I get what you mean with the Happy New Year
Well, it took several hours and some mild coercion by the tech support, but it seems that our publisher is up and running again. We're caught up on the news links.
(link #15) Putin calls for more weapons to stop America from doing anything it wants.
(link #6) The correct link to: Why we must support Israel... can you believe yesterday I had it linked to Ray Stevens on youtube singing, "Guitarzane?!" That's just about the weirdest thing ever!
As much as I try not to use WND news, they do have an interesting story (link #22) about the Christmas day underwear bomber, or should we say.... bombers?
Alesia has arrived and mac is a happy man.

Wow. I just broke down and signed up for a Facebook account. I've resisted doing it because I've seen how much time a person can spend on it. A friend calls it "crackbook."
Anyway, I was blown away by how many people it "suggested" as friends who are people I know. I think it suggested Grany. Her name is Wilma and I'm almost certain it's the Grany we all know and love here.
I've never communicated with Grany via e-mail. How in the world would Facebook be able to make a connection. Maybe all the comments I post here and all the comments she has posted here in the past. Anyway, there are even stranger suggestions. One long lost friend from over 10 years ago in another city we lived in. We never e-mailed one another. Simply went to church together. Strange.
Yep. It's Grany. Another person at the cave here confirmed me on Facebook. Grany is one of that person's Facebook friends;-)
Interesting for what it's worth:
2010/2011 is the YEAR
A little known Rabbinic prophesy according to Israel Today: According to this article, Rabbi Judah Ben Samuel was a top Talmudic scholar in Germany. Just before he died in the year 1217 he prophesied that the Ottoman Turks would rule over the holy city of Jerusalem for eight jubilees. That is 400 years (8 x 50). The Ottoman Turks did take control of Jerusalem 300 years after the Rabbi’s death in 1517 and as according to the prophecy, the Ottoman Turks then lost Jerusalem 400 years later in 1917. It was during WWI that British General Edmund Allenby walked into Jerusalem on Hanukkah without firing a shot in 1917. The timing of this with the holiday and the ease at which it occurred indeed make this moment of history extremely significant.
Hanukkah 1917 ended the 400 year reign of the Ottoman Turks over the land of the Jewish people. In the year of Jubilee.
June 5-10, 1967 Six Day War! Fifty years later the City of Jerusalem was added to the Nation of Israel. In the year of Jubilee.
2017/2018 is the next Jubilee.
November 29th, 1947 The commandment was given by The United Nation for the creation of the new nation of Israel.
70 years later = November 29th, 2017.
The year 2017/2018 is the next JUBILEE which is 50 years from the six day war and also being 70 years from the commandment for the new nation of Israel to be created.
From 2017/2018 7 years must be subtracted (Tribulation) which gives us 2010/2011.
By the numbers, we are almost home. Just a little time left to finish up our work here on Earth.
This year, we should see some wild things happen to position the World for the antichrist.

If you want to see a slight Eclipse of the moon Dec 31st, 2009
scroll down to the bottom partly eclipsed Moon
Did you know that not only was that a slight eclipse of the full moon but it was also a "Blue Moon"?
I thought there was something different about it- it looked really big too from where we live.
And last night we had the sunset of a lifetime. It was so brilliant it was unreal.
Blue Moon" to Shine on New Year's EveFor the first time in almost 20 years, a bright "blue moon" will grace New Year's Eve celebrations worldwide.
If the skies are clear, revelers looking up at midnight will get an eyeful of the second full moon of the month—commonly called a blue moon. The last time a blue moon appeared on New Year's Eve was in 1990, and it won't happen again until 2028.
Jim G
yes that is a fair assessment of facebook :-) any how I am one of Grany's facebook friends also and you are more than welcome to request to be friends if you wish. we are british car fans. there are several here on facebook and we are friends with each other there too
Depends upon what the definition of a "blue moon" is.
Some say that a blue moon is the second full moon in a calendar month. If that's the case, we just had one on New Year's Eve.
There are others who hold to the following definition:
"Normally, each season has 3 full moons, one per month. There is the "early season" full moon, the "mid season" and "late season". In the event of four full moons in a season, the THIRD full moon is labeled as the "Blue" moon keeping the fourth one as the "Late Season" full moon. So, in actuality, this upcoming full moon is the "Early season" full moon, since winter began Dec 21.
"Blue Moon" debate
I wonder if there is any prophetic significance to "blue moons."
Well, I must say that I am somewhat suprised to see the topic of this Newsletter from "Moriel Ministries". This subject has not been in his usual warning updates. Singularity, or just like the days of Noah? Jan 3, 2010

Are you in need of renewal?
For the Lord has driven out great and powerful nations for you, and no one has yet been able to defeat him. Each one of you will put to flight a thousand of the enemy, for the Lord your God fights for you, just as he promised. So be careful to love the Lord your God.
Joshua 23:9-11 NLT
About this week's promise
When strength fails and we grow weary, we need someone to come alongside us, show understanding, cheer us up, and inspire us to have the strength and commitment to move on. When bills pile up and money runs short, we need an encourager. When we become single parents and the world seems against us, we need an encourager. When friends and family turn against us, we need an encourager. Our strength and resolve weaken. Oh, for someone to come beside us and lift us up and comfort us. Encouragers help us stir renewed commitment, renewed resolve. They inspire us with courage and hope. Encouragers bring a beautiful gift, often a spiritual gift, when they bring renewal through encouragement.

The Prophecy of Jubilees by Rabbi Judah Ben Samuel
Jim G., Thanks for the links! It kinda bugged me that the author in "Signs of the Times" mixed Jewish and Gregorian dates. As a point of reference, here are some of the dates mentioned and implied, in consistent format:
Beginning of WW1
09 Av 5674 -- 01 Aug 1914
09 Av 5677 -- 28 Jul 1917
Gen. Allenby enters Jerusalem
25 Kislev 5678 -- 10 Dec 1917
100 YEARS LATER:
09 Av 5774 -- 05 Aug 2014
09 Av 5777 -- 01 Aug 2017
25 Kislev 5778 -- 13 Dec 2017

39 degrees and loving it!
We're having a heatwave today. It's 9 below right now (that's nine degrees below zero) and we hope to hit 4 above for our high. Those of us who have been here all/most of our lives think nothing of it. The newcomers are grumbling through chattering teeth!
Brit Hume evangelizes Tiger Woods. He tells Tiger that he can find redemption in the Christian faith, not Buddhism.
I came across this via Gene Edward Veith's blog, which is where my link will take you. If you follow the link in the blog entry you will find an article which includes this quote from Hume:
[After retirement]I certainly want to pursue my faith more ardently than I have done. I'm not claiming it's impossible to do when you work in this business. I was kind of a nominal Christian for the longest time. When my son died (by suicide in 1998), I came to Christ in a way that was very meaningful to me. If a person is a Christian and tries to face up to the implications of what you say you believe, it's a pretty big thing. If you do it part time, you're not really living it.
Anne
don't wait until retirement. some one needs you more right now. I don't know who but some one does and you may not even know it.
to All:
I've been reading a lot of books on apologetics lately and it seems Christians not pursuing Christ to the utmost is actually a huge stumbling block. The book Already Gone was very thought provoking along those lines and really made me think about the indirect effects that I have not only on my own child but the kids in our church. this is a must read book for anyone who interacts with kids on any level. you will be shocked I guarantee it. the lack of Praise/contemporary music is not why our kids are leaving our evangelical churches.
Two of the more interesting quotes from the last couple of days. (both from Ravi Zacharias). The first is from "Deliver us from Evil" (which we have been studying in Sunday School and are in the process of finishing up)
"Christ did not die to make bad people good, he died to make dead people live."
the second was a comment made by a Hindu he was talking to and is noted in the current book that I am reading (Beyond Opinion) was something to the effect that if conversion to Christ was so supernatural how come more Christians didn't live like it (ouch).
I highly recommend The Grand Weaver and Jesus among other Gods by Ravi. Deliver us from Evil was also quite good.
Lisa
you might especially like Already Gone since the author noted that men leave or don't attend church for many of the same reasons as the 20 somethings they interviewed
Hi Anne,
I remember watching the broadcast when Brit announced that he was retiring and he did mention that one of his pursuits would be digging deeper into his faith. He now does guest-appearances on the network and more than once I've heard him mention his faith when speaking about a topic. It sticks out for sure because you're not used to hearing reporters mention anything specific about their beliefs and certainly not in contrast to another belief system. I say kuddos to him!
Blessings,
Jen

