1 Peter 1:6-7

“In this [heavenly hope] you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while... you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love."

First time I have ever been first that I can remember. I don't feel any different either.

My friend June, that I mentioned earlier about the mold in their home, has been rushed to the University of MO hospital after suffering a serious heart attack. Would you all please pray for her? We have been friends since 1955 and is a wonderful lady. Her husband, Amos, is quite beside his self and his physicians will not allow him to make the trip to Columbia to be with her. This is what I call the "Pits".

Interview with Josh Reinstein This was a special interview Ray Bentley had Sunday night (I wanted to go.) & today a friend reported back that there was really good info re: Israel & what's going on. Josh is Jewish & involved w/the largest Christian/Jewish Caucus who are trying to work w/the Christians standing w/Israel.

Pastor Ray of course is hoping that Josh will know Yeshua as Messiah @ some point. Reminds me of Jib's comment.

Also Pastor Ray is teaming up w/Joel Rosenburg next year May 2011for a group trip to Israel. They are going to include a Prophecy Conference within the trip. The main guide Ray hires is a "walking encyclopedia" who is also a Jewish man who knows the OT & NT to no end but does not recognize Yeshua as Messiah either.

I was reminding the gals in our A.M. Bible study this morning of the "Blinded in Part" passage in Romans 11.

Frustrating- but it's good to keep Romans 11 in mind. The Lord will take care of all things (Including Jews to faith in Yeshua) & we won't get too stressed out as long as we rest in Him.

We were also discussing how the Jews who like the Christians are probably waiting to prove our "Jesus delusion" when their
long awaited King arrives. They are really reved up & thinking he'll be here soon.

Not to be discouraged for the Jews. The man that came to the fellowship on Sunday night came to the Lord. Then his mother, his father, his brother and his other brother is almost opened the door.

There is a huge movement among the Jews. This is an exciting time.

Subject: Update from Benin!!

Hey Hun. finally, internet after 8 days...

I have arrived at the Ghana airport. A drive that was to be 5 hours turned into 11.5 hours with two flat tires, a 3 hour issue at the border, and traffic jams in the unbelievable heat, smog and dust. In West Africa, you don't drive the roads, you slalom them... around the potholes. Or is that the mogules?..(I have been missing the winter Olympics).

When I think back on the last 8 days, it is all worth it and more. The challenges of Benin pushed my comfort buttons more than any other place to date, but seeing over 100 pastors from 3 different associations come alive and covenant together for the forward movement of the Gospel in the nation, the home of voodoo globally, makes returning here to continue the partnership a no-brainer.

Yesterday we wrapped up our time with a visit to a village built on water and an evening with a precious new church plant of 14 in the heart of the capital. Ganvie, a village of 35,000 with no evangelical church presence, was established in 1717 by people escaping the slave trade (voodoo belief has big issues with fear of water spirits). They call it the "Venice of Benin" because of exclusive water travel. but extreme poverty is everywhere. They have even established an artificial patch of land so they can teach children to walk!

One interesting cultural practice: a groom gives his bride a new boat on their wedding day, and then the rest of their lives, he fishes early in the morning, comes home and SELLS his fish to his wife, and then she paddles to the mainland to sell them. He uses his $ to provide for the kids, and she keeps her profit as spending money. They had no comment when we asked what happens if she refuses to buy or he sells to someone else... maybe a lot of nights sleeping on the couch? Or in your own boat?

Seriously, the cults are already here. Islam is already here.... but no life-giving church of Jesus. I am totally commtted to seeing that change, and soon.

The day before, I taught a dozen precious church planters by day, and spoke at a remote Fon village church that night. Over 50 gathered in a village where no church even existed last fall. My missionary friend Tony had gone to the area to inquire about land for a vocational institute, and this man steeped in voodoo requested prayer for his daughter. Edith, 16, had a two pound tumor growing out of her face. Tony arranged surgery on a docked Mercy Ship, and after 8 hours including new nasal passages, ear work, and "realignment" of her eyes, God opened the hearts of the whole village. The village elders said, "If you are trying to show us Jesus, We have already seen him...in your caring service to us." Basically, the whole villlage has now converted, renouncing their voodoo village god and their individual house gods, too. Edith's dad is the pastor-in-training (a 3 year training with our Glean ministries partners). And what about Edith? The one who avoided public embarassment is now receiving top marks in school and dreaming of college...

That night we worshipped open air to African drums, and then a sudden storm chased us indoors where I got to minister, soaked to the bone, to this precious new flock. Together we prayed passionately for their call to reach the surrounding villages for God's glory. It was, all-in-all, a ministry privilege that we dream of.

So much to share, but this is getting long. I will report more next week. On one hand, I hate experiencing all of this without you. On the other hand, I do not get excited about involving you in the challenges of oppressive cultures (although you can surely handle them better than I, I really struggle with the thought of leading you into the rough places where God is calling us). But I really miss you, and look forward to facing challenges and joys side-by-side very soon...

