C S Lewis on Christ

I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: 'I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept His claim to be God.' That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic -- on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg -- or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to. – Mere Christianity, pages 40-41.

Good post, DF

Have you ever rebelled against God?

"My wayward children," says the Lord, "come back to me, and I will heal your wayward hearts."
Jeremiah 3:22 NLT

"When I refused to confess my sin, I was weak and miserable, and I groaned all day long. Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and you stopped trying to hide them. I said to myself, 'I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.' And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone."
Psalm 32:3-5 NLT

"Create in me a new heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me... Restore to me again the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you."
Psalm 41:10,12

A tug-of-war with God

The rebel rejects the expectations, rules, and power of the organization or individual holding authority.

Rebellion can be good, as when we rebel against unjust or sinful societal pressure.

Rebellion is like a great tug-of-war; the authority figure holds one end of the rope while the rebel pulls on the other. The picture changes dramatically if we imagine the rebel's feet being mired in quicksand. Such is rebellion against God. God pulls on the rope, not to ruin our lives, but to lead us toward safe footing.

Rom 8:35-39 Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Just as it is written, "FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE BEING PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG; WE WERE CONSIDERED AS SHEEP TO BE SLAUGHTERED." But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Church Sign Fail

Jim G. said...

One of the most wonderful pastors that I have ever known is a man who served as the High School and College Pastor at a church my wife and I attended in San Jose (back in the 1980's). His name is Randy Young and his wife is Becky.

God has since called them to the mission field. I have to share two recent letters. Enjoy (and be encouraged).

Jim G. said...

Tues. 11/10/2009

To all our friends and family-

As we continue to bring to birth the missions dream our God has
assigned to us in this season, we are humbled and thrilled with His
sovereign hand on The Agora Group. It has, no doubt, been our most
interesting year yet in ministry, and the wind of God in our sails has
never been stronger.

After eleven weeks and 9000 miles, Randy is home from a Midwest
itineration swing. Preaching God's heart for the Nations in a dozen
churches, casting vision with over 100 pastors, and connecting with
numerous friends was exhaustingly rewarding. The September trip to
Valley Forge Christian College resulted in a God-ordained, formal
partnership. The Agora Group is now an official extension of the
college, and soon we will begin to recruit faculty, staff and
students. The dream is coming to life....

On Thursday Randy goes back to Colombia with tent and sleeping bag
bound for the hot Amazon and the cold Andes, the former with 40 young
leaders reaching seven tribes (who had one of their young peers
martyred just last November), and the latter with 60 leaders working
among three tribes. The team will actually meet with this second group
of amazing young leaders in the territory of the Arhuacos, a totally
unreached tribe. Join us in prayer for the church of Jesus Christ to
be established among this tribe that is so closed that no politicians
or missionaries have been allowed in. Yet God has opened a miraculous
door, and our team is by faith walking through it (I Cor. 16:9). In
times like these, we really find out just how much of our security is
in God's sovereignty.... and just how much we trust Him as the Lord of
our family and the Giver of our destiny and days. Lead on, Lord Jesus.

On a financial note, we now have 31 of our needed "Agora 100" ministry
supporters, resulting in 33% of our monthly budget raised. It is an
uphill climb of faith, and we stand amazed at the sustaining
faithfulness of God in 2009 through the sacrificial generosity of all
who believe in our Call. If you are not yet one of the "Agora 100,"
would you please prayerfully consider us for monthly support? Also,
please think of The Agora Group if you practice year-end ministry
giving. We only have about $10,000 of the initial $36,000 left to
raise to cover our first year start-up costs. Our confidence is in
the One who has never failed us...

We hope there will be some remote internet cafes along the way so
Randy can send updates from Colombia. Thanks in advance for covering
this trip in prayer. We are believing for breakthrough in the lives of
these leaders, resulting in transformed churches that will transform
the tribes of Colombia for God's glory. He is so worthy.

When you get a chance, please give us an update from your corner of
His Kingdom. Until then,

Forever family,
Randy and Becky

Subject: Update from Randy in Colombia!

Hi guys,

This is the letter I just recieved from Randy. Hope you enjoy reading it and I'll send more as he writes. Your prayers mean more than words can express, Thanks so much!

Becky

Hey Hun, finally found an internet cafe. I will try to catch you up over the next several days of all the joys and challenges of Colombia from my journal. Miss you...

As I lay here in my tent with spanish being spoken all around me, I really miss my wife and have a craving for some cheese.. The last three days have been goat and potato soup (twice), fish and yucca soup, and some wild pig meat for breakfast that they killed for us last night- tasty... I´m dreaming of the Crepes and Waffles restaurant at the Bogta airport... Heavy rains caused us to set up our tents indoors on a cement slab. Help my back, Lord.

It is all so much more than worth it...

I have just spent two days with some of the most precious and persecuted Christians I have ever known personally. Young leaders from 3 mountain tribes, the Arhuacos, Wayuu and Cougi, have an infectious love for Jesus and are full of Kingdom questions. They are the future of the church in their tribes, despite being ostracized, stripped of tribal status and work opportunites, and tortured as they translate God´s word into their tongues. One young Arhuacos leader, Carlos, just became the first bible school graduate ever from his tribe. He has a burden to plant a church... no church currently exists within the tribal borders. He has been told a tribal jail awaits him if he tries...

Their stories have brought fresh light to familiar scriptures and new insights to life messages. They are as those in the book of Acts- ¨They have received the Word gladly. Our prayer times together have been incredible.

Our last morning here was a wonderful orchestration of the Spirit. Great questions on church and culture, life and legalism, anc carrying the heart of the Father to their tribes, all followed by Communion. Only three days together, yet tears of joy for what the Lord has done among us. Now it´s off to a remote Arhuacos village, totally untouched by the word and ways of God...

A priest, a preacher and a Rabbi walked into their favorite bar, where they would get together two or three times a week for drinks and to talk shop.

On this particular afternoon, someone made the comment that preaching to people isn't really all that hard. A real challenge would be to preach to a bear.

One thing led to another and they decided to do an experiment. They would all go out into the woods, find a bear, preach to it, and attempt to convert it.

Seven days later, they're all together to discuss the experience.

Father Flannery, who has his arm in a sling, is on crutches, and has various bandages, goes first. "Well," he says, "I went into the woods to find me a bear. And when I found him I began to read to him from the Catechism. Well, that bear wanted nothing to do with me and began to slap me around. So I quickly grabbed my holy water, sprinkled him and he became as gentle a lamb. The bishop is coming out next week to give him first communion and confirmation."

Reverend Billy Bob spoke next. He was in a wheelchair, with an arm and both legs in casts, and an IV drip. In his best fire and brimstone oratory he claimed, "WELL brothers, you KNOW that we don't sprinkle! I went out and I FOUND me a bear. And then I began to read to my bear from God's HOLY WORD! But that bear wanted nothing to do with me. So I took HOLD of him and we began to wrestle. We wrestled down one hill, UP another and DOWN another until we came to a creek. So I quick DUNKED him and BAPTIZED his soul. And just like you said, he became as gentle as a lamb. We spent the rest of the day praising Jesus."

They both looked down at the rabbi, who was lying in a hospital bed. He was in a body cast and traction with IV's and monitors running in and out of him. He was in bad shape.

The rabbi looks up and says, "Looking back on it, circumcision may not have been the best way to start."

Jim G. said...

Good one!
Thanks for the laugh;-)

The priest, preacher and Rabbi should have stuck togehter though rather than going it alone. Doesn't Scripture instruct us to "bear one another's burden's"?

Come to think of it, there may be several passages that fit the story.

Finally, let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus.
Galations 6:17

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
Ephesians 4:2

Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
Colossians 3:13

Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of the disciples a yoke that neither we nor our fathers have been able to bear?
Acts 15:10 (a passage regarding circumcision not being necessary for Gentile believers)

A Preacher, a Barber, and Free Will

A preacher and an atheistic barber were once walking through the city slums. Said the barber to the preacher: "This is why I cannot believe in a God of love. If God was as kind as you say, He would not permit all this poverty, disease, and squalor. He would not allow these poor bums to be addicted to dope and other character-destroying habits. No, I cannot believe in a God who permits these things."