Jib, thanks for the advice, but that was a quote of Brit Hume, not me. :)
Jib, I completely agree with your comments about Ravi. I find him immensely helpful in speaking with young people who are questioning so much taught by evangelicals, myself included. Biggest concern of mine is the number of young people who do not believe in the resurrection of Jesus. And some of these people have attended well respected seminaries such as Fuller!
Oh boy Jib,

I must be missing something. What is the significance of July 28, 1917 for Jerusalem?
I can't seem to find any record of any particular event of historical significance.
LOL. Helps to go back and read (more carefully) the stuff I posted links too.
The Prophecy of Jubilees by Rabbi Judah Ben Samuel
...But the kickoff day for WWI was the 9th of Av 2014, when Russia and Germany entered the war establishing the plurality of nations involved in the war.
I'm guessing that the writer of the article meant "the 9th of Av 5677."
As you (Jim C.) provided:
09 Av 5677 -- 28 Jul 1917
Is that the significance? It marked the real beginning of WWI?
Jim G., Shalom! The author of that article apparently believes there is some significance to date spacing. WW1 began on Aug. 1, 1914, which was the 9th of Av. General Allenby entered Jerusalem on Dec. 10, 1917, which was 25 Kislev. So (to him) there is some significance in the number of days between 9 Av and 25 Kislev, which is why he also gave the date for the 9th of Av in 1917.

Have you had a "Jericho" experience?
Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Joshua 1:9 NLT
Taking Jericho
Imagine this scene for a minute. You're a captain in Joshua's army camped a few miles outside the city of Jericho. You've seen the thick, double-layered stone walls surrounding the city and armed soldiers guarding every entrance. You've heard tales of the fierce Canaanite army and their ability to hold their ground in battle.
In the midst of all of this, an edict comes down from the upper ranks. Israel is planning to take Jericho. Actually, what the message says is that Israel has already taken Jericho, but Jericho just doesn't know it yet. The battle plan is really no plan at all. You're supposed to get your troops together and conduct a victory march around the city. Just once—for six days in a row. Then on the seventh day you're to march seven times around the city. That's when your soldiers can march in and take possession.
The next day you're marching around the city, and you can't help but hear the taunts coming from inside the walls. You know how silly this all looks, but you keep marching just the same. Because you know that God is on your side, and you've seen what he can do.
This is why God reminded Joshua time and again to "be strong and courageous." God has a way of working that tends to fall outside the norm, and he needs people who trust him enough to go the distance, no matter how bizarre the game plan. Courage is important to God because courage is a natural byproduct of trust. And the greater we trust, the braver we become. As long as God leads the battle, we can march in confidence, knowing that we've already won. God gave Jericho to Israel on the seventh day, just as he said he would. So,…what wall does he have you marching around?
Hey Lisa,

From K-House Newsletter:
EPIPHANY AND THE TWELVE DAYS AFTER CHRISTMAS - (Print)
The beginning of the new year is not the end of the holiday season in Sweden. No, the Swedes also get to take off work on Epiphany – January 6 - just a few short days after the end of the Christmas break. Lucky Scandinavians. Some secular Swedes want to throw off their Christian heritage, though, and are urging the government to do away with this celebration as a paid public holiday. Sweden is one of the very few countries that gives public honor to Epiphany, and many Christians these days don't even know what this holiday - celebrated 12 days after Christmas - is all about.
Almega, a Swedish employer's organization, wants the government to quit forcing employers to pay their employees for taking off work on Epiphany. Almega isn't really picking on Epiphany, though. The group wants to do away with all religiously-based public holidays in Sweden. "That means that employers and their employees can reach an agreement about which days will be considered a paid holiday," Almega negotiator Gunnar Järsjö told the TT news agency.
Not everybody agrees with Almega, and the issue has raised public debate in Sweden. "It's a time to focus on the guiding star and the three men who out of curiosity followed the star to Jesus," Martin Modeús of the Church of Sweden told TT.
While Sweden fusses over the relevance of Epiphany, a dwindling number of Christians know what the day is about. Even Modeús is missing the significance of the holiday. Epiphany celebrates the arrival of the Magi who traveled across the known world to pay homage to the young King of the Jews. They came out of more than mere curiosity. While we don't know the exact date of their arrival, their journey must have begun months, perhaps years before they reached Mary and Joseph's new home in Bethlehem. They also brought with them gifts that bore powerful prophetic significance; gold reflected the kingship of Jesus the Messiah; frankincense was a spice used in the priestly duties; and myrrh was an embalming ointment that signified Jesus' death.
The Magi also hold the honor of being the first gentiles known to have come to worship Jesus. The Messiah was born in Bethlehem to the Jewish people, but He came to be the Savior and Lord of all nations.
The 12 Days of Christmas:
Straight No Chaser, the men's acapella group at Indiana University, does a unique and entertaining version of The 12 Days of Christmas that has been all the rage on Youtube for a couple of years now. We know the song better than we might want to. What many people don't realize is that the 12 Days of Christmas actually begin at Christmas. During centuries past, these were 12 days of celebration that were filled with feasting and gift-giving until the Twelfth Night – the evening of January 5th - the day before Epiphany.
cont...
There is an urban legend that religious symbolism is actually tucked away in the gifts named in the popular 12 Days of Christmas song. It is questionable whether there is any actual historical importance in the song, but it's interesting to take note of the symbolism that some people have placed on the gifts:
A Partridge in a Pear Tree - Jesus Christ
Two Turtle Doves - The Old and New Testaments
Three French Hens - Faith, Hope and Charity
Four Colly Birds - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John
Five Golden Rings – The five books of Moses
Six Geese-a-Laying – The six days of creation before God rested
Seven Swans-a-Swimming – The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit
Eight Maids-a-Milking – The eight Beatitudes
Nine Ladies Dancing – The nine fruits of the Holy Spirit
Ten Lords-a-Leaping - Ten Commandments
Eleven Pipers Piping - Eleven faithful disciples
Twelve Drummers Drumming -Twelve points of belief in the Apostles' Creed
Theophany:
Orthodox Christians celebrate Epiphany with another focus; Christ's baptism by John the Baptist. Epiphany, which means "to manifest" or "to show" in Greek, is often also called Theophany by the Eastern Church, because it is Christ's presentation to the world as the Son of God.
As John the Baptist said:
"He that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God." -John 1:33-34
All these traditions and celebrations point to a very important truth - that the Son of God came to Earth. The Wise Men and the meek of the earth recognized and worshiped Him. May we continue to worship and serve Him every day of this new year and present to the world the reality of His Life through our own
There's something fun going on over at Beth Moore's blog. Beth had surgery just a couple weeks ago and has to just rest for some weeks. Some of her posts have been serious, such as explaining the reason for her surgery, but I think she must be going stir crazy. She asked (you really need to see her post to see how she got here) everyone to tell whether they are the kind of people who move furniture around a lot or let things just stay forever. So far there are more than 536 comments! I think everyone needed a break from serious issues because some are just too funny. My favorite so far:
Michele said...
But MamaBeth, why does it have to be decided? Why can’t there be both? The way I see it, it’s like Old and New Testaments – different, but they go together. Go with me on this…
(Bear in mind that a number of ancient words can be loosely translated as “sofa table.”)
The non –movers are Old Testament types. Rigid, things have a place and should stay in their place. That’s where our forefathers put the sofa table because that’s where God said to put the sofa table; it’s deeply rooted in historical significance; don’t question it.
The non-movers rest on verses such as:
Only the Levites are to move the holy furniture. “Anyone else who goes near it shall be put to death.” Num 1:51
We all know what happened to Uzzah when he tried to move the ark – yikes! (1Chron 13)
“Be still and know that I am God.” Ps 46:10
“The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved.” Ps 93:1
“Do not move an ancient sofa table set up by your forefathers.” Pr 22:28
“Your eyes will see Jerusalem, a peaceful abode, a tent that will not be moved.” Is 33:20
“They set [the sofa table] up in its place, and there it stands. From that spot it cannot move.” Is 46:7
And Zechariah specifically warned against moving the sofa table – “All who try to move it will injure themselves.” Zech 12:3
Now the movers are New Testament types. New Covenant, new look, let’s shake it up. They move on these verses:
Jesus said it was fine to move things around – “I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard see, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move.” Matt 17:20
“In Him we live and move (the sofa tables) and have our being.” Acts 17:28
Jesus seemed to speak this verse directly to the sofa tables of the world – “Take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’” Lk 14:10
“The old has gone, the new has come!” 2Cor 5:17
And of course, the greatest argument of all for the movers: Jesus himself rearranged the furniture in the temple: “He scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their sofa tables.” Matt 21:12
And Father God came around to the idea of redecorating – he did tear the curtain in two and then he rolled away the stone. And that’s not the end - I just know you’ll cover more of this during your study of Revelation – the planet is due for a makeover!