All my love,
Randy

Hey all,

Some may remember I decided to make a job change a few months ago. I seemed to easily get a great job in Colorado Springs, but now one of my old employers from 5 yrs ago is holding up the whole deal with some paperwork that is required for the CO state board. I have just about done all I can on my end, but I know if God wants me and my family up there He can get it done. So, I guess I'm asking for prayer for this roadblock to be removed. I'm still not sure if it's a spiritual trial I'm supposed to get through or resistance from the bad guys, so please pray for my discernment as well.
On another note, I was reading a Jewish website about Purim that starts this weekend, and an interesting parallel arose. What if Haman were substituted for Iran, similar in their irrational hatred of Israel, and the date has been set for Israel's destruction, Purim, but then, through divine intervention Israel is allowed to fight back on the same date and destroys her enemies, i.e. Psalm 83 war. Thnings that make you go Hmmmm....

IMF wants new power to supervise global financial system
(AFP) – 10 hours ago
WASHINGTON — The International Monetary Fund wants new authority to supervise the global financial system, IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn said Friday.
Strauss-Kahn, in a speech in Washington, said the IMF needed to update its mandate as the global economy emerges from the worst recession in decades.
"We must build on this positive momentum: to transform the Fund into an institution even better equipped to meet the challenges of the post-crisis era," the IMF managing director told a meeting of the Bretton Woods Committee.
"There may be a need for a clearer mandate to pursue risks to global economic and -- I stress -- financial stability," he said, according to the prepared text.
"In particular, we are floating the idea of a new multilateral surveillance procedure. This would allow -- indeed require -- the Fund to assess the broader and systemic effects of country-level policies, and the associated risks, in a fundamentally different way."
The 186-nation IMF currently is responsible for economic surveillance country by country, as well as developments for developments relating to the global economy as a whole, he said, "but in practice, the bulk of our efforts have been at the country level."
"One result of this has been that we have not paid enough attention to the linkages and spillovers between economies -- including those that transmit through the arteries of the global financial system."
The IMF chief also called for improved emergency response authority to financial crises.
He recalled that in the global economic crisis, key emerging market economies seeking financial lifelines had not turned to the Fund as the "first responder," but instead approached the US Federal Reserve and other central banks.
"But what assurances do we have that they would be willing and able to provide such liquidity support in the future? We should not take this support for granted," he said.
"For this reason, it is critical that a multilateral institution be ready to answer the call. In this context, we are currently exploring various options -- including for short-term, multi-country credit lines that the Fund might extend in a systemic crisis."
He said an increase of more than 850 billion dollars to the Fund's resources over the past year "should be sufficient to meet demand in the coming period."

Give Your Worries To God And Flow With Him To Encounter The Miracles Of His Surprise

Quote: Give everything to God and don’t worry. Jesus said that the "anxiety of the world" makes us "unfruitful." When we worry, it's a little stone that collects on top of other "worry stones." Eventually, there will be a block; fear is like a boulder.

To attract the stream of life, we must shake off fear and become pure as the heavenly flow. The worst enemy you have may be on your wrist: when we are slaves to time, to the wristwatch (or the computer clock), we are slaves to the flow of what man has created, instead of the flow of God, Who is timeless.

"All for God and all for others" is the slogan of the wonderworker.

If you seek God and work for Him in everything, without pause, the result will be miraculous.

ARTICLE and YOUTUBE VIDEO BELOW- from Andrew Strom

AMAZING MIRACLE in HAITI

Jerry Miel is a good friend and radio engineer who served as a missionary in Haiti with World Team mission when we lived there.

He worked with the Christian station, Radio Lumiere (Radio Light). He has gone back to Haiti
to help in the aftermath of the earthquake and makes these important observations. -- Boxley

AN INCREDIBLE DAY in the HISTORY OF HAITI
-by Jerry Miel (Feb 17).

I think that I will remember this day as one of the most significant in my life, not because of what I did,but for it's meaning... Today was the one month anniversary of the great Haitian earthquake.
About 3 days ago the Haitian President announced that there would be 3 days of holiday from work for the purpose of fasting and prayer.

This is absolutely historic. If you have ever been in Haiti as a visitor or missionary, could you ever have imagined such a pronouncement? Could you image such an announcement from the U.S. President?

This morning I saw a young Haitian-American woman, the leader of a work team, crying because the Americans could not understand the incredible importance of this day and wanted to go about business as usual. Remember, it was only about
6 years ago that a former Haitian president called the nation to come together to rededicate the nation to Satan.

This was not "a minute of silence for the deceased" or something as equally insignificant. Whatever the President might have originally intended, this became a real commitment for the Haitian people. As I sit here this evening, I can hear the preaching coming from a nearby church. Services have been going on all day...

Let me tell you what I saw and felt today.Peniel and I had planned an inspection trip up to the Artibonite Valley today.
Right or wrong, I don't really know, but since it was the only opportunity, we went ahead with the trip.