The minister was silent until they met a man who was especially unkempt and filthy. His hair was hanging down his neck and he had a half-inch of stubble on his face. Said the minister: "You must not be a very good barber because you wouldn't permit a man like that to continue living in this neighborhood without a haircut and shave." Indignantly the barber answered: "Why blame me for that man's condition? I can't help it that he is like that. He has never come in my shop; I could fix him up and make him look like a gentleman!"

Giving the barber a penetrating look, the minister said: "Then don't blame God for allowing the people to continue in their evil ways, when He is constantly inviting them to come and be saved."

The consequences of unconfessed sin

"If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, my Lord would not have listened. But God did listen! He paid attention to my prayer."
Psalm 66:18-19 NLT

The elephant in the room

It is bad to be in trouble. It is worse to be in trouble and on the outs with God. According to this passage, penned by King David, if we are harboring sinful attitudes in our hearts or willfully indulging in sinful activities, we should not expect God to respond to our prayers.

This is not because God doesn't love us. He does—more than we realize. It's not because God doesn't want to help us. He longs to deliver us. It's simply that a holy God cannot wink at sin or look the other way. Intimacy with God requires honesty, humility, purity.

For us to attempt to approach God without first addressing the ways in which we have knowingly offended and wronged him is an exercise in futility. Sin is the "elephant in the room" that must be acknowledged and dealt with. Once we do that, we again enjoy sweet fellowship with God. Clean and forgiven, we can be sure he hears our pleas for help.

Praying God's Promise:
Lord, you do not listen to my prayers when I have unconfessed sin in my life. By your Spirit give me the humility I need to take a hard look at my soul. Show me, God, any wrong attitudes and actions that I need to acknowledge. I want to be right with you. I want to be close to you. Thank you for pledging to hear those who humble themselves and acknowledge their sin. May my sins, which block me from you when I don't confess them, become a bridge to you as I admit them, forsake them, and experience your forgiveness.

ok, new question

so, we were told to exclude cow's milk protein for son due to allergy (if you will recall I was somewhat skeptical) based on blood work. well had skin testing done today and not allergic to milk but had significant local reaction (read allergy) for soy (which of course is what we've been giving him for the last week or so instead of cow's milk) although allergist would not commit as to whether it was problem with constipation. sooo, any information about soy avoidance or sites which will tell which foods, restaurents etc. good thing he doesn't wheeze etc with it.

so now we are to exclude soy for awhile and see if it makes a difference if not, not to worry about it.

Scott Robinson said...

Hey Jib,
Don't remember the details of your child's allergies, but food allergies are tricky.
Types of testing and accuracy
RAST 100% very expensive
ImmunoCAP 90-100% about $150-300
skin testing about 30% correlation with above.

So, here's the problem. Let's say kid has a huge flare on skin testing and NO symptoms when they eat the food. They still could be reacting to it in ways you can't see like PMN demargination into the gut lining, or elevation of CRP and ESR. Or, conversely, let's say they have no reaction on skin test and huge symptoms like rashes or nausea and vomiting. So, RAST or ImmunoCAP testing is a start, then, do the "substitution diet", where you withhold all the foods with positive tests for two weeks, then gradually re-introduce one food at a time every two weeks until the symptom in question returns. This is very accurate, but time consuming. Since I don't know your individual situation, this all might be way off.

In His Grip,
Scott

no symptoms other than unrelenting constipation. started with diurnal enuresis in previously trained boy which is felt to be due to the constipation he's had essentially since birth (does not appear to be consistent with Hirschprung's or the like). he was fine on miralax but urology wanted gi to see. RAST done but peds and allergist seem to think not as good as sking testing so skin testing in conflict with RAST on soy and cows milk protein. at any rate RAST was class 1 for milk protein which we've been told by our peds that she rarely treats. he have had him on dairy free diet for about a week now and constipation off miralax has steadily been getting worse (not the best advertisement for dairy free diet as solution to problem). enuresis was gone on miralax which was what started the whole thing in the first place.

thanks for the input. i do feel like pulling my hair out. I did a fellowship in colon and rectal so it is especially ironic that son has an issue lol. the collie dog when he was alive had ulcerative colitis which amused everyone no end. except the collie and me.

I think at this point I am more inclined to toss out the food allergies and just give him the miralax. he drink a lot of water and we do give a fiber supplement although he loves veggies, not fruit so much. that and push the issue of fruit which seems to be a texture thing and not a taste thing so if any one has any ideas on how to get by the texture issue I'm all ears

mac said...

Wish I could help, Jib. I'm basically a garbage guts who can eat just about anything without any problems.

Anne said...

A child that loves veggies! I wish!

I used to hide veggies by grating them into breads like banana bread, maybe you could do that with apples, pears and other fruits. I also put them in spaghetti sauce. I know fresh would be better than cooked. How about grated apples mixed in peanut butter, and then make a sandwich or peanut butter balls. Also, have you given him dried apricots? They work wonders for constipation. If he hasn't had them before be sure they are not the darker ones, they can be bitter. The lighter colored ones are sweeter.

I was happy to learn about about enuresis, my little granddaughter is experiencing that right now (fully potty trained) and I'm convinced it's stress related. I'm caring for her these days and decided to let her use pullups during this stressful time, I think she'll come out of it ok.

Jen said...

Hi jib,
We have one texture freak here (pasta in any form except spaghetti won't pass his lips and sometimes he gags on other stuff that is squishy, too). To help him along with some things, I add a crunchy texture which he has no trouble with. I finally got him to eat tunafish by making 'tuna crackers' instead of tuna on bread. The focus on the crunch distracts him from the squishy tuna and he eats them like a champ now.
When he was younger, almost everything could gag him, so when he started the reflex, I'd have him do something distracting that involved him thinking, like playing eye-spy or counting the number of such-and-such on his plate. As he got older, we'd ask him questions like "Which do you like more...snakes or scorpions?" With his mind off the food in his mouth, he'd swallow to answer the question and eventually, with alot of patience, he'd eat his meal.
Your guy is probably too old for this, but I'd get his dessert ready ahead of time and for every bite of good food he ate, I'd give him a bit of dessert. The other 2 would fuss about having to wait, but in the end they all got their dessert and the struggle was much less when I did it that way.
Today the only thing he still refuses is the pasta, but I don't work with him like I used to either.
His brother, on the other hand, will eat anything you set in front of him with some strange fruit exceptions....anything in the melon family is tough and fresh peaches. I think it's a taste thing for those foods. He'll sometimes eat them if they're cut up really small and I can mix them with other fruits he likes.
---------------------------
Will be praying for his restoration in every area!

Blessings,
Jen

thanks for the tidbits. you know it is quite irritating because when he was an infant I made all his baby food (he rarely ate store bought baby food) and he loved the fruits but not the veggies. oh well. I think we'll have to fall back on the eat this or you don't get anything else for snacks option. works most of the time but I hate to use that. or may be for each set of fruit stickers he earns we'll go to a special restaurant to eat-that worked with potty training.

any ideas on which fruits? I think we will for sure do apples.

Be Not Afraid

Eighty years ago the stock market crashed and out of the financial misery the Great Depression emerged. What had been years in the making struck hard one bleak day, leaving the world anxious and afraid.

Analysts are comparing some of what is happening to day to that era, wondering if we too have set something into motion that can’t be stopped. Perhaps we have, financially. But the picture is bigger than that. It’s about more than money, our material comfort, and our puffy little lives.

Through His prophets and circumstances, God repeatedly warned the children of Israel that it was time to turn back to Him, to repent, to restore their relationship with Him.

But finally, they had set in motion something that could not be stopped, and soon they faced more than economic disaster. Their entire way of life was destroyed as Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylonian army conquered Jerusalem and the people were taken in captivity.

The people cried out to the prophet Jeremiah, asking him to tell them what to do, even promising to obey what he said. The message God gave His people was this: Do not run away to Egypt! Don’t try to escape the war and hunger. Remain in the land. Stand fast.

“If you stay in this land, I will build you up and not tear you down; I will plant you and not uproot you, for I am grieved over the disaster I have inflicted on you,” the Lord promised (Jeremiah 42).