A lot of news on Israel today, including Joel's newest post.
Spurgeon:
Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.
—1 Peter 5:7
It is a happy way of soothing sorrow when we can feel—"HE careth for me." Christian! do not dishonour religion by always wearing a brow of care; come, cast your burden upon your Lord. You are staggering beneath a weight which your Father would not feel. What seems to you a crushing burden, would be to Him but as the small dust of the balance. Nothing is so sweet as to
"Lie passive in God's hands,
And know no will but His."
O child of suffering, be thou patient; God has not passed thee over in His providence. He who is the feeder of sparrows, will also furnish you with what you need. Sit not down in despair; hope on, hope ever. Take up the arms of faith against a sea of trouble, and your opposition shall yet end your distresses. There is One who careth for you. His eye is fixed on you, His heart beats with pity for your woe, and His hand omnipotent shall yet bring you the needed help. The darkest cloud shall scatter itself in showers of mercy. The blackest gloom shall give place to the morning. He, if thou art one of His family, will bind up thy wounds, and heal thy broken heart. Doubt not His grace because of thy tribulation, but believe that He loveth thee as much in seasons of trouble as in times of happiness. What a serene and quiet life might you lead if you would leave providing to the God of providence! With a little oil in the cruse, and a handful of meal in the barrel, Elijah outlived the famine, and you will do the same. If God cares for you, why need you care too? Can you trust Him for your soul, and not for your body? He has never refused to bear your burdens, He has never fainted under their weight. Come, then, soul! have done with fretful care, and leave all thy concerns in the hand of a gracious God.

Lori, our local news was just doing a roundup of stories around the country. They just came to the part where Florida fruitgrowers are spraying their crops with water to freeze them before they get damaged, and both announcers slowed down. The guy was saying "Oh, we missed it!" and the gal was saying, "I was looking forward to that!" Apparently, they had been told there would be a video of it being so cold, an iguana would fall out of a tree!
Hey, it's Iowa: we're easily amused.
(Presently 12 degrees, -2 wind chill, between 5 and 8 inches of snow.)

Just watching late night news here in Salem, OR. They carried the "it's so cold in FL that iguanas are falling from trees" story too.

Life Among the Philistines
January 6, 2010
"Abraham sojourned in the Philistines' land many days." (Genesis 21:34)
This great man Abraham, who is known for faith as he "sojourned in the land of promise" (Hebrews 11:9), is also recognized for living faithfully among the heathen.
We who are New Testament "children of Abraham" (Galatians 3:7) should understand our role as "ambassadors" (2 Corinthians 5:20) as well as "strangers and pilgrims on the earth" (Hebrews 11:13). Jesus prayed to the heavenly Father "not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil" (John 17:15).
Abraham's life and testimony should encourage us to emulate his reputation. First, those with whom Abraham dealt with recognized "God is with thee in all that thou doest" (Genesis 21:22). Even though Abraham lived among a pagan society, they knew him to be a man of God. Wherever the Lord may place us, our first obligation is to maintain a lifestyle and testimony that leave no question of our allegiance. "And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus" (Colossians 3:17).
Second, the expectations of the world's society is nominally just the same as the Philistines' leader: "That thou wilt not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son's son: but according to the kindness that I have done unto thee, thou shalt do unto me, and to the land wherein thou hast sojourned" (Genesis 21:23). In a purely practical way, "when a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him" (Proverbs 16:7).
Abraham ran a very successful agricultural business with hundreds of employees. He did so maintaining a godly testimony in a pagan society under stressful conditions. In Scripture, he is called the "Friend of God" (James 2:23). Would God this could be said of all of us. HMM III
Lisa,
Regarding "the missing Biblical detail that they'll be blasted to kingdom come in the process."
Maybe that's why our Lord taught us to pray, "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." ;-)
Now Lori doesn't have to make a special recipe for her green scaly friends. All she'll have to do is pop them right into the freezer & the Iguana popsicles will be ready to go for those hot summer days!
I don't want to tell you in San Diego it's in the high 70's & I was sweating in the sun today.{:
I pass that area that is really infested with iguanas every weekday. Lately, there are people standing there staring at the iguanas, which are right-side-up and up-side-down.
It's going to be weird because at some point it's going to warm up enough to "jolt them awake." Can you imagine standing in a field looking at one when they all wake up? (They can run fast) lol I hope someone has a video cam ready.
It's driving my one dog crazy. I believe I have one under a bush out back... Jack just stands there staring. He usually doesn't even like the back yard, lately he cannot get enough. At least the creatures are entertaining Jack.
I haven't seen my camera since Christmas Day. I wish I had it now... I could get some good shots.
Please add a young lady to your prayer list. Her name is Jenn. She was diagnosed with malignant breast cancer yesterday... she is in her 20's. Her mom, Sharon, and I are friends, and she lives in Charlotte. These folks are Christians and would very much appreciate prayer for healing and wisdom. My friend is going to buy her K. E. Hagin's book on Healing Scriptures this morning. thanks
Here's a good video of the iguanas falling out of trees, plus a warning to not collect them in your car while they're in their comatose state!