As we left the guest house about 7:30 am, we were met by throngs of well dressed people headed to various churches.

The sounds of Christian music and worship filled the air everywhere. The next observation was that there was NO traffic.
Port-au-Prince streets are always clogged and overflowing with bumper to bumper traffic.
This morning there were only a few vehicles on the roads, a few small buses (tap taps), some UN and military vehicles, and a few private cars. We had clear sailing through town. The same was true of foot traffic.

Usually the streets are clogged also with people walking. Today there were only a few and many of them dressed for church.
The only place that there were traffic blocks was in front of several churches where the congregations had overflowed
the buildings and the yards and had moved out into the streets as well.

Late Night Lisa said...

cont...

The next observation was that EVERYTHING was closed! We could not find even one business or gas station open. There were no intercity buses running. Whereas the sidewalks are usually overflowing with millions of street vendors,we only saw a few here and there. The huge outdoor market near the wharf where thousands work each day and is spread out to cover most of the street, was EMPTY.

There were all the people? They were in churches and makeshift meeting sites. Every church(except a JW church)had services going on, almost always overflowing into the streets. Beside broken down churches, services were taking place outside. In homeless camps, there were services. Everywhere the nation was gathered
to worship and pray. No, I did not see any voodoo, Islamic, or Buddhist services. This scene was repeated in every town and hamlet that we passed during the day.

Tonight, Pastor Ignace, who is sharing the room with me, asked this question: "Can people still say that Haiti is a voodoo country?" What has been happening and is continuing to happen in Haiti did not happen because of
the earthquake. It has been happening because the Haitian people know how to pray. This is a tremendous outpouring of God's power as the result of prayer. Twenty years ago I started praying for the Gospel to change the Haitian culture.

I think that I am seeing God do that work.

The only sadness that I feel today is for our nation. While a nation that has long been under Satan's domination is turning to God with total commitment, our nation,

founded on Godly values has rejected God and is rapidly trying
to forget that his name even exists. Let us pray for revival.

4-MIN VIDEO of HAITI DAYS of PRAYER

God bless you all!

Great Grany 5 said...

WOW Lisa, is all I can say. Thank you for sharing that and yes, it is answer to many years of praying.

On Saturday, Feb. 27th, my DJH was working in his office when he became aware of the windows trembling. Because there are two major railroads traversing our community, he thought it was caused by one of them. But then he noticed very quickly that the tremble turned into rattling and he marked the time on his desk calendar with the time of 4:22 p.m. In Sunday's newspaper out of Tulsa, OK., one of the news items on the 6th page of the first section headlined "QUAKE HITS OKLAHOMA COUNTY" and proceeded to report that a 4.4 magnitude earthquake hit Lincoln County on Saturday, according to the USGS.

The earthquake hit at 4:22 p.m, about 3 miles east of Sparks, the survey said. Sparks is between Chandler and Meeker, about 60 miles southwest of Tulsa. I looked it up on Mapquest and this is what I discovered:
Starting Location
Sparks, OK
Ending Location
Sallisaw, OK

Total Travel Estimate: 2 hours 24 minutes/ 144.98 miles
The terrain involved is quite hilly and that span of land mass/quake would also travel across 2 rather large Corp of Engineering flood control lakes.

Hmmmm!

Here was a passing thought- "What if" scenario.

"What if"- The Lord's plan is to soften hearts though these natural disasters in order to call His sheep out before Jesus comes to "catch up" His own?

"What if"- This is part of the plan of the "Birth pang" process for the Church?

I guess- "What if doesn't matter" like the song says but the thought occurred to me after reading about the Revival in Haiti.

It was interesting to find out that Carter Colon's specialty used to be revivals.

It's apparent to me that some men are still being called into this ministry. The Bible says Apostasy will be the overwhelming theme of our age as we are witness to. But-that doesn't mean that God will not pour His Spirit out along the way in order to draw more into God's kingdom before Christ's return.

After sharing with my pastor/shepherd and remarking about the pictures taken in Haiti of the residents there worshiping God, he made the following statement "An Ezra Kind of Revival".

Normally, I would not have been so impacted but I have been studying Ezra now for about 3 months, off and on. Ezra is a book that requires a little reading and a whole lot of meditating on plus an even greater need of studying "WHAT?". So, having just arrived at chapter 7, his remarks were light a thunderbolt right though my heart.

I believe that the world will be in total "self immersion" and wanting or desiring no form of God. However, I also believe that the true believers will have their hearts pierced through and through with and by the Holy Spirit as to what they have acquired unrelated to God's Holiness. As I am typing this, I am getting the strangest prompting ever.

I think I will quit for the time being and just let my whole being seek out the trueness of what I am experiencing.

Campaign Gives Christians Megaphone to Support Gays

The "Believe Out Loud" campaign was launched on Valentine's Day and seeks to increase acceptance of LGBT persons in religious communities – mainly the collective body of some 40 million Americans who attend Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopal and other mainline churches. Specifically, the initiative is aiming to move believers from privately believing in the full inclusion of homosexuals to speaking out publicly.