Likewise, today, I believe God is calling us to stand fast, not to run away to the world or go hide in some survivalist camp and protect only our own interests. This is not the time for another American revolution. It’s time for a revival! We can’t cling to the comforts we have at the expense of our relationship with the Lord. Our lives have grown so puffed up and complicated. God is calling His church to simplify our hearts and lives to an attitude of prayer, worship, serving one another, and demonstrating His love.

Judgment is coming, and I don’t believe we can stop what has been set into motion. But as God calls us to repent and return to Him, He also assures us just as He spoke to the children of Israel long ago:

“‘Do not be afraid of the king of Babylon, whom you now fear. Do not be afraid of him,’ declares the Lord, ‘for I am with you and will save you and deliver you from his hands. I will show you compassion so that he will have compassion on you and restore you to your land’” (Jeremiah 42: 11-12).

As we prepare to close another year and look forward to the new one, I believe the Lord is telling me and our church, “Do not be afraid.”

Don’t run away from the Lord, from fellowship, from accountability, and the issues at hand. Don’t despair. Don’t fear the future. Turn to Him and allow Him to carry you through whatever is ahead. Whatever you now fear, as the children of Israel feared the king of Babylon, put it in the hands of the Lord, for He says most clearly:

“Fear not, for I am with you. Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. I will uphold you with My righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).

Lord Bless You,

Pastor Ray

Another great e-mail just received from our dear brother Randy Young (forwaded by his wife Becky)

Date: Thu 11/19/2009
Subject: Update 2 from Colombia!

Next update from Randy...hope you don't mind reading my mail:-)

Hey babe, internet from the Amazon is impossible. I have missed talking with you. Here is the wrap up from the Andes... if I can figure out this crazy keyboard. We just visited a remote Arhuacos village.. wow. It is a matriachal society, and this particular village was led by a lady with 60 grandkids... As a people, they are extremely poor, laid back, and suspicious, My friend Helman has been building a relationship with them and serving them, opening a door to this totally closed tribe. They said, you are not like the other missionaries who only wanted to sing and read the bible to us. The have some of the most unique and unprintable cultural customs ever, and I stood in the middle of a cocaine field for the first time in my life... That in part explains much of the above and their extreme need for Jesus. Breakthrough; they let us pray with them and take pictures of their culture for the first time. They said I was the first white guy to their village. Lord Jesus, please show yourself to these prescious people you died for, and receive the reward of their worship that you deserve. Sunday. Today was a day of rest and a night of joy. It could not be more humid, but after some afteroon rest, we departed by an Evinrude powered dugout canoe holding 40 people for a three hour ride up the Vaupez, a major tributary of the Amazon. What a beautiful trip and amazing night of singing and sharing. I will never forget the story of the gospel first coming to their village and of their stedfast sacrifice in the face of relentless persecution. The words to one of my favorite worship songs came to life... "the voices of triball believers drowning out the Amazon rain".. The ground was hard, the mosquitos nasty, the food was ?... but I would not trade it for anything. One of tasks today was to verify the martyrdom of another indigenous pastor. He leaves behind a wife and 8 children. I am tearing up even as I type. Please pray for the provision of the Lord for this precious family. The Amazon rains are singing me to sleep... Love you.

2 More updates as they just came in from Randy!

Our workers here in this Cubaio village are Moises and Selena... amazingly tireless and joyful. All they have done is establish a strong village church, bring quality education to the children, and build a bible school with their own hands, hauling wood from the jungle and roofing material 12 hours by boat. Their shoulders and hands carry the scars to prove it. In the last five years they have graduated 38 students, Selena goes to the garden she planted every day and cooks for all the students, including their 3 little kids. Selena is wonder woman on steroids... they are scheduled for a 6 week rest in February and need financila help. They have done all of this totally by faith. Helman says this is the first of 7 regional bible schools Chisalico plans to run, resourcing all the indigenous tribes of Colombia with trained Christain servant leaders. Blindside the next morning... Helman asked me if I would prayerfully give oversite to the development of the schools so he can focus on farming training and quality of life issues as a way to reach the yet unrreached tribes. God, is this you... sweating through my shirt at 630 in the morning eating kafunce, kind of a wild jungle pig they hunted in our honor last night.

I must admit, I never saw this one coming. I held the baby son of a martyred pastor today. Ruth Marina, wife of the pastor, just showed up at the conference, holding the baby boy born after her husband´s death. He is a couple of months older than my granddaughter. He never got a chance to meet his Godly hero father. With joy and emotion I carried him around the room, praying in the Spirit over this precious bundle of destiny. Ruth arrived, to our surprise, with 4 of her other kids. Her oldest, Robinson, is about the same age as my youngest, Ryan. He is really struggling and needs our prayer. After the martyrdom, the church scattered into the jungle for fear, but is now back together. Ruth and another young man are leading and getting the church back on its feet again. When I asked her how we could pray for her, she simply rsponded, ¨pray our church community becomes more bold and effective in reaching our tribe.¨ I didn´t see that one coming, either. But I guess I should not be surprised as I hear story afteer story of faith, courage and perseverence from these simple, hard working, God-honoring people. Oh, the baby´s name? Immanuel, ¨God is with us¨... The ministry here is the most challenging yet due to education levels and cultural barriers. They did not know what a yoke was, and had never heard of a marathon. I am adjusting my teaching and we are touching God together. Thank you for your continued prayers.

I have to disagree to an extent with Pastor Ray-yes there was a remnant left in the land but the vast majority were taken captive. Think about it-the Jews were the actual people of God and they had become nominal Jews only by and large. The Pharisees believed being born Jewish was enough to get you into heaven and taught this to the people. We have how many thousands of people within the walls of nominal Christian churches who think being labeled Christian is enough to get you into heaven. same thing, different generation. there is a new series starting on this very topic of apostasy within the church on the prophecy today blogspot Apostasy in the Church in the Last Days

I might add there is a new book out by Ken Hamm from Answers in Genesis that I intend to get-Already Gone. the book is about how we are losing our young people in the church and when. the answer as they see it from their extensive research is over the book of Genensis and in middle school. chilling

Jib,

continuing on with Jeremiah, God removed all of the righteous. God in His mercy took them into exile in Babylon. The ones who remained were the rebellious ones, and even after this message from Jeremiah, they still rebelled and forced Jeremiah to go with them to Egypt. In Egypt, they continued to worship idols, and Jeremiah continued to offer God's mercy, if they were only willing.

Perhaps this is very similar to what will happen at the rapture. The righteous will be taken away, and those remaining will destroy each other, but in the process have one more chance to repent and live, even while their world falls around them. The message of do not fear is very important, because God will restore the individual who turns to God, even tho that person may physically die.

The eternal is far more important than the temporal

God's Hesed is beyond compare.

Jib,

Now I had to go back and re-read Pastor Ray's article.

I don't think he is expressing the end time view of there is going to be a "revival" in the Church-generally speaking.

It's obvious from scripture (at least to most of us) that is not going to be the case at all.

He is speaking from a place in a Pastor Shepherd's heart tending his sheep in distress. What he is speaking of is on an individual basis.

I would imagine being the Shepherd of such a large congregation-there are many coming to him in regards to the economic difficulties now present in our time. They are most likely asking "What is the meaning of this?" & "Is the economic strain ever going to end & will my life ever return to the way it was before?"

So the advice is that we should take this as our opportunity to turn to God & trust in him- not live out our lives in fear of what is to come.

I honestly don't think he was referring to a collective end time revival. If I thought that he would be getting an email from me- for sure.

Thanks for the Apostasy link-(It's one of my main interests.)

Also, I posted the information about VeriChip, (Thanks Lisa). They are a local company here. I asked DH two years ago if it would be a conflict of interest to invest in stock and then when things got popping we could sell and fund the work of the Gospel. He looked at me with a weird face. That's all I got.

The CERN is getting fired up again today, well, if some critter doesn't drop their lunch into again.

Lisa, I read the book so long ago that I don't remember the content. Sorry.

I agree with Ray that we are in a desperate need for revival. I personally feel that it is too late for a revival of the nation, which makes it all the more important for a revival of each Christian heart.

This is why Jeremiah's message is so powerful today. No matter how horrible and evil the world is around you, if you respond to God's call and walk with Him thru this valley of death, you personally will be saved and strengthened. A time is coming where there will be nothing left but God.