Today I heard of a way to give a "hit and run" Bible study. You write a Bible verse on a card and hand it to a person.
"Here, I have something for you."
You never know what that might mean to someone.
I thought it was a kind of neat thing to do, especially if you are afraid to witness to others.

Do you recall any mention of smells in conjunction w/the apparitions you have run across?
I recall the smell of flowers? Well, maybe not. I just don't remember that particular detail.
Lisa, what you're talking about is called "the Odor (or Odour) of Sanctity". The Wikipedia article on it is OK, without going into a lot of details. The Odor of Sanctity is a scent that cannot be identified, but it is usually described as the scent of flowers, or of roses -- but different. It's not generally associated with apparitions. Instead, it's usually associated with saints, particularly at their deaths.
In the case of St. Teresa of Avila, she is reported to have died in the odor of sanctity; when her body was exhumed to be moved closer to her home (14? years after she died?), her body was found to be perfectly preserved -- incorrupt. An autopsy was done to determine the extent of the incorruptability. When her body was opened, not only were all her internal organs found to be perfectly preserved (as if she had just died) the scent of flowers filled the monastary where the autopsy was being performed, and remained for several days after the body was moved.
The scent of flowers is not usually associated with apparitions; in fact, I can't recall off the top of my pointy little head any recognized apparitions that included the scent of flowers. If any did, then it was such a minor part of the apparition that it was only mentioned in passing.
(In fact, if any UNrecognized apparitions are reporting the scent of flowers, that would set off my radar. On the one hand, some people keep forgetting that not every apparition is valid. On the other hand, I keep hearing about "people not using discernment" and I have to ask, just what WOULD they consider "a discerned opinion.")

Hope this helps.

Got this from Veith's blog:
Brit Hume's Tiger Woods remarks shine light on true intolerance, by Michael Gerson.
From the article:
But the American idea of religious liberty does not forbid proselytization; it presupposes it. Free, autonomous individuals not only have the right to hold whatever beliefs they wish, they also have the right to change those beliefs and to persuade others to change as well. Just as there is no political liberty without the right to change one's convictions and publicly argue for them, there is no religious liberty without the possibility of conversion and persuasion.
When I read the name Veith in your discussions, I always think you're talking about Walter Veith! I check Walter's website once in a while, which is a good site for creation vs. evolution information.
He was a professor at a South African university who taught evolution until he became a Christian, and now he preaches extensively on creation and end-time events. He may still be a professor, too...don't know.
Here is his website if you're interested: Amazing Discoveries
Praying you'll have a safe trip home, Alesia.

Amazing Discoveries
Morning, all! Yesterday and today I posted something over on the "End Times" thread on Catholic Answers Forum. I'm going to repost them here to get your input.
I think we're about to see the War of Psalm 83 break out in the next couple of months.
In test, Iron Dome successfully intercepts rockets
"Iron Dome" is the Israeli project to create an anti-missile defense system that can defend against Kassam and Grad rocket attacks from Gaza and Lebanon. With this successful test, Israel will start deploying the system along the border with Gaza in mid-2010, beginning with Sderot. This will minimize, if not eliminate, the biggest terror weapon presently being used against Israel. Once they start deploying it along the border with Lebanon, that will minimize the danger posed by the Hez'B'Allah missile system.
Hamas' reaction to this was two-fold. First, they pointed out the cost of each system used in Iron Dome compared with the relatively low cost of a Kassam rocket (which can be built in a garage). Second, they immediately began a barrage of rockets and mortars into Israel, forcing one border crossing to close down.
Rockets, mortar shells fall on Negev, Ashkelon
IDF’s Strongest Retaliation in Gaza Since Cast Lead
This means the enemies of Israel are on a timetable. Once Iron Dome is in place (or even has a few stations operational, such as at Sderot), the main lever they've been using against Israel -- rocket terror -- will no longer be effective. Hez'B'Allah reportedly now has 10 times the number of rockets stored in Lebanon as it had used in the last Lebanon war. If they are going to be effectively used, they will have to be used soon. Add to that the fact that Egypt is now clamping down on the smuggling taking place into Gaza, which includes weapons components, and the pressure is on.
I am thinking either April or May, simply because it's foolish to start a war in winter. In 1972, Egypt and Syria launched the Yom Kippur War on Yom Kippur because the Israeli army bases would have minimal staffing on that day. I don't know if Israel's enemies will be planning for a historic, symbolic date or not. If they are, two dates on the Hebrew calendar stand out:
10 Apr 2010 is Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Memorial Day) -- appropriate for a man who has promised to wipe out Israel from the face of the earth.
10 May 2010 is the anniversary of Adolf Eichmann being hanged, as well as the day the 6-Day War started.
Pray for peace in Jerusalem and Israel.
I just read something that may push the date back to Sept. or Oct. In "COFFEE WITH ISRAEL’S DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER", Joel Rosenberg relates a conversation he had with the deputy FM. In February, the UN will release an update to the Goldstone Commission Report. That is the report that condemned Israel for the Dec. 2008 Gaza War without mentioning the several thousand missiles launched from Gaza or the attacks on Israeli personnel over the previous 8 years. It also ignored numerous documented cases where Hamas used people as human shields or launched attacks from within or next to schools and other "protected" areas in order to provoke an Israeli response. Assuming the updated report will continue to be critical of Israel while glossing over or ignoring the actions of Hamas, the report will increase the present Israeli government's conviction that they will have to "go it alone" in attacking those who are threatening Israel. This will lessen the US influence on holding back Israeli action.
At the same time, in February France will assume the chair of the UN Security Council. If that happens, there is the chance that new sanctions will be imposed on Iran. If that happens, Israel will be forced to wait to see if the sanctions work. Since none of the previous sanctions have worked, I think it's pretty clear how well any new sanctions will work. In the meantime, Iran will have that much more time to work on its nuclear program.
All this will increase the pressure on a very balanced tipping point: which will come first, the need for Israel to attack Iran for its own protection, or the need for Hamas and Hez'B'Allah to attack while they still can. I think the straw on this balancing point will be the speed with which Israel can deploy "Iron Dome". If there are sanctions against Iran, Israel will throw itself into deploying Iron Dome, and may possibly have it up and running before mid-year. In that case expect Hamas et. al. to attack in April or May -- the sooner the better. If there are delays (and show me a military project where there aren't delays), the date for any attack would be pushed back to Sept. or Oct. in order to have more time to prepare and to have more rockets on hand.
If sanctions AREN'T imposed on Iran, then I think Israel will balance the need to take out Iran (April or May) with the need to protect its citizens from the rocket retaliation that is guaranteed to occur (Sept. or Oct.).
In either case, it looks to be a hot year in the Middle East.

Jim C.
The Odour of Sanctity was exactly what I was remembering about a flower/rose smell.
So thanks for clearing that one up for me.
Well as of yesterday our Pastor is preparing the Church for persecution or should I say the "idea" that this may come about @ some point in the near future.
Then last night as I was reading a "Hand of Help" newsletter which happens to cover the same topic & is quite good. Just look at the end under "Dear Brethren".
Aug/Sept/Oct 2009
Whether for expediency's sake, or due to the underlying fear that discovering the truth might contradict our own presupposed interpretation, a great majority in the church today have chosen to clump together the three distinct and independent ideas of judgment, wrath, and persecution, into one interchangeable and confusing mass of doctrinal amalgam.
Due to the blending together of these three individual concepts, many within the house of God today are either confused as to what the end times will be like in respect to the children of God, while others are wholly indifferent and apathetic concerning this topic, because to them it is nothing more than a futile intellectual exercise.
"We're not going to be here anyway, so why bother discussing it? God has not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, so there, it's settled."
This is the danger of clumping together three very different concepts, and drawing our own conclusions. Judgment, wrath, and persecution are very different in and of themselves, and when we place all three under the same umbrella, we get a distorted view of what the future holds for us as children of God.
Of the three, one is reserved exclusively for the godless, one is reserved exclusively for the children of God, and one is interchangeable, poured out over unbelievers, as well as believers who have strayed, or otherwise dismissed the commands of God.
In order to understand the difference between judgment, persecution, and wrath we must take each individual concept, and see what the Word of God would say about each of them. As always, the Word must have the final authority, and as such we must bend our will to conform to the truth of God's Word, rather than bending the truth of God's word to conform to our will.