A 2008 survey of clergy from mainline Protestant denominations revealed that a majority of ministers (79 percent) agree that "homosexuals should have all the same rights and privileges as other American citizens." Most (65 percent) also support either same-sex marriage (33 percent) or civil unions, according to Public Religion Research's Mainline Protestant Clergy Voices Survey.

At Ivor church, clothing is optional Churchgoers like Foley have no problem getting the word of God from a pastor in his birthday suit.

"Some of the biggest moments in Jesus' life he was naked," Pastor Allen Parker said. "When he was born he was naked, when he was crucified he was naked and when he arose he left his clothes in the tomb and he was naked. If God made us that way, how can that be wrong?"

The earthquake in Chile and the watching for the tsunami to travel around the world felt like a dress rehearsal for what is yet to come....to me.

On the earthquake subject...the revival going on in Haiti is phenomenal. There was a huge story on the local missionary groups and medical missionaries on our local news. They all reported how the voodoo drums are silent and people have been praying to God and the churches are busting at the seems. Others point out it is not just the earthquake that brought this about but the continued prayer for years for Haiti. The earthquake was the catalyst that helped get the ball rolling. Makes me think we should continue to pray for our country as well as Russia and the Middle Eastern countries, China, etc. More catalysts and natural disasters are no doubt coming...lets pray up these people to receive the Lord when it does.(or for right now).

Maybe this is a taste of the revival that is coming....just like Lisa's friend the other day(internet guy).

On a curious note I have just started to see the "coexist" bumper sticker (like Michael Jackson's logo on his last tour/after death) and one that says "Where there is a Witch there is a way". Now granted I have only seen one of each...but that is a ton in East Texas. Anyone else??

Praying for more revivals,

Mar 2nd 2010 - ARE PEOPLE ANNOYING?

1 Thessalonians 2:17-20
"But we, brethren...endeavored more eagerly to see your face ....For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming? For you are our glory and joy."

One of the greatest values and blessings of being part of a church body is when we stand together in times of difficulty and encourage one another through trials and tribulations. Look at the prophet Elijah. He accomplished great feats of prophecy and leadership in the name of the Lord--and yet, when he isolated himself from other believers, he grew discouraged, depressed, and just wanted to quit the whole thing--even his life.

Can other members of the body of Christ be annoying, discouraging, and even hard to get along with? Do people sometimes do things that completely baffle you and make you question their faith and salvation? Do you find yourself saying, can just anyone be a Christian? (Of course the answer to that is yes, anyone, no matter who they are or what they've done, can accept Jesus and become part of the His family...no matter how annoying you might they think they are.)

I have known people who are difficult, overly sensitive, overly needy--you name it--who came through in times of need for others in ways that put me to shame. Just when I think I have a right judge someone, I am humbled by the way God works through that person's life.

Sometimes, like Elijah, we get so fed up with everything, that we just want to avoid people. They just require too much of us, so we avoid being close to others or push them away.

Mike Mason describes the dilemma like this: "[Jesus] let us crucify Him to show us how much we push everyone away, even the Son of God. As the dust settled on Calvary, some of us realized ... how much we wanted love and how much He wanted us. And so we invited Him to come back and live in our hearts...and something wonderful happened. We began to wake up to how badly we'd been treating people and how much we missed each other. We began to want one another with a deep, pure love. And so the church was born."1

The apostle Paul was never ashamed of his love for his fellow Christians--even though he spent many years writing to correct their misguided ideas, exhorting them to higher standards, or even expressing his frustration when they wouldn't listen. But still he loved them, and he urges us to do likewise: "Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart" (1 Peter 1:22, NIV).

Paul did not just tolerate others and their quirks. He had learned to genuinely love. What did he call his brothers and sisters in the verse above? "Our hope...crown of rejoicing...our glory and joy."

I have to ask myself. Is that how I look at the people around me?

Jim, I also have problems with TBN, John MacArthur, and even you (never Grany, tho). If one doesn't believe exactly as I do, then they are teaching heresy. The sad part is I sometimes argue with myself, and then must also condemn myself as a heretic. I just can't quite figure out which part is the heretical one.

You wouldn't believe how difficult it is when one is limited to the straight and narrow, with no room for any distracting side issues like charismatic giftings, church tradition or having evangelistic crusades with those who have strayed from the narrow path of holiness. Billy Graham is considered one of those.

*****

When we were overseas, we watched a fair bit of the TBN family (TBN, Smile of a Child, JCTV, and one other). Yes, there were pentecostal crazies, and feel good Joels, but there were many other wonderful preachers and ministries as well. For the most part, they are bringing the way of salvation and strength to millions of people throughout the world via satellite. Their English broadcasting is unscrambled and available in a significant portion of the world, including in Arabic and Spanish. I personally would never feel at liberty to criticize God's servants in the way that MacArthur does. It get's too close to blasphemy of the Holy Spirit (saying the work of the Holy Spirit is the work of the devil).