"My 5 year old grandaughter's rapture dream"Dear Doves,

Last Friday night, my five year old grand daughter had a rapture dream. She excitedly ran in to her mother's room on Saturday morning to tell my daughter her dream. The day of the Rapture, the whole family was out on the deck in back of the house. She said, that " everything turned white, the house, our skin, our clothes, everything was white, but it was not winter". As the whole family began to rise up from the ground, she could see that the people who were not going, (those still on the ground) were on fire.

Then she saw Jesus, and went to heaven. In heaven she was in a big field, filled with flowers. She saw her whole family there, including me, Whew........... My husband was not there, so please pray for him, he is Jewish and unsaved. No one had clothes, they were all "clear or silver". She also saw a big waterfall. Jesus said to her, your mom would be dying in 60 years, but she won't, because she is here with me.

The angels were preparing a long rectangular table and it looked very beautiful. She also mentioned something about 1:00. End of Dream.

(I wonder if this means we'll be sitting transparent shimmering naked at the long table? I was thinking more along the lines of wearing a white robe. Oh well.)

Do hacked e-mails show global-warming fraud?

(Quoting from a thread on the Catholic Answers Forum:)

Controversy has exploded onto the Internet after a major global-warming advocacy center in the UK had its e-mail system hacked and the data published on line. The director of the University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit confirmed that the e-mails are genuine — and Australian publication Investigate and the Australian Herald-Sun report that those e-mails expose a conspiracy to hide detrimental information from the public that argues against global warming.

The internet is on fire this morning with confirmation computers at one of the world’s leading climate research centres were hacked, and the information released on the internet.

A 62 megabyte zip file, containing around 160 megabytes of emails, pdfs and other documents, has been confirmed as genuine by the head of the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit, Dr Phil Jones.

In an exclusive interview with Investigate magazine’s TGIF Edition, Jones confirms his organization has been hacked, and the data flying all over the internet appears to have come from his organisation.

“It was a hacker. We were aware of this about three or four days ago that someone had hacked into our system and taken and copied loads of data files and emails.”

Here's a link to the original thread on CAF. A lot of the posters have additional information and links to other articles about the leak.

I saw an AP story that Rep. Patrick Kennedy says Roman Catholic Bishop Thomas Tobin has barred him from receiving communion because of his support of abortion rights.

Jim C., I have a question. If (and I don't know this is even a realistic possibility) one or more other American Bishops are fine allowing him to receive communion and the Bishops then appear to be split, would the Vatican possibly step in and take a position on the issue? Of course, the RCC has always been clear on the fact that abortion is wrong. But would they possibly speak up on whether politicians that advocate abortion rights AND claim to be Catholic should be permitted to receive communion in the RCC?

jim.carroll said...

I just finished reading that story from several different news sources. Keep in mind that we will only be learning a small portion of what has passed between the two. Communications regarding the actions of a person and how they relate to faith and morals are considered privileged communication almost (but not quite) on the level of the seal of the confessional. This means that no information can be revealed except by permission of the lay person. This did not become public until Rep. Kennedy started speaking about it. Bishop Tobin can only confirm or correct what Rep. Kennedy has said, AND CANNOT REVEAL ANYTHING THAT HAS NOT ALREADY BEEN REVEALED BY REP. KENNEDY.

It's clear that Bishop Tobin asked (did not order) Kennedy to stop receiving Communion back in 2007, based on Kennedy's support for abortion. This was made in the form of a request, not an order, so that Kennedy might prayerfully and quietly return to the Catholic faith. This request put the onus for obedience to his bishop on Kennedy. By disregarding this request, he has disobeyed his bishop, who is the head of the local Church. By continuing to receive Communion during this time, he has both damaged his relationship with the Church and brought scandal into the Church. (In this sense, "scandal" means to confuse the members of the Church, which is the Body of Christ, as to what is and is not sinful.)

By refusing to obey and bringing this conflict into the public sphere, Bishop Tobin has been forced to order Kennedy not to receive Communion. By his actions, Kennedy has gone from "damaging" his relationship with the Church to "cutting off" his relationship, i.e., he has excommunicated himself.

Until Bishop Tobin's order to deny Kennedy Communion is rescinded, Kennedy is also prohibited from going to another diocese and receiving Communion. There is a doctrine called "the collegiality of bishops". This states that each bishop, as far as the duties and responsibilities of the office are concerned, has equal dignity and authority within their dioceses (which are the local Church). (This includes the Pope, who is the Bishop of Rome.) This also means that the bishops are bound to recognize and honor the decisions made by each bishop regarding faith, morals, and discipline within their diocese. Since it appears that, as a matter of faith and discipline, Bishop Tobin has declared that Rep. Kennedy has excommunicated himself, all bishops in the world, including Archbishop Donald Wuerl of Washington, D.C. and all whichever bishop had authority over the place where the Kennedy compound is. IF any bishop violates this collegiality, then the violation (not the reason) becomes an issue for the Vatican.

I see this as the shot across the bow starting the battle between the State and Faith. I've seen a couple of people (including some who claim to be "pro-choice Catholics") publicly call for the IRS to revoke the tax-exempt status of the Catholic Church. If they are successful, then it's going to be a short time before all the other churches in America either follow the approved doctrine or have THEIR tax-exempt status revoked.

As a side note, the council that governs the city of Washington, D.C. is preparing -- without public vote on the issue -- to recognize gay "marriage". There's not going to be a public vote on the issue because to actually put the issue on the ballot may violate the civil rights rules in DC. The Diocese of Washington has informed the council that if the bill is passed in the form as written, without a conscience clause, the Diocese will be forced to close pretty much all of its public works and charitable works that it runs on money it gets from the council. Naturally, there's no conscience clause because that would be institutionalizing discrimination, and the Church is selfish and evil because they would let people suffer rather than compromise their principles. Go figure.

I just realized I didn't answer the last part of your question:

But would they possibly speak up on whether politicians that advocate abortion rights AND claim to be Catholic should be permitted to receive communion in the RCC?

This has been a sore subject for the last year within the US Catholic Conference of Bishops (USCCB). About a third want to publicly declare that so-and-so, by his/her support, etc.; about a third think that Catholics should be trying to work this out privately or don't want to get into the inevitable debate re: separation of Church and State and is American public policy being dictated by the Vatican; and about a third are on the fence. The fence-sitters are shrinking, though, with more support growing for taking a public stand and denying communion. The Vatican is not going to get involved as this is an American issue. The exception is if any of the bishops violate collegiality. Then the Vatican WILL get involved, but only in that bishops have violated collegiality, not for the reason for the violation.

As for what the Vatican could do to any such bishop: First, the Vatican would privately remonstrate the bishop, giving them a chance to repent. If that didn't work, then it would be a public censure and an ORDER to stop violating collegiality. IF the bishop again refused to repent, then the Vatican would de-throne the bishop: they would declare the seat vacant and appoint a new bishop.

All in all, it would be very messy, and would take a few years to sort out.

Shalom, all. I've cross-posted this on a couple of sites. (Only in a Christian forum is "CROSS"-posting not a bad thing!) I just want people to be prepared.

It is appropriate, in my mind, that the issue of Representative Kennedy being forbidden to receive Holy Communion should come to a head today. In the present atmosphere, where a growing crowd are saying that the Church should stay out of politics; and Very Important Politicians are saying that maybe the Catholic Church should have its tax-exempt status revoked, especially if they would rather close down clinics and soup kitchens and the like, hurting innocent people, rather than accept a compromise in their beliefs; and respected and well-read political blogs are calling the Catholic Church "intrinsically evil" without censure or comment;

It is important at THIS time, THIS day, to recall what this day is:

The Feast of Christ the King.

Americans really don't have any concept of kingship, other than to think of it either as a dictatorship or an anachronistic oddity. It is neither. It is the political system where power flows directly from G_D through the monarch to the people. "The Divine Right of Kings" was not just some silly saying that was used to keep the great unwashed subjugated. For most of the Christian Era it was the political philosophy that kept kingdoms united: the belief that the king was selected by G_D and as such required your complete obedience.