How often do you want to "get even?"
The Lord despises double standards of every kind.
Proverbs 20:10 NLT
Never pay back evil to anyone. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. Do your part to live in peace with everyone, as much as possible. Dear friends, never avenge yourselves. Leave that to God. For it is written, "I will take vengeance; I will repay those who deserve it," says the Lord.
Romans 12:17-19 NLT
Don't say, "I will get even for this wrong." Wait for the Lord to handle the matter.
Proverbs 20:22 NLT
God's measure
How often do we see the evil around us and pray for God's justice? We wonder, Why does God allow this evil to go on! This kind of thinking leads to two of the most common double standards: (1) judging others more harshly than we judge ourselves, and (2) believing God should judge others but remain lenient with us.
The Lord despises double standards because they elevate one person at the expense of others. These man-made standards also lack the mercy of God.
In our cry for fairness, we should not forget the frightening consequences of justice. As sinners, God could justly destroy each of us today for missing the mark of perfection. When we remember that God's patience and mercy block his judgment towards us, we will more likely show others patience and mercy.
WISE WAYS Before you rush to judge another person, ask yourself whether you would be able to endure the same standard.
Today, Lord, give me strength to replace judgment with mercy.
The news is up.... sorry so late today. Shopped for windows 7, ended up shopping for a laptop, came home empty-handed. Oh well... another time perhaps?

Mind-reading systems could change air security. Quite a few years ago- before 911 even- I was on the way back from London & was pulled aside by a witchy airport security guard who said I looked nervous which had aroused her suspicions.
I got the pat down of the century & she went though my luggage as if I was a spy or something. We were already running behind to board the plane & this just made it worse.
A travel companion got held up & I was wondering where she was but I still wonder what I did that alerted the security officer since I'm not the nervous type.
Now if they use mind reading machines? I'll be doomed for sure one way or another.
Lisa, just keep your mind on the Love of the Lord. "For perfect love casts out fear..."

Jim C, do you mind posting the link to the Catholic end times site? I've looked for it but can't find anything current. If you'd rather keep it to yourself, that's ok. :)
Anne, no problem. It's not a "Catholic End Times" site per se; it's a thread that's occurring in the "Back Fence" subforum at the Catholic Answers web site. The link to it can be found here: End Times Speculation Part VI.
There's also a poll I started called "When Will the Persecution Begin? (2.0) ". It's called version 2.0 because I had started another poll on the same subject back in Jan. of 2009. That poll only had 3 options: Never; By the end of 2009; and By the end of 2010. Since 2009 has ended I decided to close that thread and start this new one. You'll have to register on the site to vote, but don't worry. The site is chock full of heathens, heretics, Muslims, Mormons, and the occasional Presbyterian. You should fit right in. :-)
Oh, and about this being the VI'th version of the End Times thread: The board has a limit of 1000 messages per thread; after that time, it's closed by the administrators. The very first version of the thread was closed down because one of the posters violated a forum rule and mentioned one of the presidential candidates by name.
("Catholic Answers" at the time was engaged in a legal battle with the IRS concerning how much attention a tax-exempt charitable organization can pay to politics. Any mention of any politician by name endangered the organization's tax-exempt status, so any thread that mentioned a politician by name was closed. Catholic Answers has since won their lawsuit against the IRS, which changes the rules for EVERY faith-based charity in America.)
In any case, a new version of the thread with the same name was created, and when that one reached 1000 posts, it was closed and a new version was created, called version "II" (even though it was really "III"). Some of the older posters will joke about that first thread. See this page, and scroll down to the 3rd and 5th messages.

as an additional thought that I had in passing last night-do you suppose that Israel accepts the AC's peace offer and treat confirmation because once the pro Israel Christians are raptured they as a country will have no earthly friends.

Subject: Randy is on his way to Cusco, Peru please pray!
Hey Hun, I am halfway there {Panama} and I have no idea why this notMac is suddenly typing in italics..
Seems consistent to what I was sensing as I prayed on the plane. I do not know a lot about what lies ahead on this trip except that it is right. I will be sharing God's word and ways in leadership with 300 young future leaders of the Quechua church. The only people I know are Pablo, a charismatic young Quechua leader, and his wife Cusi, the daughter of an American missionary and her highly revered Quechua pastor husband who was martyred durning the Shining Path days. As I was praying, the Lord brought a very clear 'I AM WITH YOU' to my spirit in a way that brought instant emotion... that I tried desperately to hide from the sophisticated elderly European woman sitting next to me. It was all I needed as I was wondering about message guidance, daily divine appointments and being useful in this foreign setting where my hotel {praise God} was just confirmed a few hours ago.I am asking God now not just to make my days count, but the moments, too.
Wow. It was just a few hours ago that I was asking you if I should even go. Logic tried to persuade me to bail, based on lack of detail and definition. Now I have a fresh Wind in my sails and can't wait to get on with it. As I think of it, it seems very consistent with our past year. Why should I be surprised...? And we are not atypical. Everywhere I look, from young couples to seasoned pastors, life seems to be 'off script'. Very little is predictable anymore. I sense God is in it, causing us to look to Him and trust Him through the fog of this season. Especially with people who have been so steady and faithful. But faithfulness and faith are two different things, and I know God is calling us to 'add to our faithfulnes, fresh faith' so we can walk out our destiny and possess our inheritance.
Sorry. Not trying to preach at you. I just am adjusting slowly to this new life journey with you and loving every moment...most of the time.
Love you. I will stay in touch as often as I can.

Subject: Randy's update from Cusco, Peru!
Hey Hun,
I got into Lima at midnite and overnighted at a Starbucks in the airport before flying on to Cusco at 530. Its a good thing I worked on my messages all night because they decided to have me start speaking at 9am instead of that evening. That´s right- I got off the plane, drove about 45 minutes outside the city and started speaking...
In times like these, with only a nap on the plane and trying to function at the 10,000 ft. level in the Andes, I realize again just how amazing grace really is. Omar, a young interpreter that we worked with 4 summers ago, was a welcome surprise. The 322 young adults here are hungry, passionate, and responded enthusiastically to my challenge to dream and reach every Quechua tribe (20 still unreached) and village with the gospel. God showed up, and I am jazzed. Tomorrow they have asked me to teach 6 hours. I´m loving the chance to shape these young leaders in the word and ways of God.
I believe this generation will finish the work...
Love and miss you. Soon we will be traveling together.

