciated.

Will be praying for your daughter. I so sincerely hope that legal proceedings will begin against the person responsible for the molestation.

As for my favorite translation of the bible~~~ are you ready for this one? Hebrew-Greek Study Bible published by AMG with notes by Zodhiates, who is/was the editor. I have the King James version but it has extensive notes and reference material in addition. Also a Strongs type reference system. Another one I really like is Life in the Spirit Study Bible published by Zondervan.

Next to the KJV I prefer the NAS but that is just a matter of choice. A good way to check what you will be getting in any of the translations is to search out the various translations available on the internet. One site I really do like is BIBLE STUDY TOOLS because there is such a rich source of references and translations available.

That way you could tell by the formatting what the physical edition is going to be like. I use it on a regular basis and like the ability to have it where ever a computer is located. Lots of good study sources.

The storms rolled into Oklahoma yesterday evening and then rolled right on out again. Thank you Lord for all of your provisions.

jim.carroll said...

Grany, thanks for the prayers. The molestation occurred 6 years ago, and was discovered when her mom found an extremely suggestive email from him to my middle daughter (who was molested also). He was extradited back from Maryland. The prosecutor originally wasn't going to prosecute because of "the age of the victims" and worked out a plea deal. David would plead "No contest" and he would get a slap on the wrist. The judge, bless his soul, after reading the Victim Impact Statement decided against accepting the recommendation of the DA and sentenced him to 5 years. He served 3, is out on parole, and is on the state's Sex Offender Registry for a few more years.

So he is a marked man.

A man dies and goes to heaven. St. Peter meets him at the Pearly Gates and says, 'Here's how it works. You need 100 points to make it into heaven. You tell me all the good things you've done, and I give you a certain number of points for each item, depending on how good it was. When you reach 100 points, you get in.'

'Okay,' the man says, 'I was married to the same woman for 50 years and never cheated on her, even in my heart.'

'That's wonderful,' says St.Peter, 'that's worth two points!'

'Two points?' he says. 'Well, I attended church all my life and supported its ministry with my tithe and service.'

'Terrific!' says St.Peter.. 'That's certainly worth a point.'

'One point!?!!' 'I started a soup kitchen in my city and worked in a shelter for homeless veterans.'

'Fantastic, that's good for two more points,' he says.

'Two points!?!! 'Exasperated, the man cries. 'At this rate the only way I'll get into heaven is by the grace of God.'
'Bingo! 100 points ! Come on in!'

Jim Carroll,

No, I did not get to hear the program with Monte Judah that you referred to. I do not have a TV and I curently don't have RealPlayer on my system, so I can't watch or listen online.

I did have the pleasure of meeting the Rabbi and his wife several years ago when we were in Oklahoma and I attended a service where he was the speaker at another congregation.

I also got an invitation to attend a special get together that his church is having to celebrate the Feast of Chavuot this Sunday at Crawford, Oklahoma at the lake. But that is just a little too far for us to go, so we are going to celebrate Chavuot at a messianic congregation just over the border in Idaho this year.

I pray that everyone has a blessed day celebrating Chavuot (Pentecost) this Sunday. It is not often that we get to celebrate this day on the correct day.

And by the way, I have 3 different Jewish calendars printed in Israel, and they all say that Chavuot in on May 23rd. So, I have no idea why the Hebrew Calendar that some spoke of says differently.

In Christ,
Avi L.

jim.carroll said...

Avi L., Shalom! I think it's the "printed in Israel" that is the key. The Hebcal.com website says, "Parashat Nasso (in Diaspora)Shavuot I" So it could be that Shavuot began on Wed. for those Jews outside of Israel, but is this Sabbath for those living in Israel. I'll have to ask around.

As for watching videos, you don't NEED Realplayer, unless you're trying to watch something encoded with Realplay. If you have a Windows system, you can use Media Player to watch this video. It's also available as an MP3 audio file.

While originally touted as a cure for pollution, when it escaped and mutated further it started eating all the plastic water pipes, all the plastic insulation around electrical conduits, etc.

I can't help but think, Dear God, an organism against which no natural defense exists.

Shalom, all! Here's something that just struck me. On another board we were discussing when the Big Collapse will occur. Someone mentioned her worries about Korea. I posted that I wasn't worried about Korea, I was worried about Israel, and how when (not if) war breaks out, the Middle Eastern Oil Spigot will be shut off. Given the state of the European economy, that would cause its collapse which would drag the US down with it. I gave the date of that happening as July 20, which is 9 Av this year. I also said I believed the war would be the War of Psalm 83 and that I felt it would last about 3 weeks.

Then, in explaining the significance of 9 Av, it struck me: 17 Tamuz (which is June 29 this year) is the beginning of the Three Weeks: The walls of Jerusalem were breached on 17 Tamuz, and three weeks later the First Temple fell on 9 Av.

Does it strike anyone else that it would be ... fitting ... for an attack on Israel to begin on 17 Tamuz, and end on 9 Av with an Israeli victory? "Thus says the LORD of hosts: The fast days of the fourth, the fifth, the seventh, and the tenth months shall become occasions of joy and gladness, cheerful festivals for the house of Judah; only love faithfulness and peace." Zechariah 8:19 The fourth and fifth months are Tamuz and Av, respectively.