Nowadays, no one seems to take loyalty to a person seriously anymore. This was especially true at the turn of the 20th century, when the monarchical systems were being overthrown and political systems glorifying Man were set up in their place; where G_D not only did not have a place in government, G_D had no place in society. The French Revolution is the prime example of this, and is the prime example of what we are moving towards.

But CHRIST IS KING! This feast was established in 1925 to remind the Church and the world at large that Christ is King over all, and that governments, as well as people, are bound to obey Him. Not obey sometimes, not obey when it is to their liking, but to obey always and completely. You do not pledge allegiance to your King. You swear an oath of fealty -- an oath of faithfulness. You swear a promise on your sword (or whatever your weapon is) that your sword, your self, is for the King's use as He sees fit. That you will rise to His defense at His call and follow whatever commands He gives you. You do this freely in the faith and belief that He will do whatever is in His power to defend you and the people under you, for their (and your) health, safety, and property.

There are two songs that bring this home. One I first heard earlier today on the "Da Mihi Animas" blog. It is apparently a Mormon hymn, sung beautifully by an a capella group with a female soloist, and it's called Christ the King. I've already favorited it.

The other song is one I seem to be turning to more and more to remind myself of THE one truth: God is in Control!

We know as Christians that whatever happens -- to us, to the Church, to our country, to the world -- in the days to come, will happen because G_D Our King has willed it. We must be good and faithful servants, and wait in joyful hope for the coming of Our King.

Jim G. said...

Jim C.,

Was reading your last post re Christ the King and was getting ready to post a simple "Amen!" until I got to the last paragraph where you wrote:

We know as Christians that whatever happens -- to us, to the Church, to our country, to the world -- in the days to come, will happen because G_D Our King has willed it.

I hate to open up a theological can of worms (I do find myself in very close agreement with you quite often) but I just don't think that all that happens is God's will if "all" includes rebellion against Christ. That is simply illogical (not to be confused with beyond understanding). I accept that there are some things that are mysteries but I don't think the Bible teaches contradictory things. Otherwise, why would we find passages in Scripture with a direct or indirect appeal to reason. "Come, let us reason together..."

Christ is King of kings and Lord of lords. He is worthy of total obedience. We have a choice to submit or rebel. Let us do what is right and respond in faith to His love and grace so freely offered to us who are all unworthy.

jim.carroll said...

Jim G.,

Remember: there is a difference between "willing" something in terms of actually forcing it to happen, and "willing" something by permitting it to occur. Nothing can happen without G_D's knowledge. He, being all good, cannot force someone to do evil. He can, however, by His will, create situations that allow us to either obey Him or abandon Him. He can, by His will, remove restrainers that keep the Evil One and his minions at bay, or that keep the natural effects of a fallen world from being unleashed on us in the form of natural disasters.

It is in this sense that I said that, what will happen "will happen because G_D Our King has willed it." He did not command the tornado to destroy your home or for your children to be attacked. He did, however, lift restrainers that had protected you, your family, your community, and your nation -- not out of personal malice towards you, but as a natural consequence of our nation and our culture denying fidelity, of refusing fealty towards our King.

Oddly enough while I was at a conference, which had the robot company there, an article was released that said the risk of incontinence (lack of control meaning pee all over your self) was higher with the robot than conventional surgery. my dad is not the world's best candidate for surgery at the moment-one of the drugs he was taking for his rheumatoid arthritis has damaged his lungs and he is a new diabetic with poor control.

with the radiation his doc says 85% cure-doubtful that the surgery in view of the risks will do any better.

Today was a "Theme Park" day experience I'll never forget.

I took the girls & a little friend to Legoland and were in the front row of a line waiting for the "log" ride. There was some commotion going on & when we looked up they had the ride stopped & at the very top of the hill (before you would begin to swing down the water way) a boy-
12yrs ? old was actually standing up in log w/an older teenage girl sitting behind him trying to pull him back down into the seat.

He was screaming and crying that he wanted to get of the ride "right now" and looked like he was going to jump out.

The young people working the ride were kind of dumbfounded & didn't really know how to handle it so just called for their overseer & maintenance guys. All they said was "Nothing like this has ever happened before."

I didn't know at the time some of the moms were taking their children & leaving the line in case he jumped to his doom. All I could do @ the time was plead to the Lord & was praying that his nerves would settle so that he could get off the ride safely w/out being hurt.

I pulled the 5yr old away from the fence (who was watching) & to her sister & friend who we're also in on the action. Then I said- "What are you doing watching this? You have to start praying." (which they did.)

Then when I looked up again he & the teenage girl apparently got off
the proper side & went down a catwalk & stairs to the bottom of the ride. He then climbed a fence & was in a planter near his mother who was w/two younger children 3 & 5 but still sitting in the ride which was shut down.

He was screaming & crying for her but was stuck in the ride and couldn't get out. The operators had to follow some sort of procedure so she had to wait there while her eldest son was freaking out in the planter.

Finally the maintenance men grabbed the side of the log and pulled it backward until she could get out w/the young children. Those little kids had these cute pictures painted on their faces & just started crying their eyes out as they realized something not good was going on.

The mother was calm - thank goodness. We figured the boy was most likely autistic & the reason for the episode @ the top of the ride.

Praise the Lord !!! That the boy or girl in the log w/him were not hurt. She was also in danger trying to hold him in the ride as if he fell- he could have pulled her along w/him.

My dad got incontinence eventually as well. I'm not sure if it was mostly due to the cancer coming back or the beginnining stages of the Alzeheimers.

It was hard to take him out to dinner, shopping, or really out anywhere because he could loose it at any time.

85% cure sounds pretty good though.

Have you been following along w/J.R. Church w/Prophecy in the News? He has had cancer spots w/removal & radiation treatments.

When he began the radiation treatments his straight hair which is always nicely coiffed turned curly & went wild for a spell. He's looking pretty good now but still dealing w/stuff.

I've had a number of patients in which chemo has altered their hair texture-usually straight to curly. About the only time I watch is when one of you posts something that really caught your eye.

my dad is far more up beat about this than I would have thought he'd be. When he was in the early stages of being watched for diabetes he would get absolutely enraged at the doc and it was quite illogical and absurd-the doctor was trying to give him diabetes. the only thing my mom and I could think of was that my brothers mother in law had quite bad brittle diabetes and had nearly every complication from the disease one could have. fear perhaps. who knows. thus far he seems to be ok with it all. very odd.

How often do you ask God to hurry?

"O Lord, I am calling to you. Please hurry! Listen when I cry to you for help! Accept my prayer as incense offered to you, and my upraised hands as an evening offering." Psalm 141:1-2 NLT

The Second Thanksgiving

"The year was 1623. The Pilgrims had been in the New World for two and half years. The first Thanksgiving of 1621 was only a memory by this time because this summer's drought was jeopardizing everything. Not even the Indians could remember anything like it. The settlers had planted more corn than before, but without any rainfall, there would be no harvest. Daily they had prayed that God would send rain, but he hadn't answered. As the psalmist did in Psalm 141:1, they were begging God to hurry.

Finally, the settlers set aside an entire day for prayer and worship. As they went for worship, the "heavens were as clear and the drought as like to continue as it ever was," yet when they left the meeting, "the weather was overcast, the clouds gathered on all sides." For the next 14 days there were "moderate showers of rain," according to Edward Winslow, one of the Pilgrims.

The Indians watched and were amazed at how the God of the new settlers had answered their prayers, and that year, after the harvest, a second Thanksgiving was celebrated with the Indians joining in as well.

"Hurry up, Lord," we often prod, wondering why the Almighty doesn't seem to be in as much of a rush as we are. Sometimes we need to set our watches to his clock.

Happy Thanksgiving, all! I wanted to share something the priest talked about at Mass this morning. In addition to our regular priest, we had a priest from Tanzania, who is teaching some classes at the University. When it came time for the homily, he stood up and spoke about how he has great reasons to be thankful.

This December he will be traveling back to Tanzania to take part in festivities celebrating the 100th anniversary of the arrival of Christianity. Before the missionaries arrived, any child that was different was "returned to the gods", offered to (tossed into) the river. If the child's first tooth came in the upper jaw, he or she was "returned to the gods"; if the child was left-handed, the same. Then the missionaries came, and all things changed. He had great reason to be thankful that Christianity came, because when he was born, his first tooth came in the upper jaw.