One thing I have found about MacArthur is that he views all other ministries as black or white, without realizing that there is both in his own ministry.

There's my short answer.

Great Grany 5 said...

I just received this article from Jimmy De Young and wanted to keep you all in the loop. I know that there are several other ministries who are teaching the same thing about the end times but there is a very strong part of my character that believes repentance can and will turn back judgment. But my big question is very simple. Will repentance hold back God's Timing and purposes?

Remember a couple of days ago I felt a strong word rising inside of me? I said I was going to quit for the time and just let the Holy Spirit reveal what he would. Well, that question I just asked is what was perking at that time.

So, in all seriousness, will repentance put on hold God's Timing of events? Will we actually try to stop this Church Age from ending because of the circumstances that are and will affect our daily lives? Will we seek comfort and plenty instead of God's Perfect Will for the whole world?

Yes, I have my own opinion; you know I would. But I don't my opinion to be out of line with Abba. I only want and can desire the Appearing of my Savior, whether that be just for me at this time or for all of the true believers in Jesus Christ.

As I type these thoughts out I know that there are many who will tell us that they are not ready for God's final word to be done right now. My friend Linda is one of them. She has so many things she still wants to do and to do them without fear of the Great Tribulation haunting her every step.

I know that I am old but I still have a young Holy Spirit that still sees things a lot differently than my younger counterparts. There is so much precious value in living this life to glorify God but so far, most of us have had a pretty easy life when you compare it to the quality of life in other countries. I think of Russia, China, India, Iran, Iraq, and the list goes on.

Could we all survive a horrible country wide disaster such as Haiti and Chili have just experienced and come out worshiping and praise God? Would we?

Things to think about but not to fear!

I really don't put much value in John MacArthur's tirade about TBN. He is only speaking out of his own knowledge as far as he has experienced the trinity. I keep saying and saying, etc. that we can judge the fruit that is produced but the main thing is very simple. Doctrine/traditions of men mean more to some people than God's word.

I watch TBN when ministers are sharing the Word RIGHTLY DIVIDED but when my Spirit man is not in tune with what is being preached, I switch channels. Gotta love the remote control.

Do I watch or listen to John MacArthur? No! Have I ever? Yes!
Enough said.

But Jim, there are many things about the Pope that I don't agree with either and no, I don't listen to him or watch him. Did I watch Pope John Paul? Yes I did and I also prayed for him in great love.

Where did I get saved~~ Southern Baptist Church. Why did I leave? I knew in my heart there was a lot more to my being a Christian and having the Holy Spirit in the fullness of God's word and purpose.

We will all know very soon what we put our faith in. The wood, stubble and hay will all be burned in the Holy Fires and only the real faith will survive. We will be tried as gold and the refiners fires will get rid of the crap.

Wayne said...

Grany, I am being confronted by some of those issues as we will be looking at Ez. 14, 15.

Do I have idols in my heart? Comforts that make we want to say "not yet" to the Lord's return? Things that keep me from hearing the HS, and things that keep him from using me in my community?

On the other hand, is our world at such a stage that even if I were a Noah, Daniel, or Job, I would be unable to turn a neighbour back to the Lord? Has their value been reduced to only a grapevine?

Is the problem within me, or them, or both. The time is coming where no prayers of the saints will turn back the judgment of God.

Big questions without clear answers yet, apart from digging deeper into trust.

Great Grany 5 said...

WAYNE,
Once again, you have answered the questions that are in my heart, mind and soul. So, now my question is an echo of what you have just said. Are we now in that Time Period where God's Hand cannot be stayed? There are so many unsaved right here in my own neighborhood who have no desire to know anything about God. They are living life to the fullest of their ability and do not want anyone to upset their routine or peace of mind.

As far as the things (idols) we all have in our lives, I truly believe the Holy Spirit will shine His light on them in a manner that we cannot ignore. This past year I found out just how many of the little rascals I had acquired in my life. The process of getting separated from them was very, very painful but in the end, it has given me such a huge degree of freedom and peace that I have to see things in a different manner.

I have prayed for many years about the Prosperity message that some of the charismatics preach and my heart just won't come into alignment with it. I have no doubt that God is able to lavish great wealth on those who will use it to enlarge His kingdom but what I see is a lavish life style that they become accustomed to and pursue.

It is a matter of choice and I chose to believe that God will provide everything that I need when I need it without me getting my focus on accumulating great wealth. I am not saying that those ministries don't use the monies they receive to further God's kingdom but it seems an awful lot of it is lavished upon their own selves.

But again, that is just me. I have always been more interested in seeing people saved and leading Godly blessed lives than anything else. We have all we can do to keep on the straight and narrow and as Wayne said, it can get a little restrictive but hey, think of the fun we can have in just praising God for his word taking root in us. It is that root that makes us Want to stay on the narrow path.