Hey Hun,
You won´t believe this one...
I arrived back at my room last night only to find an unwanted visitor. When I turned on the bathroom light, there was a big scorpion on the wall. Thank God I saw him first. I exercised the weapons of my warfare, a running shoe, and won the victory. It was the scriptural thing to do-¨Behold, I give you authority to tread on ...scorpions.´¨ Luke 10:19
After a sweep of the room looking for his cousins, I actually slept really well. Passed out may be more like it, totally satisfied with the day in ministry. And in the morning, as I was already scheduled to teach these hungry young leaders on spiritual authority and the weapons of our warfare, I had a great object lesson...
All my love,

Today was a day of ministry I will never forget. Today I was asked to baptize 6 Quechua new believers in a mountain stream at the 12000 ft. level in the Peruvian Andes...
For Becky and I, the Quechua have been a tribe of burden for over 20 years. We first ¨met¨them at a church missions banquet... it was like a blind date. An unreached people group had been identified for every letter of the alphabet and assigned to a table for prayer. Our table got the letter ¨Q¨and the Quechuas. Sovereignly, an unsaved man who had never been to church before sat at our table. His ethnic background? Quechua. Soon God opened doors for me to speak at the national pastor´s conference for the AG in Peru. My interpreter? Quechua (we remain good friends to this day and had a great dinner together tonight). And over the years, our church would raise the funds forQuechua Bible translation, and Becky and I would lead multiple teams into remote Quechua villages. They remain some of our most cherished ministry experiences.
Last summer I was invited to speak at the national gathering for Quechua pastors, which opened the door for my present trip with 300 emerging leaders. While in the town square, I ran into the AG superintendent we worked with 4 years ago, and he invited me to go with him to the village of Huacocuana today.
Over two hours in his pickup truck, and then 40 minutes of 4-wheeling up the side of the mountain on mud roads with steep cliffs- it´s great for your prayer life. Seriously. I was praying hard.
Just 8 years ago there was no church...no Christians in town. Today in this village of thatched roofs and mud bricks, there is a humble sacntuary full of joy in the Lord. Typically, the men play the instruments and the women lead the worship- with a culturally prized shrill that would put chalk and chalkboard to shame, but I love it. After I spoke (as the first white guy ever in the village), we headed off to a mountain snow runoff creek. They outfitted me with some silky white 80´s looking parachute pants and then we listened to the 6 testimonies- stories of alcoholism, runaway kids, and child and spousal abuse- all set free by the power of God. Then it was into the water..barefoot. I didn´t feel a thing. Or was it, I couldn´t feel a thing? I´m so glad that they did not share their testimonies from the water.
After baptizing the last young lady, I walked barefoot across a mountain meadow with overwhelpming gratitude in my heart and feeling returning to my legs. Then, after shedding the parachute pants, it was back to the little church for communion and a celebration meal- cow´s stomach soup...
As we drove back down the mountain (with 21 peple and a black lamb in the back to save them a 3 hour walk home), the kids in the back began to sing at the top of their lungs in their native Quechua, ïn the house of my Father there´s a place for everyone.¨ And as I basked in their joy, I search the mountains for more villages, praying that the day´s redemptive scenerio would be a reality for every Quechua tribe and village...
Thanks again for your partnership in the gospel.

My heart goes out to the poor Haitian people. My father loved Haiti and its people, and organized around 15 mission trips there. He was an optometrist and yearly took other ODs, as well as doctors and dentists and other helpers with him. He also helped build a hospital there, and I pray that this place of healing is still standing.
I went on three of the trips, and a greater need is not known. Those poor people have virtually nothing to begin with, and now this.
And God bless Randy, the man visiting and preaching in Peru. Jim G., is he a relative? I've been to Cuzco, on my way to the Inca Trail, and it is a fascinating place. I hope Randy doesn't overdo it in the altitude. Altitude sickness can really hit you hard, but from Randy's communication it looks like God has spared him that discomfort.
We need to keep Randy and the people in Haiti in our prayers.

Hi Vicki,
Randy was my youth pastor (over 20 years ago). He and his wife are absolutely precious saints. My wife and I were so blessed to know them and be pastored by Randy.
I know what you mean about altitude sickness. I hiked to the top of Half Dome in Yosemite once with a friend. Got altitude sickness. Felt absolutely terrible.
Note from Uncle Bob
Dear Friends,
I wanted to share with you something that I think is very
encouraging relating to the power of prayer.
Saturday night I was reading in a "Voice of the Martyrs" annual
report about the terrible persecution of Christians in Malaysia by the
Muslims. Christians have been tortured and killed, and parents have even
had to watch their children be killed in front of them when they would
not renounce Jesus. Houses and churches burned to the ground. I was led
that night to pray for our Christian brothers and sisters in Malaysia.
The next day I was looking at a book sales report on my book and,
lo and behold, someone in Malaysia purchased my book that day. Malaysia
had never appeared on that report before. I was stunned and mentioned it
to my sister, who in turn asked her Bible study class to also pray for
the persecuted Saints in Malaysia.
Today I decided to look at activity at my web site for the first
time in a few weeks. I was astonished to see that twenty one people from
two cities in Malaysia had gone to the web site and read my old blog
articles in the past three days. No one from Malaysia had ever been on my
web site before. And now, twenty one in three days.
Isn't it spine chilling when we see God working in answer to
prayers like that? We pray about our brothers and sisters twelve thousand
miles away and God shows us almost immediately that distance means
nothing to Him. What he is doing in answer to those prayers we do not
know. But there are no coincidences with God. To see such unusual
activity must mean that He is indeed strengthening those persecuted
souls, just as we had prayed that He would.
There is nothing more powerful than prayer.
In His Son shine, Bob
Lori, that is so encouraging! I often, weekly if not at times daily, pray for someone far away, someone I might never hear about or I might never hear any kind of confirmation or acknowledgement that my prayer was heard. I pray by faith, that God hears and will act, according to His will. Thank you.
Thank you, Jim G. May God bless and keep them.
I'm not sure what or how to ask all of you, but my nephew Thomas needs some serious prayer on his behalf. He called me last night, and he is being very oppressed by the dark forces. I asked for help from G_D last night before I went to bed; but somehow I feel like this is beyond the usual into his life hangs by a hair. You all cannot know how your prayers would help me.--Sara

Keeping Randy in prayer and the Malaysian Christians. Sara, am also praying for your nephew.
Very sad day for me. Alesia flies out today.
Sara, I'm glad you asked us for prayers. I will pray for Thomas, and also the other requests.
Mac and Alesia, I hope that someday soon you won't have to part like this!
Dear Sara,
Am praying for your nephew. This is a very scary thing. Is Thomas a Christian? Has he dabbled into anything occultish lately (i.e. ouija board?) Does he have anything in his house that may have occult connections?
I just happen to be rereading a book by Roger Morneau called "More Incredible Answers to Prayer". If you can lay your hands on this book or any of his books, I would recommend it.
Mr. Morneau as a young man was deeply into spirit worship, and God miraculously saved him out of it. He addresses your nephew's problem in his chapter, "Kept From Demon Spirits by the Power of Prayer."
Here is one quote that he quoted in his book,"Earnest, perservering supplication to God in faith...can alone avail to bring men the Holy Spirit's aid in the battle against principalities and powers, the rulers of the darkness of this world, and wicked spirits in high places." Desire of Ages, p.431
May Thomas turn to the Lord in prayer for protection.
Mac, my sympathies are with you and Alesia. Sad day indeed.
Obama on Haiti
Finally, I want to speak directly to the people of Haiti. Few in the world have endured the hardships that you have known. Long before this tragedy, daily life itself was often a bitter struggle. And after suffering so much for so long, to face this new horror must cause some to look up and ask, have we somehow been forsaken?
To the people of Haiti, we say clearly, and with conviction, you will not be forsaken; you will not be forgotten. In this, your hour of greatest need, America stands with you. The world stands with you. We know that you are a strong and resilient people. You have endured a history of slavery and struggle, of natural disaster and recovery. And through it all, your spirit has been unbroken and your faith has been unwavering. So today, you must know that help is arriving -- much, much more help is on the way.