Oh, and I ran across two news articles that you might find interesting:

Demographic Implosion Spurs Panicked South Korea to Enforce Abortion Ban
Possibly three out of four pregnancies in Korea end in abortion

South Korea's total fertility rate is now estimated at 1.21 children/woman, which is far below the 2.1 replacement rate which demographers say is the threshold for population stability. The nation's fertility rate is comparable to Japan, which also has a rate of 1.21, and with a median age of 43 has descended into irreversible population decline.

...

The experience of Shanghai may shed light on why government's power to reverse an anti-childbearing culture is far more difficult than imposing it on a population.

Earlier in July, Shanghai's government - concerned about its own coming demographic crisis - announced new plans to relax even further the one-child policy and provide more economic incentives to encourage couples to have more children. However, 7300 couples from one-child households that were already eligible to have two children declined, opting instead to have either one child or none at all.

Chinese message boards discussing the new policy revealed that many Chinese in affluent Shanghai were hesitant to have more than one child, because they had not experienced successful family models with more than one child. Instead, individuals from single-child families were even hesitant to have one child - also seen as an inevitable obstacle to having an active social life - since their own experience ingrained in them how difficult it was for their own parents to raise them.

there are very few poems out there for kids to read at Christmas that aren't about Santa so since my son is in a Christmas program for our home schooling group I had literally a flash of inspiration last night for a poem for him to read. if you like it and want to use it please give correct attribution to Joyce Brough.

Christmas time is here at last, it's meaning changed from the past. Today it's all about those gifts and toys that Santa brings to good little girls and boys. As this was not always so, let me tell you of long ago. Once upon a time in Bethlehem town, the Son of God to earth came down. As a baby he was born that night, while angels sang giving shepherds quite a fright. Let the choirs of heaven ring, for unto you is born a Savior and a King. He came to earth his life to give, that we might eternally with him live. Would you give to him the gift of your heart? I think that would be the place to start now that you know the true reason why we celebrate the Christmas season.

I'm sure by now, you've all heard about the shooting in an affluent Jupiter neighborhood on Thanksgiving. My son was at a friends' house just about 3 blocks away.

Please pray for the families. The 6 yr old girl, killed, was to perform the nutcracker this weekend as one of Ginger's kids. Her dance teacher (Colleen) was also my daughter's dance teacher, who is also a devoted believer. This is really impacting the community here. People are scratching their heads trying to make sense of it all.

I honestly can't think of anything that could provoke this attack other than drugs and demonic activity.

This family is well loved and needs our prayers. Pray for the attacker as well, he is still on the loose and in desperate need of God.

Do you ever feel it doesn't pay to live a godly life?

"Day by day the Lord takes care of the innocent, and they will receive a reward that lasts forever." Psalm 37:18 NLT

God will honor your integrity

"Maybe last month it was a relational disaster or an occupational trial. This week it might be a financial setback. Next week could bring a health crisis. After a while the unrelenting stream of tough times takes its toll.

"What's the use?" we cry. "I try to do right and for what? Life keeps beating me up! I can't get ahead! I'm not sure it pays to try to live a godly life. I struggle as much or more than my neighbors who couldn't care less about God!"

Troubles certainly have a way of wearing us down. And if we're not careful, they can erode even our bedrock convictions. The promise in Psalm 37 is a good reminder of why we must be vigilant about not taking moral or ethical shortcuts.

Those who maintain their integrity, those who continue to do right even when everything and everyone else is wrong will one day receive the ultimate reward.

Praying God's Promise:
Life doesn't seem fair at times, Lord, and integrity often doesn't seem to matter. But it does matter. You see everything. Nothing escapes your gaze. You promise to care for the pure and to reward the faithful. Give me the spiritual tenacity to hang in there. Remind me that the day is coming when you will exalt those who steadfastly trust in you.

Are you looking for rewards on earth?

"…we who are still alive and remain on earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with him forever." 1 Thessalonians 4:17 NLT

Awaiting our day

"The story is told of an old missionary couple returning to the States after many years of thankless service in Africa. They happened to be on the same ship to New York as President Theodore Roosevelt, who was returning from a big game hunt in Africa. As the ship pulled past the Statue of Liberty and into the dock, huge crowds were gathered to welcome him home. The press was out in full force, and thousands of people had come to get a glimpse of the president.

In the middle of the chaos, the aged missionary couple fought their way through the crowds with their large suitcases in tow. Silently they hailed a cab and made their way to a cheap hotel. The missionary sat on the bed and said to his wife, "It just doesn't seem right. We gave our lives to Christ to win souls for the Kingdom in Africa, and when we arrive home there is no one here to meet us. The president shoots a few animals and receives a royal welcome."

His wife sat beside him on the bed and said softly, "That's because we're not home yet, dear."

It may seem at times as if our work for Christ is going unnoticed. Faith doesn't bring a lot of praise on this earth. But that's only because our trip is not yet over.

Our day will come, you can be sure. And when it does, the ceremony will last for an eternity.

1 Thessalonians 5:10 NLT

Made for another world

"Most of us find it very difficult to want "Heaven" at all—except in so far as "Heaven" means meeting again our friends who have died. One reason for this difficulty is that we have not been trained: Our whole education tends to fix our minds on this world. Another reason is that when the real want for Heaven is present in us, we might not recognize it. Most people, if they had really learned to look into their own hearts, would know that they do want, and want acutely, something that cannot be had in this world. There are all sorts of things in this world that offer to give it to you, but they never quite keep their promise.

If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.

I think I'm under a bit of spiritual attack lately. Some depression which I have been able to hold at bay, not only with getting up and moving (ie excercising) and keeping in contact with people (preventing isolation) but with singing songs of praise and listening to uplifting music. The malaise I feel is not circumstantial. However, interestingly I sense a little voice accusing me, saying “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.” (2 Peter 3:4), tempting me to be one of the scoffers! James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Well, I guess I must be doing something right for the evil one to try so hard to derail me.

I have to worry about the spiritual oppression occuring (with the "quietness" on the End Times boards) right now because I keep thinking of different (Catholic) prophecies that warn of a new French Revolution coming upon us quickly.

I've also been reading up on the "Cristero War" in Mexico, where a government of Freemasons shut down all Christian (not just Catholic, although they bore the brunt of the offensive) activity in the country. On July 12, 1926, the following communiqué appeared in the press: "International Masonry accepts responsibility for everything that is happening in Mexico, and is preparing to mobilize all its forces for the methodic, integral application of the agreed upon program for this country." For almost three years, from 1926 to 1929, federal troops and government thugs shot up churches and executed priests, ministers, nuns, and religious workers. This led to a rebellion, called the "Cristero War". It got its name from the battle cry of the rebels: "Viva Cristo Rey!" "Long Live Christ the King!"

Then there's the Spanish Civil War. When the war broke out, the Church was neutral. But the Republicans (who were a mix of Socialists and Communists) didn't trust them. People bitch because in the end, the Church was supporting the Nationalists, led by Franco. It would be hard to justify supporting the Republicans though when, by the end of the war, the Republicans had killed 13 bishops, 4,154 priests and seminarians, 2,365 religious, 283 nuns and about 4,000 laymen killed for helping or hiding nuns or priests.

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Update from Randy...

It's so good to be back home, but my recent Colombia experience is
casting a long shadow over my Thanksgiving...

The persecuted church, their passion for the next Christ-less village,
and infectious joy totally absent of this world's "things" quickly put
into perspective what I am typically thankful for on this day... and
any day. Along with the usual and sincerely appropriate responses of
family, friends and faith, I now am thanking God for boiled clean
water, hot showers, the blessing of "choice" for a meal, our "Agora
100" partners, the calling and sovereignty of God, and, most of all,
new friends who live the Kingdom in some of the most challenging
conditions I could ever imagine. As much as I missed having Becky on
this trip, adding to some of the longest, loneliest days of my life,
many times I thought about how glad I was for her sake that she was
not with me-jungle "cuisine", mosquitos, fleas, bedbugs... my last
stop I was given a bed so suspect I actually set my tent up on top of
it for fear of what might bite me in the night. Sure enough, my
interpreter in the bed next to me woke up with issues from head to
toe...