When the milk money runs out I know that I can drink water and be just as happy as I want to be, if I have kept my first station alive in Christ. Not always easy and sometimes it is just downright scary but hey, that is when God shows up.

OK, that is enough out of me for the day. But we can't just let all that is coming at us over take us.

Interesting that all of us seem to be struggling or thinking on the same issus. Part of me has been that I don't want Christ to come now-there are things that I haven't done that I want to do, I want my child to know the joy of being a spouse and a parent and honestly I haven't always lived the way I should and I want time to balance the sheet so to speak I want a crown to lay down at Christ's feet and I don't want to be one of those people mentioned at the Bema seat whose works all burn up but at least they are saved. I have friends that I consider family that aren't saved. I have family that aren't saved. But at the same time-how long is God supposed to wait for us to get our acts together? I'm listenting to a teaching right now by Frucht on the resurrection of Christ. Get this, the apostles were told before Christ's death by Christ to go to Galilee and they didn't. The angels who spoke to the women told the women to tell the men to go to Galilee. Mary relayed the same message. They persisted in NOT going to Galilee as they were told to do. Even after Christ appeared to all of them but Thomas they STILL did not go to Galilee even a week later! I think I have counted that they were told either by Christ Himself or by deisgnated messenger to go to Galilee about a half a dozen times before they actually did so. I was sitting there listening going-guys, seriously come one what's it going to take to get you to do what you've been commanded to do? Then I thought about myself-ouch.

I sense that God's hand is stayed but just barely. There will eventually come a time that His hand can not be stayed and won't be stayed. God did tell Jeremiah after a time not to bother to pray for Israel that it would do no good to do so.

Once again you hit the nail when you said; "It is a matter of choice and I chose to believe that God will provide everything that I need when I need it without me getting my focus on accumulating great wealth."

This is one of the things I have struggled with, worrying about my needs and finances. I keep getting the same message from the Lord that He would provide all my needs "at the time I need them" if I would not worry and let Him do it!! Its the "let Him do it" part that I learn over and over... You would think I would get it by now!!

Jim C;
I too have a problem with the prosperity message. I am maybe more vunerable then most because of what I wrote above. I was a long time TBN partner (not for some years now as I am involved in other causes). I strongly supported the idea of spreading the Gospel, as they were doing. I since have had "issues" with much of the teaching but as others have said, there are still good teachers in with the questionable ones.

After reading them both, I was interested in what day the mention in the Vision is on the Hebrew Calendar. It is Adar 4. I turned in my calendar and on the day before, Adar 3, I have written: "Flood Waters 150 days" from our Noah study.
Then I wondered what day that would have been in Israel in the time zones????
It is 1:11 in the Philippines on Adar 4 and 7:11 pm on Adar 3 in Israel.

The Lord woke her up at exactly 1:11 am and said, "this is the last Olympics." She is not given to fancy feelings or gets caught up in gimmicks.

Then after I finished I surprised myself about the tone/subject of the prayer. Even today I still
mulling it over. Did I just pray for God's chastening upon our nation & my little cushy life to be turned upside down?

I wonder what the other ladies thought about that prayer.

I did enjoy those closing ceremonies but they were different. You are right about the death of the young Georgian. Maybe that is why the me manship wasn't the big deal. Oh, not saying that there wasn't a lot of it but just that it was more about the sport and less about the persons. Of course, celebrating their individual victories was exhilarating but it was totally different. Of course, the news casters were still doing their thing almost oblivious of the deeper meaning but it seemed to me like we were seeing the end of something very real and it was sad.

I wish I could really put my words in proper order so you would know what I meant. But then, I can't even figure it all out. The little grey cells are asleep and don't want to be disturbed.

I started reading Ez. 14 and 15 again and there were so many rabbit trails involved that I quit only to be awakened this morning with a big prompt Read it again.

Wayne, do you believe it is only for the Jews or would it be fair to say it applies to everyone? I just know that it was very sobering to me and something that I will probably wear out thinking over. To say I will be meditating on it is an understatement.

Thanks for tasering my brain; needed it for a long time.

This same principle applies to our life. We may not have wild animals tearing apart our children, but we look at the results of war on a nation that has rejected him, and they have the same end. Look at God's judgement against Nineveh and the condemnation of the nations around Israel. They also were destroyed because they refused to live in justice and mercy. Scary thots, but true.

But just the fact of our economy sinking and the division of our governing bodies should start to ring a few bells. But I can't say that wild animals will not tear our children apart. Here's why.

On my roof over my bedroom, we found definite evidences of a large cat being there. I heard the noises and couldn't figure it out but our neighbor turned on his security system, aimed it at our house and walla, there was a Mountain Lion big as you please. Beautiful but I wouldn't want to be sleeping out in a tent with that fella around. I would make a pretty good size meal for several cats.