Well, Alesia's on the plane and headin' home. Not sure what to do with myself.

My in-laws called last night after coming out of the Jupiter Applebee's and said there was a ring cloud directly over them. I asked Sharon to take a picture, but she couldn't with her phone. I didn't know where she was at the time, so I, being in WPB, scanned the sky and saw far out west and north of us, what I thought she was looking at. It appeared to be a perfect ring. I told her I could see it from my house, I told her, "It's west right?" That's when she told me she was coming out of Applebee's and it was over head. She then looked west and saw the one I was looking at. I sent a picture of the ring cloud over Moscow and here was her response:
Yes, there was one almost on top of us - just to the east and then the one you pointed out to us behind us that was bathed in the pink sunset...On TV last night, channel. 5, said they THOUGHT they are caused by airplanes going up through the clouds; interesting we never saw them before though.
Here's a picture from local news and Sharon's response to this picture.
However the one they showed on the Tv - see the website just below - was not defined or as "ringed" as the ones we saw. Copy and paste but the picture Lori sent was more like it.
Thanks for your kind words, Jeri. May God bless you and your family.
Won't have time for elixirs today, Jim. It's nearly 6:00 AM and I'm sipping my second cup of coffee getting ready to head out to help a friend move house.
I'll try to catch up with you all later.