Now it's Black Friday. My thoughts are how it would totally spin the
heads of my Amazon heroes I lived with in Mitu. Consider Samuel, who
wants to reach the Banivas tribe on both sides of the Amazon-in
Colombia and Brazil. He has visited 14 communities so far, some 4 days
walking, some 4 weeks away by river. He says, "there are some
Christians scattered among them, but no churches at all." He wept as
he told us that this year his wife left him, but he will not turn back
from his Call despite the longing for companionship. We laid hands on
him and asked our God to fulfill His dreams of the Banivas through
Samuel, and to fulfill Samuel's longings as well.

Consider Selena She serves the work nonstop, cooking for everyone in
every situation I have seen her in-from her tribe to the training
school to the conference. She's Becky on steroids. For Selena, it's
not like going to Walmart: her "store" is the jungle and fields. She
shops not with Mastercard, but with a machete. One day I took her to
town and bought her a bigger machete and two kitchen knives- the best
12 bucks I've spent in a long time. She lit up like a child on
Christmas morning. With multiple knives and machetes, others can help
with all the food prep.

Consider Trino, the brother of the martyred pastor, Emilio- "We
suffered a lot when my brother died." When the guerillas cut off all
river travel for 6 weeks as the persecution intensified, they had no
access to any basic supplies. The FARQ plan was to exterminate all
pastors and take all children into their army as soldiers, but the
Lord undertook. A young soldier killed his commander before he could
execute his plan. For Trino, it was a four day journey through the
jungle with his young family with no food. When they reached the
safety of the next village where he had started a church, the people
wept- they had thought he was the one killed. In prayer with his wife,
the Lord broke through at 3 am. He prayed for his enemies and started
to minister again- "I am sad for my brother but will keep moving
forward in my ministry..."

Thanksgiving and Colombia.... As I laid in my tent... on top my
bed... for awhile I thought how difficult this all was for me. Then I
heard the joy and laughter coming from my Colombian "family" and
wrote, "One man's sacrifice is another man's celebration/ sanctuary.
One man's pit is another man's palace. One man's abasing is another
man's abounding (Phil. 4: 11-13)"

And in Mitu, one man's trial is another man's Thanksgiving...

Jim G. said...

Hovering over Thanksgiving dinner, I thought of one great blessing in
Colombia- my brother Reuben and his "hot sauce du jour." Reuben
discovered my love for "tasty heat" and took it upon himself every day
to create fresh salsas that he had learned from his father as a boy.
You know how love covers a multitude of sins??? Well, his creations
covered a multitude of gastronomical mysteries. Grace comes in some
interesting packages...

Reuben has a serious heart condition that requires expensive medicine
as he serves the Crisalinco vision for every tribe. Please pray with
me for divine provision.

While there with these precious tribal leaders, Helman shared an
important insight with me. These tribes only live for today... they
trust God for tomorrow, literally practicing Matt. 6:33. The downside
comes as it impacts their ability to dream. "Dreams" became a
conference theme, and to hear what God put in their hearts over the
week was awesome. As they articulated their visions, we rejoiced.
Dreams of raising up new leaders for new villages, of Circuit-riding
teams of church planters, for the Puerto Gerais region, 16 hours by
walking, and for totally unreached tribes. On the spot, Helman asked
me to teach on the anointing of God (a stretch for one who loves to be
totally prepared in any pulpit). We finished by anointing the next
generation of emerging leaders and praying over 5 friends of martyred
Emilio. All are on the FARQ hit list, but as one cried in prayer,
"they can't stop the church." The prayer for their persecutors went to
the next level as, through a prophetic word, they were challenged not
just to pray for safety, or for persecutions to stop, but that, like
Paul, their persecutors would become apostles for the glory of God.

Not only do they culturally live from day to day, their educational
levels affect comprehension and the concept of "God's dream." It was a
challenge to relay Kingdom leadership concepts to those who had no
grasp of what a marathon race was, ore a yoke for animals. It was slow
go. I know everyone grew and and the ministry in the Vaupez region was
moved forward, but I've never felt so unprepared for the level of need
and depth of communication and culture gap I experienced.

As I headed home, I prayed we helped these precious leaders for whom
extreme conditions are status quo. Most of the people joined us on the
45 minute walk to the airport to say good-bye. I thought of Acts
20:28-38, Paul's words to the Ephesian leaders:

"Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock over which the Holy
Spirit has made you overseer...I know after I leave savage wolves will
come in among you... be on your guard...
Now I commit you to God and the word of His grace... When he said
this, he knelt down with them all and prayed. They all wept as they
embraced him and kissed him. What grieved
them the most was his statement that they would never see his
face again. They accompanied him to the ship."

The savage wolves are already at work, telling our leaders that they
really aren't pastors because they have no formal degree, and trying
to "buy" churches for their denominations. We discussed openly that we
have no guarantees that we will see each other again this side of
heaven. I walked side-by-side with Trino, the martyred pastor's
brother. Nothing was said. Nothing needed to be said. We had been with
God together, and together we had radically impacted each other's
vision and perspective. It was a tough hug.

What a way to begin the 18 hour trip home....

Thanks for all standing with us in support and prayer. Trino wanted me
to return in two weeks to minister for a week to the Cubio tribe's
300+ youth from 11 villages. He wants them to dream God's dreams in
the midst of huge temptation as they continue their education living
in the "big city" of Mitu every week, with all it's modern allures.
What do I do with the need and requests? It was tough to decline,
despite the 8 hour boat ride to the retreat site.

Helman has asked me to write a training manual for tribal pastors and
church planters. It would be a standardized summary of our two years
of topics there- 6-8 lessons per year, and I would begin raising up
other trainers from the states who could teach their specialties. It's
work, but what an opportunity to influence a nation through its
emerging leaders. As I fly home, I realize its all grace, and Isaiah
55:5 is on my mind:

"Surely you will summon nations (people groups) you know not, and
nations who do not know you will hasten to you, because of the Lord
your God..."

Grace and peace,
Randy

PERSECUTION CAN MEAN PERSONAL, FAMILY ATTACKS BY 'EVIL ONE' MORE THAN ANYTHING

Will the day come when churches are actually closed in the West, as they were in the Soviet Union?

Perhaps.

But the main persecution, for now -- and intensifying -- is a persecution in the spirit. The spiritual intensity has been ratcheted up. While it manifests in overt ways -- such as removal of religious symbols -- the main concern is how it is affecting us personally.

Catholics and other active believing Christians are seeing a rise of evil the likes of which we have not noticed before -- not just societal, worldly evil (which is what the Catholic media focuses upon), but personal attacks by demons.

The enemy is invisible and operating in the darkness of spiritual blindness -- blindsiding us at every turn.

The unfortunate events, the accidents, the tensions in households, seem to be swelling.

Thank you so much for the updates from Randy. I have read all of them that you have posted. I am so touched and inspired.

That is walking with God. We do not have to be in the Jungle or among hostile tribes to minister like that. Sheer abandonment to God. That I would just see through God's eyes in the middle of the jungle that I am in. That His priorities would be my priorities.

Alesia, I read every day. You post things that for me, come right from the heart of the Lord.

I too, am struggling with intense spiritual battles. I feel so weighted down with the cares of living. Apathy overtakes me.

I hear ya Mac. I give far too much attention to what is happening in the world that I neglect time with God too.

Jim G, thanks for posting that. My DH has a friend who works directly with soldiers in Afghanistan. This man says that the soldiers in the most danger, the hottest action, are the ones with the highest morale. The others wish to be there. Interesting, and maybe that's how it is with us, too. While the battle is difficult, there is something valuable, worth it, in seeking God and finding refuge under our Father's wing.

Remember a year or two ago when we wondered if the rapture was going to occur in September? I think it was Mark Blitz who had we end times bloggers wondering. I felt such a mixture of desire to see the Lord and urgency for friends and family who don't know the Lord. I had very sweet communion with Jesus during that time. When it didn't happen I wasn't fully disappointed, because of those I love who would be left behind, but a big part of me was.

It's true, if I am distracted by life's troubles it gives the enemy a teeny foothold and he takes his opportunity.