Now, with the expansion of our population due to immigration, homes are being built in areas where these animals thrived. They are being misplaced and roaming around trying to find another home. Since my episode with the big cat the wildlife officer that lives up the street from us has told me that there are also black bears, bobcats and one other cat family but I don't remember the species. They have been seen roaming around and even have attacked more than one hunter during deer season. They are all off limits on kill but if one gets too close and real personal with me or my grand kids, out he goes.

Where my son and great grandchildren live in northern Missouri those same animals are making it very dangerous for everyone to be in the woods. The deer have been coming up to my son's house every evening instead of staying in the woods. That is all a new habit. So, it could be if space becomes an issue.

But the fact that God declared it so clearly should cause us all to really search our hearts. Or maybe we should listen to others when they try to warn us off of dangerous directions we are taking.

This brings to my mind the passage in Jeremiah that talks about the Rotten Figs too rotten to be eaten. Oh yikes, as Marge would say.

Now I have the rest of the day to do some more digging.

a summer-type question.

We plan on being in the Siloam Springs AR area in end of June for just over a week, and are looking for a free parking spot for a motor home (church lot, or something like that). Any suggestions?

I'm working to better understand the younger generation (young to me, 20-30). I was sent this link by someone in that age group who hopes I can understand some of their frustration and also their new way of thinking about the world. Here's a quote:

This is our decisive moment. Either we wallow in debt as passive observers of history and pray that technology will eventually solve all our problems or we actively seize power and deal with the consequences. While Gen Y outnumbers the boomers, we won’t hold the balance of power for another ten years, at which point the climate may be all but lost. So democracy is not an option.

We should take our cue from the likes of the Brazilian Pixadores, a disenfranchised group of graffiti artists from the favelas of Rio who storm and vandalize art galleries and universities to proclaim their existence against the society that excludes them. But rather than storm art galleries we should pursue a policy of strife: storm and occupy whatever political and economic space we can.

In the next ten years Gen Y will inherit the ownership of something commonly referred to as “the West,” but what will that even be worth? The West has become its own worst enemy, creating global conflict in order to promote a failed socioeconomic doctrine – a corrupt corporatism that bails out its banks and then gives its thieving rich million-dollar bonuses for bankrupting the working class. How could such a dysfunctional system possibly compete with China’s monolithic authoritarian model?

The only hope for the West is if we tear our current system apart piece by piece from the inside out, replacing what we destroy with viable alternatives. Starting with the renunciation of the label “Gen Y” – a hollow marketing term thought up by a balding boomer advertising executive. Instead we should refer to ourselves as the “Barbarian Generation,” because that’s what we are: the greatest threat yet to capitalist civilization.

The Coming Barbarism
Gen Y is the greatest threat to consumer capitalism yet.

Any thoughts?

re: the TBN article:

[shrug] I really don't have a feeling one way or another. For some reason, I prefer watching EWTN. I usually think of the Evangelical movement as being so monolithic (aside from minor tiffs involving pre-and-post-trib, etc.) I find articles like this one eye-opening.

And Lori? I did post the one vision about the star falling over Persia (Iran), but I don't know which other vision you're talking about re: the Olympics.

Hi Anne,
Wow....hope that person never buys a house next to me! LOL! All kidding aside, 2 things stuck out to me in his/her response. First, the comment that "The only hope for the West is if we tear our current system apart piece by piece from the inside out, replacing what we destroy with viable alternatives."

Viable alternatives....hmmmm...isn't that what the generation before wanted to do and every generation before that as well? Isn't that what every coup is about? In alot of ways, the founding fathers were also looking for viable alternatives. It's really a matter of the grass being greener elsewhere and we all know how that ends up. So that's not a new idea and not really one that has a history of actually making a difference. I remember when I was in college and the buzz word for teachers was to start thinking about educating the "whole child". As an English teacher, I was supposed to find ways to incorporate math, science, music, etc. into my grammar and Shakespeare lesson plans. I was telling my Grandfather (who had also been a teacher) about this wonderful new approach to tapping into the natural gifts and learning styles of all my students. He listened politely and then said, "Yeah, we tried that back in the 40s. Kids were failing their benchmark exams so we went back to a reading, writing and math focus. You will, too."

Second thing is the angst about the labels. I guess I'm a GenY member (maybe at the upper end. I just turned 36.) But I seem to remember being labeled other names, too, and I really can't tell you what GenY is supposed to say about me anyway. I really don't care for labels, personally. I switched to the Independant party years ago because I really hate the thought that either political party might claim me as a member and get to use me to boost their poll numbers. (I don't even know what being an Independant is supposed to mean, but I had to list something to be registered.)
It's interesting that s/he is so vehement about shedding the GenY label, but so totally onboard about adopting a new label. If the old label was used to market him/her, why wouldn't the new label as well? Is being a barbarian really going to change the machine? Even if this capitalism machine breaks down, a new machine will rise up and will set up the same hierarchy of authority and abuse. No order is going to be created that will fix the ills of society. It's simply not in our power to do, but people in all ages have died trying.