To Ponder with Prayer
by David Servant
When a new year begins, it seems like a natural time to make evaluations about the past year and plan changes for the new one, which many people do. Followers of Christ, of course, are evaluating their lives much more frequently than once every twelve months. Still, there is something special about the start of a new year. So as 2010 begins, I would like to suggest that we reflect on getting "back to the basics." I'm speaking, in fact, of the most basic of the basics. If we focus on that one thing, our spiritual lives become much less complicated, and everything else falls into place. That most basic thing is, of course, loving God.
Below are seven short thoughts to prayerfully ponder about loving God. I recommend taking them slowly, one at a time, with some pause for reflection. Or better, focus on just one each day for the next seven days during your daily prayer time.
Amazingly, God loved us when we were His enemies. He patiently and mercifully wooed and drew us, ultimately capturing us with His love. He then adopted us into His family, and we were born of the Spirit. All of this was not without great cost to Him. We have been bought with a very high price, the blood of Christ. Who else has loved us to that degree? God deserves to be loved supremely, more than all others whom we love. Jesus declared, "He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me" (Matt. 10:37).
Do I love Him more than anyone else? Others likely know, by observation, if I love my children or grandchildren. Do they know, by observation, that I love God supremely above all others?
We all know that, according to Jesus, the foremost commandment is to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength (Mark 12:30). Those four words, heart, soul, mind and strength, encapsulate everything we are, which must be why God strung them together in His foremost commandment. God commands us to love Him with our entire beings. He expects nothing less.
Can I say, honestly, that I love God with all my heart, soul, mind and strength? Is that love reflected in what I do with my time, talents and treasures?
Those four conjoined words contained in the foremost commandment---heart, soul, mind and strength---call into question the idea that I can love God with my heart but not with my actions, that is, my "strength." When I excuse my actions by saying, "Well, God knows my heart," I am fooling myself. My actions reveal my heart.
We can, and should, evaluate our love for God by our actions. God evaluates our love for Him by our actions (see Deut. 13:3). Jesus told us that if we love Him, there will be action. We will keep His commandments (see John 14:15).
Do my actions testify of my love for God? Am I obeying Jesus' commandments, reflecting my love for Him?
If there is a single, simple explanation for what is wrong with the world, it is: God is not loved as He should be loved. Consequently, God is not obeyed as He should be obeyed.
If there is a single, simple explanation for what is wrong with any of us who believe, it is: God is not loved as He should be loved. Consequently, God is not obeyed as He should be obeyed.
cont...
What holds anyone back from loving God as He should be loved? If there is a single, simple answer to that question, it is: There are other things that we love that usurp God's rightful place in our hearts. There is no shortage of potential lovers lurking around, baiting unbelievers and believers alike for a cheap and temporal relationship. They are lovers with names such as "the things of this world," "the approval of men," "self," and "money":
Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him (1 John 2:15).
They loved the approval of men rather than the approval of God (John 12:43).
For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God (2 Tim. 3:2-4, emphasis added).
Notice that the Bible pits all of these against the love of God. If I love the things of this world, the approval of others, myself, or money, I give to other lovers what only God deserves. I am an idolater. Scripture makes that clear. There is really no middle ground on these things.
Does my daily life reveal a fondness for other lovers?
It seems that when people who are striving to please God are always miserable, they either don't understand what true holiness is, or they are probably obeying God for the wrong reason, a reason other than love for Him. Holiness that is motivated by something other than love can be drudgery. Serving out of love brings joy. What a difference it makes to obey God because you love Him.
Am I serving the Lord with gladness?
Like any relationship, a relationship with God that begins with sincere and devoted love can slowly grow cold. It happened at Ephesus. The initial revival there was white hot with passion. New converts were publicly burning magic books, a declaration of their devotion to Christ (see Acts 19:18-20). But a few decades later, Jesus told them, "I have this against you, that you have left your first love" (Rev. 2:4). It was like a dying marriage in which former lovers had become nothing more than housemates. What should the Ephesians do? Jesus told them: "Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first" (Rev. 2:5). Praise God that there was mercy offered, as well as a new chance to start over. But repentance was the first step. It always is.
Was there previously more passion in my walk with God? Have I left my first love?
The truth is, we are all just as close to the Lord as we want to be. The Word says, "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you" (James 4:8). How close do I want to be to the Lord? The answer is: Just as close as I am right now.
You may have heard the story about the elderly farmer's wife who let out a big sigh as she and her husband stared at a couple in the pickup truck ahead of theirs while waiting at a stoplight. "Remember when we used to sit that close together wherever we went?" she asked her husband. He dryly replied, "I never moved."
Have I moved? Was I at one time closer to God?
May 2010 be a year that you continually draw nearer to the One who loves you like no other.
Lisa, I've been wondering where you were! Glad you're back.
Can't blue link right now, I'm listening to the live broadcast of Carter Conlon "The Final Warning..." can't remember the whole title. He says it's a prophetic message that is hard for him to give. If you want to listen live here's the link
http://www.tscnyc.org/live_events.php
"A Final Warning to the Indulgent Church"
Anne, That was an excellent message, thanks for sharing. I'm posting it on the news site, which is ready for today.
Almost half the links today are to news stories that directly affect Israel.
Anne,
I'm going to definitely listen to that one when I have a chance.
It was about 5 days ago? approx. I was deeply pondering what is going on prophetically, in the world, is the Lord preparing His children for something- and if so what? (My typical barrage of questions) When the words "Last Call" came to mind.
Although I have all sorts of things going through this grey matter which I typically kick out- I think the Holy Spirit was impressing these two words- "Last Call".
I've been writing in a journal what I think may be from the Lord & then just check back w/it to see if what I wrote comes to pass or has further meaning. I've only been doing it since 9/09 so it's just a baby journal.
If it's not a personal word & then suddenly other Christians come up w/the same words/ideas then I'm more confident it was a real message & not just my own fleeting thought or a trick from another spirit.
We just began studying Spiritual gifts in my small group- took one of those tests by Dr. Charles Stanley-In Touch Ministries & then I'm in another group starting up this week taught by our pastor's wife on the Holy Spirit & I heard it covers the same subjects.
So- after I'm inundated w/this topic hopefully I come out w/more
in depth knowledge.
The part I really love is how God designed us as individuals & how our DNA-personalities contribute to which gifts we receive. A deeper revelation of this causes one to be able to truly appreciate & love others even when their perspective & gifts are the complete opposite.
The other week our Pastor admitted that in His studies he can go up in the clouds so to speak (which I would tend to also be) & that his wife has to bring him back down to the pragmatic and practical application of His findings.
So basically since individually we don't have the fullness of all the gifts & attributes-it's beneficial to discuss & pair up w/others in the Body to incorporate them as one. Individuals working together for the whole in Christ & in unity.
Ephesians 4:16 from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.
Hello all. Still reading, here. Haven't piped up in a while.
I went to the link for the Conlon message, but don't see a message with that title. Maybe it is this week's and it will be put on later? I've never listened to him before, so thought I'd check it out. I do like listening to Steve Hadley via downloads.
I read yesterday that there was an earthquake in Iran with a depth of 6.2. Wasn't there something of interest in quakes at that depth?
And a 6.3 quake in Argentina today at a depth of 6.2 miles.
HB, when I posted the link it was the live feed (is that the right word?) I just went to their site with sermons listed and this morning's isn't there yet. And when I click on the live button, nothing comes up. Just thought I'd check that to see what happens.
I guess it will be posted this afternoon on the sermons page.
I don't know if there was something of interest about a quake at the depth of 6.2, but on the usgs site, the last 5 out of 6 listed are at a depth of about 10 km (6.2 mi).
Anne, I inquired about this in the past, here was their response:
The depth where the earthquake begins to rupture. This depth may be
relative to mean sea-level or the average elevation of the seismic
stations which provided arrival-time data for the earthquake location. The
choice of reference depth is dependent on the method used to locate the
earthquake. Sometimes when depth is poorly constrained by available
seismic data, the location program will set the depth at a fixed value.
For example, 33 km is often used as a default depth for earthquakes
determined to be shallow, but whose depth is not satisfactorily determined
by the data, whereas default depths of 5 or 10 km are often used in
mid-continental areas and on mid-ocean ridges since earthquakes in these
areas are usually shallower than 33 km.
Yeah, I'm not buying it either.
Anne, I should clarify, the reason I was so inquisitive about the depths had to do with not only the common depth within a certain point scale, but that the depth provided is about as deep as our technology allows us to dig.
my bad, I guess we can dig a little deeper these days. But not too much farther due to heat.
Lori, my fuzzy brain isn't grasping all that, think I need more coffee? Hyde, fire up the percolator!
I'll take some, too. Make mine a mocha. Just got up from a nap. Now, I need to reboot.
Be forewarned... the caffeine will make you sharper than a Ginsu knife, but you'll be too shaky to hold it!
Hey, fellow preppers, I'm trying something just to see if it works. I've started some seeds already (our last frost date is May 12) and I'm going to see if I can grow food indoors. I have some pea and bean seedlings already and I did nothing fancy, just stuck the seeds in the dirt along with my schefflera and they've sprouted already!
I'll let you know if I'm able to grow anything I can actually eat!
OK, I'm off to help DH get his computer fixed. Is everyone having computer troubles??
Anne, the percolator is on. Alesia has PC problems as well. PC gremlins seem to be working overtime.
New post is up.
For those in CA/Oregon:
Subject: HUNKER DOWN
Get ready. This is what the emergency response community is saying:
Currently, the strong El Nino is reaching its peak in the Eastern Pacific, and now finally appears to be exerting an influence on our weather. The strong jet has been apparent for quite some time out over the open water, but the persistent block had prevented it from reaching the coast. Now that the block has dissolved completely, a 200+ kt jet is barreling towards us. Multiple large and powerful storm systems are expected to slam into CA from the west and northwest over the coming two weeks, all riding this extremely powerful jet stream directly into the state. The jet will itself provide tremendous dynamic lift, in addition to directing numerous disturbances right at the state and supplying them with an ample oceanic moisture source. The jet will be at quite a low latitude over much of the Pacific, so these storms will be quite cold, at least initially. Very heavy rainfall and strong to potentially very strong winds will impact the lower elevations beginning late Sunday and continuing through at least the following Sunday. This will be the case for the entire state, from (and south of) the Mexican border all the way up to Oregon.
Above 3000-4000 feet, precipitation will be all snow, and since temperatures will be unusually cold for a precipitation event of this magnitude, a truly prodigious amount of snowfall is likely to occur in the mountains, possibly measured in the tens of feet in the Sierra after it's all said and done. But there's a big and rather threatening caveat to that (discussed below).Individual storm events are going to be hard to time for at least few more days, since this jet is just about as powerful as they come (on this planet, anyway).
Between this Sunday and the following Sunday, I expect categorical statewide rainfall totals in excess of 3-4 inches. That is likely to be a huge underestimate for most areas. Much of NorCal is likely to see 5-10 inches in the lowlands, with 10-20 inches in orographically-favored areas. Most of SoCal will see 3-6 inches at lower elevations, with perhaps triple that amount in favored areas.
Cont...
This is where things get even more interesting, though. The models are virtually unanimous in "reloading" the powerful jet stream and forming an additional persistent kink 2000-3000 miles to our southwest after next Sunday. This is a truly ominous pattern, because it implies the potential for a strong Pineapple-type connection to develop. Indeed, the 12z GFS now shows copious warm rains falling between days 12 and 16 across the entire state. Normally, such as scenario out beyond day seven would be dubious at best. Since the models are in such truly remarkable agreement, however, and because of the extremely high potential impact of such an event, it's worth mentioning now. Since there will be a massive volume of freshly-fallen snow (even at relatively low elevations between 3000-5000 feet), even a moderately warm storm event would cause very serious flooding. This situation will have to monitored closely. Even if the tropical connection does not develop, expected rains in the coming 7-10 days will likely be sufficient to cause flooding in and of themselves (even in spite of dry antecedent conditions).
In addition to very heavy precipitation, powerful winds may result from very steep pressure gradients associated with the large and deep low pressure centers expect ed to begin approaching the coast by early next week. Though it's not clear at the moment just how powerful these winds may be, there is certainly the potential for a widespread damaging wind event at some point, and the high Sierra peaks are likely to see gusts in the 100-200 mph range (since the 200kt jet at 200-300 mb will essentially run directly into the mountains at some point). The details of this will have to be hashed out as the event(s) draw closer.
In short, the next 2-3 weeks (at least) are likely to be more active across California than any other 2-3 week period in recent memory. The potential exists for a dangerous flood scenario to arise at some point during this interval, especially with the possibility of a heavy rain-on-snow event during late week 2. In some parts of Southern California, a whole season's worth of rain could fall over the course of 5-10 days. This is likely to be a rather memorable event. Stay tuned.

Until we have our final 501c3 approval, all contributions/ monthly support should be directed to:
Light International, a wonderful ministry who will provide monthly receipts and year-end records for tax purposes. If you desire to invest in our God-given call, please send to the following address (support can also be given online):
Light International
PO Box 668548
Pompano Beach, FL, 33066
Please note these funds are for the Young's support, either by post-it note on the check or by just writing it on the envelope. For online contributions:
www.lightinternational.org/giving Go to Give Online and fill out all the information needed to set up an account with them. Go to the Fund dropdown arrow and look up our names, click on them and go from there.
Thank-you so much.