I appreciate you all, dear friends.

I miss Nate.

Hi, Some comforting words:
God uses people to refresh other people. He so loves this kind of ministry that he moved the prophet Malachi to speak of it as a most-needed work in the last days. Malachi described how, in his day, God’s people built each other up through one-on-one edification: “They that feared the Lord spoke often one to another” (Malachi 3:16).

When did this happen, exactly? Malachi’s words came during a time of rampant ungodliness, when the “devourer” had destroyed much fruit in the land. God’s people had grown weary and started to doubt that walking with the Lord was worth it. They thought, “We’re told it pays to serve the Lord, obey his Word and carry his burdens. But as we look around at the proud and the compromisers, they’re the ones who seem happy. They’re pursuing prosperity, living carelessly, enjoying life to the fullest.”

The Holy Spirit began to move in Israel, and soon the fear of the Lord came upon a God-hungry people. Suddenly everyone in Israel, young and old, became one-on-one missionaries. By the Spirit’s prompting, people opened up to one another, edifying each other and building up and comforting those around them.

I’m convinced Malachi’s word about this ministry is a mirror image of the present day. He has given us a picture of an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the last days, as God’s people stop gossiping and complaining and instead minister refreshing. It’s happening by phone, by letter, by e-mail, and face to face. And God is so pleased with this ministry, we’re told he writes everything down. Every kind word spoken, every call made, every letter written, every effort to comfort the downcast is recorded in a “book of remembrance.” And the Bible says each of us whose deeds are written down will be precious to him: “They shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels” (Malachi 3:17).

Be a Titus to someone who’s downcast in spirit. Pray to have the spirit of Onesiphorus, who sought out the hurting to bring them to healing. Think of it: You’ve been given all the power of heaven to refresh a hurting believer, someone who needs the consolation that God has given uniquely to you. Yes, there are people who need you and the Lord intends your past consolations to bring refreshing to them. Call that someone today and say, “Brother, sister, I want to pray for and encourage you. I’ve got a good word for you.”

I hope everyone's Thanksgiving was blessed. We received word today that Dennis crazy (literally) elderly aunt passed away early this morning. she had made such a nuisance of herself due to her illness that she would not take meds for that there is a general sigh of relief-unfortunate but true. as nearly as I can tell at some point she appears to have become a Christian-at least she went to a sound church as nearly as I can tell so there is a general feeling that in fact she is much better off. I wish i could say the family will mourn her but I suspect not much. She is now not tortured by her illness and as far as we know at peace with Christ-she is in a far better place and doing better than she ever has so it is difficult to mourn that.

Would you like to read something my daughter wrote? She's a journalist, just graduated last December and did an internship in India. Warning, she uses some language for effect, which I find offensive. She's the third place winner.

on another note, my DH was telling me that when he was growing up the communion wafers, both large and small, were stamped with a picture or some sort of lettering. They did not use the same type of wafer at the Newman center so he doesn't know if this is true of all wafers or not. He thinks it was stamped with a PX? to me REX or RX would make more sense but then again he is the one who grew up catholic. perhaps you could shed some light?

Shoot, pardon me. You can't read the piece, it's just an announcement. I jumped the gun. Sorry.

I can't tell you what a blessing Randy's words have been to me. certainly gives one food for thought. I am so blessed and I have so much to be thankful for.

I will be embarking on a new ministry within the confines of being a deacon. I have been asked to take over the deacon's corner in the church news letter. pray for me for wisdom and for the message that God wants communicated to both me and those who read the newsletter.

Jeremy - AWESOME!!! thanks much

Jim G. - thanks again for sharing, great stuff. I so love to read about missionary work, yet it makes me feel wretched that I'm not doing more.

Hope In Your Eternal Inheritance

"I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the wonderful future he has promised to those he called. I want you to realize what a rich and glorious inheritance he has given to his people.

I pray that you will begin to understand the incredible greatness of his power for us who believe him."
Ephesians 1:18-19 NLT

Paul's prayer for the Ephesians

"While the believers in Ephesus enjoyed the luxuries and wealth of a cosmopolitan city located on major trade routes, Paul was confined to a small room in Rome, under the constant watch of a Roman guard. But who would ever guess from Paul's prayer that he was deprived of anything?

Paul's confident description of God's power does not betray a hint of hopelessness. Instead, Paul speaks of the rich inheritance and wonderful future he would have in heaven. Paul's future on earth was in the hands of Caesar. Yet Paul's ultimate hopes weren't set on this world; his hopes were set on heaven and eternity.

In your prayers, place your hopes on your eternal inheritance in heaven, just as Paul did. Pray that God might help you understand how powerful he is.

A prayer for today…

Dear Lord, help me understand the wonderful future you have promised me…

Jib, Shalom! The hosts usually do have something stamped in them, if only a cross. The letters your DH is thinking about is XP -- Chi Rho (the "P" in Greek has an "R" sound), for Christos Rex, or "Christ the King."

To get an idea of some of the designs that get stamped into hosts today, check out this web site.

Shalom, all. I'm writing this now not for some great spiritual insight or to pass on some wisdom, but because I just feel like b*tching and I'm going on no more than 4 hours sleep.

Last night, I was FINALLY getting to sleep around 2AM. Suddenly, I heard this banging, like someone was hammering - BANG BANG BANG BANG (3 minutes silence) BANG BANG BANG BANG. I finally got up to see what was happening, and found my neighbor across the hall was laying on the floor kicking her door. I asked her what was wrong, and she replied (obviously VERY drunk) something about this being her house. I figured she had an argument with her boyfriend and he had locked her out. I finally asked her if she wanted to sleep on my sofa. She came in, staggered to the sofa, and was asleep before I could put the blanket over her.

This morning I learned that she had lost her purse somewhere with her keys and was angry at the door because it wouldn't open for her without her keys. We chatted while we waited for the maintenence people to come and unlock her doors, and when they came she left. That's when I discovered that in her sleep she had peed all over my futon sofa.

What is it they say about no good deed going unpunished? I've got some newspapers on it with some weights, and after I shower I'll take off the cover and wash that, along with the blanket. One pillow I'm not even going to try to redeem (I got it for $2 on sale, so no biggie), and I'm going to see if my steam cleaner has an upholstery attachment, or if I can find it.

All I can say is the next time this happens I'm lining the sofa with plastic bags and newspapers before she lays down.

(grumble grumble snarl grumble...)

Jim, my sympathies. Yesterday I was grumbling at my dog for a similar but much smellier situation. Won't go into the unpelasant details!

JIm C... urine a jam! (just had to say it)

campsmore said...

I will pray you get the smell and moisture out. There is a product sold at Walgreens someone told me about, I think it's called Urine Out? $10 a bottle, does it work? I don't know.

jim.carroll said...

Thanks. I've heard good things about "Urine Out"; but I can't afford to buy ANYTHING right now, so I've got to make do with what I've got. Luckily, I'm not noticing any smell coming from there; but that may just be because it isn't dry yet.

My steam cleaner doesn't have an upholstery attachment, but I think I've worked out a way around that. This is a futon, so what I'm planning on doing after lunch is using a 50-50 mix of vinegar and hot water as the cleaning solution; folding the futon down so it's like a bed, and then stand on it and use the steam cleaner. I'll flip it over and do the other side (it soaked through), then turn the fan on it for the next 5-6-7 hours. I'll spray Febreeze on it and keep my fingers crossed.

At least it got me to wash the futon cover, so that should look much nicer when it gets out of the drier.

Hey Jim, for a fast fix that will help draw out the urine, dump a pile of baking soda on it, wait a while, scrap off and throw away. You can do this several times. Oddly enough, we once saved a mattress this way. But it took a few pounds of baking soda over a couple days. But it was cheaper than replacement or chemicals.

campsmore said...

BTW: We walked into a store last night and there on the shelf was the exact model of modem/router than ATT said they would support. It was expensive but it was there! Yeah! So, I'm back online and the news is posted. Also, Safari is working better than Chrome.

Will the Third Temple be built next year?

According to a centuries-old rabbinical prophecy that appears to be coming true, on March 16, 2010, Israel will begin construction of the Third Temple in Jerusalem.