So I sense alot of missing the forest for the trees going on amidst his/her passion. I'm also wondering if you googled some of the text of the email, if you wouldn't find that some comes from other sources. It seems kinda like a talking points list that this person has fed on.

I'm assuming this person isn't in a personal relationship with Christ, from the way s/he talks about using destruction as a means to change (and because s/he simply never mentions a faith background of any kind.) That alone is the key factor - and one of the hardest in my dealings with others who have radical views. If there's no recognition of at least a higher power, none of the other peripheral discussions make much headway. (I'm thinking of a cousin-in-law who is an ardent Darwinist. He's been impossible thus far to engage because of his absolute beliefs about the inexistence of a Creator.) I've gone from despair over these issues raging around us to a place of peace and security, though. Ps. 91 applies perfectly for us here.

vs. 7 "A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
8You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked." I really don't relish watching any of that, but if it's going to take place around us, we are going to be safe in our Father's shelter and shadow (vs 1). We are in this world, but of Christ. The person writing to you is trying to find a way to make being IN this world the desirable place to be.

Will be praying for any further discussions you might have and that God will send that revelation about Him that is missing right now for him/her.

A pocketful of my cents!
Blessings,
Jen

Jen, interesting input. What came to mind as I read the post was how each generation has harsh criticism for the previous one. And just wait till their kids come of age! What your grandfather said.

BTW, just to clarify, this was a link to an article written by a 28 year old Canadian man, sent to me by a young woman, 29 years old, who tries to help me relate to this younger generation.

Wayne,
We live about 90 miles from Siloam Springs and the people there are very friendly. I will see what I can find but are you going to be preaching also? Hopefully so!

Most of our friends that did live there have all passed on to their new eternity but I know that there are churches galore. There is also a huge Walmart Superstore there and everytime they build one of these, other businesses pop up like mushrooms. There is also a DaySpring factory there where they make Christian articles such as books, cards, pictures with accompanying sculptures, etc. A lot will depend on the needs you will have. There is a park in the old part of the town but I don't know about available parking for RV's.

I will check and see what I can find though. Great news that you are coming to our part of the country.

Grany, it is for our daughter's wedding, so we have no real connections there. His grandparents are from Farmington, but his parents are missionaries in residence at JBU, and he is graduating from there this spring. You can send the info to definitelynotdad@yahoo.ca which is my public email.

Thanks, Wayne

I am curious as to what you mean by "monolithic"? This is not in any way a criticism, I am trying to understand your view point on the article you posted. In my view there is no real "Evangelical movement". There are so many differing views on what the Bible says regarding many of the subjects we have addressed on this blog that I don't think one can label it all "Evangelical". Of course, I may be totally out in left field on that though.

I for one most definitely disagree with the "prosperity gospel" as it is presented by most of the TV teachers (seems more of a gospel of greed to me). I can find no evidence of it presented this way in the Bible.

Here is the Webster's Defination Evengelical

1 : of, relating to, or being in agreement with the Christian gospel especially as it is presented in the four Gospels.

3.: emphasizing salvation by faith in the atoning death of Jesus Christ through personal conversion, the authority of Scripture, and the importance of preaching as contrasted with ritual.

Those two points sums it up from my perspective. The problem is that we are living in an era of apostasy & Christians who are being led by the flesh are creating their own personal style of what "Evangelical" should be.

If things continue on "as is" it will become all the more apparent who the wheat & who the tares are.

Of course to the worldly view- the wheat and tares will look opposite of the truth.

Can anyone recommend good sites to use when talking about the dinosaur quetion to young children (5 years old)? I have a dino enthusiast and some of the books we're reading are talking about the dinos dying out and humans coming on the scene later. He's beginning to understand that something caused them to die and it won't be long til he wants to know more about the sequence. I don't what the books we're reading to be his main source of understanding, though.
Along those lines, there's an article today at Foxnews about scientists coming to agreement that a huge meteor was the cause of the extinction. I couldn't help but think of another falling star that has caused a lot of damage, too.

Thanks!

Lisa;
Thanks for the definition. I guess my point is that the word evangelical is used as a blanket term so much that I think it has lost meaning.
I would accept Webster's definition as being accurate in a general sense. The term may have replaced the old term "protestant" as a way of distinguishing from other "Christian" beliefs.

Jen

but I also highly recommend the answersingenesis site. they have a number of books geared toward children as well as adults.
We will be going to the Creation Museum this summer and can't wait.

specific books
Dinosaurs for kids

and The complete answers books for children

the also have a book more geared to adults called "The Great Dinosaur mystery solved"

They also have some dvd's for 5-7 year old called the Creation Adventure team. We bought a couple and they weren't bad.

I like their Answers in Genesis Magazine and they always include a kid's section which generally has something to do with dinosaurs.

If AR is out there I'm sure she would have some suggestions as well
